- FINDING YOUR VOICE - THE REAL SECRET - Ken Tamplin - Gabriela Gunčíková
Hello, everyone! In case you didn’t know, UA-cam “Comments” are only working on 3 of my videos for close to a month now. This one doesn’t work, nor do over 400 of my other videos. I don’t want you to feel you are being ignored. You’re not. I want to hear from you. Please go to this video that IS working, and make comments about any of my videos: • The Pretender - Foo Fi... and share your comments and thoughts so that I can respond to you. UA-cam is still working on getting my video Comments to work, and I am working with them daily to get this resolved. I want to hear from you, and I’ll do my best to answer your questions there, even if it’s a comment on the video you are watching here... I’ll answer you there. So please click on the link here and make your comments in The Pretender’s Comments section. Tell me what video you were watching and what you liked. I still want to be in communication with you. Let’s ROCK these comments! I’ve missed hearing from you!
Often times people say "I want to sound like me and not anyone else."
I agree: No one should "clone" anyone.
But we all have influences, and it is the sum of those influences, and how we "re-present" them with our own style that makes us great.
When I learned to play guitar, I learned from a smorgasbord of great players from Jeff Beck, A Dimeola, Jimmy Page, Michael Schenker and many others. I then incorporated what I learned from them into my own style.
In addition, If we pick a difficult cover song where the bar is set high, this is an excellent grading scale to see how well our singing technique is working for us.
This is also true for learning in different styles as this increases our singing vocabulary and tool box for diverse singing.
In all of my "How To Sing Like" videos, I still sound like Ken Tamplin, but I have a flavor of the original artist demonstrating their "style" safely when often the original artist lost their voice due to bad technique.
In this video I show you how YOU can Find YOUR Voice.

You rock! I had done singing singing success for 1.5 years, and after a month with only the warmup that you put out a while ago I've already become a better singer than I had in the previous year
hmmm. One Free video giving better results in a month than $200 CD's after more than a year? How can that be? ;-)
That singing success guy does not exactly sound like a singer in my personal opinion! Glad you found Ken, at the end of the day, the proof is really in the singing.
I have same story with myself. About 3-4 years with singing success. I lost faith in myself during this time.
But Ken Tamplin let me rebuild voice and now I am o the right track.
Thank you so much!
4:48 Whats this song??
Cobain_Laura :P- Low Rider- War
*after extremely high note*
ken: ok cool
i have immense respect for you sir 😄
Hahahahaha yea I know right 😂
I sing like I'm in pain when really it's every one around me that's in pain.
I seem to have the exact same problem! 😂😂😂we should start a support group 🤔
Lol..I sound like a frog is my joke
Check out Ken's diaphragmatic support that may help :)
It’s almost one year and I still sound like a cat ran over by a bus... I say let’s start this support group 🤦♀️
@@izzie2438 I'm in! A year later and I don't seem to be able to sing like a superstar yet. Support group here we come...😅
It's funny, I was told when I was younger that I had a great voice, but I always said, "No, I'm just good at mimicking good singers." Turns out I was just turning myself into a good singer by learning how others sing. Great concept, and now that you made me realize that's what I'm doing, I know it'll be all the more effective.
Rock on!
Omg goosebumps Gabriela's interpretation of Welcome to the Jungle !
Gabriela is such a ROCKER!
She sounds amazing
I like that version too. Her growls feels like i'm in the jungle too!
She s got an awesome instructor 👍
One of the best jazz improvisation teachers I ever had once told me "You must first learn to sing like the other birds in the valley before you eventually find your own song."
Wise words, Bob!
when you said "food chain of influences" i became a believer. i am a guitarist who needs to sing and you are providing exactly what i need to hear, thank you for these tidbits.
Gabriela is _outstanding_ . Hope she finds the right band. That's immeasurably important.
She is awesome, Donald! 😊
It's a strange brew of influences that makes a person unique.
Like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get... :-)
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy ken, who do you think are the artist on the box of lzzy Hale, btw what do you think about her
I've actually took celebrity singers voice, and tried to see if I could hear the voice I wanted. But, sometimes, it wasn't a pleasant site. I can't really do a high pitched sound that well, to be honest, it's not good at all. Sometimes when I try to match the voice, it can be either good, or bad. Sometimes I can find that right one, but then it can go up or down with a certain note.
