I love the grey sweater with the black trim on you: Your glasses are a reflection of your style, looking great with your glasses. Try wearing modern prints, scarves, jewelry in your favorite colors.
This is the first time I’ve watched your channel and the entire time I was thinking “Yes!” “You are so right” and so on!! I’ve always gone with more tailored clothes whether more casual or dressy. What a breath of fresh air!!! 🤗
@joannagooney8342 That is ok like I say if you like something you stick to it. I think black is fine it is the really patterend ones that can look a little dated. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I was a teenager in the 60s and loved my Levi’s then, still love em now, I must admit to going up a size but still a Levi girl 😀Love your style and channel ❤️
I was very happy to find I don’t wear, or even own, any of the clothes you featured, having said that I do have a baggy sweatshirt but it’s for in house use only 😅
Oh, I know you are right about embellished tops and jeans but I do love embellished fabrics. I don't have any of those pieces in my wardrobe right now and I do appreciate the clean line of the suggestions you made. Would it be alright to work details like that into accessories like my handbag?
@martast.john-anders6448 I think the most important thing is that you wear what you like. Even if it is an embellished top. I think yes if you add it to bags etc that can work well. In fact bag charms are big this year!
Hi I love your videos! I never know what to wear. After surgery I now have a large apron tummy and after years if not exercising im now a size 22. I never know what to wear for bug boobs a large tummy and skinny legs. I would really like advice on what I could wear for casual wear. Thanks Debs
@DebsOllerenshaw Hello ah i am glad you are finding them helpful. So have you seen this video? It addresses ways to hide a tummy. ua-cam.com/video/C4NIm5FJ1js/v-deo.html. If you still nee help book in for a consultation with me and we can have a chat about how I might be able to help you. calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
@maryramsbottom5048 Thank you for the feedback. Yes I do not usually film there. On this particular day the winter sun was incredibly bright and quite honestly blinding so I had to move locations last minute.
Yes, as you age you will become more invisible. You can fight it. Grow your hair, color it. Smile. Wear cheery colors. Get contacts. Buy good quality clothes. Stand tall.
Wear your hair anyway you like and rock the gray, too. Artifice can't hold a candle to selfconfidence in who you are. Be visible by being out there and using your talents on behalf of otgers!
@ElleRogers-jp7wq Yes that must be very difficult. Have you seen this video? it is not dedicated to those in a wheelchair but it is solely about accessories ua-cam.com/video/vroa8cmLV54/v-deo.html
I like silk neck-scarves because they bring the eye up to the face. They also add femininity, elegance, color and pattern. I often wear them with a solid-color dress or separates to add interest. I learned this 40 years ago from two French colleagues who always looked so wonderful! I have often worn them, trending or not, ever since. Nice earrings and/or a necklace are great, too.🙂
Love your suggestions but it was interesting how every "frumpy" example you showed was of a larger lady and every better alternative was of a very slim lady.
Hi Helen, great point this was unintentional. So I subscribe to Adobe so I can legally use images in my videos. I can only pick out what is available as I would have to pay hundreds for a single image otherwise. I hadn’t intended this to turn out like this but am limited for any images of women over 40. I do try and represent as broadly as possible but as I do this for free, there is only so far the budget will stretch. That said once this was pointed out it will be something I’ll look out for in the future
Hi, my problem is shoes. I have a painful bunion and it limits shoes and therefore how I feel about what clothes to wear with “practical” shoes…….and then there is the issue of being top heavy and ageing!!! Hmmm…..maybe quite a few problem areas
@fionasykes7837 Oh bless you. Have you looked at fitville? they have comfortable shoes in wider fittings too. I am not sure if they are to your taste though.
Calla Shoes designs their shoes for those with bunions and other foot problems, and they’re high quality. My toes are slightly wide, C width, but most shoes say B width, but are really A because they skimp on the expensive leather. They claim it’s because a slender toe shape looks better, but that’s nonsense, it’s all about their cost. I had bunions during my whole career because I was required to wear pumps, but at least low heeled ones were ok. Still with “mid-heels”, 2 to 3 inches high, I had constant foot problems. The good news is that if you wear only properly-sized, well-made leather shoes, the body will re-absorb the bunions in a few years. Try Calla and other shoe brands that specialize in wider toe-boxes or just wider widths in general, it will help. Never wear plastic footwear, it doesn’t stretch, soften or mold to the foot like genuine leather and suede does. Woven or perforated leather/suede stretches even more. Also, nice leather sneakers are acceptable for most outfits these days. I hope these tips help, friend🙂
I think most cardigans are frumpy. They’re way too long and have no shape or structure. The only ones I like end somewhere between my waistband and the very top of my hipbones. Because I’m petite, “cropped” styles often work well on me, they just cover my (high-rise) waistband. Any top or sweater that hangs down to the thighs gives a blocky, brick shape, so I avoid them. I like to show both my waistband area and my leg break area because this shows our feminine shape and the full length of our legs. I’ll sometimes wear a short cardigan as a top with a patterned silk neck scarf that has a color or two from the outfit in it, this looks good, unlike those long ones. I have two long cashmere cardigans, because everyone insists that we “need them in our wardrobes”, but I rarely wear them even when alone at home, I don’t need them. They just don’t feel elegant or flattering. If I want comfortable warmth indoors for the office, a restaurant, etc., I’ll wear a cotton-knit blazer (from Ralph Lauren). The structure makes them look so much better, but they are just as comfy as a big, sloppy cardigan. I’ve been adding small, straight-edge shoulder pads to mine and love what they do for my shape. I would avoid the rounded-shoulder ones and any bigger than 1/4- or 1/2-inch thick. They’re easy, if tedious, to add to any unlined jackets or sweater. (I put on a book to listen to, then stitch them on, one jacket at a time). Makes sure they say washable and dry-cleanable, too.
My old patterned leggings are in my “painting clothes” drawer in my garage, along with my old big t-shirts and out-of-style, but comfy clothes. I only wear these for house-painting, obviously, and working with messy things like tar, or glue, not that I do anything like that very often! I’m a lady or leisure now that I’m retired and avoid as much messy work as possible. I even have old socks and shoes so I don’t ruin good ones when I do “projects”. I think these messy-work clothes should be removed from the regular wardrobe, unless you’re the only woman in the world who actually has too much wardrobe space! (I’ve never known one). Don’t wear old t-shirts, etc. as pajamas or loungewear, they’re bad for our self-esteem. Treat yourself to clothes for at home as nice as for those you wear put and about. Anything that’s stained, stretched or worn out/has holes must go with the “painting clothes” or out the door, life’s too short to wear these mood-destroyers. Cashmere pants and sweater “loungewear sets”, silk PJs, nightgowns and robes, and cashmere robes are very good for us in every way! We all deserve: fresh flowers, scented candles, cuddly cats, luxury fabrics for all occasions and, above all, love!❤
I have good legs and like to wear leggings but I don't feel right showing my butt in them even if they are thick and opaque (I have a nice pair of thick black wool leggings). So I pair them with a long cardigan just so my butt is a bit covered. I think it looks nice (fitted in one area and looser in another area) but maybe I'll have to give it a 2nd look and see if I'm coming off frumpy. The cardigan I have is merino wool - thin and drapey, no buttons. It adds a lot of warmth which is nice when moving between different places with their AC blasting. Also I am 5'10" so I don't worry about long things dragging me down or making me look short. What do you think about leggings and whether your top should cover your butt or not?
@katietatey It is difficult to say without seeing it and you, but if it works for you, then I would say to keep it. If it does have a belt with it, I would maybe wrap it around with that or tie it at the back so it gives it a little more shape.
Jersey isn't good on anyone. I like baggy pants as I have medical issues with my legs but I always do a more fitted top. I only wear them at home. I really like your videos 🎉

