this gentleman should get a trophy for his videos. he is so compassionate to share with us his knowledge . I pray the universe blesses him and his family beyond measure.
awww thank you Robert
robert trottier I agree! I just found him a couple days ago on UA-cam. It's difficult for an educated person to explain things to people like us ☺️ Let's just say we're educated in different areas but not heart health. I understand everything he explains and he is happy to educate people. Something I, personally, haven't seen in a medical doctor before.
robert trottier I pray GOD blesses him
I also agree. November 2019. I sure wish American doctors would take the time to talk. Instead, they go have another patient
Damn, blessings? What about all the other doctors who selflessly treat patients you will never know about! Bigger blessings.
Your parents raised a wonderful son .

I wanna replay this over and over.. thank you so much Dr. Gupta.
Flat out truth!
You left out "drop DOWN dead"!

Yes yes yes , he s a son of God
Very reassuring words by God's grace
Nice Tips.
1. Stop worrying
2. Cut excessive alcohol
3. Stop smoking
4. Start doing some gentle exercise - gentle 10 minutes walk
5. Pay some attention to your sleep levels - good sleep hygiene. Sleep well
6. Try to reduce stress levels - go for a holiday. Some sunny place.
7. Reduce the amount of processed foods - Eat healthier and organic. Try to eat small amount of foods.
8. Treat Acid Reflux - avoid foods which induce reflux
9. Check thyroid and magnesium
10. Try some magnesium supplements - Eat leafy vegetables
Wow...well put together
Add cut out excessive Caffeine to #2.
From the video:
1. Stop worrying about your palpitations if you have been checked out by a cardiologist and your palps were found to be benign. They are not dangerous, only inconvenient. Worrying and having anxiety about them only makes them come more frequently.
2. Cut out excessive alcohol, particularly binge drinking. Also, the sulfites in wine contribute to more palpitations.
2a. Cut out caffeine, carbonated drinks, and energy drinks as they increase palpitations.
3. Stop smoking. Smoking induces chronic inflammation in the body which increases palps.
4. Start doing gentle exercise. If your palps are benign (see tip #1), don't worry about doing some exercise, it will be fine. Start with 10 mins of walking per day and build up from there. Exercise reduces inflammation which in turn reduces palps.
5. Get good sleep and enough of it. Lack of sleep has a huge inflammatory effect on the body which increases palps.
6. Reduce your stress levels. Stress is inflammatory. If possible, take time off work and take a vacation to someplace sunny and relax.
7. Reduce or stop eating processed foods. They are pro-inflammatory and the processing of the food strips their vitamins and minerals while also adding in toxins, chemicals, and preservatives. Try to primarily eat organic whole foods. Organic means the food has not been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc., which are all poisonous to eat. Washing produce does not remove much of these poisons. Organic also inherently means non-GMO.
7a. Eat smaller portions. Large meals stretch the stomach which can worsen palpitations.
8. If you have acid reflux, get it treated. Reflux is generally caused by LOW stomach acid, not high. So antacids and PPI's will only make the problem worse. Avoid eating foods that you know give you reflux. For many people this would be things like dairy and chocolate.
9. Get your iron levels checked. Iron deficiency anemia can cause palps. Get your thyroid tested. Get your magnesium levels tested. Magnesium deficiency is most commonly caused by eating a diet high in processed foods.
10. Supplement with magnesium. The best way is to eat leafy vegetables. But if you must take a magnesium supplement, use any form except magnesium oxide because it's bioavailability is very low.
Thanks for this. You've summed his talk up nicely.
thank you for the transcript!
Thanks. My doctor prescribed me antacids for my acid reflux....its only been one day but i dont think its going to help for the rest either :/
@@privatewars5039, antacids and PPI’s are the worst thing to take for acid reflux. They will ruin your digestion.
@تلاوة القران - Alafasy chocolate has caffeine which is bad for palpitations.
The most compassionate doctor ever!
I am so relieved to find a doctor that makes me feel like I'm not crazy about reflux and palpitations. How can you relax and not worry after a palpitation??????? It is so hard to not worry, but at least there is a doctor that addresses how difficult he knows it is to just ignore it. Thanks so much for these videos, just having knowledge from a professional in the heart palpitation field is reassuring. I hope you continue to make more of these. I newly suffer from heart palpitations and went to the emergency room, they said its no big deal, but did not think they are related to the reflux or vegas nerve??????? I know my body and I know they are related, so thanks for validating my feelings doctor! How great is it for you to reach out to the world of people suffering, not just to your paying patients, GOD bless ;)
+Donna McCausland thanks donna for these kind words:-)

