When I started taking voice lessons, I couldn't sing at all. In my experience as a voice student, the basic key to it, is learn proper technique. My two absolute top favorite vocal sites are Ken's and New York Vocal Academy and I watch both, religiously. Between these two, you can get your toes wet, so to speak. Once basic technique is mastered, you're real singing voice will begin to appear. You'll be surprised how good you can sound, once you've done that. Forgive me for offering advice, but here it is. Here's a thought. Ken teaches via Skype, I believe. Perhaps you could take one lesson, work on what he'll teach you for a month or more, then have another lesson. Over a year, maybe six or eight lessons, which may not sound like that many, but just doing that would get you great results, Imho, if you follow his instructions meticulously and practice. Here's a thought my teacher told me, early on, "Inhale on a yawn, exhale (sing) on a sigh. Everything relaxed and breathing from the diaphragm. Maybe there's a better way to approach that, but in my studies, it's worked for me. Anyway, singing is a great joy and is our birthright as a species. I don't know if it's true, but I've read that the part of the brain that process's music, evolved first, before we had symbolic thinking and language. Those parts of the brain, reportedly, developed after. Wouldn't surprise me, if true, since music affects us on the deepest level. Anyway, anyone please feel free to correct me, if any of my little pointers and observations are off base. Technique and practice, practice, practice. Aloha!

This is where I am currently on my singing. Working on tapping into the head voice without the speed bump. I'm also working on discovering what type of music my tone is built for. Singing alternative 90's type rock kareoke helps. I can do green day and RHCP well
I don’t sing but I really would love a strong and widened vocal range. My limit right now is around a G4 (Light voice and “oo” vowels chest) I can hit an A4 and a B 4 if I belt hard enough and it’s a good day but that’s straining.... I also have difficulty with pronunciation and clear tone. Any tight movement of the mouth and/or vowels are hard for me to even hold an F 4/G 4 in simple patterns. I’ll try and do this whenever I can. Hopefully I can sing along to Queen in a month or so.
I haven’t even been able to speak for the last couple of days, but when I’m not sick, the reenforced falsetto has always been my favorite. I have always enjoyed singing Judas Priest type of music. I have been abusing my new Audient id24 and SM7b recently, but I just got my Neumann this week so I have something new and exciting to try out. Next up is a nicely colored preamp and a Lin2A, and Lin67 compressors to help round that tone. 🙂👍🏻

So much depends on learning to relax when you are feeling tense. There are a number of things you can do to mitigate that tension, but you have to deal with it in a positive way.
No chance that Freddie Mercury was a baritone, just type in You Tube Queen live at Wembley arena 1980 and you'll hear belting of high notes and a thin high voice that can only be described as a lyric tenor.

Thank you! Very helpful!! I'm able to transition from chest to falsetto, but when warming up, there's one "rough" spot when I'm in falsetto. Once I get past that one note, I'm fine. Puzzles me🤫
Ken you beautiful creature! We had to fire our old singer and we haven't been able to lock down a new one so I decided to just learn myself and using your videos I literally added over an entire octave to my chest voice vocal range IN 3 DAYS. I just hummed the slides to myself at work and then today I kept hitting notes as I went up the keyboard. I cant thank you enough!
I can do decently well from F2 to E4. But the E4 is my hard limit it seemsXD I could go a lot higher as a teen cause we had a school band which i sang the power vocals for. Back then i think my range was around A2 to A4. I am currently 33 btw. Ty for this great video! Gonna try the tips for a few months and see how my control and range develops.
My choir teacher made me do this pre-singing training scales...So this would be great for me to try because I use to begin warming my voice..just by singing from easy to Evanescence songs, to get to the passagio..but.not a bad idea to go back and tale this again as a tool too!
Thanks to you, Ken!! Yes, this reminded me a bit of detalis I had kinda forgotten , on warming up the voice..but , at the same time, it reenforces my idea that, using a song which has al this passages and difficulties -slide, the passagio..chest voice and head one, I kinda warm up and those are the goals.. Not to get my friends bored jajaj By the way I wish some day I could take some lessons or even more, fly to Hawaii but....I live in Argentina, you know, the dollar and economy here are caoss...So we don´t even know if we will be able to eat tomorrow, at the end of the month, most mid class people.. But, even through hard times, Music has helped and helps a lot..Music is my LIfe! And I´m always try to be contagious about! Thanks a lot Ken!

