Can't believe you didn't mention the worst open world pokemon game
Sure pokemon go's map is massive, and full of cool things, but the NPCs attack you when you enter their homes and not even with pokemon. Travelling takes ages. The spawns are mostly the same anywhere and your skill level is dependant on how much you spend.

    • @ahmahti1334
      @ahmahti1334 13 днів тому +1

that sounds a whole lot like a skill issue. wdym travelling takes ages; are you wheelchair bound and spawns can be repeating themselves if there's a certain event going on, oh yeah and the point of pokemon go is that it requires no skill, but you can have some skill at it. so i have no idea what you mean by "your skill level is dependant on how much you spend". it's funny that you even compare open world games to the likes of a game like pokemon go.

Can't express just how much I agree with the Minecraft section as of late. I'd love to play the game again but can't help but feel since the cave update, I can sink actual hours into the game without actually achieving anything.

precisely, i love minecraft and i love playing it with my friends but we all start to lose interest after a week. We aren't hermitcraft or youtubers that have the time to waste on mining for hours and making mega structures and eventually all the hours we sink into the game feel wasted.

I feel like we should go back to sand box games because huge open worlds that just use fetch quests or taking out enemy camp/bases as a excuse to make you travel the over sized empty map is getting old a reasonable sized sand box just makes everything more condensed

Honestly hard agree with that. For an open world games to exist in its purest form almost needs to have really good story telling to go along side its world.
I love Minecraft and modding is one of the main things that has kept it so alive for all these years as it just builds another 20 layers of content onto an already amazing game.

For me the parts you outline about Pokemon are the reasons I stuck with these games despite not enjoying open worlds. It only created a problem for me BECAUSE of how open S/V is otherwise. I tried to do the gym leaders in order of weakest to strongest and ended up over-leveled each time. I don't really see a way to fix this in Pokemon games specifically, where your team composition and levels can vary wildly.
Level scaling is what people always suggest, but the reality of that is a programmer's nightmare and the only reason something like Pokemon Stadium managed it was because it the minimum level is 50, after you'd likely already have the strongest moves or evolutions. Expecting each trainer to have 8 variations of their team with levels and evolutions sounds like way too much effort.

if genshin impact can do it... pokemon can.
but yeah i do get your point, people often wish for the good old days of the linear pokemon games back and i dont blame them either. I just hope that we can distinguish "open world" and "linear" properly instead of having this weird mesh of the two. both can co-exist in harmony

@@blubberblubbb Isn't Genshin an action rpg though? Pokemon being turned based is a big reason why I think it doesn't work as well in an open world.
That and how vast and flexible team composition is. I imagine they would want to prevent players from softlocking themselves by releasing everything except their lv 5 Ratatta, while the world is scaled to lv 50. At least in Genshin (as far as I can tell) you HAVE to have the main character at all times.

    >Surely the guy will praise the best Open World Games of all times like Elden Ring that actually rewards exploration and gives me-
    >dropped after 26 hours because "why would I explore when I already got the best weapon"
    >Video ends up being a disguised Genshin Impact Rant
    >Well, Genshin kinda sucks in a lot of ways, but it does have pretty great open world, surely-
    >Generic "first ever gacha game" complains about bad story, simple puzzles, combat and monitization.
I'll write this with an assumption that you actually want some feedback on the videos that isn't just positivity, but I think this yapping session sort of has an issue of... well, clickbaiting really, you said it yourself. You just present a tier list (which I personally find a bit shit but that's a matter of taste), but the video is instead trying to pretend like it's analyzing why those games fail at Open World when all of them are actually good games with well made open world and it's practically impossible to understand at which conditions they become good or bad.
I have no idea what makes Legends of Zelda BOTW good and S+ Tier, instead I know why other games you actually like are bad and fail at open world when they actually don't? It's UA-cam average "I can only be a good video creator if I complain about videogames even if they are good" tier of commentary.
In general this video feels like "Those games are not for me, so I am going to claim they failed at a highly specific element and present it as a way to criticize a genre" while providing surfaced based arguments that ultimately have no purpose. The only assumption I can make from this is that Open World Game you actually like should be basically a map with no restrictions that lets you do what you want at any moment, but what you want should not affect the game balance?
Like, Pokemon bad because they don't let you go into Endgame Area to catch some endgame Pokemon and they game is basically linear massive zones, but Skyrim, which has none of those restrictions is bad because you can get Dawnbreaker at Level 1 and break the balance in half and make every other exploration worthless? What do you want then? It feels like you just don't enjoy those games for what they are and instead want them to let you do X or Y with zero consideration for game design, that's the real reason it feels like a slop content.
Anyway if you are bothered with reading all of this, congrats, you wasted your time on someone else's yapping session dumbass.