This Dr.is heaven sent, its good for someone not to treat us like we are crazy or losing our sense's when we try to explain what we are feeling

This is so helpful! Thank you very much. Who else found this helpful?

I have never felt so much better in years without meds just by watching this very informative video, it makes my life less stressful. Thanks Doc for making a lot of us life less difficult. I was considering many of the things you've mentioned here to be a major contributor of my experiences with palpitations. I have learnt alot and you're video will certainly helps me to cope better on a daily basis, so many times I thought it might be my last breathe but your cool video has a calming effect on me so I am able to face my days happy and bubbly. I wish you God's guidance and STRENGTH Doc.

I have had atrial fibrillation for 6 years now. The palpitations got worse in the last 4 months after I had 2 cancer operations. However after watching your videos and listening especially this one, I feel much much better. Loads of thanks from Japan.
I have been recently diagnosed with High blood pressure, been put on meds, and today I had an episode where my heart started racing, and my BP skyrocketed, I rushed to the ER and have been diagnosed with palpitations. You don't know how I wish you were closer to have a consult with you, I have appreciated your videos since I discovered them a few days ago, you put my mind at ease. Thank you so much!
U shud try Austin Goh ,breathing exercise for racing heart , for calming down instantly
Thank you doctor shame not many doctors are like you take time and patiently very effectively thank you again !
I realize these videos are several years old but they helped me overcome almost debilitating anxiety over my benign heart palpitations. I don't know if the anxiety came first or the palpitations but either way it developed into a vicious cycle. I started having major and frequent panic attacks. Eventually, i was put on the correct medication for me and the panic attacks stopped. I still have palpitations but I don't focus on them anymore. I take a magnesium supplement called SlowMg that really does help. I gave up alcohol which helped the palpitations AND the anxiety. I do smoke and need to stop but I am very thankful for these videos. They helped me to accept that what i was experiencing was NOT going to kill me. I wasted a decade living in fear. Thank you Dr. Gupta for caring enough to make these videos. It really shows a level of compassion and empathy that people who experience these symptoms really need from doctors. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Thank you so much - I wish there were more doctors like you! I'm very very athletic and developed arrhythmia (PVCs, occasional Tachycardia, some Flutter) about 11 years ago. Had an Echo, holter etc. and all was fine and diagnosed benign arrhythmias. It took 5 years after this for a doc to finally take my extremely low ferritin levels seriously (hemoglobin and RBC were fine) and put me on iron supplementation! This really helped. In addition, I take magnesium (I did this on my own after researching it a bit....my doctor knew nothing about it) and I quit ALL caffeine. I rarely get PVCs and never get tachycardia anymore. I do get the occasional flutter but I try not to worry about it. You are helping so many people :)
How are you now?
What kind of magnesium do you take?
I take Magnesium L-threonate. Can be pricey but what my DO recommended.
The first time I've heard a health professional link poor food to poor health. At last!!! Thank you for such wonderful videos. Much appreciated.
stress, family troubles & alcohol combo induces palpitations, u r right about that.
palpitate in my heart beggin when i drunked
Mine started when I had a bad argument with somebody and I been having them on and off since then it sucks.. it's like my body doesnt handle stress anymore I'm too young I'm 33 smh
Tip number 11 : just watch your videos on ectopics and listen to your voice. The tip that works the best for me. Thank you so much for your help doctor . You're my sympatholytic drugs! :D
I just want to say thank you and God bless you. After hearing your first tip I started crying( becuase of relief) and I couldn't stop. Actualy I'm still crying because I finally felt safe and reassured.
It’s not just the food industry , it’s people in your line of work Sir, that are not as honourable as yourself.....Doctors prescribing Statins, antibiotics, blood pressure pills etc!!!!!
Thanks for the informative video Sir.
😇❤️👍
Wow what did I just watch! Someone give this guy a medal he’s amazing he’s so correct he made me laugh at times! Amazing Video thanks so much
Thank you Dr. Gupta. These ectopic beats have been driving me crazy! I tried your exercize and it worked. I cant believe i found a cardiologist caring enough to explain this !
what is the excercise.
Yes what is the exercise
Glad you are discussing ectopic beats. I have them constantly, accompanied with brutal brutal symptoms of "hunger" sensations (not hungry, not appetite), dizzy, lightheaded, weak legs, cold sweats, disorientations. A holter once showed 192 ectopic beats in on hour, othertimes, at random, less. The symptoms are brutal and scary, not the ectopic beats. I had a fasting serum glucose test (normal) but then again, tests for diabetes are unreliable. Had hormones tested, they were normal. Hypothyroid tests fluctuate, and antibodies for Hashimoto was slightly elevated, thereafter normal. Again, those tests are unreliable. Input welcome. Many thanks.
Doctor Gupta, I have never had palpitations in my life, I started getting them 2-3 months ago and followed your suggestions. Thank you so much, I saw differences right away. I was palpitation free until a few days ago when they came back. In my case I think the food and stress levels are the major contributors. They started getting better again. Thank you so much

