My pulse does the same, sometimes even more "drastically". I was told that it is Normal so EAR SPA RELAXATION, I wouldn't think about it anymore. Our bodies are not robots, but bodies.
He could take my pulse anytime😉 he really does put your mind at ease by normalising these horrible ectopics makes them less scary if you're able to understand them and he explains it in such a way that I don't worry about mine at all now... ❤️
I have figured out over the past few months that my fluttering or skipped beats happen when i am tired or when I move or position myself in different positions. I have had a great deal of anxiety over these skipped beats. I have seen cardiologists and has tests ran. No one can tell me why I have these issues. There seems to be allot of people with these issues but no real reassurance or feedback from the medical community. I have been watching your videos for a few months and want to say thank you for what you are doing. You have given people, many of which have anxiety like me, reassurance that it is OK. Taking the time to give people peace of mind is truly wonderful. Thank you.
Dustin Montgomery mine mainly happens in bed. Never happened until 1 year ago. Was sitting down and boom felt my heart jump and then race. Since then i get these random pvc. Mainly at night. When laying down.

I have been suffering from ectopic heart beats for more than 20 years now. I went to see a cardiologist when I first experienced them but they they nether found anything so I've have to learn to live with them. Sometimes they can be very frightening and come on strong and they can take your breath away. It happens more when I'm relaxed and when I'm leaning forward. I didn't relise what they were until I started watching your UA-cam video channel. Thank you so much Dr.
Do u practice breathing exercise......?sir.....yes deep and slow breathing exercise works....just patience and faith is required... practice for more than 30 min/day
I've read about this too that also the ED staff will just send you home with anxiety med and tell you to relax. My EP nurse told me to just forget about them. There's nothing he can do for me. Yeah, easy for someone to say that doesn't get them, correct ?
@@chass5438 I had the quick ECG done at my local practice twice, and of course the beats weren't happening at the time so was told to go home and relax. Not very helpful! Finally was having a bad episode two weeks ago and paramedics caught my heart going 3 times as fast as it should and managed to get print outs of all the evidence. Was taken to A&E and was treated well, and now on beta blockers and blood thinners with possibility of a heart restart in the future (I forget the medical terminology now). Seems you have to prove you are struggling before they will do anything!
I guess most of us have the same thing in common here. Which leads us in his videos. After watching most of his videos this one clearly explains what I’m feeling. When laying in bed getting ready to sleep in sympathetic with all the adrenaline from hard days work and when parasympathetic kicks in. Such a comfort finding someone who can explains what troubles us inside. I hope more people hear his words to clear their worries and find relief. My father, a GP and cardiologist specialist passed away a couple years back after a 2 year pancreatic cancer battle. I was diagnosed with ectopics shortly before he passed, his advice was smoking and caffeine cessation, which helped partially. A recent flare up has brought me to your channel. I have been watching your channcel for a number of months. Its only now that i have been told i have ectopic heart beats. Not one of the doctors have ever made mention of posture or even any of the info your giving out on heart health. So thankful.
I have ectopics. I find when I straighten my shoulders back, they are somewhat relieved. I have a tendency to hunch forward probably from years of looking at cell phones and tablets Etc. Thanks for all your hard work and information love your videos
I notice this too. I knit most evenings then when i stop, stand up to go to bed the ectopics start. If I walk a round for a few minutes and stretch my arms up and back they settle down. It’s reassuring that you can physically stop them.
For me personally, my ectopic beats were completely cured once I went to a chiropractor!! Please go consult with a chiropractor, get adjusted and get posture exercises. This will reduce the inflammation over time and within a couple of months, you should feel completely normal. The vagus nerve is something that most people don’t know about and it actually holds so much power over the body. Keep that vagus nerve healthy!
Omggg your so right it def stopped mines but when I stop getting adjusted I would get occasional pvcs but not like how I had them before going to a chiropractor I agree 100%
@@tsuperfly100 Yup! I'm a Gen-Z, and a lot of my life with technology has consisted of my body being hunched over (whether it is standing up, sitting on a chair, laying on a bed, etc.). I now have a standing desk (which moves up and down), and ergonomic chair (which keeps my back and neck straight), and I do exercises to maintain my posture every day. I go to chiropractor occasionally to get aligned. Getting palpitations / ectopic beats was my body's way of telling me that I needed to change my lifestyle, else my body would continue to deteriorate. Additionally, I do want to mention that ectopic beats don't happen for everyone who has a bad posture. The consequences for a bad posture are situational based off of the person's body. HOWEVER. Everyone who has a bad posture, will have a shorter life-span, because we tend to crush our organs with all of the pressure from our upper back / chest. And many people don't realize that in order to increase our life-span, we must keep a straight posture. It really is more important than people think.
Wow thanks for all that information I’m a nail tech for over 13 years and it requires me hunch over for hours. I am def going to get a better chair. And work on my posture. Also I have an appointment next week Thursday for the chiropractor. Everything u stated is so true!!!!! Keep preaching it many people needs to hear this.

