Now that the whole new album is out, did you like it? I was too hyped about it but tbh it felt pretty low level. It all started with HTSD with most of the album forgettable, and now this new one.
James doesnt seem to consistently work on his voice - he'd mentioned in an interview few years ago that his son had said he sounds like shit live, so he started to practice - and sounded fire on the following tour. I'm sure he did practice for this record, but I dont think he consistently keeps it in check, cause as much as he's been my favorite musician, he definitely sounds like the runny shits some tours, circa 2015, pre Hardwired, his voice had zero grit, same for the MIAWTW tour in 04. It's not because he was sick, cause he sounds different when he gets sick - grittier, tbh, he's mentioned fans like how he sounds sometimes when he's got a cold. Anyway, James having grit in his voice is key, and he doesn't always have it. Layering vox and adding reverb in the studio absolutely give his recordings the classic grit on some songs as well, compare Cyanide, with less beastly layering, to like, Atlas, Rise! and I think the difference stands out a bit more. James voice is dope no matter which record, but the quality and tricks do vary.
This song is one of the best studio released songs that sounds as if it is a live version of their energy. if you added crowd noise behind it you would think it was a live version, thats how close it is. Im excited for the rest of the album and hope it follows this energy.
Now is the time to see them live because for this tour buying one ticket gets you two full shows with two different setlists on Friday and Sunday. I don't think they've ever done that before. Crazy how active they are at this age.
The only time they’ve done that is the 40th anniversary and it was freaking AMAZING. I love this idea. They are always on the edge of what’s next. always relevant. Can’t wait to see them in Detroit!
If you see them in concert, live, this song will have a whole new meaning when you hear it. I've seen them 14 times now, and his lyrics describe the feeling and energy of a live show perfectly.
Talking about James's voice not changing, is probably since he had drastic changes between the 1st and 3rd album he went from quite high pitched to what we have now.
More so from the first 3 albums to the 4th and 5th album which basically was just a deeper raspy version of the last 3 and less screamy and then the rest that came after 5th where he had a more clean voice without the scratch.
Guys you mentioned you might check out the band this tour.. please do!! You will remember it forever.. Best live band ever.. 60 concerts in for different legendary bands and they are top of the heap..See them live.. 🤘🏾
I'm hearing Breadfan, Overkill some sort of Diamond Head in the vocals and obviously the self referencing of Hit the Lights... they some how manage to make NWoBHM sound modern with the production - such an interesting mix.
@@realscience948 gawd... Something new creatively was Load, Reload and St Anger.... Or maybe Lulu.... I think we want Metallica in its pocket and build from there ... Not getting all "new and creative". Haters b haters
Motörhead's "Overkill" (drum repeat parts) meets Judas Priest. No bad thing! First Metallica track in years I've had running in my head all day after hearing it. I like it a lot! Can't wait for the album now.
Let me say this: with certain obvious differences, such as a high level of production and James' trained vocals, this brings to mind very early Metallica material. It's fast, precise and it has that in-your-face vibe. Is it my favorite version of Metallica? No. But it IS good.
I love this unexpected new track ! Very easy on the ears fireworks. It almost sounds like a cover.. Reminds me of the Garage Days days. Saw them live at Pinkpop; Netherlands in June. Superb gig ! ''Old'' James still sounds awesome.
I feel like boys here went through what we went through when Load first came out. Now this song has a Motorhead tribute feeling, has a touch of Hit the Lights, the feel of Fuel an a funky run through. I appreciate that they drove the main riff and kept it short like Hardwired. It's a call to come see them in concert and join the kindred alliance of music that lets us cast our demons out. Doesn't need to be intricate, it will probably seamlessly tie into whiplash or something on stage. It's a cool tune to welcome them back.
Talking about James' voice, I saw them in Pittsburgh in August and he sounded great! Entire bands energy was high throughout and was a hell of a show. Glad to see they are still rocking after 40+ years! Keep up the great work guys, love the channel.
Lux Aeterna is their album feature, so it's going to be radio friendly, quick, punchy and easily-digestible. Likely, the rest of the album will keep these key elements, but i'm sure there will be songs on the album that are more complex, longer and potentially experimental.
@@wokevirushandsanitzer5300 agreed! Metallica are definitely known for their instrumentals, so hopefully they’ve got one cooking for this album. Since the album (so far) sounds like a return to their early days, perhaps we will hear something akin to call of Cthulhu 👀
Glad you guys reacted to this! I laugh at people saying “wait till you hear this trash” etc. As a band as old as Metallica, it’s harder and harder to release new material. It will always be compared to the peak of their career and at this point it doesn’t matter. I’m just happy they stay so inspired to write and a decent song at that. They have nothing left to prove and I think it gives them drive to still tour and perform the old stuff too.