thanks for the genuine feedback. ill make some comments on what you said.
      a) the tierlist bit at the end was ironic. i made that tierlist after i finished the video realising that i could key that in as a sarcastic remark that it was one, it wasnt. I present it as an unfiltered yap but no i still wrote a script for all of this.
      b) i tried to make it explicitly clear that i love all of those games, maybe the tierlist soured that a little at the end with me saying skyrim is like B or C tier or whatever but trust me i adore all of them (except for Genshin). For the most part this is me nitpicking the minor issues I think that the games suffer from that could take them from amazing to perfect. I can understand the "clickbait" perspective but the video is what it says it is an elaboration on where i believe some open world games failed. Doesn't mean the whole game is a shitstorm simply that there are aspects of it that it failed to achieve to entertain me as a player, doesnt make them bad games by any means just minor things i go "i dont like that". its easier to talk about the specific negatives of a game than detail every single positive they have to offer.
      c) i mean yeah in the end this is all a matter of opinion, what i hate about a game another might love but i dont think the skyrim and pokemon examples are comparable and i believe youve misunderstood. I didnt say I wanted to go to an endgame area to get a broken pokemon, i wanted to go there to get my favourite pokemon. Provided there is an implementation of level scaling, there shouldnt be any pokemon obtainable at any point that should be "broken" i just want the world to feel open. Sneasel is by no means a busted pokemon, but if it was your favourite and you wanted to run it in the game all about exploration only to learn its obtainable past gym 6, that feels a little ass.
      d) but i agree with your point about pointing out what makes a good game too. I could have elaborated on aspects of what makes me love BOTW and i will take that into account, i dont make these videos for popularity or any sort of monetary income anyway, i do it because i like entertaining people and thats why im glad youve said all this as ill take it into account for next time. but yeah, i havent uploaded in a year, if this channel were to be successful id have to make it a lot higher quality and a lot faster (something im simply not capable of)
i do agree with you entirely though, i dont think your criticisms are invalid but i definitely feel my video suffers from "cant truly contain everything i want to say in a reasonable time span". I didn't want to drop an hour long video going into elaborate detail on every aspect of all these games as I know my close friends dont have the attention span to watch all of that. i also do not have the tolerance to edit all of that in an interesting way due to my lacking skills and motivation.
my aim wasnt meant for this to watch like slop and come off as clickbaity and im sorry if it did, i do genuinely despise actual tierlist making dogshitters and slop content such as the likes of PyroLIVE so if you see me on the same level as that, I seek to not do that in the future. maybe the ironic conclusion of the tierlist joke at the end wasnt a necessity as its clear it muddied the water of my intentions to an extent and if you would like me to elaborate on what specifically i like about these games too, id be happy to.
(this video is of course mostly my own personal criticism, this is no insult to these games except genshin because i really do dislike that game)
and apologies again if this is an incoherent unreadable mess, i dont particularly feel like proofreading and im about to go to bed

