    My vocal coach that gives me lessons at my college, who is classically trained and has been singing for decades, says he has a tremendous amount of respect for your methods and results. If you get his approval, then you should get anyone's approval.

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  8 років тому +30

      +Indy The Great - My training has roots in classical training, as well as being adapted to be more applicable to the demands of modern Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, and R and B singing. Your coach most likely recognizes the classical aspects of my training and my methods.

    • @IndyTheGreat
      @IndyTheGreat 8 років тому +15

      He does, and he says that a lot of people take lessons from coaches that purely teach classical techniques then try to sing more pop or rock type music and damage their voices.

      +Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Hey since I started singing while plugging or squeezing my nose, my voice is really weakish sometimes and the singing feels so weird now.
      Am I not supposed to keep it plugged every time I sing?

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  8 років тому +11

      +Nathan H The only reason for plugging the note ( a few times, not with regularity) is to feel and understand air traveling through the velo nasal port and how to mitigate and manage that air.
      There is nothing about plugging your nose that would make anyone "weaker" unless you are singing too hard because you are hearing the "volume" or resonance from the nasal port.

    Started playing guitar and singing and I was 14. Used to go to my dads seasonal campsite. Every Saturday night they had a talent show I remember very clearly my dad saying to me you’re not pronunciating and you’re singing through your nose. My dad did opera in several off Broadway performances in his youth. He was phenomenal. My dad emigrated from Belgium after World War II and he never lost his French accent. If you’ve ever heard Maurice Chevalier, that was my dad only my dad was so much better. I wish I could’ve grown up with him, I would’ve learned a lot. Voice is like guitar… There is always so much more to learn. Thank you for your help

    I'm what I and most would consider a falsetto/nasal singer. But throughout the years I've learned that sometimes shouting and working with a strong solid delivery has helped me. My loud boisterous voice can be messy, just as a stronger voice can come down into falsetto as weak and off key for some. But your voice mature's overtime, and your life and experiences help mold what your voice capabilities are. I know it sound funny, but a good struggle in your life will give you that wail and growl you're looking for. Same as sadness can bring your tone to subtle and sympathetic. Work with what you vocally can't do until you can. SINGERS...that is.

    you really helped me. i didn’t even know this nasal thing exist. i finally got a microphone set because we want to record a song for our acoustic band. everytime i record my vocal the outcome was always “boxy”, turned out it was my own voice. no one has ever taught me about vocal lessons, everything i do is from the internet. thanks for this. i hope i can be a good artist in the future.

      Some people have made their whole careers out of a nasal tone... Take Amy Winehouse for example. It's true you can control nasality. 100 percent nasality costs resonance and richness in vocal tone. Really one dimensional. However, A bit of nasality coupled with the "ng" placement of the tongue really improves low notes

      @winterfoxx6363 5 років тому

      Could you please make a video on the difference between nasality and singing in your mask? It almost seems like that’s the same thing, and yet we hear often “singing into your mask is good, but your soft palate should be up” How is this possible??

    Interesting! I asked you that question as a comment on a previous video of yours, and here is the answer. You cover so many great topics. So, when your favorite genre is country ballads, is singing nasally a bad thing, or does it depend on the song and the singer? Should I try to reduce or eliminate it, or should I try to sing the song by eliminating the nasal sound as you suggest, and then decide for myself what I prefer?

    The nasal sounds really funny!! 😂😂 but that’s cool you explain that. I took voice lessons but the teacher wasn’t very good.

    Hi Ken. Just found your youtube channel by chance (watching a drum cover of Muse resistance on it)..I am vocally challenged and I cannot sing in tune. I have been part of a Gregorian choir in my childhood but as soon as I opened my mouth they asked me to play back (mimic). Maybe you should provide tips/training for those like me who just want to sing in tune (not professionally), do some karaoke without ruining the exercise and so on (even singing under the shower without alarming the whole house). Anyway will keep following you and listening and practicing your exercices maybe over time it will improve my voice.. Keep up the good job!

    Hai thanks for sharing these tips. I love to sing especially christian songs( at My house - Only,) but i used to sing through nose.... i feel so ashamed to sing after daily prayer... but still i used to sing daily. One of my dream is to sing little bit better.. I prayed a lot to God to make my voice good while singing..... I will try...Wish me luck....