Hey, Ken! I totally agree with everything you said. I'm a classically trained singer (opera, arie antiche, german Lieder), but I also started to sing in many other music styles some years ago, even when my singing teachers at the music conservatory where against it. Somehow in that way, I found my own voice 😊
Katherine Wranovich ❤️💓💖💕💗💓
💕
i had goosebumps when gabriela was singing. the passion and the accuracy - wow, just great!
Gabriela has an incredible voice!
The Jeet Kune Do of singing. Experience, learn, incorporate, accumulate, discard, personalize, innovate, grow. Good points, Ken.
jt022 👍👍👍
I must tell you guys that I have Ken Tamplin as one strong influence since I learned so much from his tips.
Thank you, Valmick! If you think the tips are good, you should see what's in my complete course! Years and Years worth of top information! :-)
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
How can I reach u Ken Tamplin? I need a vocal training thanks.
Rita May - ktvainfo@gmail.com
You are impossible Ken, crazy unbelievable, the superhero of Music... I admire you man 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
For someone who never had a single lesson, these videos have now helped me discover my voice!
Really happy to hear that, Jonathan!
Gabriela's voice and attitude when she sings rock is a-friggin-mazing! Love it .. great video!
:-)
When I was in 7th grade I bought an 8 cassette and booklets that was called Heavy Metal Vocal Series. It covered everything from breath control to tonal placement and vowel pronunciation. The guy that made it was anonymous.
That was back in 84' I believe.
So far you seem to be showing pretty much what this series did but you take it further and I love it. You're awesome man.
😊
Plot twist.....it was Ken....he was the anonymous guy who put that series out in 84😂😂😂
When that last example played, my jaw dropped. Instant sub
Thanks for subbing Achermus!
You were - thunderstruck? Haha
Aww Shiiiit Maaan! LOL!! Damn Ken! Nice renditions w/a touch of them but still all Ken! And that last note?
HOLY CANNOLI ... ROCK-N-ROLLY!!! Not only was that Super High & Clean, but so was your low end! Helluva Range!
I'm blown away today brutha!!
Damn!! Her interpretation of welcome to the jungle is insanely good!!
Gabriela is totally amazing, Max, insanely so!
I die and go to heaven every time I hear Gabriela sing
Gabriela can capture you with her voice!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy ken, did Gabriela always have a powerful voice like this? I have an average singing voice but it's always been a dream to be able to belt out like that.
Coincidentally I was singing in the style of someone last night, learning their vocal techniques, and I stumbled upon this video today. I'm on the right path, it seems. Thank you, Ken.
Rock on!
So true. I feel the influence of several singers since I was little. Music from the 80s and 90s.
I remember the first time i sang in public was at high school, After in church and sometimes only for fun with friends in a pub.
Thank you once more for your words.
😊
You're welcome Julia!
Best Coach! Thanks Ken.
I've been singing since I was 9 and I was always told how to sing like someone else wanted me to, I'm trying to learn how to sing the way I want to and your videos are really helping
Gabriela is a phenomenal singer!
Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
Ken is, by far, the most enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgeable and such a fantastic vocal coach and person.
You're too kind!
Most of my influences are male singers. Male voices helped me find my very own full, dark and even aggressive voice, although I am a soprano. Thank you Ken, for pointing out that influences make you more versatile. I tend to think that I should stick to one thing only, when I really don't have to.
VoiceOfPassion- Awesome!
What beautiful voices! What inspirational words! Wow! Incredible!
It’s Aarna- Thank you!!
I was thinking "Damn!" when you ended those songs with that high note lol Thank you so much for time you put into your videos Ken!!
You're welcome, Wyatt!
OMG that high note @ 5:27! Incredible.
Yes, that's a high one! Thanks for the kind words, JMisses!
