My dad never really cared for my taste in music and we had a lot of childish arguments about it, but he really liked this song a lot, he had cancer and didn’t get out much but the day this album came out I asked him if he wanted to ride with me to go get it and he said yes, and what was originally a 30 minute ride to the store turned into a couple hours of us just cruising around talking and listening to this album, one of the last meaningful conversations we had together and every time I hear this song it reminds me of that time, definitely a masterpiece and a heartfelt song.
This comment signifies what this song embodies to me; Something that leaves a lasting impression, and easily their best work. Thanks for your comment. It makes the song even better.
Judging by the past pretenses in your comment, I can only assume your dad is no longer with you, or us. If my assumption is wrong, I apologize, but if I'm correct, I'm sorry for your loss. You and your father have a great taste in music, and I wish you the best in your life. Those types of moments are what make life worth it, and I wish you many more. Cheers to you good sir.
Ironically, my late husband used to blast this song. He was an amazing chef, fcking hilarious, animal lover & loved heavy music. I miss him so much & listening to this song took me back 2+ years ago. He died otw home to me after work :( this band meant so much to him & I hang their Purple album in my gallery wall ❤
This song helped me through such a dark period having to face 4 years in prison. I discovered Baroness late one night when I couldn't sleep and I was in my head. This song came on an underground radio station. I was stuck and I silently cried while surrounded by bunks of sleeping women. I had an epiphany realising where my addiction got me and decided I was going to rise above this. The next day I bought and downloaded this song onto my mp3 (I know) and listened to it nonstop while I walked around the track in the yard. It was a pure spiritual experience everytime I heard it....
Lisa this song does that to me as well . I spent some yrs in prison and some dark dark yrs in my heroin addiction . Life is amazing now . Keep goin sister I'm rooting for ya ...
I feel like a idiot posting this after reading some of the other comments, but... I just got engaged and bought my first house. Stressing a little bit. You guys and a sixer of fat tire are really helping out. Please keep making this beautiful noise.
+Princegweedo I love Baroness's new stuff. I don't like Mastodon's new stuff as much though. "Crack the Skye" is the best flavor of Mastodon and has aged perfectly.
+Tingle Triggers I think that they actually realized it themselves, Crack the Skye was kind of the culmination for their metal career, so after that they just started having fun with their next records.
+LadderOfTheGeese completely agree with you. i wasn't the biggest fan of crack the skye but i still really liked it a lot, one of my favorites from that year. mastodons last one, "once more round the sun"? it wasn't bad, I'd say about on par with the lifesblood EP in terms of likability, and i just had to throw on "remission," "leviathan," and "blood mountain" right after hearing OMRS just to relive the glory days. i shed a little tear when mother puncher, hearts alive, and circle of cysquatch came on, lol. such a great discography they have.
+Ray Jackson It feels like it's far beyond metal, far beyond genres. I mean, I'm a metalhead, but this... this is special. I shouldn't write much more, I am totally mindblown :D
+The Internet Killed Music that's funny you're saying that under a music video for a SONG on UA-cam, which, as far as I'm concerned is an INTERNET website LOL
This song came out just before my grandmother passed away, and as much as I love this song, it's always going to remind me of her. I'm thankful for that. She lived to be 91, had one daughter, and three grand-kids. Baroness, thank you for this beautiful song. Mimi, thank you for everything. I love you.
My buddy introduced me to Baroness around the time Purple released..I was instantly hooked. Especially this song. Tragically, he was a very troubled soul and took his life a few years later. His birthday was yesterday...this one's for you Chad ❤️
This is my first listen of this band (recommended by Jesse Leach), didn't think I would sit here for the whole 6:50 but I did... Was really captured by it, such an interesting song, taking so many turns I wasn't expecting. No one will probably read this but still, I'm definitely going to look into more of this band... good stuff.
+Javier Di Maio I agree, this is a great song but it has too much compression i guess. I think this kind of mastering is a result of records being too "loud" in recent decades therefore lacking dynamics. Finally its a matter of taste.
