The workout formulas (pre, post or overnight recover) that are actually good will be 2-4x more expensive than if you were to buy the ingredients they use in bulk and mix them together. You can actually go a step farther and find natural sources that contain those ingredients to save even more money. For example, processing raw pumpkin seeds into a powder can save you a lot compared to bulk refined ingredients.

I really appreciate your videos. I was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic. As a native, diabetes runs in my family to the point of long term dialysis as the end result almost 100% of the time. I am determined to turn this around before it turns into full blown diabetes and have made some major diet changes but there is a lot more to it and I've learned so much from your easy to understand explanations. My life is too full to spend it in a dialysis chair!

There are a few statements, that I can't agree with. Saying that you absorb whey protein hydrolysate is not entirely true, because the di- and tri-peptides that it's composed of are not that easily absorbed by you intestines due to the fact, that the protein transporters in the cells are meant to transport more complicated proteins than peptides (due to the fact, that those peptides are not that common, when compared to proteins). That's btw. why EAA and BCAA don't build muscle and are used as a energy source (they go through a process called deamination and are broken down to pyruate acid which goes into a process called Krebs-cycle and are used as an alternate energy source). So, what is the best protein supplement (btw. they are not supplements... they are food, so use them like that... I use them for cooking, not only as a shake)? In my opinion, it would be a mixture of whey protein isolate and casein protein (those being a higher concentration ones like 80%+)

The orgain shakes are fantastic but specifically the plant based ones. Usually the fully plant based products taste worse but honestly the plant based orgain shakes taste way better than the milk ones and are much better for you. Also I am reading the ingredients on mine and it seems they no longer use rice bran but everything else is the same so looks like its been improved too. Theyre super tasty

Whey protein concentrate and casein have only been found to be inflammatory in some individuals. It's unfair to claim that you should avoid it altogether, although yes, I would prefer a whey isolate or hydrolyzed isolate be the first listed ingredient to make up a larger portion of the powder. Looking at nutrient timing (Brad Shoenfeld, Bill Campbell, every credible researcher) blends have been found to be superior compared to taking whey isolate alone. Your body needs 20-40 grams of protein every few hours and blends are recommended because each protein type digests at a different rate, giving you multiple levels of absorption, casein itself digesting within 6-8 hours (making it the perfect before bed protein powder to fulfill muscle protein synthesis while we are asleep seeing as we cannot eat asleep!)

And although overall protein intake is what you should focus on, consuming 20-40 grams of protein is shown to capitalize upon giving you what your body needs every few hours. Also something called MTOR. Look into it. Go watch someone credible like @Biolayne or Jeff Nippard. Even Dr Greg

The Orgain simple organic peanut butter is my absolute favorite. Coconut sugar is a much better choice than regular sugar and “too much carbs” just really depends on your goals. Carbs are ultimately needed for protein absorption so if you are drinking it for a post workout protein than a lot of those proteins that have close to zero carbs won’t cut it.

I cannot thank you enough for your videos!! I am learning such about the ingredients, chemicals and such and how they impact my body. I truly believe that the cleaner and fewer ingredients the better, but there were so many things that on their own seem ok that can affect me specifically because of my thyroid for example. Your videos ate easy to follow, simply explained, and super informative. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Hi Thomas. I’ve been adding the Orgain Protein and Superfoods to my morning smoothie for a couple years now. I notice you were not a fan of the millet used in their superfood complex, and I’m curious to know more about the anti nutrient effect you mentioned. I understand that it can decrease iodine in the body, but if the amount is negligible in the protein powder does it really have a noticeable effect? I’m wondering if I should stop using that particular protein now.

He also wasn’t a fan of the rice bran in them and put them both back on the shelf. I think he said the rice bran blocked the mineral absorption from the list of super foods in their ingredients. I’ve been using Orgain for many years and am now thinking about looking for an alternative having a history of thyroid issues in my family.

Had Keto fatigue for two weeks, during shakes consistently for a few months. I'm 57 years old, weigh almost 200 lbs. now. Right now doing fasting for a few days, feel clear-headed. My goal is to get to 170 lbs.

Ive tried everything that Costco has. Prefer those huge 6 lb. protein "Cookies and Creams"
bags (Green and Black tin foil). But everything there is just so good. Every protein, supplement,
vitamin I've purchased at Costco -- has worked for me big-time. If I run out protein now - I freak.
I'm like my God I've run out. (breakfast of protein shake, oatmeal/fruit - almonds - supplements).

Incorrect. Sucralose has been shown to 1. Not increase blood sugar levels, 2. Not be inflammatory, 3. Is not "toxic" like you claim. It is one of the safer and more common artificial sweetener used in 90% of the proteins in the market for a reason.

Only thing I would say though is that the ingredients that were considered worse or superficial were at the end of the listing. History has taught us that the farther you go down the listing the less per mg of that ingredient exists in the combo. I wouldn't call the troops out to protect me from the last 5-6 ingredients so to speak.
The portion about having an ingredient that makes you more addicted to diary, i can't agree totally. I think its purely subjective based on the person. Ive used every protein powder in Sams and Costco for roughly 10 years, and I do not consume any dairy outside of the protein powder. I do not even eat bread, pizza, or anything that is primarily composed of dairy (unless its hidden).
Great review overall, I'm subscribing. I just know from years of research and personal trial that many scientific findings are not written in stone no matter what the science says.
Edit: I wrote this based on the first package you spoke on. I wasn't aware that you mentioned the ingredients listing and where they are included higher or lower on the list.

    Thanks Tom,
I just bought my boys the second brand in your review because they're both taking it. They are 16 and 19 and are actively working out. My youngest is training for football and at 5'10" he's bigger than his older brother. My wife and I just happened to be at Costco last weekend getting some almond flour and some other things. It wasn't supposed to be a lot but we always seem to spend no less than $200 every time we go there. What brand would you recommend? Not necessarily at Costco but anywhere it's available. Thank You in advance.

I think people need to know and watch this video when purchasing whey.
    Highlights
    1. Opt for whey isolate .
    2. Make sure the whey is rgbh hormone free and 100%grass fed.
Ideally and for people with digestion issues:
    3. It is better if the whey is sourced from traditional A2-Protien producing cattles.
whey sourced from traditional cows (Gir cows, tharparkar etc.)
For US brands whey sourced from (Guernsey, Jersey cows).
It might be difficult to find all these in one brand but, if you can then you have your answer for a good whey protein.
Still stick to the VERY first two points when purchasing whey and always check the bioavailability of protien.
