Possibly the best live guitar solo ever. No words can describe it. Like angels screaming, just pure emotion. I'm 65 now & love most rock, but always come back to this. It will never fade.

Gilmore never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. As one post here says yea look who he's playing with. I said that smile is him saying"WOW I'm Drumming with DAVID GILMOUR...!!!!! Soon as I seen him. Love this version

Lost my grandfather 2 weeks ago, his favorite band was Pink Floyd. He had the full "The Wall" cd set in his home. I remember asking him, as he lay in his bed, unable to move much or speak much from the cancer that had spread through his body, if he wanted to listen to some Pink Floyd. He just simply smiled at me, eyes still a brilliant blue, and nodded. I am glad I got to enjoy this song with him, before he slipped intro the ever after, 2 days later. It has been stuck in my head since. I miss you Papa.

Besser kann man es einfach nicht "spielen". Das ist Seele pur - das ist einzigartig. Diese Version habe ich bestimmt schon 500 mal genossen. 51 years young, I grew up with this music, especially with this song - with David Gilmours voice and with his unique guitar-skills.
I saw a youtube comment that was so beautiful, it made me teary-eyed. 🥺 "In 1972, as a teenager, I sat in a dark room, smoking a joint, listening to Pink Floyd on my headphones. Here I am, 50 years later, doing the exact same thing. I'm blessed to have lived during the time of Pink Floyd."
Arguably the best live performance by him in recent years. I just turned 73 two weeks ago and I’m still rocking! Won’t stop until they embalm me; and maybe not then.😆
I could watch this every day all day and still die a happy man. After I got sober, 13 years ago, it took me awhile to get back to Pink Floyd. Now I have much better appreciation for their work. Hell, I still listen to Radio K.A.O.S. from Roger Waters.
Eleni Best I'd go as far as stating that 200-300 years from now, music fans & critics alike will look at musicians such as Gilmour with the same reverence we show today when looking at Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, etc.
Couldn't agree more. This solo will forever send chills up my spine, provoke feelings of intense happiness and sadness, and bring tears of joy, respect, and agony all at once. There are only a few people who are capable of executing this type of emotional exploitation with 6 strings.
David Gilmore was 75 years old yesterday March 6, 2021. Which means he was about 70 when this was recorded. We are so lucky to share the earth with this man. And despite everything...thanks to Roger for the words.
Boris Gröber - Schuhmann this is what my dad used to put on when i was a little. i never looked back upon it until now. now my parents tell me to stop blasting pink floyd at 3am
the best solo of all time, soulfully, innovative, technically perfect and advanced for its time, catchy, and absolutely perfectly played as part of a timeless classic song with unreal lyrics.
I suffer from mental illness and a lot of the time it’s hard to know what i actually am feeling. The guitar solo in this song has made me feel more than any lyric, person or activity ever. Although there are no words, the emotions scream loud and clear and I hear everything they have to say. A beautiful thing.
Beautiful words Koben. And I hear YOU loud and clear my friend. XxxX I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes words fail to communicate and music does it way better. I hope you are OK buddy. I had two stints at psychiatric hospitals in my late teens/early 20s and I know how scary mental illness is. I wish you happiness Koben!! XxxxxxX You are a beautiful soul.
Koben my mate , you're not so far away from the rest of us. I think I'm a fairly normal bloke but this track always sort of "resets" my mood and brain. It takes you in and blanks out the world , it's a wonderful rollercoaster.
Drummer was just clearly amazed how this solo feels in live performance and you get to play along with it. What more can you ask for if you re the drummer? Its once in a lifetime you get to play along with this kind of musician.
The solo was amazing 42 years ago and it will be in 42 years from now on. Its never getting old. It will never lost its magic. God touched Gilmour´s hands and he touches our souls in return!
Sweet Jesus, he's 70 years old here. What an amazing person, let alone one of the greatest guitarists in music history. No one plays a lead like David Gilmore. He is truly comfortably numb!
Please note...... Jimmy Page lovers may have a word or 2 about who`s the better lead guitarist. Me, Myself, personally cannot choose between the 2. They are both the best in their specific style of playing. We are blessed to have them both as great guitarist is our era of music. I love both Gilmore and Jimmy Page. How can you not ??
There is absolutely nobody like him, no one. There are many great guitarists, alive and dead, but nobody like Gilmour. He is instantly recognizable, brilliant, creative and, my God, the way he makes the guitar weep.
who wouldn't? it will almost be offensive if any musician hired for one or some tours with either Gilmore or waters, act like if it was just another day in the office like a lot do pretending to be way cooler than the fact that they are there with them
Dude...Gilmore. The most beautiful lyrical solos in the history of rock, not to mention incredible vocal talent. He's 78 now. It's a shame that all that talent will one day just vanish.
I'd be honored if David Gilmour fans would take a listen to my piano & vocal performances of WISH YOU WERE HERE and SLIT SKIRTS by Pete Townshend on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of lyricism and composition. Done live with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
That's it. That's the pinnacle. The drummer knows it. The defining moment of music evolution. Much as I play guitar I will never attempt to learn this, but will just appreciate it for the miracle that it is.
David is 72 years old--I'm 69 and I have trouble getting out of the damn bed in the morning. Love his guitar and vocal--I've loved this band for 50 years--and, God willing, I'll love them for a lot more.
bj, I have never heard a better guitar solo, and he looks so comfortable playing--like it's second nature. I'm 60-ish, and I hope you and I both can listen to this man's incredible talent for many more years!
Classic Gilmour. How many times have I heard him play this piece? Many, many times. And every time is like the first time he ever played it. Pure Genius.
Perhaps nobody actually thinks about it, but what we have here is a passionate 70-year-old musician, playing the most MESMERIZING guitar solo the world had the pleasure to hear. David Gilmour is something unique, at his age, he's playing as good or even better than in his early days.
@@littleolme4521 How you loose your innocence as a child and realise, it's a song with very deep meanings for me. Keep enjoying spiritual music, this leaves my spirit open. God bless 🇬🇧

