Just for anybody wondering what is wrong with my speech. I had a speech problem, and this thankfully has gone away. I just wanted to take this comment to thank you guys for the all the support and likes. I really appreciate it.
@@LaPoboy Time solved it. My identical brother had the same problem as well when he was young. He went to a specialist, but I didn't. You have to measure precisely and drill a small hole over where the button will be in the off position. Hit the button the same as if it was in the on position and it the ignition cylinder should pop out. As far as I can tell this works.
What is the name of the part called? My 1998 Chevy Dually broke. It has a little button beside the key ignition that broke. The whole plastic ring broke as well. Thanks.
Thank you, the only thing I can think of without actually seeing it is perhaps the shifter is not reaching park? I had a newer gm truck that had a similar issue except it would engage starter. I would check to see what gear it thinks its in.
There is small pin that holds the shifter in park and essentially let the ignition know if it is in park I believe. Perhaps that pin is not functioning properly. The pin is location at the bottom of the shifter. If you have access to a junkyard I would go there, and take a look at how the mechanism works and see how yours is different perhaps?
Hate to bother you just trying to give all my info bought the truck cheap price put new engine in needed to change the shift cable and while I got this far why not figure the shift problem out at the same time thanks
I would try everything possible to make it turn without destroying the ignition system if it isn't destroyed already. I have never ran into the issue. Usually if you put the key in just right the key will turn. It once took me about 10 minutes to get one to turn just playing with the key.
You will have to drill a small hole and do it precisely above where the button is while the cylinder is in the off position. I would make sure to do some good measurements beforehand. If done correctly it should work.
No, you can buy an ignition switch that comes with keys(most auto parts stores have the ignition switch with keys). Now for the door you will have to keep the original key obviously to manually unlock and lock the door, but it is a relatively simple fix.
It actually belongs to my father, and it is just a very small flat head screw driver meant for taking about phones and the such. You can probably get them at a harbor freight or perhaps even walmart.
That I have not ran into. I would do more research to see what other people have done. Worst case scenario you have to drill a small hole to get access to the button I show here, but I dont even know if it is to designed to come out even if the button is pressed down in that position.
So my question is does it work tight after. Reson why is because most chevy cars need to be reprogrammed after doing this. Let me know I could use the advices
It works just fine after. Never had a problem. There really isn't any reprogramming to be done. These trucks (I don't think going based off that I replaced the ignition) don't have that much security as far as this goes.
There are long bolts through the bottom holes of the bottom cover. If I remember correctly the way to take it out is to take those bolts out and then the top should be loose after you take off the bottom. It has been a long time since I have done one of those covers, so I may not be 100% correct, but that's what I remember.

@@Savedbygracefaith The ignition would have to be extremely broke to be able to use a screwdriver.