+Hearty Oatmeal excatly how i felt while listening to this today, first time aswell. the only word i could remember to describe it is simply exhilarating.
This is seriously one of the most epic metal songs I've heard in a long time. The lyrics are profound and the energy and emotion behind the music and singing...this is one of those songs that to me exemplifies what music is really all about. A lot of people say there aren't any great songs being written anymore...IMO this proves them so very, very wrong. I'm in tears by the end of this every time I listen to it. It's made me want to get back into guitar playing after I'd all but given up on it. Thank you for creating this amazing song.
+Zidders Roofurry you don't need to "prove" any1 saying "there aren't any great songs being written anymore", that there is good writing... that should already be 100% clear for most... the way I see it is, if you truly think like that then your just not listening good music and that's all lol...
Listen to it at least a couple times a year since it came out (Purple album that is) Chlorine and Wine on the other hand, several times a month probably lol
PLEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEEEE........DONT LAY ME DOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWN....UNDER THE ROCKS WHERE I FOUND....MY PLACE IN THE GROUND....A HOME FOR FATHERS AND SOOOOOONNNNS
Absolutely love the change of moods in this song; starts with a melancholic , sad one, turns to anger just very shortly, , ends up in positive vibe. Only few musicians can do that.
Have been recently diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma...i will tell you that this song and Id do anything are two of the big songs on my list when i do chemo ...they hit hard
This is such an emotional & breathtaking song with the story behind. I was on this gig for the PURPLE album in Cologne and cried a lot. But: in a good way ❤
This song is like the perfect blend of classic and modern rock. Epic and melancholic at the same time. Fucking yummy. It's amazing seeing how the band evolves with each album. Thanks for inspiring me to learn guitar, many years ago.
this song is so good, you can actually smell chlorine and wine when you listen to it. the end with all of them in the soundbooth singing is pretty emotional to me for some reason
After listening to this song for the thousandth time I heard the lyric "I’d never felt so uncomfortably numb Here by your side" What a brilliant little nod to the influences of the past.
I saw Baroness in Buffalo last summer, amazing show. I got front row and Pete noticed that I was jammin the whole time and actually came right up to me and began playing the guitar solo directly in front of me, as if to play just for me. I mimicked all the guitar work right beside his hands and played the entire solo like that with him. Incredible concert, amazing band, and a concert I'll never forget. I even got the entire band to sign my purple CD. Thank you Baroness!
Seeing you guys back strong and smiling and producing such amazing music again makes me so happy, and I'm sure I can say that on behalf of all Baroness fans! P.S. saw you guys at Leeds Festival and it was performance of the day, just incredible.
When I called on my nursemaid Come sit by my side But she cuts through my ribcage And pushes the pills deep in my eyes The taste was much sweeter Than chlorine and wine And my doctor’s unable To cut through cable that leads to my mind In spite of the winter There’s ways to keep warm Whatever you give me Please know that I’ll ask you for more The day I stopped swimming And came out of the tide I’d never felt so uncomfortably dumb Here by your side Black rose on the bed Turn me to fire Black rose in the vein Shine in your eye Please Don’t lay me down Under the rocks where I found My place in the ground A home for the fathers and sons Black rose on the bed Turn me to fire Black rose in the vein Shine in your eye Please Don’t lay me down
""Please don't lay me down under the rocks where i'm found, my face in the ground, hope for the fathers and sons" Something about this line really hits me. I have had a life of feeling forgotten or treated as an afterthought. A lot of that went away after I had my 3 sons. but ill be damned if I feel like I am letting them down all the time. i hurt and I am stricken with guilt and feel like I will never be able to do enough for them in the world so they don't have to suffer like I did. I don't want them to forget their worth. I don't want them to feel like i do. They are better than me and I don't ever want them to feel like are inadequate. This line makes me feel like I am doing it right. I am doing something good and better for them. But it hurts to feel that way too. Thank you for the beautiful song. the line probably in not meant to convey this message, but that is the beauty of art. I can interpret it how I want to, for the good or the bad. Art is subjective.
