@@Ar1AnX1x I think it wasn't so much by denying the awkwardness that it worked, but by embracing it and accepting it. Then with a bold move, bringing a laugh 😂
That was amazing. The question was of course staged (I mean that must be the most asked question in interviews with cast members of the series) and the answers were pretty standard, and the idea was to play on the cast's embarassement (real or fake) in front of George. With a few simple words, and a pause, Nikolaj managed to make everybody laugh and at the same time, in a way, to turn the joke on George. The cast had all a moment of realization before laughing so I really think Nikolaj's answer was pure improv, something he came up with after listening to Maisie's answer. He's a good actor and a great guy too, just watch his interviews with Gwendoline, you'll also see there's a dark side to his humor.
Nikolaj was perfect...the deadpan delivery/the pause to let everybody get their laugh on/the shrug was brilliant & perfectly timed/& just when everybody was calming down from the original he slips in (still with perfect deadpan delivery) the knockout punch... Brilliant. But Sophie? If being intimidated by reading because it's so complicated is comedic then...I guess (#shrug)
Id say so too. Its a shame how they wasted her in season 7/8. I just wish they kept some of her more insane antics like bombing the Tower of the Hand and killing off the High Septon.
Lena played a character whose "motherly" features were more accentuated. While Cersei in the books is also a devoted mother, that devotion mixes with obsession, insanity, paranoia and deepseated insecurities. Cersei in the show doesn't nearly come across as much of a huge bitch as she did in the books.

@@thejawgz6719 I'm done waiting, but I still have hope. My belief is that the reason each book has taken longer to come out, and the reason he still hasn't finished 6, is that the plot strings have become so hideously complicated that it's taking him forever to rearrange everything to make sure there are no inconsistencies. My guess is that he's writing books 6 and 7 simultaneously (or at least planning the story), and if we ever do get tWoW, it might be a short winter before aDoS. As someone who has read game of thrones about 7-8 times I genuinely don’t understand how you could do this show and NOT read the books. They’re so good lol
Same thoughts. Even if you only read the chapters about your character you miss their appearances and references in others' POVs. But if you don't read at all, you miss the entire inner dialogue of your character!
And now George's biggest regret is not staying ahead of the show cause the tv writers fucked up the ending big time. I just hope after George does finish the story, we can get a movie to replace the last season. Literally the best tv show ever made and they go and butcher the ending like that.
As if Seasons 5-7 were good and not in desperate need for readaptation as well. Season 8 might be a bad ending for the books, but it is an aptly rushed and mediocre ending for the rushed and mediocre second half of the show (e.g. Martin hopes in the interview that the massive Books 4 and 5 will be adapted into 2-3 seasons: the show - very loosely - adapted them into a single season). George finishing the books won't make pre-season 8 Euron salvageable in a S8 replacement movie. You either remake the second half of the show or don't remake at all.
One of the greatest changes the show made from the books is just like Maisie Williams said, in the books she serves as Cupbearer at Harrenhal for Roose Bolton -- not Tywin Lannister like it is in the show. And some of those moments between her and Tywin were brilliant, with him being impressed at her intelligence on an almost like fatherly or grandfatherly level. Some might even think that it also factored into her decision to not name him as one of the three people she wanted Jaqen H'ghar to kill. If she did name him, it would have had perhaps an even greater effect on the overall war of the Five Kings than it would have if she had even named someone like Joffrey. Tywin Lannister wasn't the King, but he arguably had more power than any of the Kings that ever served.
