  • ☀️ Learn Buteyko Breathing with Neil on Zoom: www.thebuteykomethod.com/
    In this video I’m going to teach you the simple breath-holding technique that helped me heal my Brain Fog.
    This science-backed approach has helped me enormously in my recovery from burnout and long covid. So if you’re feeling foggy, if you are struggling to concentrate or your brain is feeling really sluggish, this video can show you how to go from brain fog, to clarity.
    00:00 Intro
    01:37 My Brain Fog Story
    04:29 Breath Holding benefits for Brain Fog
    06:28 Guided Many Small Breath Holds Exercise - Buteyko Breathing
    13:51 Next Steps
    If you are experiencing brain fog, you know that it can be pretty unpleasant. Some people find that they can’t concentrate, for others it’s a dullness or sense of mental fatigue.
    So in this video I’m going to share some of what I’ve learnt from my brain fog journey, how certain types of breathing techniques can help, and then I’ll guide you through one of the exercises so that you can experience it for yourself.
    Also, what’s really exciting is that there are a whole group of breathing exercises called the Buteyko Method that can be used to permanently cure brain fog, for some people anyway, so stay tuned to the end of the video, and I’ll give you some more information about those.

    I used to think 'brain fog' was fake until I had covid TWICE! I experiened some brain fog the first time I caught covid, but it went away after a few months. Unfortunately I caught covid again and now I am going on over a year with mild to severe brain fog to the point that I go into panic attacks. I've seeked medical help for months and nothing has worked. It has gotten to the point where doctors think I am making it up or I am losing my mind. Your breathing exercise have definitely been of great help. Although I still have brain fog from time to time, it is not as severe and I have not experienced any further panic attacks. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO WITH THE WORLD! I feel it has definitely saved my life, thank you.

    Yeah, this is why people say to breathe into a bag when having a panic attack. CO2 increase actually signals the body to absorb more O2. This is a tried and true method, and is also key to anaerobic exercise.

    • @thebuteykomethod
      @thebuteykomethod  10 місяців тому +93

      Hey @JessieJussMessy yes absolutely "CO2 increase actually signals the body to absorb more O2" - spot on. As an aside - for panic attacks it's safer to use cupped hands with a small air gap between the fingers. That way the CO2 doesn't build up too fast (which can also cause panic) and also avoids the risk of Hypoxia.

      Wonderful! I'm glad you found it so calming and relaxing. Yes the yawn can be a sign that the body is shifting into rest and digest mode. Hi Neil, I cannot thank you enough for uploading this video. I am a student, and I have been doing this exercise along with the video before every study session. It has been helping tremendously with staying calm and focused. Just a question if you don't mind: you mentioned that a breath hold of 3-5s with 10-15s pauses is good start for the beginner. What would be the numbers for the next stage, and when should you move to the next stage?

      @thebuteykomethod  10 місяців тому +11

      Fantastic! That's amazing that it is helping you so much Jack, and thanks so much for sharing ❤️. So during this exercise, the max breath hold length is half of your control pause (explained here www.thebuteykomethod.com/buteyko-breathing/the-control-pause-a-complete-guide). So as your control pause increases, you can do longer breath holds. Just allow more time in between. Hello ! I rarely do this exercise anymore, but I felt really useful! I think it's worth trying, and it also works well on the deep muscles of the neck. I realized that my neck muscles are very tight and this also contributes to the state of my foggy brain, so I also started doing neck exercises, stretching the neck muscles, this exercise is also great as shown in the video. and yes, I am much better today than 6 months ago when I wrote this comment! I wish you patience and a good recovery!@@ahsansaeed4002

    I've actually just recently discovered on my own that doing "belly breathing" during my walks, while doing long exhales, but exhaling completely, and then doing a quick "to the belly" exhale, and then repeat, I would feel a super sharp alertness, clearer eyesight, etc. I can say from personal experience alone, that this video is definitely valid.

    • @thebuteykomethod
      @thebuteykomethod  10 місяців тому +7

      Thank you so much for sharing 🙏. Yes the long exhales can down regulate the nervous system - helping us to shift into rest and digest mode which can divert more blood flow to the brain. Also, more CO2 build up. It might be worth experimenting with a slightly slower inhale and not exhaling for quite as long to see how that feels - just if it feels right for the body - it's always interesting to explore and experiment with the breath as long as it feels good to the body and mind :)

    I'm surprised that I actually felt a difference after just one session! As I'm with mental health, including ADHD which I often consider the reason of overstimulation and brain fog as my daily companions, I'm actually surprised that something as simple as "breathing less" seems to have an instant boost to by mental clarity. I'm gonna repeat this practice multiple times a day throughout the week - even if it just helps a little, I take any drugless improvement I can get.

    Hi Neil - I am So Excited to have discovered this video. I found it superbly easy to do, since I am what I've always thought of as a "shallow breather".... and I've always thought that was a bad thing, and that I should breathe more deeply and intentionally! So I'm really please to discover Buteyko breathing! (lol - the closed captions say "potato breathing"... sometimes CC's are so funny).
    Anyway, I loved following along and even before the end, I was feeling more deeply calm.
    You make it so easy and very clear how to go about Buteyko breathing. (I've been having trouble with unexplained dizziness; despite various tests etc nobody's figured out the cause yet. I'm hoping doing Buteyko breathing might help with it. But even if it doesn't, this sense of Calm is wonderful in and of itself!)
    After doing this video, I followed along with the Buteyko Breathe Light exercise you mentioned at the end of this one. I loved it, and am going to go back to that video and make a comment.
    Thank you So Much!
    Kathryn (76 years old - I love discovering new things!)