This guy is a god send. You almost explained mine to a tee when moving positions. I will get them bad when I get real mad over anything. Seems like the adrenaline sets them off. Same with working out. If I'm calm which is rare with anxiety disorders. But if I'm calm I don't have them as much. I also get them when I raise my arms above my head especially reaching for something or bending doen or over for anything I will set them off. I'm so relieved to hear Im not the only one getting very simular heart beats.
This sounds so much like me. When I bend, reach for anything. I have issues with my neck from bad posture too and notice if I move my neck a certain way, it'll do it.
Same here. Every time I’ve had svt I was either bending over or lifting my arms. When I’ve mentioned this to my dr they didn’t correlate it, but it’s interesting we’ve all noticed this. I’ve also had ectopic beats from turning my head or bending my neck.
@@jessicallee I don't even know if it's ectopic or palpitations. I honestly think that's it though. I've had ekgs in hospitals so far and they say it's fine. But I do mention how I move my neck and arms a certain way and it does it. Also I noticed when I sit down sometimes it does it too. Nobody seems to want to explain it to us except this video.
Dear Dr Gupta, your videos are a ray of sunlight for anxious people with ectopic beats. I have a history of heart condition, replacing of aortic valve and implantation of pacemaker to stop bradi taqui that triggered atrial fibrilation. Also I had PC surgery in 1/2018 and are on ADT which makes everything worse. Last october I had mild COVID but a few months later I started having this ectopic nightmare and it got on my nerves. At night I get bigeminy rithm and it really upsets me and creates a little discomfort. During daytime if I do not sit too long I exercise a lot and feel fantastic for a 75 year old, can run, play tennis no symptoms no discomfort. Listening to your description I feel much more comforted, I think I am a vagal type, started a diet to loose excess 10 kilos and eating basically vegetarian, fruit only during the morning, and combining food to grant light and fast digestion. I will let you kn ow how it goes and thanks for being a HEALER
Wow! this was seven years ago posted and today after I have been suffering from this for 20 years someone just explains it so well and precise. Thank you that puts it all in perspective and brings reassurance. I have found that stretching any time of day and any posture - like when you awake in the morning, a good old stretch with arms up etc, for about 15 seconds, makes the ectopics stop. It's amazing to see the heart suddenly register back to normal pulse on the pulseometer.
You have explained every symptom I've been having! Thank you soooo much! I have visited several doctors, one of which was a cardiologist, and no one has explained it. I was just told, "It's normal for your body." By not explaining what was happening I would be scared and confused...and distrusting of my physicians' advice. Friends, I’ve gotten a lot of relief by starting my day with 1/2-1hr of prayer (may be repetitive, that’s okay. Just enjoy being with God and feeling the grace) taking magnesium at bedtime, and taking CBD. CBD is wonderful. Singing also helps (maybe it regulates our breathing?) seriously, try it!
Bending over, taking a seat, and lying in bed frequently give me ectopics. This video helps me to feel better about that. I also notice more palpitations when I am scared (public speaking, flying, etc.), or if I overeat or experience reflux. Thank you for the explanation. It helps!
I have gotten significant relief from lying down and inhaling for 5 seconds...holding for 5 seconds...exhaling for 5 seconds...and then holding for 5 seconds. Sometimes at first they get worse, but then...usually after at least 5 minutes of steadily doing this...they calm down considerably or disappear. I've even gotten some relief from doing it standing up when I'm out and about. As I get more relaxed, I sometimes end up doing 6-6-6-6 seconds. It doesn't always work, but often does. I tried just 5 seconds inhaling and 5 seconds exhaling but it had little to no effect. Sharing in case anyone wants to try it. Thanks Sanjay for your videos. I'm sure a lot of people have gotten some relief simply from your often reassuring information and the friendly manner in which you share it. Be well. ;~)

Thank you for clear and simple explanation on this topic. I have ectopic heartbeats when lying on both left and right side, when lying down. I feel better lying on the right side with my arm streched out, on top of my left side of my body. The chest opens up and the ectopic heartbeats stop and I fall asleep easily. I have seen some of your videos and they are exceptionally clear and easy to understand, please keep up the good work.
6:28 - thank you for being the first cardiologist to not dismiss that as being on one’s head and that we just notice it more. This is *precisely* what happens to me: laying down, I go from under 1 ectopic a minute to 4 per minute (as measured by a tracker).
All makes sense now. I always thought my symptoms have to do with the nervous system. Your explanations have taken the fear out of me. Thank you so very much. I wish other doctors would explain things in this way.
I tend to get a palpitation if I’m leaning forward and take a big breath. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the different between acid and a palpitation as well.
This is so relaxing to hear Ive been studying the vagus nerve because Ive experienced these beats for over 5 years now and after stress echos and ekgs and a cardiologist saying they were “stress induced arrhythmias”. I started researching because putting my boys to bed at night I would get these continuous flutters however when I would sit up they would stop. Coincidentally they were the same feelings I would get on a daily basis as well. I’m convinced that I get these day and night. The vagus nerve is simply amazing. However with anxiety and panic all of my life it can be scary. Thank you for this. I appreciate you being so open with your knowledge!