Shane Phillips That is exactly what I felt when I heard Shine on You Crazy Diamond for the first time (in 1978, 2 years after its release). This man plays the guitar like a soul s8nger sings the human soul.
I can't explain the feeling in my heart. The guitar is so good that I sometimes cry. Does anyone else understand what I mean?? I'm so happy that you understand how much joy and raw emotion that the guitar gives. Truly a gift from the universe.
I am 36 years old, and i've been listening to Pink Floyd since i was 16 years old, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond will forever be in my top 10 best songs of all time
Sometimes a piece of music is exactly what you need at that particular time and place. Today, now, this was exactly what I needed. I'm nearly 70 and it gets me every time. Thank you. Outstanding.
Christopher Wallace true, you also have to bear in mind an artist like David will feel driven to pull something out of the hat at a gig of this magnitude.

I think that drummer knows he's in the presence of greatness that may never be seen on this earth again
you got that right he knew what he was about to hear a solo never to be matched...
50 years from now people will be saying "Wait so the reason behind the annual coronavirus vaccine is because of a pandemic back in the 2020's???"
@@kevinzhang3313WHAT ? 🤔
Amen . He’s like am I really drumming for him. I’d be smiling too
Besser kann man es einfach nicht "spielen".
Das ist Seele pur - das ist einzigartig.
Diese Version habe ich bestimmt schon 500 mal genossen.
51 years young, I grew up with this music, especially with this song - with David Gilmours voice and with his unique guitar-skills.
Im 64 years old and that solo still makes the hair on my neck and arms stand up !
ten years your junior. Does the same to me.
Truly incredible, im only 26 but ive heard MANY versions of this song, too many to count, and this ranks as one of the best ive heard for sure.
There was some magic in those ancient pieces of stone that night 💎🔥🕉
yep, it's an astonishing solo..but "PULSE's" version is greater - both the playing and the "picture".
same here at 78
Ive never seen someone as happy and excited as that drummer was
Become experienced;)
Smile laughing that's so great ! Thanks for the message !
I think he is hot and cute
Holy sh*t, that's so true, it just hypes it up so much!
You've not seen me then!
I saw a youtube comment that was so beautiful, it made me teary-eyed. 🥺
"In 1972, as a teenager, I sat in a dark room, smoking a joint, listening to Pink Floyd on my headphones. Here I am, 50 years later, doing the exact same thing. I'm blessed to have lived during the time of Pink Floyd."
Thanks for posting that...I have to laugh, I did/am doing the same damned thing!
And who among us hasn’t set a candle on the floor in a dark room and made shadow puppets in the ceiling listening to Dark Side?
Comfortably Numb ;-)
There were headphones in '72?
@@lightyagami1435Yes, there were.
Arguably the best live performance by him in recent years. I just turned 73 two weeks ago and I’m still rocking! Won’t stop until they embalm me; and maybe not then.😆
The drummer is having a hell of a time he just can't stop smiling he sees history in the making forever
@NastyJam a
@NastyJam nope, I've met him. Just a super humble guy. Loves what he does.
i cant stop coming back to this song/video
he would have to eat about 10 raw lemons to get the grin off his face
Another reasoin I love this ....he's just loving it! Brilliant piece of music.
That final solo has saved more lives than therapy.
Hair standing up on my arms every time
I could watch this every day all day and still die a happy man. After I got sober, 13 years ago, it took me awhile to get back to Pink Floyd. Now I have much better appreciation for their work. Hell, I still listen to Radio K.A.O.S. from Roger Waters.
exactly!
Ahem to that. ☺
It makes my heart happy to know so many appreciate this music.
in 2077 I'm going to be 100 years old, and this song still will have the most emotional guitar solo in history.
And the best too
Eleni Best I'd go as far as stating that 200-300 years from now, music fans & critics alike will look at musicians such as Gilmour with the same reverence we show today when looking at Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, etc.
Couldn't agree more. This solo will forever send chills up my spine, provoke feelings of intense happiness and sadness, and bring tears of joy, respect, and agony all at once. There are only a few people who are capable of executing this type of emotional exploitation with 6 strings.
I'll be 110 and I'll agree with you.
best years to listen Pink Floyd
117 billion people have ever lived on Earth - and we are fortunate enough to be alive during this time to witness David Gilmour. 🎸
David Gilmore was 75 years old yesterday March 6, 2021. Which means he was about 70 when this was recorded. We are so lucky to share the earth with this man. And despite everything...thanks to Roger for the words.
I agree,I love all of there music ❤️❤️
wowser
he's also a family man so his time is even more precious
If I was God, my first law would be _"Nobody plays this solo but David Gilmour."_
70 and still kicking ass
Never seen a drummer so genuinely passionate and happy to be performing with the legendary Gilmour 😍
I would do the same...
Man.. He is Gilmour not Gilmore..