This is awesome! It's so sweet seeing John with his daughter.. heartwarming and gives you a sense of connection and familiarity with the band Love the song, love the video, and in love with Sebastian's drum kit Keep it up guys! Can't wait for the rest of the album
This may be the last stairway to heaven moment I have again with music. Black birds on the bed. Baizley folding his arms singing like a sailor. He knows it’s good.
I listened to this song all the time while I stayed in the hospital with my son. It really helped me to go through those hard times. Gave me hope to carry on.
Man, I just discovered you guys about a month ago after hearing 'Shock Me' on XM, so I figured I'd check you guys out, after hearing all the Mastodon comparisons. I went and bought Purple that next day and within that month, it has literally become one of my favorite albums (and I have a lot of favorite albums.) It has such an uplifting essence to it. This song, in particular, is one of the most inpsirational songs I've ever heard. It's one of those albums that you can put on and actually get lost in, and for me, it's one of those that tell you that no matter what's goin on, it's good to be alive and breathing. A life-affirming album. So stoked to see ya in Columbus next week!
Ever heard a song & had one of those uplifting and enlightening moments? Well, I just had now. This song is epic and grand. The way they put their passion into this track is amazing. Reminds a little of 'And Justice For All' era riffs meets Mastodon. Classic!
I will say this Baroness, really looking forward to the new album. But also I have mad respect for you guys. You guys are taking the time to respond to UA-cam video comments. Honestly much love from Canada, so glad you guys all survived the bus crash and continue to make music. I hope one day to meet at least one of you guys and personally thank you for being humble and making good music
I don't keep up with rock or metal at all, I'm a hip hop head but I just barely found this band and they really caught my attention. Such genius melodies, and the vocals are always on point
You're in for a treat. Baroness is an outstanding band, and I went to high school with one of the founding members. We were even on the same wrestling team. It's so cool to see them touring internationally now.
When I called on my nursemaid Come sit by my side But she cuts through my rib cage Pushes the pills deep in my eyes ... The taste was much sweeter Than chlorine and wine And my doctor is unable To cut through the cable that leads to my mind ... Please, don't let me go Under the rock where I found My place in the crowd Hope for the fathers and sons ... Black birds on the bed Turning to fire Black birds in the day Shining a ray ... Please, don't let me go
My friends and I were just asking is there still great heartfelt music out there, poof here it is. Great to see people making music because they feel they have to, not to "chart"or as some cash grab. You think DIo was like "and then I will sing about a temple of the king, you know cause that's what the kids want" ...no. Make music because it leads you to make that particular music. Yes, it will change as you change, and yes some people will not like it. F**k em, good music from the heart will always stand on it's own. Baroness seems to get that.
I had been not listening to metal for quite a long time, 5 or 6 years, just got bored at some point. But you guys are awesome, I´m not a metal head anymore but definitely a big fan your music. It has so much heart on it.

Wow, I just discovered you guys from reading an article on Blabbermouth and how James Hetfield called John after the bus accident. This is the first video I clicked on when I typed you guys in on youtube after reading that article and I am somewhat speechless about the emotions this song has put me through. I actually feel ashamed and embarrassed to not have heard you guys before. Theres certain songs that hit a nerve that are unexplainable and this is one of those songs and Im just so happy to have heard this and discovered you guys. Thank you guys for this song, you have a new fan and I just looked up your tour dates and am super bummed that you guys were here a couple days ago in Chicago and I just discovered you minutes ago. Next time, Cheers

Perfect! I'm glad you had a lasting memory with a person dear to you. Music is powerful man. Thank you for sharing.
Bless you, I'm glad you were able to do that. Life is so difficult, we all walk the tightrope. Sending love to all

This is…. one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
Just heard it for the first time, I have to agree. Right time, right place. Smack in the middle.