6:47 goosebumps wow what a great voice that girl has
Gabriela is an amazing singer! 😊😊😊
Totally agree with this. Another thing that usually happens to more seasoned artists/bands is that, when they get to a certain level, they start doing their own thing and forget their influences, or at least think that their good enough without them. It doesn't take too long until they start hiting walls creativelly. In my humble opinion, the secret to be successful in music business is to keep listening to new stuff, be inspired by it, and use it as part of your arsenal when you are composing. It doesn't matter how big you are, be humble enough to learn from less known artists.
André Silva TRUE
I just want to sing for my grandkids
wow so interesting. i always thought about how certain artists hit the wall after a few albums and how some artists still have that "thing" that makes you say man they just keep going. good info. i'll keep that in mind
Damn, the two demos (you and Gabriela) both kicked ass!
That's the whole idea! At least on those particular songs... :-)
I've learned more in a day from this channel than all the other vocal lessons in months!
Rock on! 👍
Your thoughtfulness seems so sincere and backed with knowledge ... Ken tamplin is born to teach vocals I think.
Thanks, Robert!
If I had you as a teacher back in high school, I would have definitely learned alot more. I'm so glad you said this about taken influence from other singers. I like Johnny Cash Hurt, Simone & Garfunkel sound of silence & many more. I'm gonna try a Bob Dylan Song, Blowing in the wind. I am able to sing songs that I thought impossible to me, like the Hallijua song. You made me feel some what confident. Still won't share my songs with anyone, other than my kids, when I sing them to sleep. Thanks again 👍
Keep up the great work!
This is some of the best musical advice I've ever heard; this actually translates to pretty much anything else in life too. 100%, this has been my experience as a guitarist. Learning the styles of my various favorite guitarists across many different genres has landed me in my own sound. Someday I hope I can do the same with my voice!
Jared Emmanuel - Thanks for the kind words!
The best vocal coach I've seen so far...
Authenticity is so natural, just let it go the way it wants to go. Effortlessly. Ken has confidence of competence. Kudos. And remember, what other people think of you is none of your biznatch!
Thank you!
What an amazing person and spokes person you are!! Love your videos :))
Thanks, Minniva!
Hi Marit !!!
Omg you’re really amazing!!!!! I’ve been watching you for so long and you’re content is SO LEGITIMATE!! You, Ken and Yours student Gabriela nailed it. The versatility was mind boggling. Soon I will be purchasing your course, you’re right one with how you go into depth with things and I genuinely cannot wait to get started 😩
Thanks so much for the compliment, OfficialLevitae!
Hello Ken, you're such a phenomenally excellent teacher !! Wooow !! Regards from Croatia, Europe
I have discover your channel few days ago and i really like the tips you give! It make me see another way to singing. I guess now i'll start back from the beginning. Thanks for the tips and the great work here you are really great singer!
This is such a personal topic because I like to sing and I'm always torn between singing with my own voice and using the artists voice and I tend to lean towards the artists but once in a new moon I'll use my voice. I'm becoming more comfortable with my own now, but I think for me I just have to be careful not to be a big head if I can sing well.
😄
Wow! Loved it. You have a wonderful voice and are truly a wonderful teacher. Thank you for sharing all your tips :)
Thank you for your kind comment, Minila!
Thanks God for you my friend, you have illuminated me!.
I’m like, great songs and great performances, From Ken And Gabriella 👍
Thank you, Perle!
Gabrielaaaaa! go princes go! Ken you are awesome guy ❤
Yay! It's always so good to hear from you, Evelyn!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy thank youuuu Ken ❤
:-)
Amazing skills and a great video. Thanks!
Thanks, Adestrador!
And I definitely agree Mr Tamplin your awesome thank you so much again your lessons has really helped me a lot
This is straight up life advice, you could apply this lesson to most creative things in life.
True, Michael. If you want to be "more like" someone you look up to, you start noticing what they do that you want to emulate. It will still come out like you, because you are the sum of many other influences, as well... plus your own personal spin or interpretation will naturally happen.
I'm a metal singer influenced by Tiny Tim. I've been told my sound is that of someone whos been hit in the nuts by a baseball bat.
You should be a comedian.
That was a seriously called for comment , man out of the word work there always a comedian , and you still got a reply from ken , should speak volumes of kens intent in his teachings . Thanks ken ,
I would love have conditions to have classes with you Ken. amazing. 👏👏👏
Ricardo Costa He does Skype!
