    Totally agree with this video! I would have missed out on so many of my favorite games if I listened to reviewers

    Hating on game journalists is all the rage right now and it will probably stay that way. It is interesting to see a critique on UA-cam reviewers that is the first I seen a whole video on it before. I believe their style is a completely different beast to a standard paid reviewers and should be talked about even the bad. Its a shame this got so little views as I think this video is a well made one and would like to see more videos like this one.

      More traditional reviewers I believe are more objective by design. Absolutely no one can make be completely objective that much is true. However I think standard journalist are highly incentivized by whoever owns the company to not put there subjective opinions in there reviews. UA-camrs hold no such obligations and many do not stop themselves from putting too many subjective viewpoints in there videos. I believe this is a feature to most and not a flaw.
      As I said before people have biases and it won't be a shock to hear that they gravitate twored people who share the same biases. If I watch a youtuber who I completely agreed with about a game in the past. And then they release a video about a new game who is very similar. It makes me think that maybe I should listen to there opinions this time as well. Long story short people start watching zero punctuation for the "he he ha ha"s, but then figure out his review style and trust or distrust his views afterwords.

    I enjoyed the video, but i disagree a bit on the point that reviews exist just to help people decide if a game is worth their time. It also that sure, but I honestly think it can be a place of discussion and help people express themselves about the media they consumed. Afterall official critics are technically journalists, it's their job inform the masses and give tgem perspective

    I have this thing, where I watch reviews and critics after I experience games and series, to kinda "approve" my opinions, become happy for positive Arcane reviews or sad for bad AC Odyssey reviews. But I see it now in my age, after doing this for some time, and with this video, that's not healthy, your opnion should always matter first.

    Good stuff! Shitty reviewers are old - but at least they werent dishonest. The best thing to do is find out what critics you can and cannot trust and base yourself on htat.

    Have you watched Babylon 5? i'm pretty sure from the sound of your character first, the second season on the characters are top tier, though i think season 1 has pacing issues its still a pretty good episodic bit of story telling with little bits of the major plot intertwined more as time goes on.
    Also be sure you check out the hasbro figures!
    Malgus is getting a six inch figure sometime soon!

    I disagree and agree at the same time. One thing I agree with, a lot of stuff in the review world is bias towards a political standpoint. Indeed, that is the case. At the same time tho, with how political all forms of media have been these days, we do need people who review them and expose them for the blatant shit they put on screen. Take for example, Velma or She-Hulk, abominable garbage shows based only in identity politics, and that's basically it. The characters, either too shit for me to ever enjoy or they are pushing some agenda I just don't stand with. Not to mention the comments some of the people working on the movies and shows have said, that focus not on comedy, not on any enjoyment factor, but only focusing on pushing something, either race, sexuality, or gender. In that regard, we need reviews to help us not waste our money on movies we aren't going to enjoy. Not to mention sometimes we just need youtube reviews for shit movies like Quantumania, which I watched in the theater then regretted spending the money to watch it from how absolutely terrible it was. So yeah, granted alot of your points are accurate, but alot of them are also kinda like, you're missing the point of some people who review movies, because they are actually trying to help people.

    This realisation for me happened when the wave of hate came with the rings of power before even a single episode came out just because it was produced by amazon… more lotr stories the better imo… I really enjoyed watching Durin, his wife Disa and Elrond bickering.
    The most annoying thing for me is when my friends regurgitate a youtubers point of view… dead space good Callisto protocol bad… they hadn’t played either and that was the prevailing narrative… feel like a lot of people have given up on their own critical thinking… and they miss out on things that they themselves might potentially enjoy

      I've never understood people who shit talk games/films they have never played/seen just because a youtuber said it was bad. That drives me up a wall whenever my friends do it.

    To be 100% completely honest, I don’t care if video games get better or worse over time as of 2023. And I don’t care if I play a good or bad video game on my PSP, PS2, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Switch in 2023 and onwards, I just want to watch the whole world burn to the ground at the end of the day. I just want to play games that I want to play. I don’t want to team up with one side or the other, I want to stay only in the middle of this war, stay out of people’s business and give my brutally honest unpopular opinion! That’s all there is to it!
    And that goes the same for movies, music and TV as well. PLEASE LET ME ENJOY MY VIDEO GAMES, MOVIES, MUSIC AND TV THAT I PERSONALLY LOVE!!! I DON’T CARE WHAT PLAY, WATCH OR LISTEN TO IS GOOD, BAD, MEDIOCRE, OVERRATED, UNDERRATED, A HIDDEN GEM, A GUILTY PLEASURE OR A CULT CLASSIC, IF IT INTERESTS ME I'M GOING TO PLAY, WATCH, OR LISTEN TO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE I WANT TO AND IF IT DOESN’T I’M NOT GOING TO!!! JUST PLEASE LET ME ALONE!!!😡🤬😭😔

    I think what gets lost with Galadriel is that she isn't a Mary sue like Rey was in the first film, but also similar with Rey she is a poorly written character in a poorly written series.
    Now we can talk about just how poorly written either the show that has somebody swim across an ocean in armour.. or the one that changes major characters personalities, while copying a previous installments plot.. but her being labeled isn't much of an issue, People didn't think Rings of power was going to be good and it ended up being pretty bad.
    I get not judging stuff before it comes out but there is a trend where social justice politics inserted into media cause massive issues, I agree calling out Lucas is stupid he was great.. but he wasn't perfect and saying "oh he did starwars" but he didn't do it alone.
    Episode 1 2 and 3, were made poorly because Lucas believed his own hype.. the story and characters under it.. great but he even admitted he went too far, in episodes 4-5-6 he had others making sure the reins didn't get too far ahead of them, just like the creator of Star trek did not make that universe alone.. infact as the series went on Gene became more of a problem than a help.

