This is truly something far beyond music genres and classifications. Sounds to me like a mix between Pink Floyd (psychedelic/progressive rock), Cynic (fusion/jazz/tech death), some Meshuggah (djent/mathcore, even if in this song I can't hear particular polymorphism) and maybe even some jazzy soul elements. And it works, fluid and flawless. Masterpiece, and maybe future milestone.
Okay so it’s the second coming. Didn’t you see Jesus standing behind them in the last section of video? I mean, come on, that’s Jesus fucking Christ. Hands out, offering you eternal life. And then he jacks off twice. What will they call the next coming? Trijaculate?

Just dropped in to say that this is the best video of the year by a long shot
Oderus has been gone such a long time, its great seeing him again!
Ambient, theatrical, somber, the context of the albums heartfelt story, the composition, the ending of the album, best album of the decade
This song is probably my favourite I've heard so far this year. Never heard Rivers of Nihil but I'm glad to be here now!
Gotta admit, one of the best videos I've seen in a while.
Check out "Die Baby Die" by Kadavar.
@@KamenMinkov Not heavy enough.
"You have an idea for our new video?"
"Hmm... Something with orcs?!"
"No, let's make it look like we're a band from the 70s and..."
"...but we need at least one orc!"
I think that's the tree man from the cover!
It clearly is some sort of owl guy :D
I think that's the guy who introduced himself to all the owls, so now they know his name.
@volim Bravo
@volimNestea Such a polite guy!
I absolutely fell in love with their music. Amazing band and awesome video
discovered this a few weeks ago, amd I've already listened to this track dozens of times. Only such a good track can pull off such a goofy video and still be so damn rewatchable.
I don't think I've seen so many smiles in a death metal music video before but I like it
This video just made this song like 25% better in my head.
the most perfect death metal music video has been made!!
This may be the single greatest music video in the history of mankind
One of my favorite heavy metal songs EVER❤
This song has been a staple of my Spotify rotation for about a year. The video is just an added amazing bonus lol. Are any of their other songs close to this tone and perfection?
The whole album is good.
The album after is different but it's a good thing. A lot less sax but still good metal.
You should really check out Subtle Change and my personal favorite from them The Void Which No Sound Escapes.
Their new album, The Work is amazing as well.
But you really need to try Black Crown Initiate - Song of the Crippled Bull. It's the single best technical progressive death metal release I've ever heard. A perfect 10 in every aspect.
Also Hath - Of Rot and Ruin, amazing album. Has some standout songs like Currents or World Within.
My +1 would be Slugdge - The Spectral Burrows
@@M4RCi92 I saw black crown and rivers together. So fucjing amazing. No live sax though sadly.
Take LSD, ride a bike to a suburban hill or lake with a person you love, lie on the ground and play this on a mini JBL speaker as you watch purple summer sun set thousandfold over pulsating horizon ...
That the man from Black Crown Initiate? He jumped into a Mario. Bros warp tunnel, fought Bowser and landed on River of Nihil's vid. Nooooice! 🤪
Andy isn't just a cameo in the video, he's actually the greater part of that harmony on this track
Yeah, he did the cleans at the beginning of the song.
He is the meme lord Andy Thomas
I was wondering about that. I manlove Andy Thomas!
This so beautiful, brilliant and BRUTAL \M/
This video is a mix of acid trip, 2014 memes and early youtubers editing skills. AND I LOVE IT
I'd happily pay for and watch a two hour set of these guys just playing the outro of this song.
✓ Dope sunglasses and bowler
✓ Saxophone
✓ Orc
But does it djent..?
✓ It does
Nice set-up and punchline lol. You got me laughing after I clicked "read more"
There isn't really any super djenty riffage in this song tho.
Unless I'm tripping balls
On a 6 string lmfao
How is this djent? Learn your music n00b!
And idiots say there's no good metal bands today.
The people who say that only know mainstream metal bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
People DEFINITELY say that! I was listening to Spiritual Healing by Death on youtube just yesterday, and I saw a comment that said "shame that there are really no more good metal bands today" and I responded like "u fookin wat m8?"
Dont talk shit about Maiden and them being mainstream, they were never ever on radio and such.
Bro, they're on the radio NOW. They get played during classic rock sets.
Don't even, just....don't even.
yeah, but imagine, my studio recording teacher (a man that has more than 20 years in the field of sound engineering) told me that too, a fucking egocentric fool, he just listened to the 80s metal bands because he said "there are no longer good bands"
when you step on lego at 2:24
Omfg yes
Your comment made my day mate! Thank you
Fucking lol
I am ded
my first thought usually "have I broken that block?"
Top 10 video of all time! I will never stop watching this.
Never heard them before..but this...THIS... I AM AN INSTANT FAN!
First of all, props to young Leo from that 70s show for that drummin'
I've been listening to this album a lot since the release, and specially this song, the video was not what I was expecting AT ALL!, I'm gladly surprised :D
The gig recently in Bristol (UK) with Black Crown Initiate supporting was just absolute majestic bliss, can't wait to see these boys again live!
Я не знаю, каким образом ютуб поместил это мне в рекомендации, но я охереть как благодарен ему за это.
Just discovered this band, love how different they sound and experimental. Not many metal bands out there can come close to this. Looking forward to seeing them live on Sunday supporting thy art.
You guys literally become King Crimson at 2:00 and 3:54 and it's pretty freakin' sweet
Thinking the exact same thing!
I was feeling more Supertramp with the sax
Literally the best metal video I've ever seen.
Oh UA-cam you are on fire with recommendations just now
Sitting down, having breakfast. Watching this video. It's just making me happy. Will send this video to my Pink Floyd and other 70ies bands-loving dad. I'm curious on his reactions. Great band, so awesome!
Saw them first before ever hearing them opening for Killswitch and it was a night of fate I'll never forget. I love the video and how it masks the depth of this songs weight. So beautiful yet terrifying. I remember seeing the sax player and we all were like is this really happening?? Holy shit it's perfection!! We were floored.
I dont listen to much rock or metal. But this is a masterpiece.
Alright, relax, it's not the Second Coming or anything.
Sebastian Lacroix hahahahahahahhahaha
Okay so it’s the second coming. Didn’t you see Jesus standing behind them in the last section of video? I mean, come on, that’s Jesus fucking Christ. Hands out, offering you eternal life. And then he jacks off twice. What will they call the next coming? Trijaculate?
i think 20 years down the line we will all be older, we will just call it good music
Ihsahn did this ten years ago with “ on the shores “ solefield did it before that as well .. it’s an awesome album( best of the year for me ) but not crazy original