@@blubberblubbb Alright, first off, I do want to actually apologize if my initial criticism came off a bit too hard. Truth is, your video sort of arrived around the same time as I finished a different video about the issue with UA-cam "Critics", which mainly focused on how many of the channels that do so called "critique" making videos on some of their most "favorite games", yet spending over 2-4 hours of their videos on bashing it and spreading negativity, never highlighting what they actually like, yet claiming that if any developer sees their video, it will surely help them because they give "constructive feedback".
I think humans in general focus on negativity too much, especially on UA-cam - and it's quite understandable, after all, it sells much better. Those UA-cam Essayists are guilty of that, your video is kinda guilty of that and, to be honest, I AM guilty of that. I was so focused on the negativity that came from me projecting opinions and intentions that I never really pointed out that in terms of actual production this video is pretty good. While I still think the script could use some work - I absolutely understand what you mean by not wanting to make it into an hour long video. Cause the truth is - the pacing of this video is actually pretty good and I did watch it all the way to the end despite having major disagreements with your points, which I don't think I would have done if you spend too long on elaborating them, where you risk repeating the same things and so on.
I think I was sort of blinded and didn't even realize the message at the end was meant to be ironic. I think it was the major reason why I even wrote the comment - the joke is me, cause I took the contents so seriously that an ironic jab at oneself completely missed me. Again - the editing, the gags and the pacing is actually really good, I just got too much into the topics cause I do really have lots of curiosity for open world games. Hell, while I felt like it was a problem at first, looking at it now, I have to at least commend you for not making it your typical "Hey guys... Aren't UBISLOP GAMES TERRIBLE?" where you point out things said by thousands of people before. You actually tried talking about your experience with good games while pointing out while some of their aspects you didn't really care about.
For example, I never played Pokemon. I never really cared for those creatures. So to me, going to some locked area just to catch one doesn't even connect with "I want this pokemon because i like it a lot", I don't realize just how DIFFERENT and FUN a Pokemon Game with no restrictions, which allows you to be lost and suddenly become best friends with a creature that you then decide to beat the game with can be. I looked at it purely from the balance perspective, similar how to some Elden Ring weapons are locked behinds some REALLY tricky locations and areas that you cannot easily get in. Meanwhile, I don't... even care about winning in Skyrim. I don't do Meridia's Quest until I get her beacon, which requires at least level 12 to spawn and even then it's random. Just the core gameplay loop of going around dungeons and caves, using whatever you have to clear them and looking at the environment is already enough of a reason to play Skyrim for me.
Also, I can't believe I am saying this but... I am going to defend Genshin Impact for a second here.
Okay, look, I quit it myself and inside my head there is a draft of a probably 4 hour video talking about everything wrong about that game, but the reason why I want to defend it here is because most of the complains have NOTHING to do with it's open world and are mainly problems with it's core design and the actual genre of that game. Meanwhile the open world is... Actually pretty fucking good honestly. You yourself called it beautiful. Is it filled with baby puzzles? Yeah... Is there perhaps to much of them? Yeah... Do they exist to make you gamble more? Ehh... Depends, honestly. If you look at them as actual challenges, they suck balls, but reality is that just walking across this world and slowly collecting everything is quite satisfying by itself for many people. It's like a platformed game where you still try to collect all coins even if you don't need them anymore because it feels nice.
I think there is a LOT of merit of trying to actually study the world of Genshin. Many of my friends HATED Inazuma region when they played and there is a good reason for that. Due to being islands, it's much more vertical than horizontal, meaning that even if they have the same amount of puzzles - they are much more densely packed, creating this feeling of HAVING to do them, because they give out gacha currency. Then Sumeru tried to fix it by making the region much more horizontal, but that resulted in a lot of walking. Not to mention, they started to HEAVILY experiment with underground areas, some of which are amazing and some of which feels like mazes designed by sadists. Chasm is still probably one of the best underground location in gaming - the way it goes down and down, getting more and more fucked up, and yet still having room for FromSoft level short cuts it doesn't even need cause Fast Travel exists is pretty great. Meanwhile complains about the story, combat, monetization system don't really belong in a video dedicated to open world.
I think the key takeaway is that hatred or negativity isn't always a useful tool. While it can be utilized for some great content, it can also cloud someone's point, opinion and make other's perception much worse, which makes them negative as the result. So I guess in the end THIS is the real yapping comment.

Great video! I don’t/rarely play any of the games you mentioned, so I can’t comment much on the topic, but it’s got very solid editing and structure.
Can’t imagine how long it took to make! My video did well, even though I kept re-writing the scripts, and eventually just scrapped them because I didn’t know how to explain myself properly, without it sounding unnatural.

in my opinion it left a few of the sections kind of lacking because they didn't have my true in depth thoughts but its alright in the end
