govt job is for cast and skill wise backward classes...unskilled, untalented, underconfident people go for govt jobs by just preparing for an exam which has NO use in practical world

i dont agree to underpaid = immuine to layoff i was working for 22k salary company acquired a company and no budget for our salaries they layedoff 60% of our team
True dear, I never said "underpaid=immune to layoff" I said whose ROI is high.. there is a big difference

No category is safe but it's definitely hard to fire a government union worker. Also, as a business owner the only person who can fire you is you or your customers if they're not buying what you're selling!
You were talking about manager's role in layoffs but when I was working for an IT Company (Finance BPO) it was my manager who got fired.
That's true dear, so many times managers are fired because they are non-billable, when budgets are tight, company do targets non-billable resource and the first target becomes the highly paid managers or non-billable employees.

@theCorporateDiaries Please suggest if job seekers should get clauses for layoff from company's side mentioned on the offer letter before joining. What should be mentioned by the company if they want to terminate employment of the Employee like Notice,Compensation to be given by the company?

Hi varsha, am working as a hr in one s/w private limited, and am reporting to vice president of engineering who has no value about HR(past) he will spread negative about HR... am working here from past 5 months, doing only recruitment and engagement activities, am boared by this, he will think HR is there to play games to employees...he gives me instant task of engagement activities.. even tooo much partiality in company, i askd help with other branch HR. But not getting any help from her too. Pls suggest me something.

Try to benchmark the other branch activities and create competition for your reporting manager then jhe will be busy in achieving it and you will be remembered for tasks not for engagement activities. For ex: see something which can be implemented for employee welfare thing in ur branch and then your manager will be at corner to take it forward or not.