I have been to 2 different cardiologist who have been very vague and have not helped put my worry to rest at all.. these videos have given me some relief.
I suffer with ectopics. I’ve just recently started watching your videos and they are very informative and reassuring. You talk about autonomic nervous system. I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia which is thought to be autonomic nervous system dysfunction. I’m sure it’s all related now.

I was so worried about these… I’m 27 and feel them often especially when I am working (I sit down to work) and then have to go up and down stairs quickly and then when I’m going to bed. I get so scared but I’ve done EKG and stress tests before and nothing has shown strange. You really are helping me understand these strange sensations!

I've developed these over the past six months due to some type of medical issue none of the doctors I've seen can figure out. This is insane and amazing! I have been telling people for the last few years that it seems like certain positions, like sitting or bending forward, bring on the ectopic heart beats for me. They have just looked at me like I was crazy and said it is normal and don't worry about it. I am 100% a WHY person. I cannot tell you how much this is helping me! Thank you so much!
I have vagal ectopic episodes that predominantly occur at night, and YES, it is postural! I have, by sheer fluke, found a strategy that stops the palpitations: when it begins, I get up, move and walk around, including going up and down stairs, drink some cold water, then stretch out again on my back with my head propped up. I have refused to take daily medications but do have some in my medicine cabinet if the palpitations do not subside after awhile. My cardiologist calls this the ‘pill in the pocket’ method. I’m satisfied with my own way of dealing with my heart issues, as I feel more responsible and in charge of my own body. I definitely agree with you Dr Gupta’s philosophy of not worrying about or fearing the when of death. Thank you for your generous and honest videos.
Thank you for reminding me of many things I learned many years ago when I had debilitating anxiety and panic attacks! Since Covid Vax’s and sick with it, it has all hit me hard, so glad I found you!
I can add stomach distension to the list of vagal triggers. Unless I take the time (and remember) to burp freely after a meal, particularly a large one, I can often bring on ectopic beats. Also, and this is just my experience, I can sleep and relax, with far fewer palpitations (the sensation that the heart is thumping and bumping, or just beating extra forcefully), on my right side. Sleeping on my back is also good, but it causes more aerophagia on a CPAP machine. Left side sleeping is only possible for me when my heart has been calm all day, and almost always to turn over onto it during the sleep cycle.
I’ve been diagnosed with pots recently, and have had a increase ectopics it with irregular beats/pvcs. It is very dustressing when happening lying down . And have found comfort in finding your channel.
I have the vagal ectopics when getting bloated after food. Especially if laying down in combination to that. However, I also get ectopics after exercise, not sure if that might be due to food in the stomach or an imbalance in sympathetic / para sympathetic nerve. Sleeping with a bloated stomach is very difficult as the frequency and strength of the ectopics seems to increase. The best way to describe it is like a "murr-murr" feeling in the heart, followed by a noticeable break and then a hard beat and couple beats less harder beats to follow. Eventually, when getting woken up every 10, 20 to 30 minutes by these for a couple hours while trying to fall a sleep it will cause anxiety due to sleep deprivation (after many days) as well as anxiety because you get worried of what might be wrong with the heart. As long as the ectopics are mild or rather, as long as the blood pressure is not too high while the ectopics occur I barely notice them. But after a big meal or if getting anxious when going to bed, the ectopics might come with a slight adrenaline rush.. this is what causes the anxiety and palpitations to spike. Eventually it can trigger the fight of flight response and the heart will start racing... and you panic and think you're getting a heart attack. I have raised the head of the bed and I think it helps slightly but I also wake up coughing a bit fluid sometimes, which makes me suspect a hiatal hernia being one of the causes... This started 10 months ago when I got burned out from stress (still not recovered) and have never happened before in my life. I can add that I always feel better when standing up or walking and worse when sitting or laying down. Which further makes me suspect reflux or hiatus hernia.. especially an imbalance in the gut flora / stomach acidity, has to be..

