There is something so off about Bill. In every other murder case in which an adult child of the victim has been on trial, the surviving spouse has a very difficult time believing their child could be capable of murder, even when there is clear evidence. In this case there was no clear evidence and Bill was immediately ready to have Jason convicted. The loathing he displayed toward his son in the courtroom was extremely disturbing. If Bill isn't guilty, at the very least he has serious issues and is not the kind of father I would ever want. The fact that law enforcement was blinded by tunnel vision and didn't follow all tips and leads to conclusion is a referendum on their lack of judgment and incompetence. Those are the type of police and prosecutors who will never admit they made a mistake and will never investigate the case any further. On the other hand, in this case Jason's defense attorney was sharp as a tack.
The Dad had a physical fight with his older son a couple of years after the murder. I think that at least speaks to how poor the Dad's judgment is. I don't know it makes Dad a killer either, I personally think it was the local pill dealer addicts, but I at least think there's reasonable doubt for the kids.
How do they know it wasn't the dad? 🤔 They didn't really investigate him. By the time Jason got to his parents house and found his mother she had been dead a while and was already cold to the touch. So, doesn't that mean the dad could have shot her then left the house to try creating an alibi for himself (to show that he wasn't home)? 🤨 He could have disposed of the murder weapon after shooting her and leaving the house. Anything in that house with his fingerprints on it would be reasonable to police, as he lived there and obviously touches things in the house. If his DNA was found on or near his wife, that would also be understandle as it IS his wife. He would know that there wouldn't be much (if any) clean up necessary due to these things and the only thing he would have to do is get rid of the gun and possibly change into some clean clothes and dispose of the ones he was wearing (that may have had blood on them) along with the gun? If we're looking at motive, the dad was the only person who stood to gain financially from his wife's death... not Jason.
I actually think the father/husband did it....the son to me while not the most moral had no real motive to kill his mother. Now being married for as long as they were....now were talking! Thats when all the skeletons come out in a marriage.
I agree and I didn't hear anything about the time of death either. Since that could rule out where both the dad and Jason would have been at the time. Their cellphone location would have corroborated. I
I also think that he probably never like his son. It was evident during his stands when asked if Jason helped him...he damn near busted a vessel there. I think him and his wife might have had an argument over probably her changing her will to include Jason. And the husband didn't like that and it probably have been an on going discussion or argument between them. And that unfaithful day was the last draw. They way the lyrics described her as the glue that held the family together, i doubt she wouldn't want to leave anything for her son or her grandkids from Jason. Again, just my thoughts. It's sad all around either way. Leaving Jason's name off the mother tombstone was very wrong on the father's part.
@@naturalbeauty_abena1230 I noticed that too. He had a real disdain for his son. When I see parents have disdain for their child that means they CAN do things that will entrap or persecute the child. It’s a very toxic, dangerous thing. He could then “set up” the son to take the fall which is exactly what he did knowing the town would turn on the son using his affair to make him look like hey, “if he’d have an affair what else is he capable of”. The sad part is it worked for a few years until that second trial.
@@YaLittleFriend And while the father had such disdain, the mother probably constantly stuck up for him and finally the father blew a fuse. I saw that seething anger underlying his testimony when Jason's help was mentioned too!!
Hell it sounds more like Bill had the motive, means, and opportunity to not only murder her but to also get rid of the gun…plus with him being so adamant about his son doing it, it sounds like he wanted to pin it on someone else.
Just because the gun safe was unlocked and open, authorities didn't think it was of any evidentiary value? Wouldn't the logical thought be that BECAUSE the gun safe was open and because the victim was killed with a rifle, that safe would likely contain fingerprints and/or some DNA evidence of the killer on it?? 🤔
Apparently you would make an excellent LE officer. If you are not already, consider it. I think I would too tbh. I get really riled up when simple things are missed and even in complex cases my logic stands up. Lol, js!
Exactly!! The whole point of a gun safe is to keep it locked so kids and thieves can't get to them. And they had young grandchildren at the time. It's not common practice for the key to stay in the lock for easy access. That would have been at the top of my list when it came to evidence.
Bill Carter radiates self righteousness . Bill Carter embodies a cold indifference . Bill Carter did not love both his sons equally if at all. Bill Carter had no difficulty tying one of them to the stake. The headstone says it all.
Shame on Jason’s father and siblings, it’s so obvious he is innocent. I bet Mrs. Carter is rolling in her grave. Disgusting!! I hope Jason and his family find some peace.
And who in the department gets to decide what evidence is "credible" enough to follow up on?? 🤔 Nobody knows what evidence will be credible UNTIL and unless they actually do follow up on it. Anyone who's a fan of true crime (especially solved cold cases), knows that it's sometimes the smallest, seemingly irrelevant tips from the public that break a case. So I definitely question who decides what evidence/tips are worth looking into. To me, that just sounds like the authorities way around saying they already THINK they have the right guy and they are not going to be bothered doing any further investigation into a particular case. They just want to close the case, be done with it and move onto the next case on their desk. They don't care if the person they're trying to send to prison for the rest of their life is guilty or not, so long as SOMEONE is held responsible. They still get to go home to their families at the end of the day regardless of how it turns out. They don't have to try fighting the state for their freedom. They don't have to pay someone to try convincing 12 jurors that they're not guilty. I can't imagine the feeling of an innocent person sitting there knowing the rest of their life LITERALLY rests in the hands of 12 complete strangers. That sounds absolutely horrifying!
EXACTLY!!!!!!! One person's credible is another's no, it's not. LOL I think absolutely EVERYTHING should be brought in and then gone through. Scary world we are living in. 12 strangers who we have no idea about their lifestyle or backgrounds. They could be bad people too!!!! Drunks, druggies, who knows what!!!! LOL Very horrifying!!!!!!

