Indeed, I like to learn pure Gracie Jiu-jitsu from the Gracie Family members. But, here in the Philippines there are already prominent Jiu-jitsu Professors who learned directly from the legendary Gracie Family. I'm looking forward to train with them.
Currently a purple belt of BJJ, and proud if my journey, and my Professor is fantastic. But this is the way JJ should be taught all over, then sport second, not the other way around. Thank you Gracies for keeping this part alive.
Gave myself BJJ as a gift for my 60th birthday!! Been at it 6 weeks… Literally changing my work/meetings schedule to make sure I can get to class!!!! Is there a 12 step program for this? Pretty sure I’m addicted already.
@@mthomps0 Unfortunately no. There just wasn’t one close enough to me. Pretty happy with where I’m at. But I do review a lot of Gracie videos and then work on that when I’m at my place.
Hey great post , I’m 57 and I’m going in as well . I’m fortunate to have a Gracie school near me as I truly believe their school has advantages in a very through training program
I'm a white belt started 3 months ago brazillian living in portugal. I've seen this guy and this brother video 100 times and been in the mat a little. Even watching basic techniques I'm still learning some little detail.
Just turned 55 almost ready to get my Gracie Combatives belt. Love classes and all the friends at Gracie Seattle Certified training center. If your on the fence regardless of age or physicality sign up take the free intro class. Literally nothing to lose. You might just find something you love.
Same here . After trying to get smashed by younger guys and eventually getting my ribs separated I ( didn’t quit) I “transferred “ to a Gracie school in Milwaukee. Best decision
I learned Jiu-Jitsu for free😂 thru these videos and I'm teaching my friends and families for self defense. Love from Pilipinas. ♥️A special thanks to sir Rener for giving us free lessons👏. God bless you amd your family. 🙏
Love Rener's energy when he talks and teaches GJJ in the videos. I've tried several BJJ schools but finally found my home at GJJ Footscray, Australia. Also, I have just passed my combatives test and am in the master cycle. :)
Head and arm also a great control sub from mount with an untrained opponent. Rener shows how powerful basic Jiu jitsu is in a self defence situation. Love it!
Damn after watching this I already feel like a black belt :D It seems so simple and yet so complex at the same time. I love the way Rener explains this stuff and goes from a to b to c to z in a playful manner. This is when you learn the most. While you keep it playful. Until now I never even realized to lock my feet and get my knees up while on top. Something that small is already a gamechanger to me. Brilliant stuff
ive been studying the martial arts since 1986 and teaching since 96 this man is hands down the best teacher ive seen and yes i do gracie combatives as of 2018
As a brown belt, I am pretty good at keeping the mount. However, I never use the super hooks. I usually use grapevines, butter mounts, etc., etc. That's why I love fundamentals. Those little techniques make all the difference. I am going to start using it the next time I go to class.
For the longest time, I also used the grapevines but my knees felt like they'd pop out when people did an explosive front kick to free their leg. Now, I use superhooks.
@@jesselowe9374 Yeah, some guys have "no chill" or don't know how explosive a technique can be. I had the opposite occur where a brand new guy placed me in grapevines on a drill and then he stretched my legs out to the point where I felt my hips would separate. It was his first time training BJJ (he said) so I had no idea he even knew what "grapevines" were.
Not trying to start drama but dorian develops made a video called “ jiu jitsu saved my life but destroyed my body” i really think its deserves renars opinion
sir i want to ask something , you said any member of gracie in their prime can beat mike in his prime, without exchanging punches.. so why Brian Ortega do boxing or kickboxing in mma, why don't he only depend on gracie jiu jitsu. like your uncle Royce , who only use jiu jitsu in his fights.
God. After i watched the Magnus Midtbø video i have never wanted to train jiu-jitsu like i do now. I already liked it before. but now.... god i wanna do it so bad.
I just came across this video just seconds from another sports jiu-jitsu channel saying sport bjj is self-defense. Not trying to start any drama, but this video proves otherwise. Yes, you can do good in a street fight with just learning sport bjj, but once you start adding punches and grappling on pavement it's a whole other story. It's just in my opinion a dangerous thing to say thinking what you're learning on the matt by sport jiu-jitsu school can be as good as Gracie Self Defense Jiu-jitsu. Thank you Rener and to your whole family for your art.
@@rwdchannel2901 I have not seen it. I'll check it out, and I totally agree with you. I just think since most people quit after 6 months or up to blue belt, my money is on the gracies. Thanks for the recommendation!
Everything sounds good with what Renner says except his opinion on Mike Tyson in his prime and thinking he could keep distance with him in his prime. Has he seen the distance Mike covers in split second with his bobbing and weaving and those huge hooks and uppercuts coming in from different angles to take a huge guys head off let alone a medium build dude like Renner. I would love to see Renner in this position but I truly don’t think he could maintain the fine motor skills due to the stress he would experience facing a monster like Tyson in the ring. It would only take one shot to turn Renner into a brown belt and another to turn him into a blue belt. Also have we seen Renner in a mma type combat fight with striking allowed. I saw him in a grappling session with UFC fighter Joe Stevenson who was a smaller guy and they ended up in the standing clinch position trying to collar tie each other, if this was Tyson he would be throwing huge multiple combinations on Renner.
The gi makes you work for it in training. If it goes down in the street you already got more gas in the tank. ( even though when you do it right your burning their energy not yours )
@@seattleboatdetailingmobile1926 I think this is, definitely, the case when you are grappling against guys that have less experience. I have seven years of no gi experience too (three w/10th Planet) and I find it more difficult to escape in the gi with lesser experienced guys due to the grips. I can still get away rather easily, but with no gi it's much easier (especially when sweating).
The most confidence inspiring teacher, love Rener. Would be an honor to learn from him someday.
He teaches you faster than you can realize you're learning something.😅 Rener is a fantastic instructor who loves the people.
I prefer John Danaher. Jiu Jitsu that actually works on the best people in the world.

fantastic, stick with it and enjoy bro! You can checkout Gracie University, they have a number of classes free of charge.
There is no 12-step program, unfortunately. But there is a 5-step program! (White, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black.)

Reners like a human golden retriever

Just an honest and excellent, excellent intro to jiu jitsu.

I can't believe Rener is actually giving the Gracie Combatives 10 minute intro. Lesson #1 trap and roll. 😅
EVERYONE gets the 10 minute intro, even private students. It takes different forms, but you ALWAYS start with Lesson 1 ;)
And lesson # 2 Americana and # 9 Armbar from Mount and Clinch #15, Triangle Guard #10, Rear Naked Choke # 5.❤❤❤

Best video yet for white belts. Thank you. Now it all makes sense. Every white belt needs to watch this slowly.

STOP wasting your time with the gi. Traditional BS.
I hear you, but the majority (if not all) of the techniques taught in this video will work in no-gi too. I train in the gi now, but I love no-gi.
You fighting some stripped naked bozo on the streets? Where I live, we wear coats, sweaters, in the fall and winter.
The gi makes you work for it in training. If it goes down in the street you already got more gas in the tank. ( even though when you do it right your burning their energy not yours )
