The crowd surfing scene is one of the first signs of Danaerys succumbing to the same madness which afflicts the Targaryen line. It doesn't come from an altruism as much as it comes from her narcissism, the latter growing and supplanting the former. I interpret this as the influence of her dragons on her mind as they grow (although that's just a guess, and even my interpretation of Dany's behavior is a bit thin and relies on elements of book 5 more than any other).
In the books, the Red Wedding isn't the ending either. To be fair how would people know about what Bran and Rickon are doing? Most people within the story think they are dead except Theon, Osha, and Hodor.
Doesn't like the actor who plays Littlefinger / Baelish? He's actually one of my favorites. Danaerys is TERRIBLE compared to most of them. Tyrion / Varys / Littlefinger and (somewhat, though SPOILERS he might be dead now..) Jon Snow are the best characters.
Lol I never knew the TYT cast had another channel. From the minute I heard that laughter (before they actually showed up on screen) I knew it would be someone familiar, since I watch TYT. God I'd recognize Cenk's laugh anywhere!
I can't wait for GoT to resume, so that your show starts again! I love to listen to you, 3 Unsullied and 1 Sullied, such a great combination. See you on sunday! ^^
In contrast to some other professionally produced GOT reviews I enjoy the enthusiastic dynamic of WhatTheFlick, your passion and investment in this series is infectious. hope you do them again next season.
+abdallaha92 Season 5 spoilers: I'm not sure like is the right word. I respect him, but I feel bad for him. His logic is sound but his critical thinking is poor. Given the options he believed he had before him, i.e. daughter lives or he doesn't become King, the Battle for the Night is lost and the world ends, between those choices he made the right one. A very hard, right choice. He just never stops long enough to check those were actually his choices.
Best Review Show in all internet.. Keep the good work, you guys are the first review i try to see.. good work again.. keep simple.. keep casual.. and keep it humble
+Christopher Daly Charles Dance was hardly unknown in the US but let me tell you that the actorsare known in the uk AND most of Scandinavia. We usually prefer or watch just as many British movies, and shows as we do American. Also lots of the actors are not British either, but from various European countries. JFYI.
This is fun to watch, and it is interesting to hear all these different views, but as a reader I wish there was a book expert on this show. There are a ton of little inaccuracies and misreads in this video especially.
Agreed. The guy who plays Little Finger plays the character he's supposed to be. Measured, calculating, deceitful smiles. The actor does a brilliant job portraying his character.
cersei was just shocked that smile on her face was of a moment of imagination. i feel like that was a moment where she only thought she was hearing his voice and then she turns and realizes shes not hearing things and she's shocked he's actually there. this lady had no idea he was coming back or that he was even alive and bam he shows up and she hears his voice she probably thought she was imagining things. so she just lets out this huge breath of air like woah.
I agree, I really like Littlefingers actor, however in the books (I have finished reading up to the TV series) I feel that Littlefinger is very sarcastic and obnoxious. So the actor does a very good job. In my opinion.
I want to thanks all game of thrones; directors and cast members for doing a great job with this series that changed my life, and steal my breath and rest-time each 9th episode in a season.
legodarknight101 If there is the slightest possibility someone could spoil you about a series, you really really REALLY should not be reading any comments sections related to that series, particularly on UA-cam. People will spoil you and laugh at you precisely because they know they pissed you off.
Walther der Minnesänger Hard to avoid one of the top comments though isn't it? And besides, this isn't a show spoiler. I wouldn't be annoyed about that because the episode has already aired, blah, blah, blah. This is a spoiler for an event that hasn't even made it on screen yet. I get your point dude, but it is sooooo fucking hard to avoid spoilers that I feel I need to live in a bubble and never go on the internet. EVER.
In response to Ana's comment about the 9th episode being the big action episode I would say this: there is a literary tradition called denouement. It is the falling action and tying up of loose ends after the climax. It dates back to Greek tragedy and it is tried in true in both historic and modern literature.
Enough with the attitude of superiority from those who have read the books and know what's going to happen. No, it doesn't make you smarter or superior. I am purposely not reading the books beyond where the TV series is because I'd rather see it unfold on the screen first.