Yep, and if they can site stupid things like "spoken words" to point the finger at Jason, I think there are many credible things like motive, means and opportunity to point the finger at Dad, including the possibly that his hatred of his son could have been the reason for the setup!

The only question I would have,if I was a juror, is when Jason says that his mom has been dead for two hours, how did he know she had been dead for two hours
I had that question too and I wondered if I missed something like maybe he had talked to her or saw her two hours previous. Anyway one thing is for sure. I doubt that Jason ever, ever pleased his dad. I imagine whatever he did was not good enough.
HE SAID THAT BECAUSE SHE WAS COLD AND STIFF HE WAS GUESSING DUMMY!! HE WAS IN SHOCK HE WAS HURTING, HOW DOES ANYONE KNOW WTF THERE GONNA SAY IN THAT TIME? GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE YALL ARE RIDICULOUS
Damn! This is one of the most perplexing cases I have ever come across. I don't know what to believe. Question: If Jason had planned to kill both his parents for financial gain.......why not wait for Bill to come back? What motive did he have by just killing his mother? I guess we will never know.
Motive: She insulted him and he hated her. How do we know it was him? He gave details during the call showing that he wanted to direct the investigation. He had already noticed the bullet holes--would you notice those, if you had just found your mom dead by violence? But most importantly, during that call he says that it looks like she's been there for 2 hours. No one would say that after finding their mom dead with blood all around her.
@@hardcandy921 - as much as I want to disagree with you, I find your comment a bit compelling. I don’t think I would notice the bullet holes though. I’d be so shocked that I couldn’t just see them. But people get shocked differently. I remember when I got a call from Kenya that my dad had passed, I felt this chill down my body. My body went NUMB AND MY BLOOD FROZE - at least this is how I felt. That coupled with being abt 10,000miles from Kenya. I didn’t cry for days, because I was still in shock. Didn’t wake up for days either. Anyway, a case can be made or broken depending on how the prosecution builds upon from the investigation’s standpoint.
@@rhondasisco-cleveland2665 it's extremely possible he wasn't thinking of his own personal safety but only thinking of his mother. He wouldn't have had a reason to belive she had been attacked. He would have only been thinking his mother was elderly and in need of medical assistance in which case he wouldn't do anything accept pull into the yard and run into the house. Only afterwards realizing the situation he was in. I that case he wouldn't have called anyone before finding his mother as she could have been safe or not even been there. If he had called before entering the house that would have led to the assumption he knew she was injured before he entered the house. Which is simply not the case.