I hardly ever got them very bad when I could exercise but now that my chronic pain will not let me exercise they’ve gotten much worse. Very curious. Thank you for the information. I occasionally get ectopics more when lying in bed with a couple of pillows behind my back. I then sit up straight and they usually go away. But it occurs mainly when leaning over a snooker or pool table and doing exercise. I have also had palpitations that have started this way. I find that pulling my shoulders back helps to lower heart rate and frequency of ectopics. It's reassuring to know that other people get these ectopics.
Thanking you. I am 69yr female. When my 30s wore holter monitor. Kept diary. Food, time of day etc. Determined sympathetic heart rhythm affected by caffeine which can drive adrenal run or gun response. That was very helpful.
I know this is an old video, but I want you to know how much you've helped me with my concerns about my palpitations and how to deal with them. I had myself so stressed about them, I was stressed going to bed (and so experienced them frequently). Now I get them infrequently, if at all, and I have to believe it's because of your videos explaining what was going on.
Thank you so much. My palpitations are I get PVCs and a pause.. when you palpate or listen, it seems like I miss a beat. But I feel like my heart is beating hard or feels like extra beat. Anyway it’s distracting, uncomfortable and disturbing too. For me it started during peri menopause and also when started working night shift. Mine is worse when I am too full or need to go to the bathroom and also when I am anxious. It comes and go. Hard to tell what helps or what not. Sometimes deep breathing helps. Sometimes nothing helps. I tried ignoring like you said in one of your videos, that helps too. But sometimes it’s hard to ignore. This helped me so much! Along with video where you speak about fear and ectopic beats. I was never sensitive to these until I started having heart palpitations in perimenopause. After getting my hormones help. I still felt these once in a while at the end of day when I would get in bed mostly laying on my left side. Helping me to understand this means so much to me. Dr Gupta you are my hero because you explain all these different issues. The medical doctors at the hospital do not have the time to go into the details of the patients diagnosis. My GP is very good at listening to me when I need reassurance with my diagnosis of AF with Factor 5 Leiden, so i am on anti coagulant therapy but it is causing me real problems with breathlessness. For people suffering from ectopic, life style does cause ectopics. Here are my triggers: Mint and anything with mint even toothpastes, Green tea, the smell of gasoline, STRESS and thinking too much, Spicy and acidic food.

I now understand how autonomic issues (heart rate falling to 30 bpm and then subsequent ectopics and low BP upon standing) usually only happen when I’m sitting in particular types of chairs. It made no sense! It’s all about the pressure I’m creating on the inside. I suspected that, but needed some voice of knowledge to get me to the how of it all. Thank you for doing what you do. I've had two trips to the doctor and one in A&E recently and nobody seems to understand the part where I say if I lie on my left they are worse. I found lying on my back was bad too. Only lying on my right would stop them eventually. It's great to hear you talk about this.
I agree, when I am in bed or after meals, I get PACs a lot. I sleep inclined somewhat in a recliner and it helps a lot. I can't lie down flat hardly as my heart really skips a lot that way. Sugary foods, soft drinks and caffein seem to make it worse. After eating is worse also. I don't have the racing, just the skipping. Sometimes every third beat. I take Coreg 6.25 1X/day which helps a lot. MY BPM is usually under 60 and < 50 at night. Your videos are extremely helpful.
You don't know how spot on you are. I tried to tell my doctor that when I was laying on my left and got up quickly I went into AFIB, the next time was went I leaned forward to give my german shepard a kiss on the head. They brushed it off and didn't listen. I have Ectopic heartbeats several times a day...
I get them when I walk too fast, exercise, and am stressed AND when I'm having anxiety. I get them at night I think because my anxiety is higher, and I'm afraid I'm going to have them, so I do. Ugh.
I first became aware of my ectopic heartbeats when I was 21. Since then, they come in spells - some lasting a few minutes and others a few days.When it is really bad, it feels like my heart skips half a dozen or more beats a minute. Freaked my wife out when she felt my pulse. Saw doctors a few times over the years and none of them seemed particularly concerned about it. One did refer me to the cardio dept in the hospital. They wired me up but everything was fine. That's because I wasn't having one of my bouts. I only found out about ectopic heartbeats a few years ago when a doctor finally told me what I had. I can't say I'm totally relaxed about having them but I no longer worry as I know it will pass. I have never let it stop me from doing anything, like playing sports. Including more adventurous activities like hanggliding and scuba diving. I'm now 70 years old and still fit. I hope this helps ease a few minds.
@@RyanLS I'm doing amazing! I found out I'm estrogen dominant and that I have autoimmune disease (hashimoto's and celiac) both aggravated and made worse by not having enough progesterone! Since starting hormone replacement they are 98% gone!

Man i was panicked about this problem! I thought i was going to have a heart attack at 23 until I listened to your vids on this subject. Its funny after learning that it wasn’t really a big deal they almost went away within 10 minutes probably because my anxiety level went down and I calmed down. I was seriously about to go to the hospital when it happened and i dont have insurance so that would have been a huge blow to my bank account for no reason. I was looking into irregular heartbeat and the results where making me panic more but the symptoms weren’t quite the same as i had but your vids match exactly how it feels so im 99.999% sure that this is the problem. Dr Gupta. I know this video is four years old but I only recently discovered you. I have a heart and BP that suddenly go wild and often end up for ecgs at the emergency. Of course nothing wrong and I feel silly. I also get ectopics mostly at night so will follow your tip of raising the bed. Checkup with cardiologist next week but thanks for your wonderfully clear explanations - they are really reassuring. At 77 my erratic heart and BP are a bit concerning. Lifting the head of the bed works for me. I used to use many pillows but then discovered a GERD wedge shaped pillow. Helps immensely with ectopics at bedtime!

