I tried to make a sample following what you've shown, my work does not have a rectangular shape like yours, mine looks more like a spiral staircase, haha! My stitches are loose and even. I’m in love! This stitch is soft and squishy and Pretty! This will take a while to make a sweater, but it will be like wearing a fuzzy teddy bear ( without the pieces that tickle your nose & make you sneeze).
I love this stitch. It was also my mother’s favorite. I always just crochet over the tails when I change colors because I hate going back to weave them in, especially when I’m working on a big project.
Thank you thank you thank you for going soooo slowly and not assuming we know. Brilliant Truly thank you Robin beautiful stitch lovely yarn too. I’m fed up of videos showing three stitches and then say pause the video and comeback after you’ve done 15 rows!! 😂😂 I’ll be watching all of your tutorials please don’t stop xx 🥰
Hi Jaynie, I know what you mean!😂 I used to teach workshops face to face before this, so I wanted the experience to be similar. Crocheting along together! Definitely won’t be stopping videos but still in post house move unpacking/sorting zone.🫣
You are a star, i have been trying to get back into crocheting but been struggling to find a clear, consise, and visually appropriate way to "re-learn". You and your videos are IT, thank you so much I am truley greatful for this ❤️
I absolutely love how you segment label your transcript. I forgot hw many multiples and start up of pattern and it literally took about 1 minute to find what I needed. Kudos to you
I was playing around with stitches…. I wanted something easy and I didn’t have to think much about it as I was crocheting. I came up with this idea. It’s the most calming stitch I’ve done. My daughter wanting to do it and wanted the name of the stitch to look it up. I told her I made it up. ( little did I know someone already came up with it!). I’m sharing this with her.
I learnt how to crochet purely from your tutorials! They're easy to follow and clear but most of all, you don't just stop after demonstrating the stitch. I like seeing you do a few rows as it helps get the learning to stick and gives you a feel of how the work should be looking. I've watched many tutorials and get overwhelmed with the jargon and waffle used, your videos make every stitch clear, concise and most of all, exciting! Can't wait to try this one! Thank you for all you do ❤️
I love your tutorials and how you explain as you go, and I also love that you pretty much jump right into your tutorials and if you don’t you tell us when we can
I agree. I also like that you'll show the stitch work on your completed project. So many flip it around that I can't see what the work should look like when it's worked correctly. Plus, I like that you use a neutral nail polish. There was one from someone else who had a pattern on hers and it was very disorienting.
@@mehchocolate1257 if you use the website www.mirrorthevideo.com it flips any video on UA-cam into a mirror image which will show the crocheting left handed for you 😃🧶
I've been crocheting off and on for decades but only recently found the joys of this stitch. It goes quickly, is easy, and makes a nice fabric for just about anything, including blanket borders.
I use the moss stitch for my "scrapghans" because it's easy to change colors, and it works like a dream! I've been crocheting for over 50 years, but I learn something new almost every time I watch your video. Thanks! Love from Alabama, USA❤
@amydickinson2043 The starting chain has to be an even number, but you need to add one as the starting stitch. If you don't, your starting chain will be 1 short, making it uneven.
My grandma taught me to crochet 40 yrs ago when I was a teenager! This is one of the stitches she taught me! I haven't crocheted since but have just taken it up again. My next project will probably use this stitch! Thank you!
I love this stitch, too! It’s great for all kinds of yarns as well as all kinds of colors. Thanks for demonstrating change of color at the end of the row. It’s a very useful technique and helpful for using up our leftover yarn.

I just started my moss stitch blanket. It is turning out so good! I’m using greens browns and yellows and planning to put sunflower appliqués on it. I have been crocheting for years! This is the first time I have ever used the moss stitch and it is already one of my favorites! ❤ Awesome tutorial. Your voice is very easy to hear and understand.
I love this too, Robin. It is truly beautiful in any yarn and color or many colors. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I’m always confused on how to start and end a row. You’re the best 🥰
Love the simplicity of this stitch for designing so many different looks for the blanket. I’ve used it to make a herringbone effect, a weave effect, all by choosing different coloured yarns to create the “fabric” look you want. Great tutorial here in this video, the get creative with colour when you are confident with your crochet skills!
First video I’ve seen that will allow me, considering how my mind works, to do a purse that I want to do! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Wonderful!
I have just picked up crocheting. My daughter's teacher, one day at her school, showed her class how to do it and had them all try it out. She now wants to learn it and so I started it to try and help her with it. You have made it so easy for us to learn that I am now using this stitch to make a full size blanket. My daughter, who is 12, is trying to make a blanket for her cat. 😁 We both have watched other videos about this and have found yours to be the easiest to follow and comprehend the steps. Thank you so much!
I’m 63 years old! My seventh grade science teacher taught the entire class how to crochet. I just read that crocheting and knitting release serotonin, so it helps with depression and anxiety. If you’re already a happy person, I guess you’re going to be even HAPPIER!! 😂
I just picked this up a few days ago and thinking making a scarf would be an easy start. I’ve practiced some basics already and I’m so happy I ran into this first. Now I can make my scarf not look so basic lol. I love this.

