I'm in the "they threw out the baby with the bathwater" camp. DC Comics was never the same post-Crisis, and the publishers learned a bad lesson and started the endless string of relying on event gimmicks and universe reboots to sell comics.
I'm the same way with some older comics, I prefer reading on the original newsprint whenever possible. The artists and colorists were working with the limitations of the medium, and when the stories get "upgraded" to another medium they don't look right in my eyes.
As a George Perez Batman Joker Art fan . Bought it mainly for that mini Joker vs Batman part in issue 2. Satisfied for that alone. But yeah, the Crisis story seems to be too long to reach it's point.
Glad you mentioned that it’s just not very readable… i’ve never been able to get in to it, it has aged terribly compared to the timeless classics of the same era that you can’t help but compare it to due to its iconic status.

Crisis screwed up the Legion of Super-Heroes, Roy Thomas’ All Star series and shoved the Shazam universe into a place where it doesn’t fit. I do get trying to reinvent Superman but think they should have figured out some other way.
The only universe I want to see is the one where everyone has the same hairstyle as the Monitor.
I've been reading superhero comics since 1989 and have STILL never read Crisis.
Worth it just for George Perez art in my opinion. This was his peak period.

Crisis On Infinite Earths is still my favourite 'event' comic, and is probably in my top 10 favourite comic-book stories of all time.

I had a similar experience with George Perez' art where it didn't really click with me until I saw an issue of New Teen Titans on newsprint.
