Thanks for your detailed analysis of many of the shelved protein products at Walmart! Don't forget that egg whites are a very good source of protein too! There is liquid egg whites people can buy for convenience if they don't like busting open raw eggs. BTW, I have stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease and since I urinate out much of my protein, I need to eat/drink quality proteins but ideally, non-animal based proteins so I was happy to see there was a plant-based protein available.
Man, I can't thank you enough for how informative this is for the every day consumer. I currently use Raw Organic Meal from Garden of Life. No hemp, unfortunately, like you recommended for the pea protein, but at least it doesn't have the artificial sweeteners. Keep up the good work.
Yea, I like how he mentioned Isopure are sponsors of this video. Then he praises Isopure over Dymatize and especially Optimum Nutrition , who have been in the industry for years.
As someone who’s lactose intolerant, Muscle Milk makes the most sense to me mainly cause it has all the milk proteins without milk. The savings difference between it and IsoPure and all the rest is negligible. + I don’t use protein shakes that often so I won’t care about the high calories.
The best advice he gave was "Just take a whey protein isolate and add coconut milk" If you are not a scientist at reading these chemical ingredients, just go back to basics
Wow, just a year ago and the prices are nearly HALF of what they were today when I went to WalMart looking for whey protein. I ended up getting the Gold Standard Whey and it cost $1.16 per gram, like $28 for 1.5 pounds.
The Dymatize ISO100 has to be the best tasting protein powder available. Especially their chocolate flavor. The Fruity Pebbles flavor he looked at had all the artificial colors and glitter stuff, but the normal flavors don't have all those. Even then, it says on the label "less than 1%". So you have to take into account, that it is just a very tiny amount of "bad" stuff. If flavor is not a concern for you, then he's right, you can't beat the ISOpure for clean protein powders. But you will pay a bit more for no flavor. Just up to personal preference.
It mixes very well. Some cheaper powders can clump up or feel grainy but ISO100 is very smooth and blends completely. Also, since it is hydrolyzed, it is easier to digest. While other types of whey protein can cause digestive distress. I've had no problems with the ISO 100. Also the hydrolyzed whey protein is absorbed faster than other whey proteins. Then you can get into recovery quicker after a work out.
@Violett Fem I’d expect for a woman to say that, lol, I had an ex who absolutely adored it, but even she- … well, nah, she’d love it 😂🤦🏽♂️, but I have absolutely NO use for ANY damn glitter, especially while trying to build muscle