OK, maybe this is a dumb question, but what is a temperature blanket? I do agree this tutorial is the best, I'm attempting to teach myself how to crochet from watching videos. This is one I think I could actually do. My problem right now is I'm missing stitches even over the chain. I bought a neck lamp that I'm hoping will help.
Oh, this is my go-to stitch for blankets! You can easily put a pattern in both ends and it stitches up so quickly yet looks beautiful and drapes fantastic. You are so welcome Sandra, I am glad it helped!😃🧶
I’m in love! This stitch is soft and squishy and Pretty! This will take a while to make a sweater, but it will be like wearing a fuzzy teddy bear ( without the pieces that tickle your nose & make you sneeze).
It is so squishy! 😍 A sweater sounds a great idea for it Laurel.
So ,simple, informative, easy and beautiful at the same time. No stress crochet. Thank you
No stress crochet - I love that! 😃😃 Thank you so much Kelli.x
This lady 🇬🇧 is ace at tutorials, so much better than some others on here.
Thank you!😃
Amazing teacher!! You know how to pause and go slow. You don’t kept your hands in the way, you show use more than once!! I LOVE IT😭♥️♥️ THANK YOU!!
You are welcome!😃
I love this stitch. It was also my mother’s favorite. I always just crochet over the tails when I change colors because I hate going back to weave them in, especially when I’m working on a big project.
Good idea! 😃 Thank you so much for watching Frieda.x
Thank you for being very thorough, and taking your time explaining each step. I was able to follow along very easily. This is a TRUE tutorial.
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
I've been knitting but this stitch makes me want to crochet - just ordered my hooks!! excited! 😁
Yay!😃 I hope you enjoy it.
Yay! Happy crocheting to you.
Thank you thank you thank you for going soooo slowly and not assuming we know. Brilliant Truly thank you Robin beautiful stitch lovely yarn too.
I’m fed up of videos showing three stitches and then say pause the video and comeback after you’ve done 15 rows!! 😂😂
I’ll be watching all of your tutorials please don’t stop xx 🥰
Hi Jaynie, I know what you mean!😂 I used to teach workshops face to face before this, so I wanted the experience to be similar. Crocheting along together! Definitely won’t be stopping videos but still in post house move unpacking/sorting zone.🫣
I'm a complete beginner and this was a great step by step tutorial. Thanks
You’re welcome Bridget, I’m glad it helps.😃🧶
You are a star, i have been trying to get back into crocheting but been struggling to find a clear, consise, and visually appropriate way to "re-learn". You and your videos are IT, thank you so much I am truley greatful for this ❤️
Aw thank you so much! 🥰
I absolutely love how you segment label your transcript. I forgot hw many multiples and start up of pattern and it literally took about 1 minute to find what I needed. Kudos to you
I’m so glad it helps Sherry!😃
I'm semi self taught and still consider myself a beginner. This was really great to follow, pause, replay and so clear to understand. Thank you!
You’re welcome Donna, I’m so pleased it helped - it is such a lovely stitch.😃🧶
Thank you for all you do ❤️
This was so lovely to read, thank you so much! 😃🧶
I just want to agree with what Lisa here said! As a newbie the way you keep teaching helps SO much!!!
Thank you Sara!🤗
I love your tutorials and how you explain as you go, and I also love that you pretty much jump right into your tutorials and if you don’t you tell us when we can
Aw thank you so much Tammy! I try to accommodate both aspects - a little info if its wanted but also the chance to skip straight to it 😀 x
I agree. I also like that you'll show the stitch work on your completed project. So many flip it around that I can't see what the work should look like when it's worked correctly. Plus, I like that you use a neutral nail polish. There was one from someone else who had a pattern on hers and it was very disorienting.
@@HookedbyRobin as a left handed person I find crocheting hard

