One feeling I always get from this band, from each and every one of their albums is the genuine, emotion, heart, and rawness you they put into the songs. No matter how they change stylistically, that's been a constant.
Baroness has always been my favorite band, but Gina adds an element I didn't know they were missing, I can't fucking wait to hear the whole album! Amazing first track.
I dunno - just reminds me of the same harmonies Pete provided. Gina has fully stepped into the role, though. I don't think they've skipped a beat which is great.
I love this song so much! It's kinda psychedelic, kinda indie rock, kinda prog rock, kinda fuzzy...and Gina's backing vocals and guitar playing are so great. She is my new personal guitar hero.
It took me a few months to figure out why I appreciate Baroness’s music so much and it’s simple: Baroness makes the music that I always wanted to make. Thank god for that.
Bill would never in a million years play through a rig that sounded that shitty lol. Love the track but those big open chords at the 1:50 mark sound horrible. Not a fan of the direction John has taken his tone since Red and Blue.
I hear it slightly and its pretty awesome. I love both bands they just have a unique sound both of them its brings a element to the metal scene that is orginal to the style
Falling like a hammer On a solitary arc It struck a nail Now we'll never be apart Just a shadow on the wall And I curse the ground beneath my feet Curse the boiling sea Curse the stars above my head Staring back at me Damn the wind they can't explain Damn the head behind it Wait for me By the gallows pole Hang around I won't be long Borderline Get me out alive When it rains I am right where I belong I'm sorry but the voice Inside my head, won't let me go I know you won't forgive me For the things you'll never know Come back to me sweet autumn Can you hurry up and find me? I believe that they said "damn the wind the curtain split damn the head behind it" I think its a Wizard of Oz reference. But hell I could be totally wrong.
Absolutely fantastic. Feels like a culmination of the journey so far. It's got the power of the first few albums, the twists and turns of Yellow & Green, and the fierce melodic sensibilities of Purple. Gina's vocals sit so well in the mix, and the guitar work is as stellar as ever. Nick and Sebastian's jam at the end is awesome too. It's gonna be a long three month wait for this album.
It’s just too bad the rest of the mix and mastering is fucking trash. I’m really disappointed they went back to the same dud who did Purple. I’d love to actually hear the guitars, it’s too bad the kick drums washes everything out
I generally get relatively excited when a band releases an album, then there are bands like Pearl Jam, Basement and Baroness, which I get ecstatic about their releases. I just get the impression that each individual member from Baroness is on top form to make the band theirs, and I’m super excited about that. Plus they are one of the best bands I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live.
I LOVE all the rhyrthmic layering going on here. That offbeat ride cymbal really throws you and makes you think its in half-time when its not. Really messes with your head. That's so cool. Also, that rifferage tho! Perfect.
I feel like I'm the only person who, and I say this as someone who really cares about and has a working knowledge of audio production, is completely in love with the mixing on this album. It's spitty, it's noisy, it's loose, it's volatile, and sometimes it comes close to falling apart but it's actually interesting and engaging sonically rather than some projects where the overly clinical "clean" production just sounds bland and disconnected. I'd rather have a mix that was full to bursting than never changed. Sure, the dynamic range can be unpredictable on jazz records, but it's not a mistake or terrible there. I think this choice puts Baroness in alignment with a strong tradition of rough sounding and tonally interesting rock records like Led Zeppelin II and III, The Beatles' White Album, Husker Du's Zen Arcade, Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Fever to Tell, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, Deafheaven's Sunbather... I think they've made a drastic artistic choice here, and it makes sense that it would be polarizing, but I absolutely love the risk taken here to adopt a more chaotic tonal characteristic for a out-there band.
Their genre is literally called sludge metal. This is intentional and I personally love it. Most people don't though so I think they should listen to the majority and clean it up.
Yeah same I'm listening and I'm in recording school right now. This isn't bad at all, it's garagey and dangerous. I dig it. Not every record needs to sound like it was recorded in a frigid laboratory.
YES. I totally agree. I was put off by the production of Purple, too. After falling in love with this album, I went back to give Purple another chance and fell in love with it, too. Went back to Yellow and Green and found things in it I'd missed before and fell in love with that album. I went cold on Baroness for a while but I'm so glad I found them again.
