I often find it's the shoulders in garments where it's hard to get a good fit for petite sizes. Drop shoulders on tops often look out of proportion in the smaller size range. I choose a set-in sleeve where ever I can. Thanks for the tips and I completely agree about all the frills and ruffles. I've got quite a small neck and face so as nice as those styles of shirt can be on the hanger they look dreadful on me. 😄
@Johmakes I am glad you found it helpful. Yes I agree sometimes the proportions are out of sync. You might find this article helpful too capsuleclosetstylist.com/the-best-petite-brands/
@@Johmakes it's harder to fit shoulders and upper bust than the full bust but if you don't sew your own clothes, buy for the largest area of your body then get the rest of the garment tailored to fit you.
Thank you for reinforcing some basics for us petite women. I would like to see tips on a more casual type wardrobe. Now that I am retired I don't wear dresses very often but like to wear pants and tops in summer and sweaters and pants in winter since I am always cold. I also find that I don't see many suggestions for women with narrow shoulders and large busts. I still have somewhat of a waist (less than I use to) and hips. Thanks so much for your lovely videos and your cast is lovely.
@jalexander5801 Thank you for the feedback. In regards to small shoulders and a large bust it is hard for me to say without seeing you, but usually I would say a flutter sleeve and a V neck. If you want to book in for a consultation with me by all means do calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
I used to be super skinny so now I try to go the opposite way in styles but some styles don’t make me feel right sometimes so when I find clothes that feels good I use it as a guide. I do admire women who don’t care and wear any clothes, any color and every style because they feel beautiful. So if clothes feels good on you, WEAR IT! At the end it’s you in it so love yourself !😊 ❤
I love your suggestions for dressing the petite frame. Would you ever consider going over the color wheel and how to coordinate outfits using this tool? I have just reintroduced my self to using the color wheel to put outfits together for myself but still working on this concept. I am sure you are brilliant at this.
Great video with bags of tips and ideas Found this very helpful Thankyou Have been sorting my wardrobe out of late and your videos have been very useful. You have great suggestions. I have the problem of a ver high waist and a rectangular body shape at 5'1". Have you any recommendations for looking smart-casual? I am 72. Thanks.
Not only is this woman extremely talented, she's gorgeous in every way. What a lovely human. I'm not particularly into fashion, yet I'm so glad I found this channel. Brilliant tips and ideas for looking less like a frumpy swamp witch 😅! The greatest difficulty for me is finding emperor waist-style clothing that doesn't break the bank. At least here in Australia. I love that style.
@tamsin1969 Ah thank you so much! You made my day haha!I am pretty sure you never look like a frumpy swamp witch haha but that is what I like about Australians they don't hold back haha! If you can not find that style just try to look for something that is either shaped under the bust or flat across it then gently flares out skimming the tummy.
I’m 5’4” in about your body style. people always have thought I was much taller and I never understood why and they could never tell me. I do everything wrong! I wear black pants with a white button-down.😂 one of my favorite looks on you is the white striped top with white belted pants. Maybe because there’s so much white in the outfit it doesn’t appear to cut you off. Either way, it looks, darling on you.❤
@mamalovesthebeach437 Ah thank you I appreciate that. I love a Breton top. It is a great capsule staple. No I never feel short apart from when my daughter likes to pat me on the head now she is 18 and about three inches taller than me haha!
Hi. I am new to your chanel and absolutely enjoy your videos. I am 67, 5' 1" and a plus size US16 18. We have moved from Canada to Panama 1 month ago. I do have a fair bit of clothing, most of which are in a shipping container on its way here. I am top heavy 44D and have a belly. I have a lot of natural fabric clothing, linen and cotton. I find that if I try to belt dresses I look silly. The belt will automatically climb to just below my chest. Also I have large upper arms. This is a tropical country and very humid. I am learning to accept the arms to avoid wearing 3/4 or long sleeves. Panama does not have "big girl" clothing stores. I want to look good but finding myself at a loss to make what I have work. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Lynn
@garthandlynnrixonanddemers5728 Hi Lynn, Thank you for your message. Yes this can be very tricky. Definitely go for what you have been with the cottons, linens and even silk and lightweight maerio wool can allow the skin to breathe. In regards to cut, try an empire line or a cut that is relatively flat across the bust then comes in a little and gently flares over your tummy. That way you come in a little but it still skims over your tummy and does not cling in that heat. Something like this rstyle.me/+KPNhFqL3rDAwjjBB0vnidQ or this rstyle.me/+0LsnQNgc_n90N-axLZtcYg I hope that helps.