Game of Thrones is over for the year, it's been wonderful but sad that it wont be on for another 10 months. Ben, Ana, John & Cenk, What the Flick's small council it's been an enjoyable 10 weeks all of you have brought your unique style to game of thrones, special thanks to guest council members Gina & Brett. I'm glad you've all found Game of Thrones to be just as great as I think it is, season 4 only going to get better with Dany, Tyrion, Arya, Jon, Stannis and Bran.
It's good to have a break from serious matters sometimes and really wrap your head around it for a while and have a good time doing it so we can go back to gravity and seriousness without going nuts. Nothing wrong with having some fun. You gotta have balance.
I think he quite enjoys listening to the theories and predictions everyone else comes up with. And it must be nice for them in turn to have someone to help them out who knows more about the people and the world of asoiaf than they do, but who they can trust not to spoil anything for them.
You got a lot of negative comments but you made a valid point. Anyone can go back and look at season 1 and compare it to season 3. The action and advancement of the story was great in season 1. This last season really seemed to drag on.
Everyone whines about when Daenerys still doesn't cross the water to invade King's Landing. The obvious problem there is that those dragons are still quite tiny, and need some more years to really bulk-up and be able to take care of themselves. I'm not just talking about food, but able to take on any Westrosi fool thinking to make a name for himself by trying to kill a dragon while he's sleeping.
Charles Dance has had a long career and is known for being an amazing actor. Funny enough though, in all of his interviews for Game of Thrones he always talks about how amazing the writing is.
Stannis' sense of justice tempered with Davos' humanity as Hand of the King would probably be one of the best outcomes that Westeros could hope for at this point. Ser Davos Seaworth is definitely one of my favourite characters.
Melisandre always saw Stannis as the reincarnation of the man (forget his name) who defeats "The great Other". She doesn't just decide being king doesn't matter, because in her visions the whitewalkers were always what he was meant for. This episode was basically the end of the war of the five kings. I think that's one of the main reasons they decided to split the book into two seasons.
is interesting that you got that impression at @19:00 the scene really felt like he was going to give her the bad news about her family and someone already told her...
I read the books and I don't feel superior. I love seeing whats going to happen every week...what will differ from the books....how the events I know are coming play out...etc. I am right there with ya!
The Hound analogy is apt, there is only one central character in the entire story I can think of who is never redeemed or subverted in some way, if you feel one way about a character right now, there is a good chance you will be feeling the complete opposite way within the next season.
Exactly, this is one of the questions, "Who is the TRUE King?" Well the Ancestors of the First Men are the furthest we can go about naming the true Ruler of Westeros.
In Jon Snow's defense, he wasn't trying to "rub it in" with the talk of love. Rather, Ygritte had a bow pointed at him and he was trying to talk her down from shooting him - or affirming that he knew she wouldn't do it. He was wrong, kinda, but that was his intent.
Love me some Game of Thrones but it would have been great editing if you could have showed small pictures of the characters when you started talking about them. Helpful.
John does. He read every single one of them. That's why he's not speculating as to what will happen next, like Cenk, Anna, or Ben. John already read the books and knows what is going to happen and he doesn't want to spoil it for anyone so he keeps quiet.
One of them has (John), which makes it interesting to watch him sit back and watch them argue, when he in fact knows all the answers. Also, if you follow the TV show you dont want to watch a postshow of them just talking about what is bound to happen (if they had read the books).
To answer the question at 24:00 The Lord Commander said (after Jon ran away the first time) that if they killed every man who left for a 'night' there wouldn't be anyone left in the night's watch. I take this to mean that never being with a woman part of the oath isn't punished by death as long as it's on the down low.
Due respect and appreciation for the courteous reply. Indeed she is an integral part. Among the most integral characters. I only believe she is overrated though she is also very much an admirable character in many ways for many people.
Besides the answer you've already gotten about John very much having read them, this is not for people who have read all the books. The purpose of this is to analyze what has happened, and make predictions about what we think will happen. Some of us like that because we also do not yet know what will happen. Hell, once I finish the books, I will still watch it. I like their predictions, right or wrong. It's interesting.
