Thank you SO much!!!! For me, I just needed to move the steering wheel side to side, as you showed. I was sitting in hot car with groceries melting and you saved me!! 🙏🙏 thank you! 🤗
Thanks this just saved me from being stranded in a gas station 300 miles from home in 90 degrees of heat never had a problem with this part before on my jetta 2008 so from my family deepest thanks
After watching several other videos with possible fixes for this situation, stranded by the way, this worked. I didn’t have any WD-40 or other spray type lubricant but I did have a partial bottle of lawnmower engine oil in the back. I opened it up got a little on my finger, lubed the key with it and have it a try. Didn’t work, shit! In my mind I’m saying to myself this isn’t gonna work either! The man said try it 2 or 3 times. I hit a little more oil on my finger and lived the key again. Here goes nothin! Gave it a turn and the key moved like nothing was wrong. Thanks a million my friend. I’m gonna go raise a cold one to you.
Definitely just the jiggling the wheel while trying to turn the key without even using wd-40 helped me get home from being stranded in 100 degrees with my little ones! Thank you!
Thanks for going straight to the point with the video unlike most youtubers. I had frozen groceries in my car and the car was red hot from the sun. I wasn't able to turn the key or the AC for that matter. Not my best day today but your video helped me a huge deal.
Thank you very much! This repair worked perfect. I tried everything I could and was about to get it towed to a garage and it would have cost me a lot of money of which my wife and I do not have. We were being told to tear it apart and all kinds of other things. It was so easy. Thank you again. So very appreciative that there is still good people out there that are willing to help others with there video's. I've liked and subscribed. Hope to see more of your video's. Keep up the good work.
I was a skeptic at first but sure enough this actually got my neighbors truck to turn over. I was sitting there for over half an hour trying to get it to turnover before seeing this technique. It may not work for everyone, but it worked on a 2001 F150.
Never saw so many thank you's in a row. Didn't think it would work , but couldn't get the key to turn. Had WD40 but no straw for it. What the heck, I'll just spray it in as best I could, kind of flooded it. To my amazement, the key turned immediately. Add another THANK YOU!!
Thanks dude! Saved me. The ignition switch started being really stiff a few days ago from now being so hard to turn, like even past the ACC part. I put a little bit of engine oil that I had since I had no WD40 or silicone spray/graphene, on paper and smeared it on the key and after a few wiggles and turns it finally loosened and is now smooth as butter!
my car had this issue but after watching your video, it worked so easily. My steering wheel was the issue that stopped the ignition from turning - thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you! I was stuck at work and had to get my kid from daycare. I got the plastic off and was able to remove the ignition switch from the cylinder. I was able to turn the key enough to unlock the steering wheel and started the car with a screwdriver in the ignition switch! Life saver!

Thanks for the assistance, took my wife's car out and pulled the wheel after I had turned the car off, came back and the key wouldn't move, jiggled the wheel a little and pulled on the key and it worked! Thanks again!
Thanks mate, l panicked when my ignition key was locked so just by moving the steering wheel a bit when you turned the key, it worked. Thanks very much.
Oh, thank you for this video!!!! I went out to the truck this morning and took a socket (was not about to take the plastic off around the ignition) and held it over the ignition and tapped it with a rubber mallet like 3 time and it started right up.
Hi, thank you so much for that you helped me out big time :) if it’s ok with the wd 40 is it a temporary fix and I still need to change the part later or am I good to go for a few more years ?
Hi, thanks for watching, and glad that the video helped! If the inner components of the lock are not damaged, then you've probably solved the problem for a longer period of time. Just pay attention from time to time is it working properly. If it starts to get stuck despite the fact that you've cleaned and lubricated it, then change the lock ASAP. Hope this helps and all the best to you!
Not one to add comments- but my fiancé had this problem, and I have 3/10 knowledge on vehicles. I watched this, and in 10 minutes she was pulling out of the Botox parking lot. This is great knowledge, thank you!
You are my hero😭😭, I just moved the staring* wheel .. . I was stuck for almost an hour😢😢😢 Thank you so much... defo subscribing and will take time to watch your other videos... rookie new car owner here🙏🏾
Do not use standard WD-40! Standard WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant and will, in fact, remove any type of lubricant that is in the cylinder. Use a lubricant that has a silicone, graphite or Teflon base only. Something that will dry fast and won't turn the inside of your cylinder into a dirt magnet. WD-40 makes a dirt and dust resistant dry lube version that is specifically made for lock cylinders. Engine oil is probably something else you don't want to put inside your lock cylinder. Dirt and dust particles stick to engine oil like glue.