I don't think you have to go the clean, sterile and biteless production route to make gold & grey and purple sound better. You don't have to sacrifice a fuller and heavier sound neither. A band with busy and loud guitar work, busy and loud drums and bass need some texture, nuance and detail, I think a producer like Brendan O'Brien would have been perfect for this, or Kurt Ballou.
Just when I think I couldn't possibly love this band anymore, they go and drop this track and it instantly becomes one of my favorite songs they've ever written!
I dont think there's any words to describe how much I love this song. Thank you Gina. The harmonies in this song is FLAWLESS! As soon as I heard the song for the first time I got chills and preordered the album. I cant to hear the rest!
There albums are ALWAYS worth the wait. When Yellow and Green came out, that horrific van crash couldnt have come at a worse time. Yellow and Green was in my main rotation for two years. Every time I started it I listened to the entire album. Rock album of the year when it came out to md. Purple is good but Y&G is great
Saw this band live with zeal and ardor and Deafheaven!! I was impressed!!! Loved the way they both took harmless solos or lead parts Instead of one guitarist just shredding away They shared that moment together
Sounds very promising. Gina's contributing wonderfully on vocals on top of the awesome guitar playing. It's evident that you play well together. I just really hope that this new album won't suffer from the overblown sound of "Purple".
This was my first thought as well, but my hope went down the drain as soon as the first bass drum was hit and it already started clipping. What a shame.
Incredible. It has felt like an eternity waiting for some new Baroness. It was well worth the wait. I am impressed every time. They harmonize so well together. Can't wait to see them at The Agora.
I’m a new fan. Have seen comments on people not liking the mix on this record. I love it. It’s part of the sound that attracted me to the band. It might not be traditional. I think it fits the music. Great stuff.
Holy Shitballs! Gina harmonizes with John so well! Sounds so good! I'm very excited about this new album. Can't wait to see Baroness live again!!! Every album gets better and better!
This is definitely the best Baroness song of all! I kinda discovered you guys when you appeared on Rig Rundown on the Premier Guitar channel when I was consuming everything pedalboard related from youtube. BUT, when I saw you guys on That Pedal Show, I knew you guys were a band worth checking out. And the guitar duet on the 43 min mark on that video made me want to listen to EVERYTHING you guys posted here on youtube just to hear that song, and here it is. That's poetry with strings! Congrats to everyone involved! Can't wait for the next album!
This is incredible. Everything I’ve been waiting for from Baroness but somehow more. Thank you! I also never imagined how great of a fit Gina would be in this band. Not just her playing, but her voice pairs so well with John’s. I cannot wait for this new record!!
Saw them play last night in Seattle, they really killed their set and I wasn't even sure what to expect because I hadn't heard this yet, definitely going to buy the album.
If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, I'd have a very hard time picking between these guys, Mastodon, and the sword. All of them are to phenomenal. It'd be the equivalent of picking which child you love the most.
With the way that Baroness change things up every album, every time they do something new I expect to be disappointed. Then every time I hear something new I love it - sometimes straight away and sometime after a few listens. This is no exception, and the more I listen the better it becomes. Hardly an original thought, but Gina seems to be a massive asset even though I always thought Pete Adams was superb (and still is with Valkyrie)
Cant wait to see you In Madison WI on Saturday. Been a fan for a while and I finally get to see this amazing band. This new song is awesome by the way.
I'll admit, I was worried about where things were going to go with the harmonies, as that's been one of my favorite parts of the sound. But, this was fantastic.
This was awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on the LP when it comes out! Considering how great all the other albums are (sonically & visually), I'm hyped to see the fine detail and beautiful design this album will have
I love how even though the album is "Gold & Grey" there are all the previous colors too, it's visible in the cover art, and also in this video, it's a great way to wrap up the chromatic theme
First listen : This sounds too much like Purple Second listen: Okay, the melodies are cool Third listen: BORDERLIIIIIIIIIIIINES GET ME OUT ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE
Greetings from Colombia, we can't wait to see you again, it's a shame we're not included on your LA tour. Love your music and Gina is an amazing add to the sound of the band, amazing!
Over 3 years ago i went to my first concert for the release of the album Purple by Baroness. Since which, I've been waiting for exactly this. Gold and Grey baby!