When you actually analyze those scenes it's really idiotic though.. like there's no possible way on earth TYWIN Lannister doesn't realize just who in the hell she is; he acknowledged she's a high born posing as a low born, she can read and has a MAESTERS-esque knowledge of the Targaryen's (specifically regarding Harrenhal), he knows she's from the North and her "mother served lady Dustin" (so how in the flying fuck could she have gotten down there?), her 'stonemason' father was "killed" by "loyalty", and most importantly he knows Arya Stark hasn't been seen since Ned's death; there's not a shot in hell he doesn't connect the dots, or at a bare minimum suspect something is amuck 🤷
@@CommanderLongJohn Yes. I agree with everything you just said. But that's just it, I think he DOES know she's high born and posing as a low born. I think he even realizes that she is a high born girl from the North. BUT he enjoyed her company so much he was willing to overlook it. It's not as if he let her go, she was basically still his captive but she was given privileged access to his company just because he liked her so much. But he wasn't letting her go. She had to escape. My own personal take from it is he knew she was high born and from the North, but he didn't know she was a Stark. If he knew that, he could've used her to force Robb Stark to end the war immediately or she would have been executed or something. He probably assumed she was high born from the North from a smaller house, but high born all the same.
@@voteZDLR agree, he probably thought she was a high born but not from an important house. at this point I think Tywin thought Arya was in the capital, so of course he would never think this dirty girl would be the daughter of Ned Stark.
@@CommanderLongJohn Imo, Tywin figuring out Arya Stark's identity would have been too cliche. Like OF COURSE Arya becomes the servant of Tywin because OF COURSE he happened to park his army in Harrenhal at the same time Arya was there. And then OF COURSE Tywin figures it all it because he's a smart, analytical character. I think a large part of what makes the interactions between Arya and Tywin so great, is because in pretty much no other circumstance would they be able to talk casually. The expectation is that Arya will get caught if she doesn't play her cards right. She could say something wrong, give the wrong kind of information, or something else. It makes the audience hang on to every word. Then against expectation, the duo gets along well.
It was starting to get a bit depressing with all the actors (except Kit) saying they hadn't read it. Chops to him for not delivering another dry boring negative and instead lightening the mood with some wit.

From what ive heard about the two fake writers, i wouldnt be supprised if they prepped the actors to say they didnt read it, just to have a dig at G Martin.
Great cast of actors. Great cast of characters. I cant believe Lady Stoneheart wasn't mentioned when Cat said she read her chapters. Still surprised all these years later we never got her in the show.
Well, although I can't say whether there are any lady stoneheart chapters in dance of dragons (I still have to finish that one), it's not at all obvious from just reading the "Catelyn" chapters and nothing else, that she would turn into lady stoneheart. Furthermore, After Catelyn dies, lady stoneheart is mentioned only indirectly or in passing. One chapter is a POV from a frey, meeting stoneheart for a hot minute before being hanged. Not exactly lots of information here. The rest is mostly just the chapters from the POV of Brienne. And even then only when Brienne gets hanged by Stoneheart. Their meeting is very very brief. In any case, Stoneheart is no longer really an important character in terms of big events anymore. Her actions have consequences, but they are consequences because of the actions of the brotherhood without banners in general. We don't need to see her perspective on things, because her perspective is very straightforward: "blind vengeance". And It was pretty clear after a while that D&D weren't going to invite her actress anymore and were going in a different direction after a while.

With a few simple words, and a pause, Nikolaj managed to make everybody laugh and at the same time, in a way, to turn the joke on George. The cast had all a moment of realization before laughing so I really think Nikolaj's answer was pure improv, something he came up with after listening to Maisie's answer. My guess is that he's writing books 6 and 7 simultaneously (or at least planning the story), and if we ever do get tWoW, it might be a short winter before aDoS. As if Seasons 5-7 were good and not in desperate need for readaptation as well.

@@RedFloyd469I thought that Stoneheart was a great storyline but appears d&d wanted to simplify and aim to wards single story at the endl.
George builds all these wonderful threads and they cut them so that we can get standard Hollywood boy and girl story
Imagine being a teenager and the showrunners just randomly decide "there were no scenes with Arya Stark and Tywin Lannister in the books, but we're going to have you shoot scenes one-on-one with Chatles Dance". Incredible.
As an avid "always sunny" fan, and a major GoT nerd.. I'm loving this!
