Schlager is really hard to explain, I wouldn't compare it with Modern Talking, that was pop music. But EC describe it perfectly with this song and the video. Apart from the party schlager, which is mainly played on Mallorca or folk festivals, which you can best bawl along to when you've had a few beers, the original Schlager scene is a fake ideal world. Good-looking, tanned guys and pretty young women with a broad smile, singing about the great love, the beautiful homeland, nature, flowers and bees or the dear mommy. Music that makes the hearts of older gentlemen and ladies in TV music shows swell and makes them sing along, clap and sway with joy. And then comes the zombie part and shows how this perfect world off stage really looks like. I don't know if it was intended that way, but they executed it perfectly.
That is one kind of Schlager. But you also have the fat old guys that sing about how they banged some native young girl at a vacation trip 30 years ago.

The Schlager part is so much more nuanced, than one would think at first glance. They even have some weird pronunciation or accent in their words, which is eerily similar to professional Schlager. They go from their most "pop'y" sound to their absolute hardest metal in a few seconds. This songs is brilliant. So damn catchy. And I really hope you're right, and some normal radio station picks this song up, having only listened to the first 30 seconds of it.

I’ll be sending this to all my German friends today.
You're right that the "track" is heavily referencing the German Schlager scene: the band mimiced by EC is not so much "Modern Talking" but the "Flippers". EC here hit perfectly the generic stereotype of Schlager musicians. And yes: Schlager is a sensitive topic for everyone listening to "normal" music. ;) P.S.: The first time I saw the teaser I thought that WBTBWB will have to do a cover version of this. Not necessary, EC ready cover that themnselves.

I went from chairdancing, thinking it was going to be this poppy EDM song, sticking with the goofy, happy beat, and then boom! Surprise deathcore breakdown. I loved it!
The song shows above all, that they can also Schlager. The Schlager part is on an extremely high level and much better than most others do, and then the end, legendary, just good.
Loved it! Reminded me of maximum the hormone by, well, Maximum The Hormone, where they also played generic pop for a minute into the video before laying waste to everything. Maybe it just depends on what kind of humour one has, but I really enjoy being able to bang ridiculous pop for just as long as it needs to start getting uncomfortable, before letting lose and blasting heavy as shit breakdowns. ♡
This was fun live.... The Sanat ana CA show they set up a circle and had a couple dancing during the 1st part, Then the crush devoured them like the zombies did
Yesterday I experienced them live at Reload Festival in Germany and they put this song in the middle of their setlist. They made a Foxtrot-dance-session out of it, which was a very nice idea, but over all the whole impact of this song got a little bit lost imho. I like your idea of putting it at the opening of the show. I could imagine it a bit more impactful. But in general I would have loved if they continued playing as Zombies after the breakdown and finished with the craziest and ugliest possible Schlager. This would have been the ultimate and well deserved destruction of Schlager, I think.
They already performed it live the day after its release on reload2022 festival, and it was hillarious, I am sure for quite a while they will play it at every show at least in germany
i love that escimo callboy split the song into two parts, the horror part first on the boat and than the release and nice second part with the zombies, very epic! at least this is how i persive it as a german who got in contact with schlager way to often.... Das ist waaaahnsinn... :D

I have seen them yesterday at the summer breeze festival. Es war ein totaler Abriss! 🤘🏻 Sadly they didn't play the new song. That would have been perfect. 😎
Great vid once again, Tank! In terms of which Schlager artists' look they try to go for, there's a good chance Nico is supposed to be Michael Wendler while Kevin is supposed to be Costa Cordalis. I feel like their looks fit those two better.
They're slowly morphing... little unsure what into, but it's definitely a fair swack away from the ones that made them massive. Not sure if it's a great morph, but hey, music is all about exploring yourself and been an artist so go for gold.
@@TankTheTech oh its definitely on par with EC expectations no question there but from back eith hypahypa disco groves into metalcore, to what sounds more a Hoff ballad into Lorna Shore vibes deathcore.
I have to say Schlager isn't really that mainstream here in germany, from what I hear on the radio. It's more something for older people (and I'm not that young myself) like my parents generation, I would say. Though for that demograqphic I think it is quite popular. If you want more Schlager look up ZDF Fernsehgarten, IIRC, my mother had that running sometimes and that is what I instantly associate with this genre. For my opinion on the song, I really don't like it. I can not stand Schlager and the last part is too heavy for my taste. But I can appreciate the joke they did with it and that they want to mix it up a bit with their music.
Pft...you have no idea how many "younger" people listen to this stuff, if only while drunk at weekeneds or at parties and vacation. But no way only old people fill the halls for Andrea Berg, Helene Fischer and that dude with the austrian accent, forgot his name...
German Schlager definitely needs to have a content warning because it's so horrible 😅 it's also not consodered pop music in germany per se, it's not played on regular radio stations, Schlager has its own radio stations and while many party Schlager exist, a lot of people think of it as the thing that our grandma's listened to. Thing is, this year at every rock festival, everyone was always blasting "40 Jahre Die Flippers" and it kinda swept over into real life so every time now I go somewhere where alcohol is involved (a random concert, soccer matches) people are still singing this stupid Flippers song and I feel like this song was released now because of this? This is the perfect moment for a song like this.
as a german this song shows exactly the reaction when i hear schlager. 10 seconds and it makes me aggressive. Schlager (whether classical or party) is absolutely not my style of music, even when I'm drunk
The blinking in silence reaction at the end, yeah, same here. I really want to know what the next track on the album will be. Thanks for the background on the 80s pop bit as well, that is definitely not context I had watching this the first time