She had given that decree, true enough but she also thought, "Nor would she punish slaves for rising up against their masters." Ergo, even if it hadn't been during the sacking of the city, she would not have punished them for attacking their former masters.
They are referring to the fact that although WE know of Danaerys' existence, the WESTEROS world don't know that she's alive, thus rendering Stannis the 'in-show' widely recognised rightful king
Actually, most people in the Night's Watch go to brothels from time to time. There's a brothel in riding distance to Castle Black. There was a part where Jon's friends are about to go there and invite Jon too but he refuses because of his respect to the Night's Watch. Furthermore, the Night's Watch oath doesn't say anything about having sex, it forbids taking a wife and fathering children, but not sex.
AMEN to that! I actually hate how people act as though Jon is an idiot for choosing duty over love, and the same people criticise Robb for doing the opposite. Honestly I think Jon did right by his oath and by her (pretty sure the Watch wouldn't be too pleased about a Wildling woman in their midst) and I actually respect him more than I do just about any character in this show, and the books, aside from Tyrion.
His brother was a traitor. Stannis was next in line for the throne, Renly had no claim to the throne until Stannis was dead. Stannis even offered to name Renly his heir.
The guy without a jacket has read the all the books, and the guy on the far right has read the first one. They aren't discussing the books, though. They're just giving their thoughts as they go along for the ride like most of us are.
Is it me or is the audio in this off? For some reason Cenks voice is a pitch higher than normal. It sounds like Dominar Rygel XVI was sitting in on this one.
Dragonglass is obsidian!! Did they mention that in the series?? Cause I don't really remember!! And obsidian isn't that hard to find in Westeros!! Hell it's heavily located in Dragonstone!!
In the show, you can't hear his internal monologue like you can in the books. At this point in the books, I would have obviously said the same thing as you. A lot of internal character motivations are much more of a mystery to those who haven't read the books. Jon is POV character in the book, so we spend a lot more time with him directly, comparatively.
One comment: I think that the commentators have one thing here that is totally wrong: for the characters in this film, it really is all about family. Tywin is dedicated to the family and family name (and his children, even if he does not seem to care for them as individuals); Cersei does everything to protect her children; the Starks went to war over family.
It has probably already been proposed, but one f...ing year to wait the next season will be long. Why don't you guys make a review of the previous 2 seasons, 20 episodes in total, one review every 2 or 3 weeks... I for one would appreciate your thoughts on those. Anyway keep up the good work, best reviews of GoT on YT I've seen so far.
Not really just for the dany fans. The books are built that way: the climactic moment is the last but one chapter, then the last chapter is supposed to be where the cliffhanger is planted.
Robert was a great casting. He seems like an old, tired soldier who has to play King
Stannis is a great character i think. The actor is very good too.
he is the rightful king
théo blanchette Bend the knee of be destroyed... His words not mine! lol
Stephen Dilliane is the actor. His sons in Fear the walking dead.
@Sequentially Compact SPOILER ALERT................................You called it :P
I love you folks. i really do. keep on doing this. i've read the books, but i LOVE you guys. i'm there with you.
In the books, the Red Wedding isn't the ending either. To be fair how would people know about what Bran and Rickon are doing? Most people within the story think they are dead except Theon, Osha, and Hodor.
I love watching this after watching season 6 (I know the future)
There a lot of horrible things you can say about Cersei but I genuinely believe she cares deeply about her children.
Just want to say I've really enjoyed your GoT discussions guys. It's going to be a long wait until season 4 but I hope you do these again next season.
32:32 I felt the same watching that part it's like the "white saviour " image again and again
They have other channels too. TYTU, TYTinterviews, TYTshows, Townsquare etc.
I know about TYTU but didn't know about the others :P
I can't wait for GoT to resume, so that your show starts again! I love to listen to you, 3 Unsullied and 1 Sullied, such a great combination. See you on sunday! ^^
14:43 "has tywin lannister ever acted that good in his entire life?" you are talking about fucking CHARLES DANCE! OF COURSE HE HAS!