Is Propranolol good for palpitations?
Thank god ive come across the video, im a 34 year old ex royal marine struggling for years with palpitations i feel like i could cry thank you.
I'm very sorry. I too have them. Today I've had more than ever. They were never back to back for hours before. Glad you found him. He reassured me too.
I really enjoy these vdeos. I started having heart palpitations a few years ago and chalked it up to menopause and being overweight. I ended up going to the ER one night after being awakened with an irregular heartbeat. They kept me for a day and ran an Ekg< echocardiogram and blood work to check thyroid and other levels> i was given blood pressure meds and told to follow up with a cardiologist (which is scheduled for next month)> It took 8 hours for my heart to return to normal. IHAVE ALTERED MY DIET< EXERCISED MORE AND FOLLOWED THE OTHER SUGGESTIONS> MY PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE DIFFICULTY WITH SLEEPING> WHEN I LIE DOWN< I AM USUALLY AWAKENED WITH PALPITATIONS AND I AM BECOMING NERVOUS ABOUT LYING DOWN> I FREQUENTLY SLEEP SITTING UP< WHICH LEADS TO OTHER PROBLEMS SUCH AS LACK OF SLEEP AND NECK AND BACK PAINS> I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR WAYS TO AVOID PALPITATIONS AT NIGHT>
A nice Indian Doctor....God bless you.
thank u!
This man is an absolute blessing and understands that patients need reassurance when suffering palpitations and his empathy is amazing andso helpful
This video is perfect for me today. For a couple of days, my heart has been jumping all over the place and I haven't been sleeping well. This is only the second time it's happened and because of your prior videos, I didn't panic but it is still scary! I'm pretty sure stress is the culprit caused by this isolation, and coupled with unresolved issues and a lack of activity. Life is not normal right now and we are not normal. You're the good doctor and the grown up in the room so thanks for being that reassurance right now! Please stay safe and don't neglect yourself!
YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT DOCTOR!! ♥️
I had cardiac symptoms, and they performed catherization on me. I ended up with an aneurism from the procedure which found NOTHING because all I needed was iron to bring up my below normal ferritin and iron saturation. I wish I could of had you because it would have saved me a lot of trauma and permanent damage.
So sorry. Hope you’re well
Thank you so much for this. Went to the ER two days ago for palpitations and your number one tip (to simply not worry about it) was one of the most comforting tips I've ever heard. The anxiety and panic palpitations can cause -- especially if they're new to you -- is overlooked, as I've now experienced it myself. The simple fact of acknowledging that your heart is racing for apparently no reason is enough to propel you into a state of panic and fear, which of course, compounds the issue. Some background; I'm a fit and very physically active 30 year old whose palpitations started after switching to a ketogenic diet. I stupidly left out a lot of leafy greens and didn't happen to be eating enough magnesium-rich foods and it caught up with me. I'm now supplementing with magnesium and palpitations have declined dramatically. Occasionally I still have a bit of shortness of breath from time to time but I can manage that if I don't worry about it too much and bring myself into a state of panic.
Pii
There is also a procedure called the ablation surgery people also get that as well to stop palpitations look it up
You're shortness of breath probably comes from your lack of iron.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS 😭 YOU ALWAYS HELP ME CONQUER THIS FEELING OF BEING ANXIOUS AND WORRYING ABOUT MY HEART PALPITATIONS
You are such a wonderful soul Sanjay .. So much of patience and wisdom ... I wish all doctors treat their patients with the same comfort . During this Coronavirus pandemic i am feeling so anxious..watching you is such a relief.. Lots of best wishes from Australia
Thank you so much for explaining this. I am a 38 y/o Firefighter Paramedic in California, long time athlete. Like a light switch, I started experiencing bad PVC's, 1-5 every minute. Your explanation is the best and most re-assuring I have heard thus far. You are right, it IS infuriating to hear ectopic beats are benign and ablation is not necessary. I am going through the process now, holter monitor, echo, ECG etc. Labs came back normal - so maybe some electrical aberrant pathway. But this has been so helpful for me. Thank you for your compassion and calm demeanor. Wonderfully helpful.
Hi Chris, I was wondering if you've had any resolution with your PVC's and what has helped? I'm experiencing the same thing and its been a few months now. At times I have 5 or more a minute. Any feedback is helpful
Thank you for your compassion and knowledge for us who suffer with palpitations. These are such helpful tips! Unless you have truly experienced what this feels like you can't understand. It means so much for a physician to really get it. Thanks again.
You are a Godsend to many people, we thank you for your time and knowledge. When I watch your videos I generally hear 2-5 things that I truly doubt my cardiologist knows, or would care to even consider. As someone who just started getting these, it really took me off my game, but am hoping by following your tips I see an improvement. Thank you!