I lived in both Germany and Spain and all the association with Germans and Mallorca are very true. My Mallorcan friends spoke German to make tourist season easier and my German friends always tried to get me to go Mallorca, hehe.
This is a hilarious track. I’ll be sending this to all my German friends today.
This was literally my first song from this band. When it was over I simply clapped, all alone in my home. Still though. Bravo!
You're right that the "track" is heavily referencing the German Schlager scene: the band mimiced by EC is not so much "Modern Talking" but the "Flippers". EC here hit perfectly the generic stereotype of Schlager musicians. And yes: Schlager is a sensitive topic for everyone listening to "normal" music. ;)
P.S.: The first time I saw the teaser I thought that WBTBWB will have to do a cover version of this. Not necessary, EC ready cover that themnselves.
Might also be a jab at Michael Wendler who in the video to his song "Egal" drives around on a boat wearing a white shirt.
@@Shileah Yes I think "THE WENDLER" was a big influence. But he is a problem of the Americans now, our tin foil hat wearing darling hiding from the IRS 😆
It's more like the schlager duo "FANTASY" also produced by Dieter Bohlen
40 JAHRE DIE FLIPPERS!
@@Shileah ok, thank you for the info! I saw some additional "interpretations":
-the wheat field could be a reference to "ein Bett im Kornfeld"
-and the foto seems to be a connection to a song called "Schick' mir ein Foto" or similar - that one I don't know.
Anyway: pure (evil) genius!
The tour was amazing saw you in NYC thank you for a show of a life time the only thing that sucks is I have to wait a year to do it again!
Man...MtH...still have a tinnitus from them. From that point on I always go to concerts with ear protection...
played this song as main dance song on our marriage in Germany. All people were irritated :-)
they actually played it tonight at highfield festival and the crowd looked so confused 🤣
Yesssssss
than it was probably the first time they played it live, because the didnt play it at summer breeze on friday.
@@tr33DerYeti it was, they had to wait for the single to drop
This was fun live.... The Sanat ana CA show they set up a circle and had a couple dancing during the 1st part, Then the crush devoured them like the zombies did
Schlager is huge in scandinavia aswell, this was just amazing 🤣
Whole nordic region I think as a Finn I am very familiar
Yesterday I experienced them live at Reload Festival in Germany and they put this song in the middle of their setlist. They made a Foxtrot-dance-session out of it, which was a very nice idea, but over all the whole impact of this song got a little bit lost imho. I like your idea of putting it at the opening of the show. I could imagine it a bit more impactful. But in general I would have loved if they continued playing as Zombies after the breakdown and finished with the craziest and ugliest possible Schlager. This would have been the ultimate and well deserved destruction of Schlager, I think.
I just love how most foreign reactors vibe with the first part while the germans agree that the true horror is the Schlager music.
They already performed it live the day after its release on reload2022 festival, and it was hillarious, I am sure for quite a while they will play it at every show at least in germany
I listened to it three times and i giggle like a schoolgirl every time after the breakdown 10/10
Hi Tank, they did it live (in Budapest at least) and it was HUGE!!! Best concert of my life
Definitely get the feeling this is going to be the opening intro song to the new album and goes straight into heavy and catchy as hell again
For context for the boat scene at the beginning, check out "Wendler - Egal".
Also gotta love how your heart rate goes down when the video starts :D
i love that escimo callboy split the song into two parts, the horror part first on the boat and than the release and nice second part with the zombies, very epic! at least this is how i persive it as a german who got in contact with schlager way to often.... Das ist waaaahnsinn... :D
I think we're entering an era where bands are clearly designing their videos around online reactions.
The smart ones are, at the very least.
Was watching back to a bunch of your old vids, and honestly... can't believe you're not waaaay higher in sub count (think you were around 45k when I "discovered" you).. your reactions, and amazing breakdowns/comments, the fact checking and gear checking... you're amazing :) (like I said when I originally subbed, your Tank Facts alone are enough)
the behind the scene work you do is amazing, and I love it!!
I very much look forward to what is coming, especially knowing you're touring with Electric Callboy :)