10:25 Seeing the complete lack of reaction here for a solid 5 seconds was hilarious to me
i was just cringing incredibly
@@frozenfire2634 we all were :)
he's like "how do I end this man's career without ending this man's career?"
Considering Peter’s virtue signaling ramblings about Snow White and the Seven Dwarves actually caused Disney to completely butcher the story.
2024 ALREADY AND WE ARE STILL WAITING... GEORGE!!!
"I don't want to think, you know, my story line is going off in one direction, and then because it's just an adaptation, goes off on a completely different one." - Oh, if she only knew.
12:29 - GRRM's worries were well founded.
Extremely well found.
I never fancied game of thrones. Then decided to give 1 episode a try. Then got hooked on the series and watched the first 4 seasons that were out. Then read all the books, then the next seasons until the end. Have since watched series 3 times, and will read the books again soon hopefully.
You’re talking to me right now!!! And then, I’m here watching all their interviews. I stopped watching any series after GOT unless Turkish series. Then, I’ve included HoTD as my next movie stalker
Same.
I just started watching it like a week and a half ago.
Almost at the end of s4.
So far , it's the absolute best story I've seen acted.
You should stay if these videos then to avoid spoilers and people opinions affecting your watch
Good to hear man. And congrats on you're contribution to the defense of Britain.
I'll never understand how they don't get curious enough to read the books specially since the story seems unique and well written enough
but I guess not everybody likes Fantasy, maybe because it's too brutal.
Eh, it's not for everyone, but especially the fact that for such long books, I am not sure the actors would have had much time on their hands.
I would also assume some actors dont want to be influences by the books since they are not the same as the show. Better to follow the writing and direction of the show instead of getting it confused with other material.
its interesting to me that they are not particularly interested in the story. Actors always go on about doing research and so on, yet almost none of them have. I actually think its pretty poor form to have not read them. Even if the events differ slightly, reading the book can tell you alot about the characters themselves.
its pretty lazy frankly, considering how much frickin money they all got paid.
@@ktwashere5637 yeah I kinda think its weird because its an interesting story but people have different tastes, but few of them really like the books like Jon Snow and Barristan's actors.
@@ktwashere5637I agree...like they have to know what's going on in westeros and WHY their character chose to do what they did...what all events occured in their life and how it shaped their character
“The gang interviews game of thrones”
It’s difficult to take the host serious after watching 5 seasons of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. 😅
the fact that lena didn't read the books but hit Cersei so spot on is cool
Little did george know Dick and Dickhead would literally catch up the next day lol.
I wonder if his anxiety is dormantly extreme today since here he had said that he was starting to get afraid that they would catch up.
This reminds me of when the teacher in school walked through class to check who did his homework and noone did it.
Now that their characters got butchered
I suggest them to read the books
you know what's funny if they all did read the books they'd probably all go to HBO and ask for a semi-reboot of the series from say season 5 onwards without DandD and new head writers and directors. You could use Jon's death and Resurrection as both a good stepping off point and as a metaphor for the franchise coming back to life. probably won't happen tho sadly because how do you explain how Jon died in his twenties and comes back looking ten years older same goes for all the cast.
I feel like most of the actors are the extrovert type of people that don't really like reading books that much specially fantasy, obviously not all of them but that's my guess.
but aside from that I'd be shocked if they didn't get curious enough to read it finally, because you don't wanna end that chapter of your life on such a low point.
I think they'd be surprised how well written their characters are in the books.
GRRM is the master of writing deeply flawed and fucked up characters that are very unique and believable and in turn Likable.
@@Ar1AnX1x same for me, i never read a book in my life even in school 😂
But it looks like season 8 pushed me to read the books so i am kinda thankful for that lol
@@dekarmeryalmar8774 so did you read them?
I like how everyone is talking about dying yet everyone here's character made it all the way to the end except Cat
Lena: "I am scared I am gonna die."
camera zooms in Catelyn and Jon...
