This is my FAVORITE Gilmour performance of all time. I have been watching this very clip for over 20 years. I got the "Les Paul and Friends" VHS tape and watched it until it was just about worn out, then I couldn't find it. Now, here it is. I'm sooooooo happy to have found it again!!!!

@juegas I have been a Pink Floyd fan since 1970. Read up on their history. They all met in art school. Before they were called Pink Floyd they called their band The Screaming Abdabs. They played mostly blues. You can find Pink Floyd blues recordings on youtube -- just search the term "pink floyd blues."

@bphillipps I'll admit that a Strat does have a cleaner sound but IMO that cleaner sound is better for JAZZ while the higher tone of the Les Paul is better for Rock and blues
I own both a Strat and a Les Paul. I usually practice with the Strat because with the cleaner sound, mistakes are more noticeable forcing me to improve my playing. My Les Paul is a Gold Top version just like GIlmour's on the other vid but without the whammy bar. I use that for the higher toned Blues/Rock sound. It rocks :)

I thought the same thing. I saw this concert when it was recorded in 1988. The dude did the same thing while Eddie Van Halen was on stage. Yea....he can play...but why is he taking valuable solo time away from Hall of Famers in a tribute to the Great Les Paul?
    Nonetheless....RIP Les Paul.

This is not what they played at this gig. Not sure what the story is of this boring slow "jam" (and I use that term loosely). Now I know they did recuts and clever editing of the released show, so maybe this was a reshoot. Because at this show he played an instrumental version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, primarily the side 2 parts--and it was awesome. This, on the other hand, blows.

@@davidgilmour3173 strange how the memory works (and fails)...I would have sworn on a slab of bacon it was a variation of Shine On side 2 that was played. And I apologize, this doesn't blow, but I remember it so much differently. I was part of a group there via Stanley Jordan. After the show we asked Stanley who was the best that night. He said everyone had different styles and impossible to compare, but that David Gilmour had the ability to bewitch you...