Thank you for this video!!! This is me...with anxiety i.e., getting ready for work, and sometimes while squatting. I've seen 5 cardiologists over the past almost 25 yrs and they all look at me like i have grown an extra head! My quality of life was at stake! I've noticed that when my heart is extra sensitive to certain stimuli, is when it occurs more frequently. I feel female hormonal fluctuations play a huge role as well. I went off both of my meds, metoprolol at night and diltiazem in the am and I feel better. They make no difference in the frequency of my symptoms. I do everything I can to pull myself back from stressful situations, including a recent job change which has made a world of difference. I could not find your breathing exercise, I am very interested to see it. Your videos have made a world of difference in my life. Thank you so much!!!
I get them bad when I bend over picking up things😢 so happy I found this guy. I get bad panic attacks and my cardiologist and primary think it's all in my bed
7:18 yes! this is me! I get skipped or “extra” beats 90% of the time laying down for bed, and of those almost always on my left side, and only occasionally on my back. Never on my right side. If I know I’m tired or anxious, or had a stressful day, I won’t even attempt laying down on my left side or back.

I have figured out over the past few months that my fluttering or skipped beats happen when i am tired or when I move or position myself in different positions. I have had a great deal of anxiety over these skipped beats. I have seen cardiologists and has tests ran. No one can tell me why I have these issues. There seems to be allot of people with these issues but no real reassurance or feedback from the medical community. I have been watching your videos for a few months and want to say thank you for what you are doing. You have given people, many of which have anxiety like me, reassurance that it is OK. Taking the time to give people peace of mind is truly wonderful. Thank you.
Dustin Montgomery mine mainly happens in bed. Never happened until 1 year ago. Was sitting down and boom felt my heart jump and then race. Since then i get these random pvc. Mainly at night. When laying down.

I have been suffering from ectopic heart beats for more than 20 years now. I went to see a cardiologist when I first experienced them but they they nether found anything so I've have to learn to live with them. Sometimes they can be very frightening and come on strong and they can take your breath away. It happens more when I'm relaxed and when I'm leaning forward. I didn't relise what they were until I started watching your UA-cam video channel. Thank you so much Dr.

I've read about this too that also the ED staff will just send you home with anxiety med and tell you to relax. My EP nurse told me to just forget about them. There's nothing he can do for me. Yeah, easy for someone to say that doesn't get them, correct ?
@@chass5438 I had the quick ECG done at my local practice twice, and of course the beats weren't happening at the time so was told to go home and relax. Not very helpful! Finally was having a bad episode two weeks ago and paramedics caught my heart going 3 times as fast as it should and managed to get print outs of all the evidence. Was taken to A&E and was treated well, and now on beta blockers and blood thinners with possibility of a heart restart in the future (I forget the medical terminology now). Seems you have to prove you are struggling before they will do anything!

I have been watching your channcel for a number of months. Its only now that i have been told i have ectopic heart beats. Not one of the doctors have ever made mention of posture or even any of the info your giving out on heart health.

I have ectopics. I find when I straighten my shoulders back, they are somewhat relieved. I have a tendency to hunch forward probably from years of looking at cell phones and tablets Etc. Thanks for all your hard work and information love your videos
I notice this too. I knit most evenings then when i stop, stand up to go to bed the ectopics start. If I walk a round for a few minutes and stretch my arms up and back they settle down. It’s reassuring that you can physically stop them.

For me personally, my ectopic beats were completely cured once I went to a chiropractor!! Please go consult with a chiropractor, get adjusted and get posture exercises. This will reduce the inflammation over time and within a couple of months, you should feel completely normal. The vagus nerve is something that most people don’t know about and it actually holds so much power over the body. Keep that vagus nerve healthy!
Omggg your so right it def stopped mines but when I stop getting adjusted I would get occasional pvcs but not like how I had them before going to a chiropractor I agree 100%
@@tsuperfly100 Yup! I'm a Gen-Z, and a lot of my life with technology has consisted of my body being hunched over (whether it is standing up, sitting on a chair, laying on a bed, etc.).
I now have a standing desk (which moves up and down), and ergonomic chair (which keeps my back and neck straight), and I do exercises to maintain my posture every day. I go to chiropractor occasionally to get aligned.
Getting palpitations / ectopic beats was my body's way of telling me that I needed to change my lifestyle, else my body would continue to deteriorate.
Additionally, I do want to mention that ectopic beats don't happen for everyone who has a bad posture. The consequences for a bad posture are situational based off of the person's body. HOWEVER. Everyone who has a bad posture, will have a shorter life-span, because we tend to crush our organs with all of the pressure from our upper back / chest. And many people don't realize that in order to increase our life-span, we must keep a straight posture. It really is more important than people think.