I see both sides when it comes to the criticism. I don't like their newer stuff but I recognize the points you and other fans make about comparison. If they still love making new music then I can't fault them for making changes in their sound. I'm a fan of the music and not the band so if they decided to not make any more new songs I would be indifferent. The old stuff doesn't stop existing. If people love the newer stuff, cool. I'm done fighting the purist fight.
But this IS utter trash? Lame and repetitive boomer riff. Annoying vocal melodies. Shallow and forgettable solo and a way too polished and over produced sound as a whole.
Been anticipating this album for a few years now because it’s been a minute since their last project. Absolutely love this song and can’t wait for April 14th!!
Me too. It may not be as heavy as their older stuff but I still pretty good. The other one screaming suicide is good too so I hope that the album is going to be fast paced. I didn't really care too much for hardwired.
Wow...first time hearing this. Thanks for posting! This is definitely a nod to the early influence years of Diamond Head. The tuning and tone of the guitars is on point.
I get a lot of kill 'em' all vibes from this new song mixed with the studio tech we have today and this is just a tease for what's coming. The new album is going to be 🔥also keep in mind that now we have input from Kirk which in the last album he had none after losing his phone with over 250 riffs/solos and one last thing YOU HAVE TO see them live.
James has been sounding this good live lately. Check out their Phantom Lord performance in November 2022. His voice is a mix of modern And Kill’Em All Hetfield.
Very positive sounding lyrics. Unifying. Good for a change of the usual. Music sounds like NWoBHM, production and James' voice sounds a bit Garage Inc. -ish. I hope I can see them live again one day
I feel like everyone wants Metallica to make music like they did years ago. They are nearly 60 years old and their sound has evolved a ton since the black album.
Apparently James agrees with Ryan’s opinion. In a recent interview he said this song was “easy to write” and the song is “easy to perform”. It is a harkening back to the new wave of British heavy metal sound they begin with. They could’ve called it Hit the Lights 2. “Hit the lights tooooooo! Yeah-huh-yeah!
It's a throwback to what they grew up on. Listen to Overkill by Motorhead for the drumming and It's Electric by Diamond Head for the chorus. Loads of other influences shining through as well. I'm hoping for a NWOBHM album from Metallica!
Those drums are _absolutely_ triggered and almost certainly quantized. Plenty of bands I enjoy do this, but I always hate how it sounds. I'd prefer an *actual* drum machine…
If you wanna get technical, this IS Metallica's original sound!! This song is remeniscent of Kill em All their first album. Metallica evolved into Ride the lightning, Master of Puppets, and the technical complexities of ...And Justice for All, people forget this is their original sound, in your face punky fast songs!! No two metallica albums sound the same except load and reload which were originally one album they split in two. I think their new album will offer a mix of all their styles. BTW you guys do the best reaction videos, you can tell you guys ain't just doing this for views, but you guys really have a passion for music and enjoy what you do...keep the videos coming!!
@@w00tastic I could actually hear this song on Kill 'Em All. Back then it would have been 25% faster but they are frikkin 60! This is a better sounding "Kill 'Em All" song.
Sounds a lot like what they grew up on and what influenced their first album back when they were still basically kids. Cool to hear them go back to their Kill ‘Em All roots a bit. That said it’s definitely a simple song and it borders on being a little lazy but it’s probably just an appetizer for the Album. Also yes James still sounds exactly like this live.
Exactly, Roger! Too many folks are expecting the incredible heights Metallica reached with their first four albums - this is simply icing on the cake, a very, very tasty cake that is about as good as it gets! I try to listen to each album from legacy bands as if it's their debut, can't fully enjoy stuff while constantly stacking it up against old history! Far too many haters in the Metallica universe right now, and I fully get that there's better metal out there, there damn well should be, appreciate the fact they are putting out good NEW metal at all! Same goes for Megadave, Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Death Angel, Kreator, Sodom, Obituary, Voivod etc. Metallica's popularity really pisses peeps off - that's what we do, as humans, build em' up - tear em' down. Cheers!
re the sound of hetfields voice - metallica record almost everything in the key of E or E flat - this song is in A, so in a higher note than normal, so Het's voice is in a higher range than we're used to hearing it (or at least since the Kill em all era) which also makes it sound "happier"
As a amateur singer, the range of his vocals are not higher is this song, although he hit an high note on the chorus, the verses are actually lower than the average metallica song from any album. It sounds happier because of other reasons
Great reaction guys! It's a good song, kind of radio friendly metal. These dudes are almost 60, they still rock. Looking forward to the album and tour.