@@PG_FISHINGspray the lock out with electronic connection cleaner, or something else that won't leave a oily residue, let it dry, then lube it with graphite.
@@michen25 you can do what @wanagerscott wrote above. The electronics cleaner spray will remove the residues of the wd40, use it abundantly. Let it dry a few hours then apply a suitable lubricant
Thank you for your help! I just needed to turn the wheel right and left while consecutively inserting the key. This video has helped me a lot! Thank you.
Thank you for making this video! Was almost stranded out of town. Tried WD-40 at first but it didn't work. Then watched your video and sprayed WD-40 directly on the key like you showed. Solved the problem and saved the day!
I appreciate it greatly. This just occurred to me now, and I turned the steering wheel slightly and then turned the ignition key 🔑. It worked immediately. Thank you very much 🙏
Thanks! The oil worked for me. I was stuck at work yesterday until my wife brought another key for me to try. Her key worked, but it still took a couple of minutes even with her key which isn't nearly has worn as mine (18-year-old car). When I got home, I shut the car off without removing the key or touching the steering wheel. Again it took a couple of minutes of trying to get it to turn. After putting a few drops of oil on the key and working it for a few minutes, it now turns freely!
I THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE BEFORE THINKING IMMA NEED A NEW STARTER AND EVERYTHING, I TRIED THE 2ND LAST ADVICEYA GAVE ME THE LEFT AND RIGHT LOCKING WHILE I TURN THE KEYS, AND IT WORKED
I've been having problems with my key turning for a year. Wheel wasn't locked and still wouldn't turn. I have blisters on my blisters. I put WD-40 on the key and it worked!!! Yay Thank you!!!
Nice, straight to the point video. I used WD-40 Silcone spray, as I didn't have any WD-40. Not working for me, I can turn my steering wheel abit in both directions but the key won't turn. I had to leave my car today in a carpark that's locked for the weekend. Any additional suggestions on what I could try? the silcone spray, I used about 30 minutes before I had to leave, do you think if it soaks it might work? First time I've had this issue.
Hi and thanks for watching! If the tips in the video didn't help I would recommend not driving the car and checking the lock ASAP. Using silicone spray is even better but to be honest I don't think soaking will really help. All of this helps when the lock is jammed due to filth and grit inside the lock. But if the key or the lock is physically damaged, you have to repair it.
Thank you so much man! I turned my wheel a bit and as soon as I turned it I was able to turn my key very helpful video thank you for posting . 2017 Kia sportage
Deighted to say that this worked! Many thanks, only problem is I don't know how good a fx it will be long term and whether I should risk taking car out again, and just have DW40 with me as a permanent companion in the car, or whether I should just drive it straight to the garage to get replacement bolts etc fitted... I'm NOT a DIY person, and could not manage to do this myself; indeed I consider it a miracle I managed even to fix this....
I am a driver, I am in heavy debt and I work 12 hrs per day per week, today your video saved my life otherwise there was bad things going to happen to me Thanks a lot man GOD BLESSE YOU
Thank you, my ignition has been giving me hell, not wanting to turn all the way off, when I power the vehicle down. It's so stressful! It's getting worse everyday and I cannot afford parts, much less to hire a mechanic (I just don't have anyone I trust at all to work on my car, I've been screwed every damn time) I had been fighting with it for several hours this morning, and finally when I messed with the wheel while turning it off, it FINALLY turned all the way off!! God bless you! I really hope I'm able to make this work for now, until I can get the ignition switch replaced
Omg 😂I feel so dumb but guys the one that solved my problem with the key, not turning when I tried to stick the key in the ignition and turn the steering wheel. The lights lit up, and the car started right up. Thank you so much.🙏

I am a driver, I am in heavy debt and I work 12 hrs per day per week, today your video saved my life otherwise there was bad things going to happen to me
Thanks a lot man
GOD BLESSE YOU
Thanks for the vid mate. The engine oil tip worked perfect for me. I had no oil on me so I popped the hood and got oil from the Dip stick
Thanks for watching and glad if the video helped!
Thank you, my ignition has been giving me hell, not wanting to turn all the way off, when I power the vehicle down. It's so stressful! It's getting worse everyday and I cannot afford parts, much less to hire a mechanic (I just don't have anyone I trust at all to work on my car, I've been screwed every damn time)
I had been fighting with it for several hours this morning, and finally when I messed with the wheel while turning it off, it FINALLY turned all the way off!! God bless you! I really hope I'm able to make this work for now, until I can get the ignition switch replaced
