      Wow … how many times have I discarded strips of fabric?! But never again. What a brilliant tutorial. Thank you. I often make thinner cord with a lucet (I’ve even made shoelaces) but the fabric cording opens up masses more options. ❤️

    This is such a fun & useful idea! As a lifetime quilter/seamstress I have a room full of fabric, tools, machines, etc... In addition, i have inherited my mother's sewing things. She was a heirloom seamstress, making lovely baby dresses, wedding dresses, etc... all in silks, Swiss & French cottons and beautiful laces. Being a quilter I save the tiniest of scraps and have saved them for almost 50 years. I plan on spending the rest of my life using them up (in addition to my quilts and dresses). The way you've developed this slow stitching would make a wonderful way to teach youngsters to sew. I have a granddaughter who is 7 and anxious to learn. Of course I cant wait to teach her and put together a sewing basket for her. Currently Im hand piecing small quilt blocks. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea. Its amazing to see how many people are interested. I suppose, because sewing is usually a solitary activity, i forget there are others who do the same thing and do msny who want to learn. Thank you for doing this snd sharing your lovely creations.

      My pleasure, your collection of cloth and laces sound scrumptious ❤️ yes I do believe the slowstitch ethos is great for children and in fact novices of all ages, because there are few rules, no emphasis on perfect results and it teaches respect for materials and to enjoy the process. I am truly overwhelmed with the response also, and of course delighted. It feels a little like a cyber sewing bee, community connection through the internet. 😁❤️

Your UA-cam channel popped up so of course I had to see what you were all about. I love your channel. I first saw you making the fabric baskets. I have made the fabric baskets using my sewing machine and clothes line cord. Then I watched you hand sew the basket…then I had to watch this video to learn how to make the twine. Now I have a new craft. I like this because it’s a craft I can take with me in the car….on the plane or when I am sitting for a while. It is all so fascinating. I used my drop spindle to twist the fabric into 'thread''/cord and now I'm trying to figure out if I can spindle the 2 colors into a plied cord.
    It works with yarn when I re-ply it into new colors! lol
    Not sure how this is going to go. I like the bulk and strength of using cloth strips for shoulder pouch straps and can think of thousands of things to make now [exaggeration]!
    I want to make matching twist piping for a jacket I'm about to finish. Should work. lol
    Thanks so much for the inspiration and lesson! {I like your version of this project for road trips - no tools to poke my hands over lumpy roads, just a bag of cloth strips - the time will fly because I will be concentrating hard on this project!}

    Thank you , I enjoy watching and learning . I think making cloth twine should come with an addiction warning, it’s so quick and satisfying to make something from nothing . I made some twine , and then had to made a rice bag to use it, and now I’m on my way to making a bowl. I like that you say ‘ you do you’ , although I like to tear cloth and know I’m on the straight of grain , for my twine I don’t like all the strands of thread so now I cut it, a lot slower but that’s fine .
    Thanks again.

    4:03 I learned this at school with wool. Another person takes one end and you both twist in opposite directions until tight. You can use one strand or 2 looped through each other to make 2 colours. One of you then grasps the middle with 2 fingers and shakes it rapidly. The 2 sides then rapidly twist together like magic. It may work with fabric too. Love all your creations!

    Many many years ago my nanna taught us to use a door knob and twist it with a knitting needle but this may be easier. I’ll have to give it a try.

      There are many ways to do it indeed, this is just the way I learnt years ago and what I love is the only tools you need are your fingers so you can do it anywhere as long as you have strips of cloth. 😁❤️

    The twining you demonstrate is essentially what happens when yarn is "plyed" together on a spinning wheel. So, with that being said and not having read all the comments here, I'm wondering if anyone has tried twining/plying fabric strips on their wheels? Oh dear....yet another project idea to warrant dusting off my wheel! ❤

      I am not a spinner but do believe I read a comment somewhere from someone saying they had tried it and I think it worked but don't quote me 😁😁