A-line works for skirts and belted dresses. Also midi length not short. Contemporary a-line now is called fit and flare and has been popular for a while.
Very comprehensive video!! A couple things that help me, and I'm only 5' tall, are first, STAND TALL and erect! Second, and I noticed you did this, leave a little of your arm showing at the end of your sleeves to give your arms the appearance of being longer. Long sleeves that come to my wrist I've found actually make my arms look short. The exception is a top that's a thin fabric and the sleeves are very clingy. Second, a v-neck also lengthens, and it doesn't have to be a deep v, just open at the throat like your classic shirt. But don't wear cropped pants! Your pants should come down to your ankles or just below them. You don't want to shorten your legs. Anything that visually lengthens the look of your body below the waist helps; like an empire waistline, nipped in just under the bust like you advised. I love the picture of the Cavalier on your screen. The best pets. I had two and miss them very much (they have both passed). Color can be a huge help or hindrance, and thank you for explaining that. I will pay more attention to it in the future!
@Mrs.Patriot You are very welcome I am glad you enjoyed it. Ah, bless you. Those cats are real characters, aren't they? Great tips there and help for everyone else too.
Hi can I ask a question: why do all you stylists think it’s ok to wear Birkenstocks , when most of you say we must elongate our feet by nude and slightly pointed shoes when I think Birkenstocks are the most ugliest clumsy looking footwear along with crocs ,that anyone can wear , they look big and clumsy and cover most of our foot. Many thanks in advance to a reply. First time watching you,but will subscribe .
@jacquiliddell7680 Hi Jacqui, great question. I do not say anything about elongating the leg with nude or pointy shoes because I do not wear either. That said, I agree with the idea behind that suggestion. I wear Birkenstocks because I like them. I have wide feet and do a lot of walking, so they are ideal for me. If you watch a few more of my videos, you will see that I hardly ever wear heels of any sort. My feet can not cope haha. That said, I do not begrudge others for doing so. I think the answer to your question is that when you create channels like this, you cater to many different personal style preferences, so try to give more generalised advice. But in addition, what YOU love as an individual is equally if not more important. I always say with my videos, take the bits you like and ignore the bits you don't like. I am happy and confident that my advice is correct even if I sometimes tweak it to my personal preferences, which I encourage others to do too. I hope that helps 😊
@@capsuleclosetstylist thank you for answering my question, albeit that Birkenstocks are comfortable , but I don’t think they do anything for style, would a more stylish comfortable sandal be more flattering, yes I will watch more of your content thank you x
@@jacquiliddell7680@jacquiliddell7680 See, I like them, particularly the leather in this colour, so I would not choose another pair. If you dislike them, you can choose a different style. Just for the record, Jesus-style sandals worn with socks are in this winter. I would not go that far, haha!

@cathmackenzie74 Great question. So most of the advice here would still apply but I would wear darker matt colours on your bottom half and add the fun at the top. So for example maybe an interesting pice of jewellery or a silk scarf that hangs straight down the front. For pants avoid side pockets and go for slanted pockets in a straight or wide (ish) leg. I hope that helps. If you still need help book in for. consultation with me. calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation

@hilarycohen1470 Great question. I think because it has the large white block at the top and the stripes do not go across the shoulders it is ok. That said, like I said in the video I have never felt petite. It used to be under 5'1 but now it is under 5'4 which I am. So I know that clean lines work best for me but I also might have a little bit of tint person dysmorphia haha!