It's sad how Jason's family turned on him. They ought to be ashamed. The mom had to be to the glye and peace maker for all of them. Jason had nothing to gain from murdering his mom..may she R.I.P💜
It broke my heart when he said his name was not on the headstone so how do we not know the husband didnt do it? in every other case when someone kills for the inheritance they put the person in jail thats gonna inherit the money money makes people evil and kill the dads grief in court was not genuine it was fake the dad might be guilty
The person was TOO EMOTIONAL on the 911 call? It has been said over and over again, never judge a person on the way they behave immediately after the shock. People are different, they act different, they are in SHOCK!! Grieving is another misconception, some people keep their grief inside, some let all the emotions flow, there is no right and wrong way to grieve. Yet in this programme they go back to the age old - something wrong with the 911 call.!!! Judging how he was on the call. I can sympathise with the Son, I would not know what to do either!!! When you find someone that is absolutely without a doubt DEAD, do you call the police? Do you call the coroner? Where would you get that number from? Do you call the funeral home? Who do you call? He called his wife (or someone close) to tell them, probably hoping they would tell him who to call, or would come rushing over. I think I would call a family member - I would call a member of my family that always took charge, that is probably what I would do. Any life saving attempt is long gone!!
This one’s got me stumped!! I’m usually pretty sure that this person did it or that person did it but this one not so much!! The dad had the financial motive for it but it is plausible that his mom might have told him she would tell his wife about his affair and he killed her so his secret wouldn’t get out. It seems like Jason’s wife is close to his parents. Another thing is that the son at the end said to his wife without crying and pretty emotionless he felt relief and then as soon as the reporters started asking him how he felt he immediately started “crying” (without tears) and saying he couldn’t even talk when he had just been talking fine and not crying. Also Jason even said he thinks his dad lost his ever loving mind when he saw his wife dead. He never said I think my dad is blaming me because he did it
His son didn't do that, if he was going to hurt anyone it would have been his dad. He needed his mom way to much. Sorry his father is blinded by grief and guilt.
Hold up!! The guy saw the gun safe open with the key still in the door, and he didn't think that it was important enough to seize? It wasn't possible that the dad hired someone to kill her and he gave them the key? Crappy police work.
Can’t edit my comment below. When a innocent person goes to prison and is eventually released prosecutors and detectives should go to prison for not doing their job and destroying a innocent person’s life.
Why didn't they look into the son billy!?!?! He threw his dad 2 the ground and kicked him in the head and was arrested for it in 2019. Which shows his violence towards his parent's!
It’s terribly sad that Bill, still thinks his son, Jason, is the one who murdered his wife, Jason’s mother. I do believe the jury got it right in acquitting Jason. I think Bill just wants to blame someone & he can’t see past his own grief to realize that he is falsely accusing the wrong person. I can’t imagine the pain that Jason has endured knowing that his father believes that he killed his mother. Idk why the father has such hatred towards his son? It makes me feel that his father despises the fact that Jason had an affair. Therefore, in Bill’s mind, if he could commit one act of betrayal, then he is capable of committing another. I think Bill is looking at things as black & white & refuses to see any gray area. I think that Bill’s pain is controlling his life & his thoughts constantly. I understand he has experienced a great loss, but I doubt his wife would have wanted him to do this to one of their children. The sad part is that Jason’s children will never have a relationship with their paternal grandfather. If he is capable of cutting his own son off, he is capable of cutting his grandchildren off as well, wether it is just or unjust. I think Jason may have had to learn some hard truths about his father. His father would want mercy shown to him, but he is not willing to show mercy to his son. It’s very sad! My heart goes out to Jason & his family.
That whining voice when calling and not getting along with family. There doesn't have to be financial reward for murder, just hatred and the fact that they're not getting anything is enough. Even the father talked about him being useless. One that got away with murder. Police didn't even follow up ,even after the crime scene was obviously staged .No other people had motive or benefited from killing her .
Authorities are supposed to look at and analyze ALL the evidence and allow that evidence to lead them to possible suspects... eliminating them one at a time. In this case (and many others) the authorities did it backwards. Rather than look into all possible suspects, they built their case and evidence around one person. And, the reasons that led them to have this tunnel vision were ridiculous to begin with. They used his tone of voice in his 911 call to point the finger at him, they used the fact that he was having an affair to point the finger at him (its quite the stretch to say someone would kill their elderly mother just because she MAY have found out about her son having an affair on his wife), which btw this is the first time I've ever heard a prosecutor try using an affair as a motive for a defendant murdering their MOTHER, usually it's the movie for someone killing their spouse or the spouse of the person their having an affair with. Then they use money as a motive... even though Jason wouldn't have had ANY financial gain by killing his mother, as everything was to go to his father. Then they get over 20 phone calls of people giving the names of the same three men to look into for the murder, and even telling them where they can locate the murder weapon, but they didn't even bother exploring those possibilities because they were dead set on Jason being their guy. Even once someone is acquitted of something so heinous as murdering their nearly 70 year old mother and has been charged, drug through a murder trial having all their most personal details aired out for everyone to hear, spending time in jail while awaiting trial, etc... their life will still never be the same..there will still always be those people who regardless of an acquittal will look at you as a man who got away with killing his own mother. He will never be able to escape that.
That Dad is the most likely person to have committed this crime not the son. He had motive, means, and opportunity but tunnel vision helped steer away any suspicion, and real investigations into him. It's also horrible that he wasn't close to his children so he doesn't have to look them in the eyes every time for this crime! Horrible police work.
i totally agree. I think the dad did it. he was too persistent on blaming his son. It was already saud he was not close to his kids. So he have nothing to lose on blaming his son.
Somehow I get the feeling that Bill killed her and framed Jason. Cuz. why sooooo bitter when even he does not know for sure that Jason was involved, esp. since I think that it was he. Playing grieving husband to excess to create doubt and bitter toward Jason to create blame and guilt, and for the fact that his plan was only partially successful.
Everything he have say and what he did that day is extremely suspicious. But sadly, there is not enough evidence to find anyone guilty. I feel so bad for Bill.