This song helped me through such a dark period having to face 4 years in prison. I discovered Baroness late one night when I couldn't sleep and I was in my head. This song came on an underground radio station. I was stuck and I silently cried while surrounded by bunks of sleeping women. @@robblakley5805 Thank you for sharing that. I am still clean going on 5 years life has blessed me beyond belief!
@@Prophias Thank you so much!
You’re awesome. They are so uplifting. Helped me so much as well...
I feel like a idiot posting this after reading some of the other comments, but...
I just got engaged and bought my first house. Stressing a little bit. You guys and a sixer of fat tire are really helping out.
Please keep making this beautiful noise.
If any fan complains about the evolution of this band, it will warrant a swift dropkick to the groin. This shit is incredible.
+Princegweedo Amen sista!
+Princegweedo I love Baroness's new stuff. I don't like Mastodon's new stuff as much though. "Crack the Skye" is the best flavor of Mastodon and has aged perfectly.
+LadderOfTheGeese Agree with that. Crack the Skye was so good I honestly didn't expect them to be able to repeat how good it was.
+Tingle Triggers I think that they actually realized it themselves, Crack the Skye was kind of the culmination for their metal career, so after that they just started having fun with their next records.

The ending with everyone singing is the best thing ever. You can feel the passion. Just unbelievable.
It reminds me of Queen, which I think inspired the name of the band. Big Bohemian Rhapsody vibes.
Correct!
@@Grymgar Lol, I was exactly thinking that and one second later clicked on your random comment...
7 years later this is one of my favorite songs ever written. love you guys!
Jesus. 7 years. It seems like yesterday to me but this might as well be a lifetime for some folks.
I think Baroness have written their very own Bohemian Rhapsody with this one. Awesome music
+Ray Jackson YES YES YES! That's what I've been telling people. This song is so powerful! It's what good really good metal is all about.
+Ray Jackson It feels like it's far beyond metal, far beyond genres. I mean, I'm a metalhead, but this... this is special. I shouldn't write much more, I am totally mindblown :D
+Hubert Świtek that said, there's not much to add. This song is one of the Baroness' Greatest Fucking Hits
+The Internet Killed Music I agree with the OP. Plus your name is super edgy.
+The Internet Killed Music that's funny you're saying that under a music video for a SONG on UA-cam, which, as far as I'm concerned is an INTERNET website
LOL
This song came out just before my grandmother passed away, and as much as I love this song, it's always going to remind me of her. I'm thankful for that.
She lived to be 91, had one daughter, and three grand-kids.
Baroness, thank you for this beautiful song.
Mimi, thank you for everything. I love you.
I feel like a neanderthal watching a shuttle launch or something to that degree.
+Dirty Birdy This is perhaps the greatest possible comparison to how I felt, ever.
+Dirty Birdy ...thats fuckin profound...you nailed the feelin for me as well man
+Dirty Birdy NAILED IT!
hahaha
Dirty Birdy nice analogy!! Very much like that yes
My buddy introduced me to Baroness around the time Purple released..I was instantly hooked. Especially this song. Tragically, he was a very troubled soul and took his life a few years later. His birthday was yesterday...this one's for you Chad ❤️
I can‘t believe I have only discovered @Baroness now. But I am so happy about it. This is a masterpiece.
I've probably commented like 50 times on this videos. It's the only thing that keeps me alive sometimes
This is my first listen of this band (recommended by Jesse Leach), didn't think I would sit here for the whole 6:50 but I did... Was really captured by it, such an interesting song, taking so many turns I wasn't expecting. No one will probably read this but still, I'm definitely going to look into more of this band... good stuff.
+Hearty Oatmeal Yes is a great song, my only criticism was about the mastering and i know that few people cares about that.Cheers.
😊
OH... my wish is that someone would remaster this whole album.. it's amazing and needs to be sonically improved
Damn it’s 23 now. And I’m just discovered Baroness. Crazy stuff
The vocal harmonies at the end of the song makes my hair stand on end.