This guy is a god send. You almost explained mine to a tee when moving positions. I will get them bad when I get real mad over anything. Seems like the adrenaline sets them off. Same with working out. If I'm calm which is rare with anxiety disorders. But if I'm calm I don't have them as much. I also get them when I raise my arms above my head especially reaching for something or bending doen or over for anything I will set them off. I'm so relieved to hear Im not the only one getting very simular heart beats.

This sounds so much like me. When I bend, reach for anything. I have issues with my neck from bad posture too and notice if I move my neck a certain way, it'll do it.
Same here. Every time I’ve had svt I was either bending over or lifting my arms. When I’ve mentioned this to my dr they didn’t correlate it, but it’s interesting we’ve all noticed this. I’ve also had ectopic beats from turning my head or bending my neck.
@@jessicallee I don't even know if it's ectopic or palpitations. I honestly think that's it though. I've had ekgs in hospitals so far and they say it's fine. But I do mention how I move my neck and arms a certain way and it does it. Also I noticed when I sit down sometimes it does it too. Nobody seems to want to explain it to us except this video.

Dear Dr Gupta, your videos are a ray of sunlight for anxious people with ectopic beats. I have a history of heart condition, replacing of aortic valve and implantation of pacemaker to stop bradi taqui that triggered atrial fibrilation. Also I had PC surgery in 1/2018 and are on ADT which makes everything worse. Last october I had mild COVID but a few months later I started having this ectopic nightmare and it got on my nerves. At night I get bigeminy rithm and it really upsets me and creates a little discomfort. During daytime if I do not sit too long I exercise a lot and feel fantastic for a 75 year old, can run, play tennis no symptoms no discomfort. Listening to your description I feel much more comforted, I think I am a vagal type, started a diet to loose excess 10 kilos and eating basically vegetarian, fruit only during the morning, and combining food to grant light and fast digestion. I will let you kn ow how it goes and thanks for being a HEALER

- like when you awake in the morning, a good old stretch with arms up etc, for about 15 seconds, makes the ectopics stop. It's amazing to see the heart suddenly register back to normal pulse on the pulseometer.

I was just told, "It's normal for your body." By not explaining what was happening I would be scared and confused...and distrusting of my physicians' advice. Friends, I’ve gotten a lot of relief by starting my day with 1/2-1hr of prayer (may be repetitive, that’s okay. Just enjoy being with God and feeling the grace) taking magnesium at bedtime, and taking CBD. CBD is wonderful. Singing also helps (maybe it regulates our breathing?) seriously, try it!
Bending over, taking a seat, and lying in bed frequently give me ectopics. This video helps me to feel better about that. I also notice more palpitations when I am scared (public speaking, flying, etc.), or if I overeat or experience reflux. Thank you for the explanation. It helps!

I have gotten significant relief from lying down and inhaling for 5 seconds...holding for 5 seconds...exhaling for 5 seconds...and then holding for 5 seconds. Sometimes at first they get worse, but then...usually after at least 5 minutes of steadily doing this...they calm down considerably or disappear. I've even gotten some relief from doing it standing up when I'm out and about. As I get more relaxed, I sometimes end up doing 6-6-6-6 seconds. It doesn't always work, but often does. I tried just 5 seconds inhaling and 5 seconds exhaling but it had little to no effect. Sharing in case anyone wants to try it. Thanks Sanjay for your videos. I'm sure a lot of people have gotten some relief simply from your often reassuring information and the friendly manner in which you share it. Be well. ;~)

I feel better lying on the right side with my arm streched out, on top of my left side of my body. The chest opens up and the ectopic heartbeats stop and I fall asleep easily. I have seen some of your videos and they are exceptionally clear and easy to understand, please keep up the good work.
6:28 - thank you for being the first cardiologist to not dismiss that as being on one’s head and that we just notice it more. This is *precisely* what happens to me: laying down, I go from under 1 ectopic a minute to 4 per minute (as measured by a tracker).
All makes sense now. I always thought my symptoms have to do with the nervous system. Your explanations have taken the fear out of me. Thank you so very much. I wish other doctors would explain things in this way.
I tend to get a palpitation if I’m leaning forward and take a big breath. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the different between acid and a palpitation as well.

This is so relaxing to hear Ive been studying the vagus nerve because Ive experienced these beats for over 5 years now and after stress echos and ekgs and a cardiologist saying they were “stress induced arrhythmias”. I started researching because putting my boys to bed at night I would get these continuous flutters however when I would sit up they would stop. Coincidentally they were the same feelings I would get on a daily basis as well. I’m convinced that I get these day and night. The vagus nerve is simply amazing. However with anxiety and panic all of my life it can be scary. Thank you for this. I appreciate you being so open with your knowledge!

I can't thank you enough for your videos and your research on these ectopic heartbeats. I've developed these over the past six months due to some type of medical issue none of the doctors I've seen can figure out. I'm pretty sure it's from lyme disease from when I got bit by a few deer ticks while living in the state of Connecticut... Now I'm stationed in Hawaii and the doctors out here are clueless to lyme.

