My car has times where it doesn’t wanna start. Battery is good brand new starter and alternator is good. The key sometimes doesn’t wanna turn like it’s stuck. No sound when cranking. We thought it might be the ignition switch but not sure what to do next, have spent a lot money trying to figure it out, it’s very random when it happens and then sometimes after about hr or 2 it will start up. Any ideas ?
You ever solve your problem??? My 04 impala, the key would not turn at all, tried all the jerk the wheel, wiggle the key, I use in pull back lift up etc. Nothing works. Has happened like 3 times in a year. But now refuses to start working? Steering wheel isn't locked. Not sure I'd it's key anti theft ignition switch blown fuse or what. Looking stuff up but nothing on how to fix besides take to mechanic. Like you say, spend alot of money on wrong fixes.??
yes mine dos it randomly its an antitheft thing, if you wait 10 full minutes it will reset but dont touch anything in that time ,i was told the switch has to have like an ohm reading before you turn the key so when you put the key in wait 2seconds before turning, works for mine , it may be all bs but got it off the internet and it seems to work.
I got my car to start but the tow driver did something and has been ignoring me. The engine turns on and won't shift gears. The shifter on the column was just flapping around til I connected the arm to the thing, (no idea what it's called) feels like it's shifting but still engine just revs. Any ideas on what this idiot did? Thanks.
I spent over $1,000 trying to fix this no start issue I replaced the alternator the battery the starter and the ignition switch and cylinder and the fuel pump and even the computer I sent this car to four different mechanics and no one can figure out how to fix the problem.😠
I ended up drilling out the lock cylinder to get it to turn... piece of cake! Could have had the entire thing changed out in 15 minutes not counting the three 10 minute intervals to reprogram. Car runs like a charm.
@@danafranks7842 i also drilled mine out to get it to turn did you replace the cylinder or were you able to use the same one? i changed out the cylinder and tried to recode it but car still won't start
My ignition locked up and then they key broke off inside. Can I pull out the ignition and put a new one in with a new key? Or does the computer need to program to the ignition?
If you can get the key out then you going to have to replace the lock cylinder. After it's replace it will have to be reset, it is something that you can do your self. Turn the key on and watch for the security light to go off it takes 10 minutes for it to go off. You going to do this 3 times, after the 3rd time it should start. So watch the security light for 10 minutes to go off 3 times.
You may have to drill it out to get the ignition to turn then change the ignition cylinder out. You will have to reprogram it. Takes about 30 minutes, can be more
Thanks gonna try getting new keys and ignition and cylinder and pop it out. Bought one on Amazon. This mechanic I know was saying he had a guy for 200 bucks to program the ignition. And the dealership wanted 1100 bucks when I got it for 500 bucks with 70,000 miles on it, 05 Impala, my mom's friend was getting rid of it lol.
If you drill it out all you will need is the cylinder... its its $130 at auto zone. And you just have to get the cylinder to turn to the on position... im no mechanic and I did it myself... drilled it out hard to wiggle the drill to get it to turn but it was simple...it cost me a total of $130 to fix mine and I was quotes $900 from a shop.
To program it it takes 3, 10 min intervals with the new cylinder and keys. No machines just have to watch the security light on the dash. Its simple. I didn't think it would work but it is simple... saves you a pretty penny
Can the ignition lock cylinder cause the car to shut off while driving? It can be restarted after shifting into neutral. Thank you

Check the shift cable on transmission

MY key comes out it just won't turn do i still need the assembly from the junk yard
I would start off by going to the dealership and get a key cut by the vin number