In contrast to some other professionally produced GOT reviews I enjoy the enthusiastic dynamic of WhatTheFlick, your passion and investment in this series is infectious. hope you do them again next season.
i like stannis :(
I do too. :)
+abdallaha92 Book Stannis, (real Stannis) yep still like him.
+abdallaha92 Season 5 spoilers:
I'm not sure like is the right word. I respect him, but I feel bad for him. His logic is sound but his critical thinking is poor. Best Review Show in all internet..
Keep the good work, you guys are the first review i try to see.. good work again..
keep simple.. keep casual.. and keep it humble
You guys should do a review on season 4 trailer
Love the reviews guys! Keep it up! Can't wait for next season
These actors are unknown in the USA, but are known in the uk and other countries.

We usually prefer or watch just as many British movies, and shows as we do American. Also lots of the actors are not British either, but from various European countries. JFYI.
Right! Charles Dance is a legend!
Fun, sharp analysing of a great show. Subbed!
This is fun to watch, and it is interesting to hear all these different views, but as a reader I wish there was a book expert on this show. There are a ton of little inaccuracies and misreads in this video especially.
well john has read the books. but he can't put out any spoilers lol.
Agreed. The guy who plays Little Finger plays the character he's supposed to be. Measured, calculating, deceitful smiles. The actor does a brilliant job portraying his character.
I would just like to point out that Ana's legs look gorgeous. K bye.
cersei was just shocked that smile on her face was of a moment of imagination. i feel like that was a moment where she only thought she was hearing his voice and then she turns and realizes shes not hearing things and she's shocked he's actually there. this lady had no idea he was coming back or that he was even alive and bam he shows up and she hears his voice she probably thought she was imagining things. so she just lets out this huge breath of air like woah.
He is the rightful king
***** The ONION LORD!
Jon snow is actually always been my favourite character since the first episode
Btw, Dragonstone is made of dragonglass.
da fuck is dragonglass
Irtaza Azam yeah, but what is it? What's it made of in the books?
kietasss Its meant to be obsidian.
I love how the guy who has read the books just sits back and watches them try to piece together what they think will happen
What, Cenk? You don't like littlefingers actor!?
Yeah I think he thinks he's really obnoxious but I think that works perfectly for his character.
I agree, I really like Littlefingers actor, however in the books (I have finished reading up to the TV series) I feel that Littlefinger is very sarcastic and obnoxious. So the actor does a very good job. In my opinion.
Mayor Carcetti doesn't approve.
AQGOAT24 Is it a 'The Wire' referrence?
TheRiulu Yeah same actor plays both characters.
I want to thanks all game of thrones; directors and cast members for doing a great job with this series that changed my life, and steal my breath and rest-time each 9th episode in a season.
Can't wait till Dany dies and the show casuals flip the fuck out
the show casuals will get to finish the series before the book tryhards
idiiidit Yea but the show casuals don't know that Jon Snow gets stabbed to death my the other men of the nights watch
Liam Jarman I hope that you're lying because if you've just spoilt that I will be pissed off with you.
legodarknight101

Watching people who haven't read the books discuss the show is the very best part of the show. Their theories are usually unintentionally hilarious.
5 Starks left...?? Jon Snow isn't a Stark!
Game of Thrones is over for the year, it's been wonderful but sad that it wont be on for another 10 months. As someone who has read the books, its so funny to see John's face when the guys make predictions
Not subscribed, but after watching them review the entire season, I will. These guys are pretty awesome
Right. John has a great will to be able to sit there and not correct them or let spoilers slip even the tiniest bit.
It's good to have a break from serious matters sometimes and really wrap your head around it for a while and have a good time doing it so we can go back to gravity and seriousness without going nuts. Nothing wrong with having some fun. You gotta have balance.
As a book reader, the 10th episode serves more as a transition for the next season, it helps project the near future of the characters and story arcs.
I think he quite enjoys listening to the theories and predictions everyone else comes up with. And it must be nice for them in turn to have someone to help them out who knows more about the people and the world of asoiaf than they do, but who they can trust not to spoil anything for them.
Listening this after having already read the books drives me nut I just want to reveal everything.
