      Ok boomer 😉. Only joking, I don't have any hate for Metallica, they used to be one of my favourite bands, but to suggest this basic motorhead rip-off blues pentatonic hard rock tune with a horribly sloppy solo is better than a lot of modern metal is pretty ignorant. Hell even their contemporaries like Megadeth, Testament and Flotsam & Jetsam have released albums in recent years that are way more creative musically and lyrically, better played, better produced and easily capable of competing with the new generation of thrash metal bands.

      @@jtwidmer6185 absolutely. When I heard this new song I said to a friend of mine that it's like they have gone back in time to just before Kill Em All, when they were basically copying Motorhead and Diamond Head. Maybe that's on purpose though, maybe they are wanting to get 'back to their roots' or something.

      I really feel like anything that would truly blow my mind probably wouldn't feel like Metallica.
      They created such a sound that has been interated on and mixed, and so many iconic riffs that I don't think I can be wowed in the same way if I compare them to my newer favorite bands.
      I think they could do more but it just wouldn't feel like them if they modern the style and type of riffs they play.

    Your comment on the solo is spot on. A French youtube guitar player (Florent Garcia) did a video on the solo with exactly the same comment : it's a "traditional" Hammett solo, that fit very well with the all "neo-traditional" direction the song clearly take. It's not the most technical (but still not "easy" and long enough for a 3 min song) and a bit dirty but...that's what Metallica solo are. This is THE Metallica sounds. You hear that solo outside of any context and people would go "Oh is that Metallica?"

    When I first heard this tune the other night I was kinda torn, as far as my initial impression. Now a couple days have gone by and I have found myself repeatedly going back to listen to it, over and over. The chorus where James screams the song title is everything in this track. That and the kick drums. But just the way James climbs the ladder vocally to belt out the chorus is such an amazing hook.
    This almost feels like a sorta power metal almost-but-not-quite Dokken-type vibe meets British new wave meets sped-up Load riffage meets a more polished version of Hit the Lights. It's gonna be a go-to live song (the lyrics kinda reflect that) and the song's energy and the boys' own energy are undeniable. I can't explain it, but all I know is my ear loves it.
    I'm very happy Metallica is back with new tunes and I'm also very happy they kept the album under wraps so now it's arriving soon - to MY mind - rather than them announcing it 2 years out and then us playing the waiting game.
    These old dogs can still hunt.

    I got goosebumps like crazy on the beginning segment and you came in at the perfect time, and your reaction was mine almost to a tee. I think I qualify as a Metallica fan since before Kill 'em all, that I sense something different, new and improved, and it had to, music evolves with us because we make it and you can already tell by the incredible riffs there, that they have changed like we all do but the music is like a fine wine now so I think they will write some good stuff for a while and what I hear so far is refreshing. I dig it and will crank it fully in a few here.... I actually bought the Metal Blade compilation Metal Massacre because thats how I got allot of underground metal in the early 80's is a record full of a bunch of bands, we didn't have youtube yet...lol. I never heard of any of the bands before on it so it was new, and I remember sitting in my buddy Doug's room and we put it on the record player and when Metallica's Hit the lights came on, we had just finished smoking some killer yellow afghani bud so we had a good buzz and I specifically remember like it was yesterday listening deeply to it and Doug was just staring at the floor and I was standing up to the left of him and I said "This band is going to be huge!" and he looked up with that almost saggy faced stoned emotionless look and just shook his head yes real slow in total agreement and the look he gave me was so funny i busted out laughing and said, "are you stoned" and he stood and said "fuck yeah, I gotta some fresh air" and we laughed ans went outside and agreed it kicked our asses!

    I will be honest I didn't expect to like this song as much as I do. It's some old-school Thrash with a modern twist. and it's just a fun song to listen to. This song is going to be responsible for several speeding tickets.

    You nailed everything on the head with the reaction. It is a solid track that I went into it with no expectations. Im 43 and I started listening to them at age 10...in 1989. Ive had my Metallica years where they were my musical heroes. As time went on, I grew out of their sound and went my own way. I kept up with them for the most part. Anyway...this is a solid offering by them. Lars sounded good, James sounded as good, if not better than he has for years. Rob, well....he's Rob and always sounds tight AF. Great bass player. Kirk and that solo...it fit the song. It sounded simplistic, but the song was too..IMO. Overall, a straight forward song that has replayability. 8/10

    i think the part most people skip over is the age of the band... The ENTIRE Metallica band is approaching 60 or already 60 (Kirk) and the band still plays Solid classic metal. James Still sounds great, they are a solid band that produces solid music and have since they dropped the first album.. seems like people are salty that they are still relevant HAHA

  • @SamFerguson
    @SamFerguson Рік тому +2

    Yep, you're spot on. There's nothing revolutionary in there, and it can't stand up to stuff they wrote pre-1988. But nothing does, and fans need to stop expecting their newer material to stand up to their 80s material. Solid rock / classic metal songs are what they're gonna write, and that's okay.
    I particularly enjoy how their NWOBM influences, especially Motörhead, really stand out. Metallica sort of are the world's best-funded "dad rock" band these days, and they're wearing their influences on the sleeve. And I'm here for it.

    Too many people want to shit on post-Black Album Metallica because it's the seeming cool thing to do. This sounds straight off of Kill 'Em All (which had plenty of catchy hooks), and Metallica back to embracing their Diamond Head (no one ever complains about how infectious every song on Lightning To The Nations is) and Motorhead roots. I had the biggest smile on my face when this came out.

    Two thumbs up to you for an honest reaction. I was neither over- nor underwhelmed by this song. The riff was cool, the solo was ok, it has grown on me. The drumming was steady and "fine". James´s vocals were good, especially in the chorus. I miss more background vocals and something "new" or "different". I don´t know. Maybe I´m just old and jaded now.. Enjoy your video either way, man!

    • @corrob
      @corrob Рік тому +1

      new and different? they tried that with load and reload, they went "new" and "different" and everyone hated it. so going old school, and motorhead-ish(especially on the drums) yeah, this is the way, back to the original inspiration.

    • @joakimlarsen6447
      @joakimlarsen6447 Рік тому +2

      @@corrob I personally liked Load and Reload. It wasn´t the thrash metal from old, but it wasn´t bad rock music either. I stated my personal opinion, just as you did in your comment. I liked this song, but it wasn´t mind blowing.

    so funny you were 4 when the black album came out I was 13yrs old when kill'em all came out lol! been a fan of metallica since the beginning! and the fact that they are still putting out some good music is awsome. I think this was a very solid song and I hope the rest of the album is as well.

  • @chriswicecarver3715
    @chriswicecarver3715 Рік тому +4

    I liked it. I really hope that we get more of this level of stuff than what we have gotten the last few albums. The only thing that I can say that is distinctly different than the early albums is that James' voice doesn't have near the same level of anger or us-vs-them. --- But that's not bad, just that it is noticeable. The speed on it is nice. This is early Metallica speed and that is what I liked when I first got into them. -------- With all of that being said, I'm going to wait to hear more. Maybe another song or two. With as mediocre as recent Metallica has been, one solid song is not worth buying a full album.