Oh my, you are amazing....cannot stop watching Your videos
Found your videos recently and I'm watching all of it. I really enjoy it, thank you
WOW! Just WOW!!!
Thanks, Cheryl!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy you're welcome 😊
Sometimes I will listen to a song 10 to 20 times before I try it. I do weekend warrior x2 and warm up x2. Then ready to rock.
Wow! Gabriela was awesome when she sang Into The Jungle!
Oh my gosh. I just fell in love with your voice.
I have always been crazy about singing. I literally sing constantly. I’ve loved everything from 50’s music to now and most genres. It took me a long time to get my confidence back after being made fun of by my family for my ugly faces when I sang. I finally realized that there are many artists that make ugly faces when they are singing. It would be awesome if you could make a video about things like this so maybe another kid or adult doesn’t waste as many years as I did hiding my singing because of idiots in their lives.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I’ve hid my singing for years because of an unkind criticism when I was a teenager trying to learn to sing. I just bought Ken’s course and I’m hoping to improve and be able to no longer hide due to embarrassment.
My whole family will be gone tomorrow time to crack my vocal chords 😂
Good for you!
wow..thankyou so much for such valuable insight. I always thought I had to stick to one style of singing and yet I wasn't really comfortable with it but the way you explained it makes soo much sense.
Hey Ken, I am inspired by you. I have a singer hidden inside me, kept locked away from judgement and rejection all these years (53). Inspiration for + motivation, along with this gut feeling is a recipe for something special. We all have gifts to give to the world in some form. I will not spend any more time saying what if. I am so glad I found you. A new journey has begun. My influences: Chris Cornell, Sully, Mr Sinatra, Geoff Tate, Pepper Keenan. Thanks Ken
That is awesome!
I thought this will be just like any other video lesson. But you presented your lesson brilliantly, amazing. Subscribed!
Cool. Thank you for subscribing, Hale!
My pleasure and thank you so much for your videos~
Such useful pieces of advice!!! You're the best!!! :)
Thank you for your kind comments, Maria!
I'm so glad I've found you before I started recording.
I've focusing more on my vocals the past 2 years and the tips I've learned from you have opened a whole new world to me.
You've gained a new subscriber.
I'm so glad you're here, Jesse!! Glad you decided to subscribe!
Wow. He looks like a time traveler from the 70s but his voice...wow. Hats off to this guy. He's obviously a talented teacher to boot.
lhj276- Thanks?
Wow on Gabriela! Great job with Guns and Roses! She rocks!
Yes, she does, Emily! Thanks for your comment!

Gabby singing grace is bad to the bone! Not many can touch Jeff but she can.
I love to watch you sing because you are in such a state of total focus and passion. What a voice! Love your videos. Even I, at 73, sing better with your guidance. Thank you.💜
That is great to hear Joan!
Great teacher of you, Ken! and a really amazing woman of Gabriela
Brader Luwi 😊😊😊
Gabriela sings welcome to the jungle like a true warrior!!! Wow!!!
Great insights here Ken :)
Thanks, Michael! Every Artist has influences.
gabriella singing "welcome to the jungle" was so damn sexy. love her power
Gabriela is awesome, MrBearserker!
Exactly what I commented before reading your.. 😀 👍
You are by far one of the best singers I’ve heard besides your ability and technique you look like your always having so much fun and enjoying it
Another great video, Ken. It is sooo true. I started out doing Karaoke to pretty much imitate artists and songs I loved, but over the years, it was those styles and influences that helped me develop my own sound. To some point, I still imitate some of the style, but I always have vocal aspects that are my own. Like you, I have many influences that I drew my passion for singing from, especially in my earlier years such as Brian Adams, Jon Bon Jovi, Alan Frew of Glass Tiger, Steven Tyler, Richard Marx, Per Gessle of Roxette, and of course many great contry artists making up my country sound style such as Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown, Vince Gill, Tim Mcgraw, Garth Brooks, George Strait, and many others. In some way, shape, or form, they are all part of me, and manifest themselves in various ways in the style I find myself using naturally now when I sing! However, I don't think many would doubt that I have my own sound, whether they care for it or not :D! Everything you say is true. The concept of finding your own sound is what attracted me to this video. Another great one! Thanks!