This has to be the shortest song for sure. The album is 77 minutes long with 12 songs. This is 4 minutes, so the average song length is over 6.5 minutes in the 11 songs left.
As soon as I heard this I wanted to see you guys react! You are absolutely on point. They are like classical composers. I agree with the other comments. It gets stuck in yo head! I can't stop listening to it! The drums are🔥!
The fact that they can perform at this level 40 years later is inspiring. I remember sneaking off at 15 to see Metallica in 1986 Master of Puppets concert (tixs were $40 then) and then getting caught by my parents who thought heavy metal was music of the devil. The fact that a new generation is discovering the greatness of this music makes it all the more sweet.

This songs, apart of a little popie type of melody, really reminds me of their first album. Specifically Hit the light. It sound like another version or continuation of that song with more sound engineering going on. I think that was their strive to relate to those beginnings. Anyway, great , honest reaction from you guys as always.
George's 'sleeping on silk sheets' analogy was incredibly insightful. He captured what so many of us feel with 'legacy bands', but have struggled to articulate. Although, I have to challenge him when he says 'Metallica never really sounds bad to me'. Do you not remember St Anger George?
@@mattias3312 Hey - no judgement here. I was kinda having a friendly dig at George who stated that they have never really sounded bad to him, and yet his reaction to St Anger would suggest otherwise.
Love the Marvin Hagler reference. Who hid Kirk Hammett's 'wah-wah' pedal? Thank goodness! This song is tight, the production is solid, and having the notes behind James's voice helps his overall sound, even if the lyrics are simple. Honestly, if you read the lyrics it really lines up with the current situation in Ukraine, and perhaps Metallica is showing support indirectly, as I know their charities are helping with the refugee situation there directly.
It’s crazy how good they sound still, I saw them in July in Portugal and they were amazing they still kick it and ofc people age but they still kickass, and keeping doing it for years and years it’s very respectful
I just saw this song pop up on my feed randomly and I freaking love it!! It's been SIX years since their last album, are they becoming Tool or what lmao (the long gap between albums)? Nice to see you guys putting out Metallica content. They've kind of gone away from any current metal trends and stuck to their own guns, even if it doesn't break any new ground. It's incredible to think then, that bands like Amorphis, Soilwork, Evergrey and Enslaved have been flying the flag for metal for over 25 years, with consistent quality and tweaks to their sound, and still fly under the radar.
Lux Æterna is basically if Motörhead's "Overkill" and Metallica's "Hit The Lights" had a baby, with the band's modern-day polished production.
It seems like they're re-visiting their childhood haha. I guess that's what the album is about

@@c.f.875he literally sounds exactly like this live
I got my tickets for the floor. 2 days of Metallica with no repeat songs is amazing
@@xyzcreative4104I paid 380 for floor for the jersey shows, the floor was definitely much more for worldwired tour and that was 1 show!
The more and more you hear this song the more I love it!
meh
Every time MetallicA puts out a new song, I hate it first time round. But I can’t stop listening. I love this more and more
Disagree. It's going the opposite direction for me.
Really? It's the opposite for me😂
If you see them in concert, live, this song will have a whole new meaning when you hear it. I've seen them 14 times now, and his lyrics describe the feeling and energy of a live show perfectly.
You hit the nail with the silk sheets analogy….after the black album and some age long touring afterwards they settled down and so did their music.
Definitely Diamond Head too.
So nothing new creatively…same old template they are accustomed to?
@@realscience948 gawd... Something new creatively was Load, Reload and St Anger.... Or maybe Lulu.... I think we want Metallica in its pocket and build from there ... Not getting all "new and creative". Haters b haters
Motörhead's "Overkill" (drum repeat parts) meets Judas Priest. No bad thing! First Metallica track in years I've had running in my head all day after hearing it. I like it a lot! Can't wait for the album now.
There's bits in there that remind me of Van Halens, hot for teacher.
I say MOTORHEAD + DIAMONDHEAD. full blown NWOBHM.
James's vocals are amazing and it sounds like to me 1/3 hits the lights 1/3 stone cold crazy and 1/3 hardwired!!!
I said a third Hit the Lights, a third Stone Cold Crazy, and a third Fuel.
I definitely say hit the lights vibe now you mention it I do hear stone cold crazy
I would also have to agree on fuel rather than hardwired all round I think this us a great new track and probably my favourite of the " newer" stuff
It's just awesome to have these guys still around releasing new stuff. Period.
This song gets better the more you listen to it
Highly recommend to watch a recent live performance (somewhere 2021/22). They never stopped sounding great!
