Thank you for the video! I was one of the devs and it was actually my first professional project. While I am still sad that we had to close, I am glad that I got the chance to be part of the team. It was a great experience. Regarding the open level structure and free choice of characters: I actually wanted to implement some bonus levels in the style of the character tutorials in which the puzzles and characters are per-determined to create challenges in the style of the previous games. Unfortunately we didn't have time to add more stuff to the game so I couldn't follow through with that idea. Also an editor for the game is now available :) You cannot create completely new levels but you can change the NPCs on an island and even create new missions that can also be shared.
My friend, i do like your games and i appreciate all the hard work. Stealth is my favorite game genre. However, in Desperados 2......that may be where you dropped the ball. Over the top stealth that didn't work. Too few resources and Cooper, who's a gunslinger, can shoot once every 10 seconds. Do me a favor and play Desperados 2 if you haven't already. You can use the classic top-down view or isometric, not sure what it's called. And at any time, you can switch to 3rd person shooter and clear the entire map solo, you cannot kill civilians though or lawmen. If you do, it's game over. Best way is to change views within the same mission to get through different situations and to plan those pre-arranged co-op moves.
two of what you asked for have been provided, the first is Zegan's map which was the hardest with how many floors and enemies they put in each floor, the second one is that they allowed mods and editing maps, i'm bad at editing but i hope other fans provide us with so many custom maps to be able to play this game for years to come
You made me want to test those character combos. My personal fav is Quentin + enhanced Teresa so you can get back her bolt with Quentin's fishing pole after a perfect shot.
I just recently discovered their games, only played Desperados III and got the platinum, loved the game, it's sad they are closing, I will play Tactics and Gambit , looks awesome games too.
I just recently played there games as well, I bought desperados 3 on steam deck and thought it was really cool. I then bought shadow tactics and had no idea it was the same studio at the time. I wish Mimimi the best but I can’t help but feel like they were about to take off in popularity but maybe they feel they’ve done what they could in this style game and want to move on. Either way I appreciate all 3 of those gems!!
Thank you for the great review. I already played through the entire game and loved it to bits just like Shadow Tactics and Desperados, was just lookong for more on the game now that the DLCs are in reach for me. As something close to how great Mimimi games were, there's War Mongrels, a similar stealth tactics game set in WWII that I've honestly been greatly enjoying recently while waiting for Shadow Gambit's DLC. This kind of gives me hope that the stealth tactics genre won't die again so easily and other studios will create more fun games like these.
I love Mimimi's titles and I'm sad to see them go. I've heard of Sumerian Six which is about magic/ magwitch enhanced archaeologist commandos. It isn't out yet, but it looks to have some interesting ideas for abilities.
I am somewhat new to the whole tactics thing even though 13+ years ago i played em on my ps1, i think you just convinced me to get this game, i already bought Shadow Tactics, just need Desperados 3 and this game
Hey just found your channel when searching up more about the game. Definitely missed the first of the series so gotta check it up. And if you haven’t seen already than the game actually has two dlc’s, I’d really recommend them.
I haven’t tried it, but War Mongrels is a WW2 stealth strategy game that looks like it could be decent. Definitely inspired by Commandos and Mimimi’s games.
Great game. I played the original Desperados as a kid and loved it, then picked up Shadow Tactics when it was sold with a game magazine, then ended up buying all their games plus DLCs. They are massively overlooked pieces of gameplay media in my opinion. My main (and only) gripe with the game may well be the grind necessary to unlock the final character - getting these last % points felt more like a chore. Some badges didn't feel fair to me and the lack of map variety did make me feel like groaning when having to come back to one again and again at points. Then again I feel like I would have enjoyed that postgame better had I been able to spread it out more, so I am partially to be blamed as well.
You should check the Lamplighter's League. Surely not as perfect as Mimimi games, but it mix stealth strategy with CRPG in a really cool way. Also, the lore about agents in a 1930's alternate History, trying to stop, not one, but three secret societies to take over the world is awesome.
I don´t blame them for trying new things even if not all worked out perfectly, they have 5 games sold on big platforms (I´m unaware of their history prior to those, I pressume like most devs the core team started making free flash, java or RPG maker games). 4 of them are Stealth Strategy (love that they invented the term because they though RTT was too broad, I agree), 2 of the same series and another from a series it´s not theirs. This happens a lot with genre dev, happens to all indie adventure PnC devs, happens to Frogware with their gazillion games on Sherlock Holmes, even happens on Bethesda as their test new features in one game, and depending on success some of those make it into the next game or not alongside new experiments. It´s a complex situation because while some may criticize experimenting, nobody would continue buying regardless if you always produce the same thing. Should you make always the same product it sold well priorly expecting it to sell that well constantly but taking away all artistic inspiration or new ideas you get? Because I don´t think that works either, Aiko´s Choice is basically just more Shadow Tactics, and it sold pretty porly compared, not even half the people that bought Shadow Tactics and praised it on reviews did the same for Aiko´s Choice, not even now that the game is on sale for 5,99. So for what it´s worth, if we were only gonna get Mimimi games for a short time regardless, I´m glad they had the chance to not only revitalize the genre, provide it with some of it´s best examples (not that are that many let´s be real, this is a less than 20 games genre, and half of them are really really bad), but also expand on it, even if not all those ideas were gold.
Sad that they are going, but I am also hopeful for the revival of the commandoes series. commandos is the first game of this genre and Mimimi was inspired by them and the original desperados to make their games! I just wish this genre does not end cause it is also my favorite of all games
There´s an announced Commandos: Origins since one or two years ago, but very little information. People need to understand it´s a Spanish dev, just like Mimimi were German. Like all other entertainment products, producing in Europe is not as simple, so if I were you I would not get my hopes for at least 2-3 years from now. Maybe we´ll get a trailer in 2024, MAYBE.
While I believe Mimimi games are the best in the genre, I'd recommend giving War Mongrels, and their latest 63 Days, both well worth playing for anyone that enjoys this genre.
Oh… I just discovered desperado 3 and I’m feeling like it’s a best game ever. So it’s an extremely disappointed to know that’s mimimi studio is closed 😢😢😢😢
Hi there, would like to know if you are still doing badges to unlock Virgilio? I'm currently at 65%, and its EXTREMELY slow, as each badge only gives you 0.1%, which is ridiculous. Using treasure hunts makes it a bit faster .Do you have any other tips for badges?
Thank you for the video!

I didn't even know you could do that lol
with only (upgraded) Teresa + Pinkus you can have a massacre
You can do that?!?. Ama try it😂
I just recently discovered their games, only played Desperados III and got the platinum, loved the game, it's sad they are closing, I will play Tactics and Gambit , looks awesome games too.
Sad to see them go :( I like Shadow gambit and need to start my playthrough!

My favorite game/genre in a long long time!!

I just bought the game on Steam and yeah, learning about the studio’s closure is a real bummer.
Well, pirates ARRRRRRRRRR pretty neat.
maybe Evozor will not read this but FRIGATO: SHADOWS OF THE CARIBBEAN seems that kind of game too

No, they are shutting down that’s so depressing. Shadow gambit 2 would of been dope
It would have been. What's the no in response to though?
Aah it pains a lot to see them go

Rahhh (they removed speedrun achievements yay)