Baroness, still as amazing today as First & Second.
+Zidders Roofurry Sadly the mix and the mastering in this album is bad, the digital clipping is audible and the dymamic range is overcompressed.
+Javier Di Maio ass
shilohschmendrick Thanks.
+Javier Di Maio ass
+Zidders Roofurry you don't need to "prove" any1 saying "there aren't any great songs being written anymore", that there is good writing... that should already be 100% clear for most... the way I see it is, if you truly think like that then your just not listening good music and that's all lol...
Listening to this in 2024. Anyone?
Surely, always
absolutely!
Listen to it at least a couple times a year since it came out (Purple album that is) Chlorine and Wine on the other hand, several times a month probably lol

Baroness is a gust of wind for me. Sails draped low, compass adrift. They lit a fire. Good fucking art. Much appreciation to them.
A co-worker told me to listen to this song on my break. 1st time ever hearing Baroness.......simply amazing!
What an Epic song... I'm hooked!
This song means a lot to many people, me included. I just have to say thank you for the music.
This is perfect music. Best six minutes fifty I've spent all month.
Have been recently diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma...i will tell you that this song and Id do anything are two of the big songs on my list when i do chemo ...they hit hard
Who are the 67 people who gave this a thumbs down? Sweet mother of mercy - this is good stuff!
Exactly 100 more 2 years later... some people are the big dumb, beyond help.
Bc so people have bad taste in music
Sebastian on the drums, drums for his life!
The rest of the Band sing for their lifes:

Greatest Baroness song.
this song is so good, you can actually smell chlorine and wine when you listen to it. the end with all of them in the soundbooth singing is pretty emotional to me for some reason
I struggle with mental illness. This song helps me cry and release.
After listening to this song for the thousandth time I heard the lyric
"I’d never felt so uncomfortably numb
Here by your side"
What a brilliant little nod to the influences of the past.
Could you explain?
Explain what?
Which influences... I'm at a loss xD
Pink Floyd. Comfortably Numb.
I was about to say, I heard some Floydesque influence in the beginning..
I saw Baroness in Buffalo last summer, amazing show. I got front row and Pete noticed that I was jammin the whole time and actually came right up to me and began playing the guitar solo directly in front of me, as if to play just for me. John's voice is just next level. Absolutely love this entire album.
When I called on my nursemaid
Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my ribcage
And pushes the pills deep in my eyes
The taste was much sweeter
Than chlorine and wine
And my doctor’s unable
To cut through cable that leads to my mind
In spite of the winter
There’s ways to keep warm
Whatever you give me
Please know that I’ll ask you for more
The day I stopped swimming
And came out of the tide
I’d never felt so uncomfortably dumb
Here by your side
Black rose on the bed
Turn me to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
Under the rocks where I found
My place in the ground
A home for the fathers and sons
Black rose on the bed
Turn me to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
You can't cross your arms while you're singing, it looks too funny. Love it.
+DeterminedGoat Tried it recording earlier...it feels funny too
Dirty Birdy
I'll bet haha
nervous excitement.
Actually, no. It's due to the injuries he sustained in a bus accident shortly before they recorded this. He was still a little sore while singing.
Ah shit. Hopefully there's no lingering discomfort.
The part when all you singing togheter is AMAZING! Love this song 3
Baroness are their own genre of music
""Please don't lay me down under the rocks where i'm found, my face in the ground, hope for the fathers and sons"
Something about this line really hits me. I have had a life of feeling forgotten or treated as an afterthought. Just discovered Baroness about a week ago and I'm now firmly in the obsession stage. The ending minute or so of this song gives me chills every time.
The ending to Kerosene is my favorite climax from any of their songs.

What a masterpiece coming out of pain 😢❤
I can't even explain the gamut of emotions that this band's songs invoke. The soundscapes they create are brilliant. These guys are on another level.