Throughout this psychedelic track singer-guitarist John Baizley belts shadowy lyrics about being haunted by his demons. I think these are personal demons that he's struggling to defeat in order to start anew.
The way I’ve always explained baroness to people is ‘it’s like what mastodon wanted to become when they became prog rock instead of metal’ I dig this song. I hope the album has a similar vibe as Green & Yellow, that album is amazing
I feel like I wait an eternity for each new Baroness song and album.
Every time, it ends up being worth the wait.
Try being a Tool fan

Glad to see you here, man! Love your videos!
Thank you!
I mean it's something to look forward to while you're sitting through Kid Rock.
Baroness is life
One feeling I always get from this band, from each and every one of their albums is the genuine, emotion, heart, and rawness you they put into the songs. No matter how they change stylistically, that's been a constant.
Baroness has always been my favorite band, but Gina adds an element I didn't know they were missing, I can't fucking wait to hear the whole album! Amazing first track.
The vocal harmonies between John and Gina are amazing
What of they had all three?!
Like what?
I dunno - just reminds me of the same harmonies Pete provided. Gina has fully stepped into the role, though. I don't think they've skipped a beat which is great.
Got to meet her in Austin. Sweet and talented person.
Such a creative bunch of musicians. Can't stop listening to them lately.
I love this song so much! It's kinda psychedelic, kinda indie rock, kinda prog rock, kinda fuzzy...and Gina's backing vocals and guitar playing are so great. She is my new personal guitar hero.
check out the live version she's even more prevalent.
Made me want to listen to this album again.
:)
Works well against this snow.
Thanks, you Glorious Fecks, you.
Every song gives me the feeling of nostalgia and literally hurts. I fucking love them. But it’s emotionally painful. Anyone else?
Yes. There is a lot of emotion in this band. They are hard rock and pyschedelic rock and they are sludge metal, but also emo. It's weird.
@@GrymgarA lot of personalities mashed into one, probably why a lot of people like them and I totally get it
@@TheMetalMachinist yeah I actually love them a lot and have been a fan since Red. The musicianship in this band is off the charts
Gina has really added something special to their sound!!

Damn Gina's voice is so good. A perfect fit for Baroness and John's voice
Hm. I cannot seem to hear her for some reason.
@@daviddenaldi816 At the 3 min mark it comes to the fore more.
I was thinking the same thing, they harmonize together so well! I don't feel like a lot of bands are doing this, or capable of doing this
DAMN GINA!
I love her so much, she rocks too hard
I love you guys so so so so so much...
anyone else feeling a Mastodon vibe to this? I'm not complaining because this is great. Mastodon Baroness tour would be epic!
I saw both of them in Columbia MO back in Blue Record days. Bill of Mastadon was sick so John and Pete took turns filling in. It was amazing.
Feels like i've read this comment a million time
Bill would never in a million years play through a rig that sounded that shitty lol. Love the track but those big open chords at the 1:50 mark sound horrible. Not a fan of the direction John has taken his tone since Red and Blue.

both bands are from Georgia
Falling like a hammer
On a solitary arc
It struck a nail
Now we'll never be apart
Just a shadow on the wall
And I curse the ground beneath my feet
Curse the boiling sea
Curse the stars above my head
Staring back at me
Damn the wind they can't explain
Damn the head behind it
Wait for me
By the gallows pole
Hang around
I won't be long
Borderline
Get me out alive
When it rains
I am right where I belong
I'm sorry but the voice
Inside my head, won't let me go
I know you won't forgive me
For the things you'll never know
Come back to me sweet autumn
Can you hurry up and find me?
Wait for me
By the iron rail
Hold on
Borderline
Get me out alive
When it rains
I am right where I belong
Across the borderline
The architect stopped by his design
I never fell so hard
Could be the odds
I could hesitate to fight
Borderline
It gets me out alive
When it rains
I'm finally at rest
thx
I believe that they said "damn the wind the curtain split damn the head behind it" I think its a Wizard of Oz reference. But hell I could be totally wrong.
Damn. I was too high. I thought the song was about a guy wanting to go back with his ex. She asks why. He said "it could be the ass"
@@midz_west9606 i hear "damn the whip that cracked and split damn the hand behind it"