Gabriela sounds like the chick from Halestorm! Loving these vids Ken, im going to try to go from meh to wow using them! 🤓
One thing I've discovered, nothing in music is easy! 😢😭
Everything worthwhile takes time and effort, J.
Thankyou so much....this is confirmation and inspiring and is happening to me!!!!Praise God!!
Gabriela is amazing! Ken you're amazing too.
Jesse, you're amazing for saying that. Thank you!
I'm a big fan of your voice and a big fan of your videos. This one was no different.
I wanted to say, though, that in this one when you sing Carry on Wayward Son, to my ear you sound so much like Dennis DeYoung. I've never heard a Dennis DeYoung style voice sing a Kansas song before, and it was amazing. Thanks for that.
Well, I have to admit that Dennis DeYoung is one of my many influences. Who wasn't taken by Styx when they were Kings of the Rock world? And yes, I think Dennis would sound awesome on a Kansas tune!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy can we get a how to sing Styx: Dennis, Tommy and JY styles?
I want to sound like my version of John Michael Talbot! He sings Biblical Psalms and themes that raise my heart to prayer, praise and thankfulness toward God.
finally a vocal coach on youtube that I trust
This is the best vocal lesson I have ever heard. Thank you for this.
You're very welcome!
Love this video, Ken Tamplin. I can relate to emulating so many different styles and artists, both male & female, as I have mastered them (I think, and have been told) relatively well over the years, but struggle a lot more these days as I posted in another video, with my voice and crackly sound. I am annoyed by this, though it is not too obvious to the average patron in a pub/venue.
Thanks for the kind words, Sharon! Many little habits can sneak in on our voice if we aren't using correct techniques at all times.
What you talk about in your video goes beyond singing, it is the essence of peace. When we are able to understand different styles/people's different beliefs, without losing consciousness to see the divine within us all; we are given the gift of each conscious diaphragmatic, deep, slow, still and steady breath. This is the medium to which we can all connect to the Ultimate, here on this Earth as humans...
Dime Bomb- Make a joyful noise!
Dime Bomb Loved what you said! Someone once said in the comment section of a Susan Boyle UA-cam performance that her voice alone could usher in world peace!
If only the warmongering psychopaths in positions of power would listen...
@@izzysykopth a secular "amen" to that, brother...
I am very thankful to Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.
I follow the procedures.
Last thursday I reached the last note of BED OF NAILS in Jon Bon Jovi song Bed of Roses.
It took about a year to reach.
I am practicing since 2019.
Now it's 2020 I will still keep on watching you
Ken Tamplin thank you so much.
That is fantastic! Rock on!!
Ken your truly a genius! I've learned more from you in a day than I have in 5 years! Thank you so much!
Please do a show on how to sing Chris Stapleton " I Was Wrong" thank for your consideration, I am learning to sing and play guitar....wow harder than ever imagine!
Thanks for the suggestion, Mark!
Wow you are one bad dude bro so into what you do i love it
Thanks for your comment, James!
I have been singing in church ever since I was 6yrs , guess what for all these years I was just following the rest. This is what I have yearned for thanks alot .
Sharon Nakyanzi Awesome! Check out my vocal course: kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
Once my wife and me almost gave up on singing... and then we found you ...and our journey began .... Thank you Ken from the ebb of our heart... you are amazing ...
Thanks so much for sharing your story, Nisar! It makes my day when I hear comments like yours! :-) I'm so happy for you and your wife!
Gabriella is simply breathtaking in all respects. If only the "th" dipthong existed in her native language, she'd be incomparable.
lol.. the tongue freaks me out. I love what you do. Subbed and I'm introducing my daughters to you. Thank you for your wisdom.
Thanks, Ticalion!
Oh man, I just discovered your videos recently and I can’t explain how much it helped me, in so many ways. Thank you so much sir!
Happy to help, José!
What a wonderful find you are, sir. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind works, Fake Name! That's not your real name, is it? 😊