I don't believe the friend who said he called his mom a "b9999," people lie, and calling someone a negative adjective doesn't mean they are a murderer.
Maybe it’s not the investigator who convinced the father that the son did it, I’m thinking it’s the other way around. And that’s why the father brought the civil suit against the son, while the investigator was still sitting on his job. Just maybe🤔
I think the dad, Bill did it. I've always thought the dad did it. Was he planning to frame Jason? Who knows. But my gut instincts say that Bull and his wife had an argument about something and it got really out of hand. Maybe they didn't love each other anymore. Only God knows what happened.

The father is a monster to his son and law enforcement is decidedly a joke!!!
Those police should resign in shame. They didn't even do the basics of their job.
Well dang, I did not expect that ending. Wow! I wonder why the father was so adamant that it was his own son?

He didn’t call for help first…HOW did Jason KNOW the KILLER wasn’t still in the house??
And who in the department gets to decide what evidence is "credible" enough to follow up on?? 🤔
Nobody knows what evidence will be credible UNTIL and unless they actually do follow up on it.
Yes and squeezing evidence until it fits what their flawed investigation leads them to. Meanwhile, Bill is at home saying ... "Shoot!!! I almost got that boy imprisoned, I hope they don't start looking at me!~"
Could it be possible her husband killed her? No accusation, just wondering if anyone else thinks it is possible?
I actually think the father/husband did it....the son to me while not the most moral had no real motive to kill his mother. Now being married for as long as they were....now were talking! Thats when all the skeletons come out in a marriage.
Yep, and if they can site stupid things like "spoken words" to point the finger at Jason, I think there are many credible things like motive, means and opportunity to point the finger at Dad, including the possibly that his hatred of his son could have been the reason for the setup!

It's easier to take out one at a time.... two against one.... maybe not quite as easy?

Jason didn’t call for help first…Why wasn’t he afraid? HOW did Jason KNOW the KILLER wasn’t still in the house??
