  • Video showing my steps on how to replace an alternator in a 2007 Ford Escape with 3.0L engine. I decided to take it out through the top for my situation. The job took me a weekend. I took my time to avoid breaking anything. It's a challenge to take out, but with patience, it's possible to do this job at home with standard tools. The only tool I had to buy was a torx set to get the E8 & E10 sockets for the alternator stud bolt. The magic step for me was to remove two of the three studs from the alternator to allow removal and installation through the top of the engine.

The new alternator shown in this video for my 2007 Ford Escape was ordered from @partsavatar (partavatar.ca). The part is a new alternator from REMY (S/N 92542).

I am currently at the shield removal process, and the thing is the alternator is not even the issue! It's my timing chain cover that the gaskets have totally failed! But in order to replace the cover gaskets I have to remove the alternator plus PS and AC......I am currently cursing every God know in existence! Dealer was asking 3K tom rewove engine and fix.....makes me wonder!

Assuming you're referring to the 8mm top bolt for the plastic cover piece, try this:
-disconnect the electrical clip & feed post (can be done from top or bottom)
-remove holding bolts for the alternator
-spin around body to expose the top bolt and access from bottom
-OR raise alternator body on a block of wood and access from top
-make sure the jack height is sufficient & use a deep well socket
      Hope that helps

Forgot to mention, remove the horn plastic piece for easier access from the top

Your right, its a mother F--Ker to get out. Took me 6 hours just to get mine out. That top bolt was a pain in the ass. I going to change it for a standard bolt. Today I have to put the new one in. I'm not looking forward to it.