Let me say this: with certain obvious differences, such as a high level of production and James' trained vocals, this brings to mind very early Metallica material. It's fast, precise and it has that in-your-face vibe. Is it my favorite version of Metallica? No. But it IS good.
Lux Aterna = ethernal light. This song is a tribute/remix to Hit the Lights! And i love it
I feel like James vocals have gotten much better sounding over the years!
Old school Metallica sound with the studio quality of garage inc. freaking love it
It also has elements of their DIO cover from Garage INC. too, mixed with some Maiden and Judas Priest. Very much an oldschool Metal sound.
I love this unexpected new track ! Very easy on the ears fireworks.
It almost sounds like a cover.. Reminds me of the Garage Days days.
Saw them live at Pinkpop; Netherlands in June. Superb gig !
''Old'' James still sounds awesome.
Couldn't help but smile as soon as the song started, long live Metallica!.
I was there looking for a clean toilet most of the show cuz I had to shit so bad
Accessible first single for all the new fans from Stranger Things, Metallica never stops, this album will slap.
About time we did some metallica again!!!
Lux Aeterna is their album feature, so it's going to be radio friendly, quick, punchy and easily-digestible. Likely, the rest of the album will keep these key elements, but i'm sure there will be songs on the album that are more complex, longer and potentially experimental.
Yeah but I don't think it's "radio friendly"...
@@luispedro1668 it’s short, got a catchy hook, no profanity. What’s not radio-friendly about it?
I’m hoping for a good instrumental, something mysterious and bright.
Obviously I’m not expecting some Cliff level stuff but it’s been a while.
@@wokevirushandsanitzer5300 agreed! Metallica are definitely known for their instrumentals, so hopefully they’ve got one cooking for this album. Since the album (so far) sounds like a return to their early days, perhaps we will hear something akin to call of Cthulhu 👀
@@luispedro1668 this is one of the most radio friendly metallica songs
James is said to have boxes of riffs written down. It's time to open those boxes and remove a few.
Especially hard when you peaked 30 years ago....they suck now.
Been anticipating this album for a few years now because it’s been a minute since their last project. Absolutely love this song and can’t wait for April 14th!!
Always refreshing when you guys are doin it. Love your king Diamond reviews. Keep up the good work!
I think it's a fun song! Metallica is still solid after all these years.
Me too definitely has a hit the lights vibe to it.
Got my tickets can’t wait to see these twice on this tour it’s gunna be epic!
James has been sounding this good live lately. Check out their Phantom Lord performance in November 2022. His voice is a mix of modern And Kill’Em All Hetfield.
I love you guys SOOOO much!! Lol I always hated reaction vids until I discovered you guys. Keep it up
This song is going to be FIRE when they play it live
Saw some other reactions on my YT eed yesterday, but yours is the only one i waited for
Very positive sounding lyrics. Unifying. Good for a change of the usual. Music sounds like NWoBHM, production and James' voice sounds a bit Garage Inc. -ish. I hope I can see them live again one day
Felt the same way you guys did when I first heard but now I keep going back to it. It really grows on you
I feel like everyone wants Metallica to make music like they did years ago. They are nearly 60 years old and their sound has evolved a ton since the black album.
Right...St. Anger was such an evolving album....
@@geodio5646 O shut up yall slipknot teens...
Death Magnetic is better than all the stuff some of these bands put out in a lifetime...
@Geo Dio Poor mixing aside, I feel like …And Justice For All was the absolute peak of their sound.
@@jvan28 too dry and Lars’ ego was so inflated. That album would’ve been soooo much better with more base, but Lars had to have the drums out front.
Spot on 💯
Apparently James agrees with Ryan’s opinion.
I'm hoping for a NWOBHM album from Metallica!
waited for you guys to do a react to this, before listening, knowing you two would bang this out with in days of it releasing
That riff really is fire. It's been stuck in my head since I first heard it.
And Lars is really fekking killing it on the drums. Holy shit!
Those drums are _absolutely_ triggered and almost certainly quantized. Plenty of bands I enjoy do this, but I always hate how it sounds. I'd prefer an *actual* drum machine…
Over 6 million hits in just 2 days is amazing love the track killer riffs and drums and James is singing his ass off.
To be fair, even starting out as one album, Load and Reload have their own distinctive "sound" from one another. Not a HUGE difference, but notable.
Think it’s way more commercial than their original sound
Definitely not as hard as Kill 'em All, but I'm loving that their love of Motörhead is showing, which is definitely a signature of Kill 'em All.