Have you a tutorial on adding an edging around this blanket please
I've been crocheting off and on for decades but only recently found the joys of this stitch. It goes quickly, is easy, and makes a nice fabric for just about anything, including blanket borders.
This has been my favorite crochet stitch for several years specifically because it makes such a dense blanket. Thank you for this video.
It really does Rebecca, I’m glad you like the video.😃🧶
This is perfect for the scrap blanket I've been thinking of making! The colour changes are so beautiful, and it's such a simple mindless stitch.
It really is, perfect for doing in the evenings. Thank you so much for watching! 😃
Oh yes! Excellent 💡 idea... a scrap blanket. Thank you for posting your comment
I use the moss stitch for my "scrapghans" because it's easy to change colors, and it works like a dream! I've been crocheting for over 50 years, but I learn something new almost every time I watch your video. Thanks! Love from Alabama, USA❤
Awwh, thank you Jeanne!🤗 This is one of my favourites.🌈
I’m new to afghan making- do you chain x number of stitches to start?
@rrd9826 Yes, ma'am. For moss stitch, you chain an even number plus one. It depends on how wide you want it.
@@BlingBug3794 Why do you add the plus one? I am confused about when this is needed and when it isn't. Can you help me to understand?
@amydickinson2043 The starting chain has to be an even number, but you need to add one as the starting stitch. If you don't, your starting chain will be 1 short, making it uneven.
My grandma taught me to crochet 40 yrs ago when I was a teenager! This is one of the stitches she taught me! I haven't crocheted since but have just taken it up again. My next project will probably use this stitch! Thank you!
That is so lovely Jane and I’m glad you’re finding your way back to crochet.🥰🤗
Thank you so much! I'm relatively new to crocheting (at 68!) and this was very easy to follow. I can't believe I'm making beautiful blankets now!
My pleasure!😃 Enjoy making your blankets, it is a beautiful stitch.
Thank you for showing how to change color and for explaining what you’re doing as you’re doing it
I am pleased it helps Hannah! 😃🧶🌈
Thank you for showing more than one row. It really helps cement it into the brain for people such as myself. ❤
You are most welcome Hannah!😃🧶
I agree this is a great stitch! It always catches my eye especially with different colored rows 🧶😎
The tails are a pain but the overall effect is totally worth it! 😍🧶
I actually enjoy sewing in tails. 🧶😎

I love this stitch, too! It’s great for all kinds of yarns as well as all kinds of colors.
Thanks for demonstrating change of color at the end of the row. It’s a very useful technique and helpful for using up our leftover yarn.
So good for using up leftover yarn! 😃 Thank you so much for watching.🤗
This stitch is amazing! I've made scarves and blankets for all my friends and family and have gotten really popular on tiktok from sharing my crocheting! Thank you so much for making this video! I didn't know how to crochet before this, and it's been an amazing journey!

Thank you for this comment. I was feeling overwhelmed

I’m so glad to read that Linda, enjoy making your purse.😃
I have just picked up crocheting. My daughter's teacher, one day at her school, showed her class how to do it and had them all try it out. She now wants to learn it and so I started it to try and help her with it. You have made it so easy for us to learn that I am now using this stitch to make a full size blanket. My daughter, who is 12, is trying to make a blanket for her cat. 😁 We both have watched other videos about this and have found yours to be the easiest to follow and comprehend the steps. Thank you so much!
This was just the loveliest to read, thank you so much! I love that your daughter is making a blanket for her cat too.😃(Crazy cat lady here 😅🫣).x
I’m 63 years old! My seventh grade science teacher taught the entire class how to crochet. I just read that crocheting and knitting release serotonin, so it helps with depression and anxiety. If you’re already a happy person, I guess you’re going to be even HAPPIER!! 😂

I was thinking the same! Gonna work on a new temperature blanket soon and didn't want to use the same stitch as the one I'm work on right now! I think im sold on this one!
I’m working on a blanket in this stitch for my daughter in law right now. My only difference is that I do a starter row of single crochet first and then jump into the moss stitch. Great video, thank you!

@@lilianastalinska3515 i normally make around 100 to 200 chains, depending on the weight of the yarn and size hook.( With bulky yarn it takes less chains)To be honest, i normally just eyeball it and just chain until I'm satisfied with the size.
