I think this is great advice. Don’t forget boys. You don’t have to start at your goal. If your goal is to shadow box one hour a day. Start with 10 mins a day, then 15 mins, 20 mins. You get a confidence boost everyday you do just a little more and you will be at an hour in no time. Beauty of life is that it doesn’t matter where you start, only matters that you don’t give up.
Thanks for the great tip coach! Peace.

When I started kick boxing back in 1983, my sensei John Rosas Jr. didn't have us do anything for the first month or two except workout and learn basic striking facing a wall of mirrors. Form was the most important fundamental, then flexibility and strength. Then we started very light training drills and light sparring and eventually, those who could take it had to be invited to join the full contact training. People watch professionals fight and never stop to think of the time and dedication it took to get them to that point. There are no short cuts. That's tougher to understand the older someone is when they start training :)

This is great advice. I use boxing to rehabilitate my body after being in a wheelchair for years and prep me up as an athlete. I do long distance running (my African country has hills in rural areas) that make it perfect for building mental willpower and endurance. Every night I train for at least 3hrs (8:30 - 11:30pm),mixing it with kicks to heal my legs, strengthen the hips and hamstrings. It has worked out successfully so far.

Ive been boxing/training for around 13 years and i have to agree with everything in This video and i like how you kept it simple yet focusing on exactly what a beginner boxer should be doing. I always heard the old saying that boxing is 90% mental -10% physical and that is very true. The only thing i would do differently is for the shadowboxing i would first teach a stance and jab then straight right/left ( depending on southpaw or orthodox )then lead hook and show the beginner how to put it in combos and while shadowboxing mix and match punches into combos. As the beginner shadowboxes they can ingrain basic fundementals .
But i agree with you all the way.
This is exactly how im starting my son. Roadwork/shadowboxing for 1st 2 months.

Honestly I like this... jogging, shadow boxing... simple.. also a core of combat sports... You get stamina, you work on your technique, you get over social anxiety because random ppl look at you, you have low chances of injuring yourself.... I did Muay Thai for a monrh and tbh I found these to be my main obstacles... on top of that I'd advice fixing any traumas if you have any.. because they surface once you start training with people... I have bad positure habits and that is a big impediment for me.. turns out I need rehab and it's very awkward when you aren't ready to continue your favorite sport

Hey man, just wanna say thanks for the tip. Your right I would think so, lots of beginners do forget about the mentality of the fighter, I believe this because It's definitely something I've forgotten. I would know, I used to be a box a lot when I was 8 to 13 years old then got tired of It, lately however as the years have come past I realized what I'm missing and why I used to box, thanks for the reminder that I needed. Thanks and wish me luck, and good luck to you as well hope your channel succeeds.

Thank you for these videos! It's amazing what sticking to basics can do for you especially because I'm not even training to fight and just trying to be active everyday. 😄
I'd like to add, doing some breathing exercises on your rest days.
    30 Minutes.
1st - 10 minutes - Sit and relax on a chair, inhale from nose and out to mouth. Do it as slow as possible. NO MUSIC!
2nd - 10 minutes - lay down on the ground on your back, get one of them pink 3 lbs. dumbbells and place it on your stomach. inhale from mouth, exhale to nose. As slow as you can. (This is basically a modified Stephen Curry breathing exercise where his trainer keeps adding sandbags on him as he breathes in and out on the ground)
3rd - 10 minutes (the most difficult one) - Find something to read online that you really dislike (nothing messed up) just something that makes you wanna punch a wall because you disagree with it so much. Once you're done, try to calm yourself within 5 minutes while doing some quiet inhales and exhales. Then the remaining 5 minutes, you think about what you're gonna do for the day and move on.

Technique before speed and power. Proper technique will maximize your speed and power
Punches start from the core, full extension on the straight punches, turn lead/back foot on the hooks/uppercuts
    Clenching will drain you faster.
    Control your breathing.

Thanks man, really good advice from you , people forget the most simple yet important and rewarding things like these two, I mean like who's gonna get focused and listen to you saying that all you need to do is run and shadow box they'll be like bro you serious right now? But they'll never really make out there in the ring by just doing some flashy stuff like the mike tyson shadow boxing or the Rian Garcia cobra bag work. Anyways bro thanks for the advice I've been learning boxing for about a year now not physically but mentally by watching old kings fight and learning their techniques step by step all I do is just jog 3 to 4 days a week along with some simple bodyweight exercises such as push ups pull up and sit ups and also sometimes do some shadow boxing drills at home, I'll definitely make sure to do what you said in this video and keep it consistent, also I'm just 16 and have a huge dream of becoming the heavyweight champion of the world in the future so please pray for me so that i can make it.
