- Hi there! I'm Shannon, the crocheter behind theloopholefox.com. I'm excited to spend some time with you today!
This crochet tutorial will teach you how to crochet the Moss Stitch (which is also known as the Linen or Granite stitch).
This video not only teaches you HOW to crochet the Moss Stitch (Linen/Granite Stitch), but why it works as well as the stitch anatomy so you can move forward with confidence. I'll show you how to work the rows, how to find the chain spaces, how (and when) to use a stitch marker and mistakes that might be made.
To use this crochet tutorial, you should already now how to: chain and single crochet. I'll show you everything else.
I also have a blog post about the Moss Stitch, which includes a photo tutorial, a basic wash cloth pattern to practice with and how to work a gauge swatch. Working a gauge swatch is the best way to figure out how many chains you'll need to create a project.

Thank you. You explained the stitch pattern so well 😊
Thank you for your comment! I'm so glad you liked it 🥰
So well explained!! Thanks!
My pleasure! I'm glad you found it helpful. 🥰
Thank you so much. I’m past my beginner staged but your thorough explanation and use of stitch markers still helped a lot.
This is the third moss stitch tutorial I’ve watched and each used different chain counts for wither the first row or turning chains. Your explanation has helped me decide not just WHICH technique I will use (definitely yours) but also WHY I would choose one over the others.
I'm so glad you walked away from my tutorial feeling confident to make a decision like that! There are definitely many ways to start this stitch and none are wrong, there's just one that works best for us. Even if you didn't use this way, I'm happiest that you feel confident to make the decision 💕
WoW! Love how easy you taught this. Thank you for making this video. I am enjoying learning all these new stitches!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. 😊

You explain it so well! I was about to give up but then I watched your tutorial and I finally got it! Thank you!
Oh gosh, I'm so glad my tutorial helped! It's such a beautiful stitch, it would be a shame to give up. Thank you for taking the time to let me know it helped you! 🥰
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial! I was having trouble understanding where to put the single crochet and this helped me so much. I am a true beginner and I really appreciate the work you have put into your tutorials.
Oh my gosh, thank you for your kind comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial - it makes it so worth the effort when it helps people. 🥰

Oh, thank you so much! I'm so glad you found it helpful. 💕
Great demonstration, thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your kind comment 💕
Oooh I'm looking for a beginner idea to create something for my mom. Perfect!
Moss stitch is a great option! Relaxing once you get into it and such a pretty look when finished! 😊
You teach this so well! Learning the anatomy and the "why" of this stitch makes it so much easier to understand. I love how slowly you teach and not just speed through it like some other videos I've watched. The ends always give me anxiety and most of the time they end up wonky LOL. I had given up on any stitch other than a straight single stitch. Thank you for taking the time to really teach it!
Oh my gosh, you're so welcome and thank you for so many compliments! I'm glad that my tutorial was helpful for you 🥰 I think teaching style matters so much when it comes to learning something new. I hope you feel confident to learn other stitches now! 😊
Great tutorial! What brand yarn did you use for the washcloth? It’s gorgeous!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊 The yarn is I Love This Cotton in colorway Pastel Print. 💕
Thank you for the info. I forgot to say earlier that I’ve watched many tutorials on the moss stitch. Your instructions were thorough and clear. I appreciate that you explained every step. I finally have straight edges! I just subscribed 🤗
@@lacrossemom Oh, I'm so glad! I do my best to explain it as thoroughly as possible and I'm so happy to hear that this tutorial worked for you. Thank you so much for the feedback and kind comments. 🥰
