Definitely a great school. Attend their GST 1 course for my department and even though I have over a decade of BJJ, I learned a great deal. Love their mindset. We also went to dinner as a class and Both brothers were super chill and personable with everyone. Shows a lot about their character.
I love when super high level athletes especially combat sports learn a different martial art. Completely different, but his mentality and athleticism makes him understand probably alot faster than most people. Elite level athletes are elite for a reason! They are 1%, different breed.
As a BJJ brown belt, I'll always be on the side of the Jiu Jitsu guy. But I'd be genuinely curious if in a real fight, Ryan's ridiculous punching speed could keep Rener from closing the distance and getting a hold of him. Ryan has a shorter reach, and Rener is taller, but bro Ryan is so fast with his jab and cross. It's not a given that Rener could get to him. Unless he imanari rolls or something.
Im super boxing fan for years but this video proved to me that even a pro at some body contact sport can be a total rokie a at another different body contact sport.

Ryan is a terrific boxer with the talent to be among the best in the sport. Hes always had a reputation of being a bit hard headed and lacking humility. True or not this is awesome to see from him to go and humble himself to learn such a beautiful martial art. I swear, I was away from the Gracie Academy for 12 years do to injuries, multiple surgeries and joint replacements, I missed it all those years not only because the Academy and instructors are so good, so professional and the facility is spotlessly clean and professionally run, but it is more because of the same reason I signed up back then, Rener and Ryron are not only world class MASTER instructors, their spirit, enthusiasm, generosity and absolute purpose in spreading and giving back Jui Jitsu to the masses is ADDICTIVE! They and the Academy are once again my addiction, healthy addiction that is, literally I Jones when I can't go, I would be there three times a day if I could, sadly I still have injuries that prevent that for now, and age HA HA, but getting there. I use the gracie combatives program along side my daily training at my gym to really help drill those fundamentals until they’re muscle memory. Just earned my 3rd stripe after my 2nd month.
This was actually really helpful for me as someone relatively knew to BJJ, Rener Gracie is a great teacher and I love when people teach in a way that even a beginner could understand.

He learned all those techniques in 1 day😲?? it took me about 3months to perfect the Gracie Combatives techniques. Because I don't have a partner and I solo drill, it takes a little bit longer to remember them. Right know I'm in the Gracie Master cycle on my own(solo) because there's no place or people near me to train with.🙃
I had no partner for Combatives, either. Rarely, someone was available to help. So, I bought a Submission Master grappling dummy. My belt test is in a few weeks at the nearest bjj school, which is about a two hour drive. The dummy allowed me to work near infinite repetitions of techniques and I would video myself. If you want to succeed, you will find a way. How are you doing master cycle solo if there is a sparring component? Best wishes.
Love that you are practicing and drilling, but until you practice in a real roll, it isn't going to stick. In drilling everything is easy. It becomes infinitely harder with resistance.

Trust me if you even get into a street fight with a wrester you want to learn something about stuffing takedowns. In a street fight most dudes ain't throwing Hands instead you might get dropped on your head

You do learn takedowns in jujitsu but I feel you burn way too much energy trying to wrestle when it'll just eventually end up on the ground anyway

If Ryan is serious, he will get black belt quite quickly. Would love for him to have BJJ as a skill set too.

I’ve been pretty consistent for almost 2 years in bjj and I’m barley about to get my blue which is pretty average. These things take time

@Joobkl I do BJJ and judo and Wrestling and I'm sure I was when I first started too but I guess I assumed when you're that famous and for a martial art you'd be less awkward about it idk 🤷♂️ I guess he is jjst a regular guy lol I'm probably expecting too much from him
It’s cause he was uncomfortable. Jiu jitsu is a lot more intimidating than people think.