This is one of those songs I can never play loud enough.
If you like these guys I also recommend Red Fang and Black Tusk both are also part of the Georgia sludge/stoner metal scenes and have similar sounds.
I lived in Savannah when they were first getting started
Manny Schewitz Those must have been some cool small gigs to go to when the first started.
They were. I also went to high school with Summer, their original bassist.
Thank you Baroness for proving once again that rock is not dead.
Between this and Intronaut, it's gonna be one glorious end of the year for new music. Super stoked for this.
Epic!! When everyone is singing in unison 🤘🙏❤
fast becoming one of my favourite bands. unreal tune
Purple is their masterpiece
Your music is pure, authentic and comes from the heart. Outstanding video
Years later coming back purple. Great job dudes
I can't wait for this album! Thank you Baroness. This song has hit me.Right to the core.
Sweet!!!! Excellent Job!! The flower was crushed by a boot but it not only survived but grew stronger! Long life to Baroness!!!
When I called on my nursemaid
Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my rib cage
Pushes the pills deep in my eyes
...
The taste was much sweeter
Than chlorine and wine
And my doctor is unable
To cut through the cable that leads to my mind
...
In spite of the winter
There's ways to keep warm
Whatever you give me
Please know that I'm asking for more
...
The day I stopped swiming
Came out of the dark
I've never felt so uncomfortably numb
Here by your side
...
Black birds on the bed
Turning to fire
Black birds in the day
Shining a ray
...
Please, don't let me go
Under the rock where I found
My place in the crowd
Hope for the fathers and sons
...
Black birds on the bed
Turning to fire
Black birds in the day
Shining a ray
...
Please, don't let me go
My friends and I were just asking is there still great heartfelt music out there, poof here it is.
2:10 almost sounds like shine on you crazy diamond
I immediately fell in love with Baroness the minute James Hetfield put this album on his 'top 10 things that happened in 2015' and posted it on fb
I just don't want the song, or video to end my goodness it's so moving!!! REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT.
I fucking love how I instantly got the 'OMG OMG THE NEW BARONESS SONG IS HERE' feeling. Feels right at home brothers.
I had been not listening to metal for quite a long time, 5 or 6 years, just got bored at some point. But you guys are awesome, I´m not a metal head anymore but definitely a big fan your music. It has so much heart on it.
This is one of those perfect songs, that you wish it would keep playing.
2:09 feels like "shine on you crazy diamond"
How could anyone not like this?
Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it
YES
There is music, and there is music. This is music.
Thank you for this. I really cant explain how much I needed this song in my life. Now a great video for it!
One of my favorite songs.period. every emotion conveyed about the bus is felt . Stands the hair on my arms up
December 18 cannot come fast enough!
This is why Baroness are one of the top bands playing today. Brillant.

Quienes son los 83 que no saben apreciar una obra de arte ?
This has become an unofficial christmas anthem for me.
When I called on my nursemaid
Come sit by my side
But she cuts through my ribcage
And pushes the pills deep in my eyes
The taste was much sweeter
Than chlorine and wine
And my doctor’s unable
To cut through the cable
That leads to my mind
In spite of the winter
There’s ways to keep warm
Whatever you give me
Please know that I’ll ask you for more
The day I stopped swimming
And came out of the tide
I’d never felt so uncomfortably numb
Here by your side
Black rose on the bed
Turn me to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
Under the rocks where I found
My place in the ground
A home for the fathers and sons
Black rose on the bed
Turn me to fire
Black rose in the vein
Shine in your eye
Please
Don’t lay me down
I remember when Red Album was on a constant roll back in the days. Years after i came back to Baroness, and it was Chlorine & Wine. I love this song.
Awesome Bru, come. Sit by the fire longer
?
@@gconley12345 what a good band. I still listen to this very song whenever I can. Just now again, in peaceful solitude by a good fire.
Such an emotional rollercoaster, masterpiece ‼️