I have vagal ectopic episodes that predominantly occur at night, and YES, it is postural! I have, by sheer fluke, found a strategy that stops the palpitations: when it begins, I get up, move and walk around, including going up and down stairs, drink some cold water, then stretch out again on my back with my head propped up. I have refused to take daily medications but do have some in my medicine cabinet if the palpitations do not subside after awhile. My cardiologist calls this the ‘pill in the pocket’ method. I’m satisfied with my own way of dealing with my heart issues, as I feel more responsible and in charge of my own body. I definitely agree with you Dr Gupta’s philosophy of not worrying about or fearing the when of death. Thank you for your generous and honest videos.

I can add stomach distension to the list of vagal triggers. Unless I take the time (and remember) to burp freely after a meal, particularly a large one, I can often bring on ectopic beats. Also, and this is just my experience, I can sleep and relax, with far fewer palpitations (the sensation that the heart is thumping and bumping, or just beating extra forcefully), on my right side. Sleeping on my back is also good, but it causes more aerophagia on a CPAP machine. Left side sleeping is only possible for me when my heart has been calm all day, and almost always to turn over onto it during the sleep cycle.

I have the vagal ectopics when getting bloated after food. Especially if laying down in combination to that. However, I also get ectopics after exercise, not sure if that might be due to food in the stomach or an imbalance in sympathetic / para sympathetic nerve.
Sleeping with a bloated stomach is very difficult as the frequency and strength of the ectopics seems to increase. The best way to describe it is like a "murr-murr" feeling in the heart, followed by a noticeable break and then a hard beat and couple beats less harder beats to follow. Eventually, when getting woken up every 10, 20 to 30 minutes by these for a couple hours while trying to fall a sleep it will cause anxiety due to sleep deprivation (after many days) as well as anxiety because you get worried of what might be wrong with the heart.
As long as the ectopics are mild or rather, as long as the blood pressure is not too high while the ectopics occur I barely notice them. But after a big meal or if getting anxious when going to bed, the ectopics might come with a slight adrenaline rush.. this is what causes the anxiety and palpitations to spike. Eventually it can trigger the fight of flight response and the heart will start racing... and you panic and think you're getting a heart attack.
I have raised the head of the bed and I think it helps slightly but I also wake up coughing a bit fluid sometimes, which makes me suspect a hiatal hernia being one of the causes... This started 10 months ago when I got burned out from stress (still not recovered) and have never happened before in my life.
I can add that I always feel better when standing up or walking and worse when sitting or laying down. Which further makes me suspect reflux or hiatus hernia.. especially an imbalance in the gut flora / stomach acidity, has to be..

I hardly ever got them very bad when I could exercise but now that my chronic pain will not let me exercise they’ve gotten much worse. Very curious. Thank you for the information. I occasionally get ectopics more when lying in bed with a couple of pillows behind my back. I then sit up straight and they usually go away. But it occurs mainly when leaning over a snooker or pool table and doing exercise. I have also had palpitations that have started this way. I find that pulling my shoulders back helps to lower heart rate and frequency of ectopics. It's reassuring to know that other people get these ectopics.
Thanking you. I am 69yr female. When my 30s wore holter monitor. Kept diary. Food, time of day etc. Determined sympathetic heart rhythm affected by caffeine which can drive adrenal run or gun response. That was very helpful.
I know this is an old video, but I want you to know how much you've helped me with my concerns about my palpitations and how to deal with them. I had myself so stressed about them, I was stressed going to bed (and so experienced them frequently). Now I get them infrequently, if at all, and I have to believe it's because of your videos explaining what was going on.

Anyway it’s distracting, uncomfortable and disturbing too. For me it started during peri menopause and also when started working night shift. Mine is worse when I am too full or need to go to the bathroom and also when I am anxious. It comes and go. Hard to tell what helps or what not. Sometimes deep breathing helps. Sometimes nothing helps. I tried ignoring like you said in one of your videos, that helps too. But sometimes it’s hard to ignore. This helped me so much! Along with video where you speak about fear and ectopic beats. I was never sensitive to these until I started having heart palpitations in perimenopause. After getting my hormones help. I still felt these once in a while at the end of day when I would get in bed mostly laying on my left side. Helping me to understand this means so much to me. Dr Gupta you are my hero because you explain all these different issues. The medical doctors at the hospital do not have the time to go into the details of the patients diagnosis. My GP is very good at listening to me when I need reassurance with my diagnosis of AF with Factor 5 Leiden, so i am on anti coagulant therapy but it is causing me real problems with breathlessness. For people suffering from ectopic, life style does cause ectopics. Here are my triggers: Mint and anything with mint even toothpastes, Green tea, the smell of gasoline, STRESS and thinking too much, Spicy and acidic food.
Try telling that to my doc and cardiologist. But yes it's so true - my issues were triggered by Listerine.