Litterally the same lmao, my heart palpitations practically stopped after this video.
I come back to watch this video over and over. My palpitations stop during this time. The reassurance is very therapeutic for me. I wish I had this wonderful man as my cardiologist. ❤❤❤❤
Very glad to come across this video. This started happening back in June. Suddenly my pulse was 136-140 and would last that way like 3 hours. I started having chest pain & palpitations. This obviously led to anxiety! This lasted June 27 until the end of August.
Labs & EKG fine. Very scary. People didn't listen when i explain THIS is causing anxiety - not anxiety causing the palpitations. I'm embarrassed that I've had 3 ER visits and 2 regular Dr visits. I have a cardiology appt scheduled next month. Don't drink, don't smoke, no drugs, & cut back coffee & soda even.
It's hard to wait. Taking magnesium really seemed to help because it's helped control my pulse even when I do have the pain & palpitations.
Thanks for making a video to reassure people. :) :) :)
thanks much Kristi!
I had palpitations after having covid19. They lasted up to six months and then went away. Take the magnesium.

God Bless you sir. I have been suffering mental anguish for almost 10 years now because of the palps, and these palps have been an albatross that have ruined my quality of life for a decade. It has turned me into a basket case. I constantly wait for the next round and constantly obsess over it. It is just awful. Your videos have brought me comfort. Thank you for this selfless act, it is so greatly appreciated. I haven't really found yet your description of my heart palps. I do have GERD and when I have my palps it feels more like flutters in my lower chest, or as if my heart is rolling in my chest. It's hard to explain. I also have a strong desire to cough when these palps occur. My heart flutters then my fear kicks in which causes my heart rate to increase. I'm able to calm myself relatively quickly and then my heartbeat goes back to normal. I'm really hoping to find this explanation. I've watched your videos where you describe the different kinds of palps and really didn't find anything that I felt fit my scenario.

Thank you so much for all your videos. I've been dealing with palpitations for 7 years after going for various scans and tests i was told my heart was normal and not to worry. After that i was still living with them and was told it was down to stress in my life, although i knew the stress was coming from the palpitations! You've taught me how to manage and deal with them and I've been feeling so much better these past months. I now only experience the odd faint skipped beat from time to time, whereas before they tended to be quite strong like a heavy thud. Exercise, eating alot healthier and taking magnesium supplements are definitely helping me. :-) Much love.
There is also a procedure called the ablation surgery for palpitations check it out a lot of people do it just gotta make sure your insurance covers it
Another simply fantastic video! It is absolutely amazing how much patience and concern you have. Just the relief these videos provide is worthy of a Nobel Prize. Is Propranolol good for palpitations??
Thank you Dr Gupta. A very kind, thoughtful and generous video. I suppose the problems often come at times of stress. When you can’t sleep and when you enter viscious cycles of fatigue driving adrenaline and cortisol driving palpitations and driving bad sleep. I appreciate the holiday comment, but when stress is unavoidable: sick kids, covid lockdowns etc. Please keep up the good work. You’re saving lives.