You got a lot of negative comments but you made a valid point. Anyone can go back and look at season 1 and compare it to season 3. The action and advancement of the story was great in season 1. This last season really seemed to drag on.
The actor who plays Ramsey was in a British tv show called misfits he's a fucking brilliant actor
This is by far the BEST group. Nice they are also reviewing the best show on tv :)
thank you for correcting him on the old ghiscari thing. my ocd went nuts for a moment there.
I love hearing people make predictions on this show. Based on what happens in the books, they are almost never right.
it was entertaing to watch this and chuckle at every speculation, when i know what will happen. ah i cant wait for the next book.
Everyone whines about when Daenerys still doesn't cross the water to invade King's Landing. The obvious problem there is that those dragons are still quite tiny, and need some more years to really bulk-up and be able to take care of themselves. You're right -- every time I listened to her it was like listening to someone ramble on about nothing as if it was a valid point.
"Nor would she punish slaves for rising up against their masters," is a direct quote.
Can't believe Cenk doesn't like Petyr and Robert's casting, they are perfect.
Exactly the common people don't really care who's king/queen, they just want to live their lives.
I wonder would you guys review episodes of Sons of Anarchy when it returns this fall?
Melisandre always saw Stannis as the reincarnation of the man (forget his name) who defeats "The great Other". She doesn't just decide being king doesn't matter, because in her visions the whitewalkers were always what he was meant for. This episode was basically the end of the war of the five kings. Just a couple more days and the new season begins! WOOP!!!
I really enjoyed your GoT post game wrap ups! Great insight and fun conversation. Thanks! Arghhh ten motherfucking months! Stay strong.
I read the books and I don't feel superior. I love seeing whats going to happen every week...what will differ from the books....how the events I know are coming play out...etc. I am right there with ya!
I'm gonna miss these recaps just as much as the show....
Helpful.
Summer children theories are always a pleasure :3
I know right. When Ben says "I don't want to see [dany] take another town" and he just busts out laughing.
0:43 the subtites. "Two Nurses (Danaerys) are assembling an army" LOL!
John does. He read every single one of them. That's why he's not speculating as to what will happen next, like Cenk, Anna, or Ben. John already read the books and knows what is going to happen and he doesn't want to spoil it for anyone so he keeps quiet.
I feel you on that...but as someone who has read the books, the TV show is mad more fun by the differences.
John's shirt is amazing.
He has his faults, but he'll make the best and most just king of all the choices. Love Arya too, she's an awesome character, shes my second favourite.
what Arya says at the last is what the the faceless one told her to say when she was ready to train to become one of them.
I love that the one book reader in this panel just sits there, smirking :) lol...
Due respect and appreciation for the courteous reply. Indeed she is an integral part. Among the most integral characters. I only believe she is overrated though she is also very much an admirable character in many ways for many people.
Besides the answer you've already gotten about John very much having read them, this is not for people who have read all the books. I hate that I don't have GoT to look forward to every Sunday. And it's hard to be as excited about other shows once you've seen GoT.
For season 4, each of these ep discussions need to start with TYT/WTF crew singing the theme song
dany's like "you are all individuals!" life of brian.
Cenk is so fun to watch because he gets so into it. "wasiktir! wasiktir! starks send their regards! what now!" i just lose it every time.
His brother was a traitor. Stannis was next in line for the throne, Renly had no claim to the throne until Stannis was dead. Stannis even offered to name Renly his heir.

That look to the camera when the guy says the Jaime/Tyrion combo is gone, oh the spoilers that man wanted to tell
John, how hard is it to sit in on these while they speculate about what's goin to happen and NOT give anything away?
i thought tyrion was gonna break the news about her family but when he saw the look on sansas face he walked out
Is it me or is the audio in this off? For some reason Cenks voice is a pitch higher than normal. It sounds like Dominar Rygel XVI was sitting in on this one.

Tywin is dedicated to the family and family name (and his children, even if he does not seem to care for them as individuals); Cersei does everything to protect her children; the Starks went to war over family.
I 100% agree. Many times got angry because I wanted to reply on a comment that predicted something wrong... but i did not want to be a spoiler...