I now understand how autonomic issues (heart rate falling to 30 bpm and then subsequent ectopics and low BP upon standing) usually only happen when I’m sitting in particular types of chairs. It made no sense! It’s all about the pressure I’m creating on the inside. I suspected that, but needed some voice of knowledge to get me to the how of it all. Thank you for doing what you do. I, for one, truly appreciate you.
I find cycling really amazing at reducing ectopics.

I've had two trips to the doctor and one in A&E recently and nobody seems to understand the part where I say if I lie on my left they are worse. I found lying on my back was bad too. Only lying on my right would stop them eventually. It's great to hear you talk about this.

I agree, when I am in bed or after meals, I get PACs a lot. I sleep inclined somewhat in a recliner and it helps a lot. I can't lie down flat hardly as my heart really skips a lot that way. Sugary foods, soft drinks and caffein seem to make it worse. After eating is worse also. I don't have the racing, just the skipping. Sometimes every third beat. I take Coreg 6.25 1X/day which helps a lot. MY BPM is usually under 60 and < 50 at night. Your videos are extremely helpful.
You don't know how spot on you are. I tried to tell my doctor that when I was laying on my left and got up quickly I went into AFIB, the next time was went I leaned forward to give my german shepard a kiss on the head. They brushed it off and didn't listen. I have Ectopic heartbeats several times a day...
I get them when I walk too fast, exercise, and am stressed AND when I'm having anxiety. I get them at night I think because my anxiety is higher, and I'm afraid I'm going to have them, so I do. Ugh.

Same. I get them when I am stressed, anxious or when I workout and get my heart rate up..... Its pretty scary. But I have learned to ignore them..

I first became aware of my ectopic heartbeats when I was 21. Since then, they come in spells - some lasting a few minutes and others a few days.When it is really bad, it feels like my heart skips half a dozen or more beats a minute. Freaked my wife out when she felt my pulse. Saw doctors a few times over the years and none of them seemed particularly concerned about it. One did refer me to the cardio dept in the hospital. They wired me up but everything was fine. That's because I wasn't having one of my bouts. I only found out about ectopic heartbeats a few years ago when a doctor finally told me what I had. I can't say I'm totally relaxed about having them but I no longer worry as I know it will pass. I have never let it stop me from doing anything, like playing sports. Including more adventurous activities like hanggliding and scuba diving. I'm now 70 years old and still fit. I hope this helps ease a few minds.
@@RyanLS I'm doing amazing! I found out I'm estrogen dominant and that I have autoimmune disease (hashimoto's and celiac) both aggravated and made worse by not having enough progesterone! Since starting hormone replacement they are 98% gone!
This doctor made so much sense on this topic I felt so much better listening to him he made me feel so calm and relaxed as I suffer with ectopic beats and get so worried about them but he took my fear away just watch I g him tell people not to fear thank you

Man i was panicked about this problem! I thought i was going to have a heart attack at 23 until I listened to your vids on this subject. Its funny after learning that it wasn’t really a big deal they almost went away within 10 minutes probably because my anxiety level went down and I calmed down. I was seriously about to go to the hospital when it happened and i dont have insurance so that would have been a huge blow to my bank account for no reason. I was looking into irregular heartbeat and the results where making me panic more but the symptoms weren’t quite the same as i had but your vids match exactly how it feels so im 99.999% sure that this is the problem. Dr Gupta. I know this video is four years old but I only recently discovered you. I have a heart and BP that suddenly
go wild and often end up for ecgs at the emergency. Of course nothing wrong and I feel silly. I also get ectopics mostly at night so will follow your tip of raising the bed. Checkup with cardiologist next week but thanks for your wonderfully clear explanations - they are really reassuring. At 77 my erratic heart and BP are a bit concerning. Lifting the head of the bed works for me. I used to use many pillows but then discovered a GERD wedge shaped pillow. Helps immensely with ectopics at bedtime!

Thank you for this video!!! This is me...with anxiety i.e., getting ready for work, and sometimes while squatting. I've seen 5 cardiologists over the past almost 25 yrs and they all look at me like i have grown an extra head! My quality of life was at stake! I've noticed that when my heart is extra sensitive to certain stimuli, is when it occurs more frequently. I feel female hormonal fluctuations play a huge role as well. I went off both of my meds, metoprolol at night and diltiazem in the am and I feel better. They make no difference in the frequency of my symptoms. I do everything I can to pull myself back from stressful situations, including a recent job change which has made a world of difference. I could not find your breathing exercise, I am very interested to see it. Your videos have made a world of difference in my life. Thank you so much!!!
I get them bad when I bend over picking up things😢 so happy I found this guy. I get bad panic attacks and my cardiologist and primary think it's all in my bed
7:18 yes! this is me! I get skipped or “extra” beats 90% of the time laying down for bed, and of those almost always on my left side, and only occasionally on my back. Never on my right side. If I know I’m tired or anxious, or had a stressful day, I won’t even attempt laying down on my left side or back.

Interesting. I asked my cardioligist if posture could trigger my SVT because I noticed it tends to happen when I bend over, but he said "no."
Mine happened also when I bend over terrible and scary.