Thank you Thomas, Another great and informative video. Question: have you or any of your subscribers heard of Ka’Chava: a nutrient-dense meal protein powder. I have been seeing a lot of their commercials lately, and wondering if anyone has tried it or knows more about it. Is it any good or just another new gimmick powder.
Yes, I have and it's something like muscle milk just fewer calories. if you are looking to bulk up it would be a good meal replacement to use. it's very flexible but you have to blend it. it's not like regular protein powders. if you don't have time for breakfast in the morning that might be a good way to go, the only issue is that it can be expensive.....
Amino acids in your pre workout also ruin the pump effect, the only aminos youd want in a pre workout is either L-citrulline or L-arginine in a rather empty stomach
I love your content but this is a rare miss for me. You need to also consider 'taste' and weigh the pros and cons of costs compared to something that tastes bad. Vega might have an impressive ingredient list, but it tastes bad to me because it is more 'earthy and plant based. I've never had a good Vega product. On the other hand, I do appreciate the flavors of Dymatize and Muscle Milk. That's why the ingredient list is longer. So you're getting less protein per serving as an example but if it's something you're gonna enjoy over and over again it's a good product. I will say that I also agree IsoPure is a better product overall but not necessarily in taste. Again That's something that you need to consider.
Really enjoyed this video but would like to see what protein powders are good for kidney health. I am a kidney transplant patient and have to be extremely cautious about doing ANY sort of whey or especially Creatinine. Could you please point out some that I can use in a daily dietary regime. I am currently attempting the carnivore diet.
Is the carnivore diet the best diet for your kidneys? I've always heard dark leafy greens like spinach and collard greens then berries, fatty fish etc were good for you kidneys. Are you trying to lose weight?
Good video! Very helpful. I’ve been seeing ads for Kachava. I’m wondering what your opinion on it is. It sounds pretty good as a meal replacement and a greens supplement in one. Is there anything else on the market similar? Thanks!
So basically the only good thing on the shelf is the isopure? I brought the orgain protien and I feel like it's making me bloated after drinking it. I'm done with that one. So basically go to gnc?
I love core power drinks but if you go by Tom’s standards it contains Acesulfame potassium or Ace k and Sucralose which are no good, especially if fasting or doing Keto because they spike insulin. Ace k is the bigger problem with insulin spikes but studies show that Sucralose destroys your good gut bacteria. At least that’s what he says in his energy drink video.
Thomas, do you recommend protein powder if I'm not exercising/working out. I am just cutting calories and looking to up my protein intake. If so, what would you recommend? Thanks
He talked about them in the costco protein vid. You are getting milk protein (not even whey concentrate!) together with a bunch of chemicals. Hard pass.
I really appreciate these types of videos! They are so helpful. I’m clean Keto and have read that Sucralose is fine. Can you please tell us why you don’t approve? I’m not arguing, I’m asking for education :) I don’t want to sabotage my clean WOE. Also, if you could, when you cover several items can you either put up your ‘Thomas approved’ picture on all items you approve or set them up together at the end of the video? I hope that’s not asking too much, but when you cover a wide variety of products I appreciate it so much, but sometimes it’s hard to remember which ones you approved. Thank you for everything you do :)
I used to have the same issue especially at the speed he goes lol Now I use the pause button and write down his recommendations on a pad of paper. Works very well and I end up with a list that I take with me Cheers
I had a feeling that you were going to bust open C4 as well. I use C4 Sport regularly and it does have sucralose and blue #1 but it also has creatine monohydrate, beta alanine and other pre workout essentials. One scoop of that in my water 30 minutes prior to my workout makes me super strong. We're talking a difference of 20 additional reps that I would not be able to do without the supplement. I bought a tub of it at CVS on discount and only paid $13 and some change. It's worth every dime for the results I get. The only downside that I noticed is that it will raise your blood pressure sometimes. I only intend to use it for a limited time until it runs out and I maximize my gains. It's working very well so far and I like what I'm seeing in the mirror.
i use c4 sport, i bought it at costco, 26$ for 45 servings, super cheap, high energy. yes it has all those ingredients but they would be good if thy were in amounts to actually work. beta alanine, has to be 3.6g for max results, if you see a pre workout with 3.6 grams you can know they are science based and a good trusting point, creatine, the creatine is unnecessary as its probably just a filler, low quality/ potency. another con is the energy has no focus to combat it, my adhd just goes nuts when i take it, no feelings of the muscles contracting, less burn= less gains.
I’m glad this video is out here. Very informative and overall good content. Creatine is so good for aggressive cutting, it keeps you going when on a serious caloric deficit , used it to drop weight a while ago and I remember being able to work just fine with very little in my stomach

Tom, you said a lot of words that went right over my head, but at the same time, I learned a bunch. Awesome video
He is a super smart cookie ( cookie made with stevia, monk fruit or erythritol) lol
Thomas should make his own workout supplement line. Would buy no questions asked
Yes!!!!
true
YES... he would make 💰
And I would happily buy his supps

I like that idea!!
Would be nice. He'd put out a product without the added fillers/junk
I'm not a body builder but I've noticed that these shakes make a difference even if you're just running and doing regular pushups and situps.
What these shakes had effect on you ? Like what
I literally just started working out again while doing Keto and I was going to look up vids like this. Thank you for making this!!
I took Isopure and LOVED it for a very long time because it worked, and never upset my stomach, but then they increased their prices by almost 2x.. sad.