Dr Sanjay Gupta you won our hearts by your first tip
May Allah bless you 💐
WOW this is amazing. My daughter just went to a cardiologist because of her palpitations (after I told her it was probably her nervous system or her stomach since she has some anxiety and some stomach issues) and of course, he told her that it was not her heart BUT never gave her any of this information. THANK YOU SO MUCH I am sharing this with her!!!
I have palpitations occasionally but I notice that they happen when I eat certain types of food...mainly oily carbohydrates. Thanks for your tips. they cleared up many of my concerns.
Ive got palpitations very often. Doctors told me i will get stroke. Im so worried. After listening to you every now and then. I feel so happy and relax. I only trust you Dr. Gupta. You are truly amazing. You are an Angel. Love you.
You mentioned reflux. It only took me about 25 years to work out that my morning porridge (oats) was a major heartburn trigger for me. It became most apparent during my second pregnancy when the heartburn was so bad after eating porridge that I had to stop eating it for the rest of the pregnancy. And then after I gave birth I was out of the habit of eating porridge. When I started doing it again, or eating biscuits with oats in them, I realised that I had not been getting heartburn that much anymore and suddenly there it was again after eating oats. Of course other things give me heartburn too but the thing that has helped the most was starting a low carb / keto diet. You tend to avoid grains (including oats) on this diet. I eat a lot of dairy, cheese, milk yoghurt, but they don't give me heartburn at all. When I eat grain carbohydrates, rye, wheat, oats, and possibly in combination with dairy (milk in porridge, cheese on toast, etc) then I would get heartburn. But I also drink goat's milk rather than cow's milk, and I find it's much easier to digest too. But OATS! They were my number one daily heartburn trigger!
Dear Dr. Gupta, you are so incredibly generous with you time, kind spirit, and knowledge. I can't thank you enough for all your videos and all the good work you do to help so many! God bless you.
Thanks again so much Dr Gupta. You and my doctor helped me so much, and I’m so grateful. I’m going back on magnesium now as I’m beginning to get them again off and on, but it’s mostly following bouts of anxiety. Even if the anxiety was quite a bit earlier I still get them later on sometimes. However, most days I have either 1 or no ectopic. I’ve been going on forest walks about every second day and I think it’s really helping. I only ever once got an ectopic beat in the forest, and it was while I was standing still, not exercising. If anyone wants to talk about their ectopic beats, feel free to reach out to me as I know how it feels.
What did u to to stop them

@@prettygirl2105 I wouldn't assume that its heart anxiety. If you had an echo also and that come normal. Try analyzing you diet to see if there something you can add or remove. Foods rich in potassium and magnesium. salt is important and eating enough and getting plenty of exercise(cardio) goes a long way. Drink plenty of water. Try this and see if it works. Keep you mind active also and eventually if will all get better. And if it doesnt get checked out again to see if there is anything that was missed.