Yeah! This is genius! So, your relationship with these guys really pays back! You've said on the f*ckboi one that you've also done your reaction a day in advance. Why didn't you premiere that one as you're doing now? Anyhow, I am sure, this is a great review. Will enjoy it as much as the video itself, pretty damn sure. "Let's GOOOOO!"
Cause most of the time I have a schedule. Right now with the move and everything, I have no schedule so I just decided to release it immediately. Haha
@@TankTheTech I didn't know when they were going to premiere their track until your reaction showed upcoming and then I knew the track had to drop before that.
You guys uploaded I think in the same hour as the video!
Saw them live a couple days ago at highfield festival. They DID play it live and it was so much fun 😂
I saw them live yesterday in Germany and they made a pit for ppl to dance to this song. Security shook their heads as they saw it.
It's the best feeling to listen to a new electric callboy song after work and see your reaction afterwards
alternative title "an accurate depiction of the german schlager scene" aka "28 schlager later" :D
The best Schlager Song since "Danke, 40 Jahre die Flippers" and "Ferien in Algerien".
Thx for this
This song is just a perfect troll. And, I, Love, It
I simple LOVE these guys. Once again a super surprising song.
Combined with the video this track is hilarious. The song alone is... interesting. I agree with Tank. In germanspeaking countries I totally can see this as an opener on their concerts.
This song takes you for a wild ride and kicks your ass quickly.
A "troll" song that is really made for the meme´s and Reaction videos xD, Love it :D
thank you Tank The Tech ,👍👊👊🤘🤘🤘💋💘😎!
Welp, I guess it's confirmed then, that everyone listening to Schlager regularly has one foot in the grave ;)
That was stupidly brutal and I liked it!
This is so nutty, I love it. Great react, thanks for the vid Tank!
I have seen them yesterday at the summer breeze festival. Es war ein totaler Abriss! 🤘🏻 Sadly they didn't play the new song. That would have been perfect. 😎
Again....brilliant. I've watched it at least 5 times at this point and I laugh every single time.....and now it's in my head for the day
My first reaction after seeing this music video has been "WTF". I think they nailed their goal with that song :D
LOVE IT!!!!
Have a great tour!!!
✌🤟🤟
The Song is even a Loop. The Text He sings before also fits what happens afterwards.... 😁
Hahahaha!!! This video rules! You're so lucky to be going on tour with these guys. :)
Great vid once again, Tank! In terms of which Schlager artists' look they try to go for, there's a good chance Nico is supposed to be Michael Wendler while Kevin is supposed to be Costa Cordalis. I feel like their looks fit those two better.
This is AWESOME live!
They made the crowd dance discofox and within seconds it turned into one of the most brutal moshpits I have ever seen!
They played the song live at the Highfield Festival today
No way. Hahahahaha
I freaking love this. What a great video! These guys are winning the internet music game for sure.
Absolute brilliant! Who can resist Modern Talking?
I'm from UK. Absolutely love it, my friends love it, partner loves crazy mad video.
Not sure if anyone else got it but my favorite part of the song is that it only 'lasts' (hint hint wink wink) just over a minute and a half hahaha
just the look on your face at the end, just complete disbelief xD Priceless!
They're slowly morphing... little unsure what into, but it's definitely a fair swack away from the ones that made them massive. Not sure if it's a great morph, but hey, music is all about exploring yourself and been an artist so go for gold.
I dunno, this seems pretty on par with what I expect from Electric Callboy. Haha
@@TankTheTech oh its definitely on par with EC expectations no question there but from back eith hypahypa disco groves into metalcore, to what sounds more a Hoff ballad into Lorna Shore vibes deathcore.
Forgot all about this today! Seeing it for the first time with you Tank!
*LETTS GOOO!!*
Thanks for introducing these guys to me!❤
German Schlager definitely needs to have a content warning because it's so horrible 😅 it's also not consodered pop music in germany per se, it's not played on regular radio stations, Schlager has its own radio stations and while many party Schlager exist, a lot of people think of it as the thing that our grandma's listened to.
I will see you guys in Lincoln Nebraska. Super excited, look for the guy in the UTA baseball jersey.
as a german this song shows exactly the reaction when i hear schlager. 10 seconds and it makes me aggressive. Schlager (whether classical or party) is absolutely not my style of music, even when I'm drunk
Same here 😅
The blinking in silence reaction at the end, yeah, same here. I really want to know what the next track on the album will be.
Thanks for the background on the 80s pop bit as well, that is definitely not context I had watching this the first time
To be honest, I'm a little bit afraid of this piece of music. 😉