you motivated me to consume no flavor isolation protein powder. thank you. i’m tried of unnecessary shit. in the end we all just want protein
1lb of meat has more protein than you need.
I like these episodes, but is there any chance of doing something similar to this with Amazon.
Great idea
If a product says 0 sugar, better read the ingredients. Some products use artificial sweeteners, that I avoid . So read what is in the product you buy .
Seriously the crap these companies get away with is scary. How could you put stuff that goes completely against the reasoning for using these products? Just mind boggling to me. My confidence is non existent when I shop for nutritional care I spend 45 mins reading labels smh
Exactly, like the fake sugars and all that. It’s protein, not flavoring. Plus fake sugars are just bad in general.
They use fillers to increase profit.
Can you tell me what’s the best brand? There’s so my out here. My protein is usually eaten eggs or chicken. Or salmon.but I’m having trouble putting on muscle. I lift weights everyday
There's other good videos on what to look for, but you want simple ingredients and focus on whey isolate.
It's just sugary snacks if you think about it 😂😂
Thanks for your detailed analysis of many of the shelved protein products at Walmart!
Have you checked out Garden of Life plant protein powders yet? Don't know if you will get this since it's been 2ish years. Hope you are doing well...
Can you do a video on who should use them,, how you use them and why?
He already has. Just search him and protein powders on UA-cam
Man, I can't thank you enough for how informative this is for the every day consumer. I currently use Raw Organic Meal from Garden of Life. No hemp, unfortunately, like you recommended for the pea protein, but at least it doesn't have the artificial sweeteners. Keep up the good work.
"Ok, Isopure, I dont want to sound contrive" but nothing else here is good enough🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Yea, he is not plugging🤣🤣🤣
If it's a clean protein powder why not plug away huh?!? 🙂
Yea, I like how he mentioned Isopure are sponsors of this video. Then he praises Isopure over Dymatize and especially Optimum Nutrition , who have been in the industry for years.
@@gilbertocruz2051 Dymatize is def a good protein!
Didn’t review ON gold standard. What gives lol
If you want unflavored whey isolate, now sports has the same product for less than half the price
As someone who’s lactose intolerant, Muscle Milk makes the most sense to me mainly cause it has all the milk proteins without milk. The savings difference between it and IsoPure and all the rest is negligible. + I don’t use protein shakes that often so I won’t care about the high calories.
The best advice he gave was "Just take a whey protein isolate and add coconut milk"
If you are not a scientist at reading these chemical ingredients, just go back to basics
He said "coconut oil". Not milk.
Which minute he said that ?
@@mahmoudnaguib8928 3:50 but he says it in a way of meal replacement
The fact that Isopure is your sponsor, sort of puts you in the whole ‘conflict of interest’ spot.
This video came right on time. I was looking for protein powder last night and decided to wait
Wow, just a year ago and the prices are nearly HALF of what they were today when I went to WalMart looking for whey protein. I ended up getting the Gold Standard Whey and it cost $1.16 per gram, like $28 for 1.5 pounds.
yeah the prices went nuts, even the creatine was 9 $ now its 30. i recently bought the gold standard, 90$ for 5 lbs
Inflation is a MF right now.
Thank you Thomas for helping the rest of us make some sense of all those products. Great video!
Hey I'm considering to buy ISO100 since its one of the few known protein powders available in my country how is it other than taste?
It mixes very well. Some cheaper powders can clump up or feel grainy but ISO100 is very smooth and blends completely. Also, since it is hydrolyzed, it is easier to digest. While other types of whey protein can cause digestive distress. I've had no problems with the ISO 100. Also the hydrolyzed whey protein is absorbed faster than other whey proteins. Then you can get into recovery quicker after a work out.
“Edible glitter?!” WTF… are they making protein powders for children now??
@Violett Fem I’d expect for a woman to say that, lol, I had an ex who absolutely adored it, but even she- … well, nah, she’d love it 😂🤦🏽♂️, but I have absolutely NO use for ANY damn glitter, especially while trying to build muscle
That's so you can sparkle after a workout.

Can we get your opinion on garden of life protein? It’s another plant based one sold at Walmart but for some reason they hide it away in another section in the pharmacy. Was hoping it was included in this video but I totally understand why you missed it.
Dude. Is like a health expert. Encyclopedia. I have no idea what so,e of this stuff means. So glad you explain it
Thanks Thomas, great video and great information! I was just hitting you up on your Instagram DM about Walmart protein too. 70 pounds down since January and you’re a big reason for my continued life changing success. Love your due diligence and attention to detail. Hats off to you good sir!