      Shit, i hate when i fat finger my mouse and it goes back and erases a comment in process (as i reply as i watch)
      I Disagree with saying "Channels like this" Clearly the first example you give is a good one of poor review the clips you give show they really didn't think Andor was gonna be good.. and even as a massive starwars fan myself (i have a room full of merch)
      I didn't like Andor that much around episode 4-5-6 yeah it picked up.. but i also think Mando is overrated.. not bad just not as great as people shout..
      Still servicable and decent media much better than most of what i've seen recently, but not on par with Sg1, Babylon 5, Space above and Beyond.. etc.
      I don't think you can just throw in "channels like this" without evidence, but also UA-cam and human nature DOES heavily encourage being hateful to get clicks, your thumbnail being hateful and jokey about an unpopular show will get more clicks than a happy one.. even if the content is moderate.
      I do feel his point though the Male strong character is being subverted as toxic masculinity, but i do agree that there aren't character types that are hard or easy to write.. if you know a story it doesn't matter what the characters arc type is.. its pretty simple in my opinion, respecting the source material and what came before that seems to be much harder for people like those at Disney but Andor and Mando have done a decent job.
      and my favorite starwars is TCW and Rebels the later seasons, and of course Empire/jedi, but in those the first seasons really started poorly as most do.. even Avatar the last air bender was abit weak in season 1, and my favorite show of all time Babylon 5.
      Shows don't always come together right away, but shows like Rings of power when "Those people" are pouring politics.. ignoring the source material entirely.. you know that is going to be a stinker before it comes out.. but i wouldn't make a video saying so.. i'd just encourage people to "wait for the reviews once its out, don't buy into watching it on release"

    • @dawfydd
      @dawfydd Рік тому

      I also think it a little condescending to say "don't get hooked on the points they make are right cause they're not right on everything" because that's everyone, nobody is always right we must always disagree with others, I might agree with some of these guys on some points, then massively disagree that Stoic men are hard to write for.. or many of the other points you showed him making, but i haven't seen his content so i can't know for sure what i do or don't entirely.
      What we should always encourage is critical thinking, and reviewing your own ideas and thoughts, and i do believe through experiencing it myself that the heroes journey character has been massively under used or scaled back in power in recent years, to say or think that Hollywood doesn't have an Agenda or that a culture war isn't happening in both directions would be foolish.
      I also encourage people just not to watch videos or content about up coming shows i kept mostly away from andor, and i even didn't watch it until it was all out, i'd heard the good and bad somewhat in passing and i knew i was going to watch it anyway, but i made sure i had the time to sit and watch it.
      But i also heard that episode 1 and 2 were pretty slow which made me delay watching it until it was all out and that was a good choice i didn't like how slow it was.. but having more to watch after made it easier for me to consume.
      I don't think we should put it into the creators lap to be better, i think we should expect each person to be better, we shouldn't assume that people are drones and just follow hate mobs because its fun (Though it looks like some people do, on both sides of this culture war)
      We should encourage each person to have as much critical thinking skills and to look for opinions outside of their common circles as much as possible.

    • @evozor5874
      @evozor5874  Рік тому

      I disagree with a fair amount of what you said in this thread haha but I agree with your endpoint that we really should encourage critical thinking. I think the creators bear a lot of the responsibility but I don't think they (on the whole) will ever change so the main difference that can be made is on an individual level. I'm sure we'll end up going back and forth on many of these points at some point when I stream lol.

    • @dawfydd
      @dawfydd Рік тому

      @@evozor5874 its very hard to police yourself though i mean the best people can, and be good people every minute of the day but most people who stream aren't the best of us, they're just people like us.
      there have been times i've said and done things i really wish i hadn't and i've used it to make sure i don't do them again, like Pewdiepie saying the N word, people would say he should bear that responsibility i disagree that he should know better than to have reactions in the heat of the moment, his Responsibility is more to himself to learn not to use that word again.
      But i think until we have a world where we can forgive oversights in judgement we are stuck judging people who sometimes shouldn't be judged as harshly.
      Though the critical drinker the guy who's clips i disagree with the most i think the solution to that is a debate between him and somebody like you, to help change his mind.
      in a way that isn't placing blame but trying to explore why he feels that way and explaining the other way he can go about trying to make change.

    • @dawfydd
      @dawfydd Рік тому

      i also don't think it was the culture war but just the last 20 years its been harder to debate people, Peoples opinions have become the people rather than debating the topic people do personal attacks i feel like that is the worst part of this, because ideas debated can be corrected and should be, we'll all be massively wrong during our lives it should be our goal to learn from our mistakes.
      Hopefully in the future things will change.