King Nothing and Outlaw Torn are still two of favorites
@@w00tastic I could actually hear this song on Kill 'Em All. Back then it would have been 25% faster but they are frikkin 60! This is a better sounding "Kill 'Em All" song.
I can't wait to see them again, already got tickets to the "Dallas" (Arlington) show!
THE MORE I LISTEN TO THIS SONG, THE MORE I LOVE IT!!!!! 🤘🏼🎶
Metallica had the best overall catalog years ago. Anything they do now is just a bonus!
Cheers!
@@treff9226 I couldn’t have said that any better.
I already listened to the song a couple time but listening again with you guys it's a brand new experience. Thanks for your passion!
re the sound of hetfields voice - metallica record almost everything in the key of E or E flat - this song is in A, so in a higher note than normal, so Het's voice is in a higher range than we're used to hearing it (or at least since the Kill em all era) which also makes it sound "happier"
As a amateur singer, the range of his vocals are not higher is this song, although he hit an high note on the chorus, the verses are actually lower than the average metallica song from any album.
It sounds happier because of other reasons
They don't tune up to A they tune down to A.
Great reaction guys! It's a good song, kind of radio friendly metal. These dudes are almost 60, they still rock. Looking forward to the album and tour.
James' voice doesn't just "still" sound great - I'd say on this track he sounds better than ever!
More well rounded
The first place I'd come for a reaction. I kept thinking I can't miss out Lost in Vegas and a new MetallicA song!
This has to be the shortest song for sure. The album is 77 minutes long with 12 songs. This is 4 minutes, so the average song length is over 6.5 minutes in the 11 songs left.
Dude! My boys are back! I can’t wait for the album release.
You guys really need to check out some of their live videos. They put out tons. They live performances are legendary.
As soon as I heard this I wanted to see you guys react! You are absolutely on point. They are like classical composers. I agree with the other comments. It gets stuck in yo head! I can't stop listening to it! The drums are🔥!
That solo was a classic example of how many times Kirk has recycled it over and over 😂
The fact that they can perform at this level 40 years later is inspiring. I remember sneaking off at 15 to see Metallica in 1986 Master of Puppets concert (tixs were $40 then) and then getting caught by my parents who thought heavy metal was music of the devil. The fact that a new generation is discovering the greatness of this music makes it all the more sweet.
This song feels like an uplifting anthem that Hardwires itself 😜 into your head lol. It's not a mind blowing song, but it wasn't supposed to be. I really hope we get some more songs like "Spit Out The Bone", "Halo On Fire", "The Judas Kiss", and hopefully another instrumental like "Su*cide And Redemption'".
Great stuff as always guys! Love the content.
This songs, apart of a little popie type of melody, really reminds me of their first album. Specifically Hit the light. It sound like another version or continuation of that song with more sound engineering going on. I think that was their strive to relate to those beginnings. Anyway, great , honest reaction from you guys as always.
you absolutely MUST check out The Call Of Ktulu, you guys will not regret it!
George's 'sleeping on silk sheets' analogy was incredibly insightful. He captured what so many of us feel with 'legacy bands', but have struggled to articulate. Although, I have to challenge him when he says 'Metallica never really sounds bad to me'. Do you not remember St Anger George?
St anger is great imo. Gets way too much hate
@@mattias3312 Hey - no judgement here. I was kinda having a friendly dig at George who stated that they have never really sounded bad to him, and yet his reaction to St Anger would suggest otherwise.

"It sounds like they're sleeping on silk sheets". What a perfect way to put it.
Yalls analogies are always amazing
It's almost weird Metallica released a short that short. :D Great surprise! It's swell to still be able to live through another Metallica release. \m/

I just saw this song pop up on my feed randomly and I freaking love it!! It's been SIX years since their last album, are they becoming Tool or what lmao (the long gap between albums)? This is very old school Metallica mixed in with more modern Metallica elements, James's voice sounds better than ever! I'm soo hyped, I can't wait for the new album!!! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Actually this lull in between albums was nowhere near as long as tool 🤔
As a veteran of the 10,000 Days to Fear Inoculum gap, Hardwired still feels like the "new" Metallica album to me.
@@Phantasm2Cuda I'm aware of that, the 12 year gap between the last 2 Tool albums was terrible. I was just making a sarcastic joke because they make us wait soo damn long lol.

@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead to be honest I didn't think they would probably ever make another album Metallica that is
Nice to see you guys putting out Metallica content.
Lars’ drumming is Impeccable in this song! Shout out to my man Lars, Ryan’s “fave” 😂
It’s all studio wizardry. I may be the biggest Metallica fanboy in existence, but I know that Lars will be all over the place when he plays this live.