Try « Telegraph Road » from Dire Straits
You should listen to more music lol.
GaëlB Galbar lmao why u say that. There’s better bands yeh but idk bro this is so good.
the best solo of all time, soulfully, innovative, technically perfect and advanced for its time, catchy, and absolutely perfectly played as part of a timeless classic song with unreal lyrics.
I suffer from mental illness and a lot of the time it’s hard to know what i actually am feeling. The guitar solo in this song has made me feel more than any lyric, person or activity ever. Although there are no words, the emotions scream loud and clear and I hear everything they have to say. A beautiful thing.
Music expresses the things that our words cannot
Beautiful words Koben.
And I hear YOU loud and clear my friend. XxxX
I know exactly what you mean.
Oh go awayyyy
I hear you, brother. Incredible sonic and emotional experience , every time. 🤘❤
The look on the drummers face is the perfect reaction... imagine witnessing that solo!!!
I know it was a incredible when he took off his headphones just because he wanted to hear David solo
I'm talking about another video where Pink Floyd played for the last time together Nick Mason takes his headphones off so he can hear
It must be the first time this drummer heard It
I don't know maybe he just gets amazed every time
Drummer was just clearly amazed how this solo feels in live performance and you get to play along with it.
Well said ShinnaDEW and I have listened to it many times in the last 42 years. There are things that will never grow old.

I totally agree with you. Comfortably numb is my favourate track of Pink Floyd

My guy, Jeff Beck, is pretty good also. Listen to Behind the Veil, Cause we ended as lovers, and Definetly Maybe and vote again.

There is absolutely nobody like him, no one. There are many great guitarists, alive and dead, but nobody like Gilmour. He is instantly recognizable, brilliant, creative and, my God, the way he makes the guitar weep.
The only ones that come close is Jimmy Page and Jimmy Hendrix. But David Gilmour definitely the GOAT.
He's like a good whiskey gets better the more he ages lol

Probably the greatest guitar solo in the history of the world.
And then some Ernest!!!
It is THE greatest
You mean the Universe .
Totally amazing always listening to it
Yep
The drummer is smiling, happy to just be in the background in the middle of the best rock and roll solo ever performed.
That's right!
Smiling is putting it mildly. You can almost read him thinking - "This is really happening and I'm really here doing this! Fckng WOW!"
who wouldn't? it will almost be offensive if any musician hired for one or some tours with either Gilmore or waters, act like if it was just another day in the office like a lot do pretending to be way cooler than the fact that they are there with them
Humble man too, check out the grand tour Nick Mason is on that

Well no. Freebird is the best solo of all time.
Dude...Gilmore. The most beautiful lyrical solos in the history of rock, not to mention incredible vocal talent. He's 78 now. It's a shame that all that talent will one day just vanish.
Brings tears to my eyes, how can a mere human play a guitar like he does.
He is one of the top (3) guitarists of all time. Plays with such feeling.
Much as I play guitar I will never attempt to learn this, but will just appreciate it for the miracle that it is.
not a mere human, he is the only and true GOD
That’s no man. That’s a god
That drummer is the happiest person in the whole concert hall.
lol no kidding, he's having the time of his life. I'm guessing this is his favourite song
btw - actually, it's not a concert hall, it's the Amphitheatre of Pompeii... ;-)

Perhaps nobody actually thinks about it, but what we have here is a passionate 70-year-old musician, playing the most MESMERIZING guitar solo the world had the pleasure to hear.
