    The whole diaphragmatic support thing not only improved my belt instantly but i've been struggling with vibrato and it helped so much

    0:55 2 parts to croaking & cracking
    1. physiological building up strength
    2. Next is psychological
    How to think about high notes so not afraid of it and the audience
    (He mostly gives the outline of things he does in his course so the regiment isn’t actually in this video, just the general ideas)
    1:45 need to know how to control diaphragm first
    So you’re not straining the chest neck and vocal cords
    So you’re not panicking by the time you get to the high note
    2:15 you want to be able to feel freedom in throat
    And strength in the abdomen when singing
    2:30 the back of the throat should stay completely open
    Achieved with open throat technique
    To create max amt of space in throat to relive any tension that could take place there at all
    And from there just feel the strength from diaphragm
    It’s the “engine” that drives your car
    ========
    3:46 the psychology aspect of it now
    4:00 vowel modifications will help the throat feel the path of least resistance
    You want to try to keep the vowel closely related “in the way they feel”
    instead of having big changes in the throat

    Dude, your always smiling! Puts me a better mood just watching...my grandma always taught us, smile, even if you don't at first feel like it, the people who (this was her advise for phone conversations) cant see you will still see your smile...thank's man, positive attitude sure plays a key role! And the lesson here is spot on for what i needed today! Right on bro!

      Hi Ken. When I sing higher notes I get a rasp over top even when trying to sound clean. It doesn't happen on low notes though. Why would this be happening?

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  8 років тому +4

      +Saskaruto16 - This is often a case of needing to close down the vowel with a modification to the shape of the vocal tract. I teach about this in my course. The vowels tend to splat without the modifications.

Funny thing is I sound way better than them. 😅 I still keep singing but there are songs that I just can't keep up or hit most of the notes. What I'm saying is ignore her and keep practicing like I am. I honestly sounded better when I was younger because I practiced add played around with my voice to every song. I stopped for so many years and now my voice is horrible but I can still hit some notes. I believe in all of us. 😊

    This is great for me
    I a drummer and I assumed I can’t sing because I’ve never been able to make my voice sound good
    These videos made me realize I can’t sound good because I don’t know any singing techniques.
    These videos are allowing me to learn to sing so I can do backup vocals while drumming.
    I’ve only been doing this for 2 days and my voice moved from sounding annoying to sounding ..okay
    So I think I can train myself to sing using these

    I have great vibrato but I find it can be a hindrance when increasing strength and range.. I've started to sing without it, singing the notes and words only - without emphasis, vibrato, etc. I figured it was the only way to increase strength. I remember doing something similar when I was young as I was trained in two school choirs growing up.

    Sensational Ken :) . I'm Brazilian and I'm dying for a proper singing style. In my country there are many musica styles and I'm fond of singing them. However, I also like singing folk, rock and reggae music.

    I love your videos, you talking about using the diaphragm made me go back to my roots in choir in high school. I forget to use it sometimes. I really want to get better and you help a lot. If you have time, could look at my original video of "I still love you" and any tips you'd have would be very appreciated!

    Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy I love all the videos,and your students are tremendously talented !! I started watching,paying close attention,also important exercise diaphragm.The people around me noticed when I sing at work for example(construction) until I got my cojones and got up on stage.Sang rock to salsa old school boleros 50's -60's people loved it.I would like to get more information on your course, I'm not dreaming of any gramy's..lol...but to sing at gigs make a few bucks,and enjoy music.I recently got sick and my voice went hoarse is there any thing I can do so not to screw my voice for good ??

      @kentamplin  6 років тому +1

      When you are hoarse, you need to take vocal rest. Normally you should sing through illnesses, unless they are respiratory infections, laryngitis or hoarseness. When you need to rest your voice, you just have to rest it.

    02:58 When I get to this point there's a 50% chance that I'll be afflicted by an unwanted yodel which slides right out of tune, as though I was going through a second puberty. It's a problem which has developed over the last four years.