@stellacollins3114 I think that is fine. I do too. This is not hard a fast rules but just a guide anyway.
Great advice x love what you are wearing x are they trousers?
@amandaprice8705 Yes, they are! They are very quirky, but I love them. They are from Emmy Design Sweden.

Enjoying your channel. Background collaged wardrobevery cute, but I honstly find it very distracting. Just a thought. Tganks
@maryramsbottom5048 Thank you for the feedback. Yes I do not usually film there. On this particular day the winter sun was incredibly bright and quite honestly blinding so I had to move locations last minute.
I agree with everything and I have none of it in my wardrobe!
@MollyStraight-r1k Ah that is a shame. Well only add anything if you really like it otherwise give it a miss.
The longer cardigans will look better if you g 10:23 o monochrome and belt the inner layer.
yes see above

@maryramsbottom5048 This is all very true
I agree with all except the contacts, I can’t get a prescription because of an eye problem from over-using them in the past.
I would like tipss on accessories. I am in a wheelchair and I am 87, Ig is hard for me to look my best.

@americafirst9144 Yes you can do this. I was referring more to the ones without belts that just hang.
Personally I find Iook my best in structured clothing. This echoes your examples: soft, flowy, shapeless clothing is not our friend as we age.
@JaneAE2024 I agree
Structure is a gal’s best friend, I agree! I love tailored, structured clothes in luxurious, soft natural fibers.🙂