Thankyou so much Ken you have helped me alot as I try to sing well and increase my range. You're doing some great work and I have noticed you read and acknowledge comments which fills me with alot of confidence in you. Keep it up. You're doing a fantastic job. I've only just discovered your great tuition and I'm delighted.
Wonderful!
I’ve never laughed and learned so much at one go. Awesome voice. Fantastic Face!
Glad you liked it, seb!
Fan de Ken temple I from Brasil ES - Espírito Santo- Vitória. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I’ve been doing voice classes for about a month now and I realize I can’t sing a lot of the songs I want too because my voice range isn’t that high but if this course can help I’m all in
I always liked AC/DC even more with Brian Johnson. Back In Black was such a killer album. Coach nailed it too! Very cool.
Thanks, Chad!
Sir you are the most authentic and passionate vocal coach or teacher I discovered here in youtube and I am more motivated than before and I'll follow your tips Sir
New fan here :)
Thank you so much, Maria!
Thank you Sir!
Great stuff, Ken!
The proof is in the singing!!!!!!
I agree, Uzzi!
Good teaching in singing how to train to reach high songs
Thanks so much for doing this!

After I get a good start on your material, I'll buy your course.
I'll be here when you're ready!
that is the exact reason i quit choir class back in highschoole. the vocal drills made everyone look goofy as fuck, and i was to self conciouse.the teacher was a trained opera singer and really REALLY new her buisness. man did i fuck up.

What an incredible display of vocal ability Ken - love it! Thanks for making your videos :)
Glad you like them!
thank you for the good lesson voice..i am portugese from Portugal..
Thank you for all your help ! Hopefully after time I will actually be able to sing! :-)
That will be actually awesome, Lori! Looking forward to hear of your progress!
Thank you! Very helpful!! I'm able to transition from chest to falsetto, but when warming up, there's one "rough" spot when I'm in falsetto. Once I get past that one note, I'm fine. Puzzles me🤫
So helpful thanks again Ken u the man
What a great teacher and explains well
The Passaggio was Buckley's weapon when he was singing! great lesson Ken!
Buckley put passion into the passaggio!
Very true! Made his voice so unique
Wow, I was able to reduce that "speed bump between my chest voice and falsetto by just "Singing Along With Ken." )))
Fantastic!!!
I'll add this in my morning ritual.
Awesome!
Proof in the singing as well as the demonstration! 🙂
😊👍
This guys belt range is insane
Thanks, Harlem Todd!
No problem keep up the good work
Best teacher I've ever met!
😊
My choir teacher made me do this pre-singing training scales...So this would be great for me to try because I use to begin warming my voice..just by singing from easy to Evanescence songs, to get to the passagio..but.not a bad idea to go back and tale this again as a tool too!
Really great tips Ken , thanks a lot!
Glad the tips help, flavy1000!
Not to get my friends bored jajaj
By the way I wish some day I could take some lessons or even more, fly to Hawaii but....I live in Argentina, you know, the dollar and economy here are caoss...So we don´t even know if we will be able to eat tomorrow, at the end of the month, most mid class people..
But, even through hard times, Music has helped and helps a lot..Music is my LIfe!
And I´m always try to be contagious about!
Thanks a lot Ken!
Ken knows what is talking about when it comes to singing for Real
You are the best teacher!
Thanks, Carval!
I can't wait to have the enough money to get me your course... Is not only that you are good at what you do... Is that you are in the correct posture about how it should be tought to any person, and that's the whole mission of your work, which is remarkable...
Keep being humble enough to pinpoint the weakness of common teaching, and keep us amazed with your love to singing and singers... Thank you...
Thank you for the kind comments, SpeechAN!
Thank you for the lessons.... I practice with you.... I've gotten a lot better.... Thanks...😎
You are welcome, Steve, and thank you for being so kind as to come back and let me know that my UA-cam lessons have helped you. You didn't have to do that, but you made the effort, and I thank you for that. I need to know that these lessons are helpful, to encourage me to keep making them, if that's what people want. 😊
@@kentamplin your lessons have helped me so much... I used to get "don't quit your day job"....now it's "wow... Not bad at all".... Thanks to your lessons Mr. Tamplin... I just wish more people would learn.. They would get a lot out of your lessons like I did... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!👍😎
Ken, i wanna take my time and said thank you for this content..your method are so effective..i have seen a serious tremendous growth on my voice..when i first start on july 2020, i could barely hit D4 with chest voice properly..and now january 2021,i have A4 as my top note of my chest register..hopefully i will be able to extend it to high tenor C soon
Great to hear!