What protein do you take?
I enjoyed your video.
What is the best protein on the market for weight loss?
Thank you for your information!!! This is so helpful! Could you do fasting/weight loss for women over 30??
Great idea! And for our daughters too?
Thank you bro for the break down cuz most of us really don't no and you the first to go into a store we all can shop at...love it!
I'm 2.5 hours away from a 72 hour water/black coffee only fast and I'm not even hungry. I'm a little freaked about it. I'm ready to gently break the fast.
Oh my goodness, I am insulin resistant and have been breaking my fast each day with the Body Fortress IP shake, the exact one you cover in this video (vanilla creme). I had no idea that caused a huge insulin spike!! Thank you for this video! I’ll be trying another brand.
I just Bought that Stuff days ago.. Uuurghh. Itll be alright. Most probably 99.9999 not buying it
all whey proteins, concentrate or isolate will spike insuline , and thats without any sucralose or acesulfame in it
in your case casein is the best option
Casein has the lowest insuline spike
Why didn't you check out the #2 rated protein from Optimum Nutrition the bag was right in front of you?
Optimum nutrition is not #1 in the world , Amazon helps the company get ranked high cuz Amazon can make a lot of money . It’s not high in protein . always check the nutritional information per 100 g not per serving . Check this one AppliedNutriotion ISO-XP whey protein isolate. Per 100 g --> 93.5 g of protein . 100% from grass-fed cows .
Preworkout:
EVL : Tastes like Blue Raspberry Sour patch kids. Hands get cold. Noticeably list more. Set aside 30minutes before heading to the gym for sitting on the toilet.
SixStar : Walgreens brand. Several flavors, not bad. Half the scoop size of EVL. Works okay. Less poop prep time.
Muscletech (not the one in this video) : Worked well, tasted good, quick poop and go.
Protein :
Optimal Nutrition ON : Only protein that blends perfectly when shaken. Even when there was a missing bag of it found 5 years later.
ISO : Had too much sugar for my to try.
BPI : Mixed decently when shaken.
Premier protein Drink : Taste good, drank it fast didn't seem to make a difference.
I love these videos too they are great! I would also love to see something about the best products out there, not just what you can get at Walmart or a chain store! I understand why these videos necessary of course but I think it would be great for those of us who try not to shop at the big box stores. I have some great health food stores in my area but they are packed with so many different products it's hard to pick out the best ones!
What are some of the best isolate protein powder out there
I'm surprised he found two that he liked. The video was informative and I'm thankful he took the time to break down the more con's than pro's for protein powders. When you don't know, you don't know!
What about the optimum nutrion protien? I was amazed when walmart started selling this brand of protien powder and also the beyond raw prework outs.
at the very end he compares to isopure and said it was a no brainer to go isopure because "on" has sucralose and artifical sweetners.
21:30
Curious how you managed to skip right over the Optimum Nutrition Whey that was on the shelf. Highly rated protein powder.
He skipped over the 6star whey isolate too. Probably paid not to talk about the best ones.
He did talk about it at around 21 minutes.
This should be top comment
Great comment. A lot of people on diets use the protein powder as their dessert and nasty shit wouldn't cut it
Really enjoyed this video but would like to see what protein powders are good for kidney health.
I've never seen a Walmart with that much of a selection. There's usually a tub or two in the discount section near the washroom. LoL. Where is this?
😂 people love to resell them on Amazon
Really enjoy all of your videos they are very informative and they really helped me become educated consumer, and to stay as healthy as I possibly can
Great information as usual and awesome timing.
I was researching protein shakes and you just gave me a couple of choices.
Thanks for all you do 💪
This is one of your best videos!!!! Thank you!!
Is optimum good
What are your thoughts on the core power protein drinks? They typically sold in the grocery drink section of Walmart not protein and supplements.
What do you think about the Equate Protein Powder Walmart brand at the bottom? It’s an isolate version with 30 grams of protein per scoop
I really aspire to have your level of knowledge one day. I've been studying this stuff every day, and still have a looong way to go.
Isopure, Gold standard, and Dymatize are definitely the top three you can buy
You had Gold Standard IN FRONT OF YOU and you just didn't talk about it...I know the other guys sponsor you but come on
He did talk about gold standard
How about gold standard?

Thomas, do you recommend protein powder if I'm not exercising/working out. I am just cutting calories and looking to up my protein intake. If so, what would you recommend? Thanks
You skipped all over the premier protein powder. I wanted to know your take on premier protein powder because that is what I use.
I was thinking the same thing!
He talked about them in the costco protein vid. You are getting milk protein (not even whey concentrate!) together with a bunch of chemicals. Hard pass.
Premier protein is discussed at the 16:17 timestamp

Would we get that 4x availability if you drink the EAAs during your workout and have whey afterward? Or does it need to be all at once.
How about a pre workout that has stevia rather than other sweeteners?

Great info! How do you feel about the Equate brand plant-based protein supplement the Pea and Quinoa Blend?
I used to have the same issue especially at the speed he goes lol
Now I use the pause button and write down his recommendations on a pad of paper. Works very well and I end up with a list that I take with me
Cheers
Exactly the vid I was looking for. Thx! The ending was a riot!
I was hoping he would review the equate one
Great video brother. Loved every minute of it
Thank you for the protein review I needed it.
Watching this at Walmart while looking for a good powder… thanks Thomas! 😄
