Brian was having a very special moment at the time (he says at the beginning of this video that he was pretty busy but he couldn't miss the chance of playing with Les Paul), this was late March '91 and Made In Heaven was recorded between January and June 1991 in Montreux.
Queen members already knew that Freddie had AIDS so they were living in the studio and Freddie would call them when he was feeling well enough saying he would be there for a couple of hours to record some voices. Yet Brian May was kind enough to go to play with Les Paul. Freddie dies in November the same year.

Les Paul is a gem. Many years ago I heard that he played every Monday night at Fat Tuesday's in NYC. One time when I was visiting, I called up the club up Monday afternoon to ask if he was playing that evening. The guy on the phone said, "Hold on a minute". Then another guy picked up the phone and said "What do you want?". I repeated my question and the guy said, "That depends, where are you from?". I said I was visiting from California. So the guy said, "OK I'll play for you tonight". That evening my bucket list got one item shorter.

I can watch, check that, I have been watching Les Paul videos for 7 hours now... my face hurts from smiling.. when he speaks, it’s an absolute joy! When he plays, same... what a legend!!! I’m bummed I wasn’t more musically savvy when he was alive... Although, I feel like that with so many musicians. Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, Johnny Cash, JERRY REED!! Omg, to have seen Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins live, man, bums me out... and I was alive and capable when they were out there... and this video, so amazing... out of all these I watch, they have a commonality, all these great guitarist are nervous af to be on stage with Les, understandably so... what a legend!

When I saw Queen open for Mott the Hoople, Brian May was humble then, he spoke briefly a couple of times, and he had been sick and missed a few dates of that US tour, and was extremely thankful to have his health back.

    Just found this, great stuff!
Les Paul, distinctive and inventive as always...I think Dr May was awed by playing with Mr Paul. I think it also showed that he doesn't get to play with other guitarists that often.
Also, not to forget, that Queen were dealing with trying to write and record new material at the time, knowing Freddie had AIDS and could be dead in months or weeks. It must have been emotionally jarring.

I think of it more of a mutual learning experience, two different players, with two different guitars, who play with two different styles, just doing what they do. Brian cites Les as his part of his inspiration in building the Red Special with his Dad. Mutual respect

Not really. Two great players from different eras and different , and one, the much older and suffering from severe arthiritis, laid the base for much of what happened after his time. It would be silly to think about a fight. Only non-guitar players would see it like this.
