Les Paul with Lou Pallo and Gary Mazzaroppi wish Joe Walsh a Happy Birthday , Joe takes Les's Guitar and plays a blues in A song . Fat Tuesday's 11/19/90
Winter. 1969. Funk 49 had been out for a few weeks. My roomie and I snuck into the Student Center before closing and hid from the cleaning folks overnight. At 8 am when they opened, there was a line of 30 people freezing outside the door, lined up for tickets for The James Gang. We got the front row middle four seats that way. Curtains open, and there's Joe in front of stacks of Marshalls. It was by far the best concert I've ever seen. Everyone was standing and rocking out. Joe was so dominant I don't remember a single thing about the drummer and bass player. He just killed. At one point he had two Leslies on opposites sides of the stage hooked up to a Hammond B3. Literally mind-blowing. The gig was premised on the fact that Joe had to promise he would not get high before the performance, was the rumor. Anti-drug by the 'authorities' was a big thing in those days. Can't really blame them, I guess. Joe was so high it appeared he never opened his eyes for the entire 2 hours. (He's straight as an arrow these days, so bully for him). And he still played his ass off. When Fender had their '50 Years of the Stratocaster' celebration concert, about 15 of the best guitar players in the world performed. They were all great. Joe just smoked everybody.
What a sweet video. Les Paul acting like a gentlemen. Joe Walsh struggling with his addiction and yet still able to perform. Many veterans like Les Paul would have made a joke at Joe's expense. Les Paul handled the situation gracefully. Many thanks to the people responsible for posting this.
You are so right. He’s one of the best guitarists from back when he played with the James Gang and then he had a solid solo career. The Eagles took much notice and hired him to replace Bernie Ledon.
My mom sings some blues and jazz on the weekends with her band and her guitar playing husband. They got to play with Les at his club a few years before his passing.
@@Smoothways correct. JW doesn’t give a crap what he says or what mumbling ramblings he goes off on after he does a decent interview or decent play on the guitar. I watched that video and liked it until he had to ruin it by saying something so freaking dumb and classless especially in front of Les Paul. He couldn’t keep that thought in his head? I’m not a prude either but that wasn’t funny.
Joe is one of the most generous & conciousness people on the planet. Like here, sharing lead with the other guitarist. I saw him in concert in the early mid 70's. He brought out 2 black dudes to sing background on a couple tunes & when finished, they both walked off stage in darkness. Joe quickly signaled to hit them with a light, then gave prop man a thumbs-up. That's stuck with me all these many years.
showed so much respect to Les. Joe is capable of playing so much more than he did. This wasn’t a guitar duel to him but more about respect and honor to the great Les Paul. ✌🏻😎🎸
Well that's just it; being able to shred arpeggios and play a thousand notes per second isn't so much the measure of a "good" guitar player but a lack of confidence. Being "good" is all about sounding good.
Joe your willingness to Share your God-given talent, then put others in the Limelight right there with you, warms my Heart. Where else can you see that kind of magnanimity?! And the Humor you exude too, priceless! And of course, Les Paul, you are dearly missed Sir.
Steve Lukather (guitarist/writer Toto) is the one that tells Les Paul its Joe’s bday then grabs him on the shoulder! Great piece of history right here.
People like Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Chuck Berry all the old blues guys & guys like that were more than just great guitar pickers, they were entertainers that HAD to learn how to work a crowd out of necessity in their early days! it's an art form that unfortunately is almost extinct nowadays
Another beautiful scene...the talented, kind, Les Paul inviting the talented Joe Walsh to play on Les'' guitar. Man, that is a nice man. Joe played beautifully and sang the blues..soulfully. A great unplanned gig!! Thank you for uploading.
In 1973 Les Paul came to Dayton Band, a music store in Ohio where I took lessons for many years. He played foralmost two hours, told stories, told jokes answer the questions and was absolutely fantastic. He was by himself and he had all his looping and his tape machines and really old school stuff many wish he had made in his garage.
Sir Joe Walsh so talented great guitar player..artistic and flexible..you eyes cant close when watching him play. started watching him as back from the 70's his music today still stand the challenge of new artist.
None of them would be anything, none of us would be anything but acoustic guitar players if it wasn’t for Les Paul. It’s amazing to watch one legend pay respects to another legend. And then, they both jam. What a night that must’ve been!
Hi Mark. Beautiful popular lumber. We made up to 25 degrees the 23rd in southwestern Vermont area. Thanks Mark. Say Hi to Ed, ZZ, Hank, & Nuts 319. Stay warm everyone. Have a good Thrusday night the 23rd. 🥰😊😉🥶👍❤️💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌌 🌬

I saw Joe with the Eagles live Cominskey Park Chicago, 1978. The entire concert was the Eagles headlined, Steve Miller, Pablo Cruise, Walter Egan. My #1 concert ever. I was 16!!!
Personal Manager by Albert King. The original is smokin' hot. Brilliant selection by Joe on the spur of the moment. He may have been under the weather, but his guitar playing didn't show it. Hat's off.
This is brilliant on many levels and inspiring, Joe Walsh with Les Paul's Les Paul in this environment.....farrrrrrk. Iam gonna pick my Les Paul up right now!
Les Paul, such a talented guy in so many areas. Funny as any comedian I've ever heard work a crowd too! We miss you Les! As far as Joe Walsh goes, he's Joe Walsh!
Joe and Les had a common bond outside of music, both of them had a great sense of humor and could inject it straight into a song at a moment's notice. Take care!
"it's so hard to say I love you, when you're sittin on my face"... Lol, perfect way to end it. Just a fantastic and natural moment... Nothing contrived whatsoever
I've seen the Eagles twice and Joe Walsh 3 times....my life would be a lot less if it were not for these events in Rock n Roll History. While I was never lucky enough to see Les Paul in person I've heard hundreds who play his guitars and got their inspiration from him. A true American Treasure.
Joe is my personal guitar hero! So is Les. They are both so funny! Les can really keep up with jokes and come up with witty come backs, funny ones too, real fast! Brilliant folks..
Wow joe you brought a tear 2 my eye brother been following u since the days back on the Ohio farm lands took me awhile back then 2 figure out who u actually were Wow what a legend God bless you brother Walsh 👍🙏

God it's good to be old, to have grown up with . . .these guys.
No It's not good to be Old 🥺 are you friggin nuts 🥺
I agree with his second point, and you can’t have the second without the first, so. It is what it is.
As Joe says it was more fun to be 20 in the 70s than 70 in the 20s

Joe Walsh is the embodiment of what’s great about American music. Just great.
He got asked on stage to play les Pauls les Paul Joe Walsh is a legend
You forgot" by les Paul"
Les Paul is a national treasure. Rest in peace, guitar man.
No shit
dquaidman AMEN!
No doubt about that. The guy contributed so much to music.
Indubitably! When I think of the guitar, I think of Les Paul and Chet Atkins, two GIANTS
Joe too
Joe Walsh is pure gold and the public knows it
Looks very drugged too ;)
The public did not know how to respond at the end when he requested to follow him. Feels like they did not know the lyrics
Except for the guys in the polyester suits. They have no clue what true value is.