Ahahhaha
Oh the good ol days when everyone was friendly.
You mean the cast? Pretty sure they’re still friendly. Mommoa and Emilia Clarke were at Benioff’s birthday recently.
@@UuzerName I didn't think I needed to say but of course I mean D&D and George. The cast with few exceptions are all very friendly with each other
@@BubblegumCrash332 what happend to George? I never heard anything about him being an asshole.
@@thanatoswaker2778 he stopped watching or talking about Game of Thrones around the time D&D (season 5) decided to take the show in completely different direction.
@@BubblegumCrash332 cant blame the guy. Also, he was probably under contract.
I love how George took this as an opportunity to basically tell people to stop sending him unsolicited audition tapes XD
Plot twist: they're all lying and they're just coming up with reasons on why they didn't read the books to not hurt GRRM's feelings, mean while GRRM doesn't give a shit about it at all and he knows they're lying and finds it extremely amusing and funny.
Calm down....deep breaths
Not even a plot twist, thats obviously what's happening haha
to George or to the fans????
In the end, still no book six, but hey, the locomotive didn't run over GRRM, it derailed and passed him on the side.
13:30 OH YEAH GEORGE? WILL IT?!
Still waiting
@ it ain't coming out. that old farts gonna die before he finishes it.
@@WrangleMcDangle 2 books to go. Never gonna happen. Or maybe if he wright both together it could happen. Otherwise yeah we will never have the end
@ just sad man oh well
I was like how old is this, then I saw Jaime with long hair and was like : yep this kind of old.
Damn, the first 6 minutes was so painfully awkward. Then NCW with the win of a much needed laugh, and that was the only answer he gave. Hilarious!
For real
10:33 That maisie and George Laugh, tell u didn't just smile ❤️❤️ May god protect them
Wait a minute, Catelyn and Jon are sitting side by side and laughing 😨😱
Wait until you notice that Cat is laughing at JAIME's joke!!
It’s interesting to compare the GOT set to the Lotr set, where like everyone was constantly reading the books. Also I’m glad Peter hasn’t read Dance, because then he’d be mad too about the direction of Tyrians character
Nikolaj: *smiles*
Everyone: HAHHAHAHAHAHA
5:55
My favorite character is Tyrion.. Cannot imagine the show without him acting in it
He picked it up and ran with it.
A few characters went beyond the book and added substance.
Tyrion
The Hound
Bronn
0:35 George looks like a proud grandfather between all of them ! 😂😂😂😂😂
D&D aree the 2 evil step sons who want to destroy their fathers castle.
Narrator: He did not, in fact, finish the books on time.
Peter: I'm going to read the books once my character gets killed
He got to wait a while xD
Lena Headey is so great Actress and she deserve many many awards
Adding the Arya and Tywin scenes was the best change the showrunners made by far, those scenes were tremendous. Most of the changes they made from the source material were executed rather poorly, but that change was an inspired one
"Rather poorly" LMAO
Honestly most of their changes in season 1-3 were actually for the better at least on television. It wasn't until season 4 that the changes started to detract anything and season 5 when they basically started telling their own story, and that being not a very good one of course. Specifically id point to Rob stark who they really fleshed out better than to books imo.
12:00. honestly best part of the vid.
love the way he describes his own struggle and his own pace lol
I feel bad. gotta love the guy. kinda feel like the fame and the pressure got into him though.
hope he doesn't lose his love for writing
They went so quickly from “so what did we think of the reading” to “did anyone do the reading”
It's also so strange seeing Dinklage not in "Tyrion" mode. I'm glad he made Tyrion's voice so distinctly unique which will help with typecasting
My wife and i bursted out laughing on Nikolaj's response lol
Mannn u can see immediately on the directors faces after George said “I’ll be writing book 7” they were out for the count very very very sad, it could have truly been the longest running show that isn’t a geeky sitcom but rather a true masterpiece