Thank You Dr., I have high blood pressure, Thyroid, and now at 70 , my Dr. Has me on 3 meds for that. I'm not over weight. And now Cholesterol med too. I had Palpitations when I started these meds , only once in a while. I don't sleep well either since my husband passed away almost 5 years ago.
With palpitations, I use to be afraid to live my life. I gave up fear and attachment with the THINGS I love. Several months later, my wife and I booked a flight to Jersey, went on a bunch of roller coasters, smoked Ganj, did "nose clams" -(Not my proudest moment!)- but I'm still here.
Food for thought!
He's right, stop worrying.
Ganj is the one thing that brings on my palpitations and "FEELINGS" of death.
Magnesium Supplement helps, but high levels are dangerous.
Keep an eye on that.
You're an angel sent from heaven...i was experiencing palpitation and was lil worried and prayed and then as I open my UA-cam to see a tip for palpitation and you popped up...and I just felt so much better and I thank God for introducing you...stay blessed
Thank you so much doc! I appreciate your tips and you taking the time to reassure all of us having recurrent benign palpitations. It is such a scary feeling! But I will stop stressing now :)
I want to thank you very much for providing these videos. They are so helpful and reassuring. I have suffered from the irregular heart beat on and off for a very long time. My cardiologist has assured me that these are PVCs and nothing to worry about, but they do cause a lot of anxiety when they occur. I try to identify what triggers them, but I can't always do that. I do try the things that you recommend. Hopefully they are working. There are times that I have few to no palpitations and my energy level and state of mind is great. Then there are the days when I have lots of them... dozens and hundreds during the day. These are the days I really hate because it takes all my energy, and leaves me very depressed. It makes me feel like I can't make any plans to travel for fear that the palpitations will occur often. I will continue to try and follow your recommendations. Thank you again for your videos.
Thank you!!!
Hello Dr. gupta and thankyou for your taking the time to explain in such precise detail this ailment and its pro's con's remedies etc. I have been diagnosed here in new england USA with Heart palpations with rapid ventricular response. I am a 40 yr old man in good shape who has been physically active my entire life(splitting firewood and tree cutting) that being said it got to a point a few yrs ago where i had to have a chest monitor put on 24-7 for 2 weeks straight to record my "episodes". The thing that scares me still is when i would start having my palpations i would get IMMEDIATLEY light headed and "passout" hitting my head or whatever caught my fall and this terrified me. I have been taking atenolol for 24 months and still get infrequent "episiodes" that require me to lay down IMMEDIATLEY! I'd like to hear your thoughts please and thankyou.
This is much more better than sharing videos of gossips or running other ppl down. God bless you real good.

Just wondering how are u now
this is so reassuring, i have some on and off palpitation i remember exactly when it started, about 2nd week of the pandemic and we started wearing mask and everytime I go home i felt a random flutter in my heart, I ignored it but kept observing it especially if I am tired and stressed and so paranoid about it, I bought BP machine and my BP and pulse rate is normal, until 3 days ago I went to the Dr and ordered ECG and thyroid test, which gladly came up all normal praise God. Of course still worried about it as what you've said ..am I dying or scared of having a stroke. But came from you as a specialist I felt better now. I have to manage my worries and fears, since I am not overweight and I watch my foo as much as possible, only thing is I dont exercise, perhaps thats one thing I need to do. Thank you very much
How are you now? :)
