How fun. I definitely see a rice bag in my near future. Thank you
❤
Well, that young bloke sounds like a bit of an a….hole. 😂😜 Sounds like you dodged a bullet there! Love your stitches this week, it really finishes off the piece as a whole. Thanks again Kathryn for all your videos. ❤ I am following along and doing the journal also, although I’m a bit stuck with this week. I’m not that good with words so might put what I’m thinking into drawing and painting again.
This is just so wonderful Kathryn. I can actually just feel the feels. I am pea green with jealousy as I am still not able to stitch yet, post-surgery. You’re just making me wanna stitch so badly. love this project!
Hi Kathryn! I used to have a fridge magnet in one of the many places I lived in, that said "Home is where your heart is". My heart is always with my little family. What do you think about the neologism "stitchiography", meaning sort of "stitching biography"? Just in cese, a disclaimer: English is not my mother tongue. The comfort cloth is looking more beautiful every week. Big hug! ❤
Thank you, Kathryn. I especially like the look of the barely wonky honeycomb stitch. Provides a lovely density to expand the design. See you soon.
Is your cat spayed? He would not be fighting with other cats if he was. It is competition for territory and females. Hormonal. That wild indoor behavior might mean he is in heat. Good luck. We have to put up with a lot for ❤ of furry friends.
I've moved A LOT in my life - currently on address number 22 (thanks to my father's and husband's careers)! For me, home is where the people I love are. I hate packing, but quite enjoy unpacking and setting things up in a new place. And I find once I've cooked a roast dinner in the oven and had a soak in the bath, then I'm "home".
Kia ora Kathryn, thanks for another great stitch along video. I done blanket stitch last week but all good because i enjoy using that stitch. ❤
That is really lovely Kathryn. I can’t wait to see what is next. As for what is “home”, I haven’t figured that out yet. I am always trying to do things here to make it feel like “home”. So if I am to be honest, I am not sure what is home to me. But I think it probably is wherever all my project supplies are. I hope FredFred is feeling better soon! Poor thing! ❤
Oh wow! What a wonderful surprise to come on and realize you were talking about the possibly 100 year old needles we discussed. It is so lovely to see you using them on your Coverlet of Comfort. The extra bonus is you are doing blanket stitch which is my favorite stitch. And if all that wasn’t an amazing treat you added that little piece of thread on your heart. I am truly honored. And yes, that was the thread I used to stitch the little needle pouch I sent the needles in. So we have officially used the same needle and thread. How cool is that! My heart is full. 💜
Thanks so much! That was lovely Kathryn. I love your whittling away. Never a need to apologize. But I get it, I am a constant "I am sorry" person, and I don't mean it insincerely. I was lucky as a child as I was born and raised in the same town, same home. But I did move away to college and subsequently moved 14 more times in my 63 years of life. In two of the States were five moves in each of those two states. I am a creature of habit and I love nesting, so moves for me are very disruptive to my mind/body/spirit connection. Hugs to Fred Fred and tell him I am so sorry.
Paul Young! 😂😂 wow, can't remember the last time I heard one of his songs (will be doing that later😅) and poor you having gone through that.. but yes, his loss most definitely ❤ I like the look of the stitches radiating out, very nice indeed so I'll be incorporating some on my cloth 😊 Don't know if you've felt the same at any point, but not all houses (15) that I've lived in have felt like home, it's a bit weird to explain. I did not enjoy moving around with my family to 3 countries when I was young because I lost so many friends, I didn't see my grandfather much, I was always the new girl in school and not to mention the language barriers. It may sound stupid, but even after marrying and creating my own home, sometimes the best and only place where I feel really at home is laying in my bed, preferably under a warm blanket 😅 Take care Kathryn and I hope Fredfred stays out of trouble ❤
Oh my goodness! Fredfred is almost exactly the same age as our kitty Rosie!! ❤
When you talk about Fred Fred’s exploits I imagine him out in the wild speaking cheeky French to the English cats! 🐈⬛ 😂😂
Thank you for sharing
Love the gorgeous books you got and just wanted to mention (in case no one else has yet) that you can scan pages/illustrations of out-of-copyright books and potentially share or sell them as digital images. Don't know if you would want to go to the trouble, since it would take a bit of work to scan, post, etc. but digital pages seem to be quite popular and it's a potential extra income stream, if you're interested in pursuing it. Thanks as always for the information-rich suggestions and examples in your work and for your soothing and comforting presentation. Much love from North Carolina, USA.
I found it interesting that I was foot dragging doing this project, then I got started today determined I would find a positive end...and then after I got my idea and materials ready, I pasted my first collage paper down on the RIGHT side of my spread when you said (at about 30:38} you found yourself almost hurrying to get the dark side done and on to the light (right) side. I thought...ooops! here I am working on the right side first. Sort like eating the dessert first eh? I hope I do finish dark side.
beautiful work,i just know each stitch is stitched with love xx
Nine homes for me.
I’ve always said I can be happy and make a home anywhere. I think on reflection, this says alot about me personally and my resilience. Because wow, have I had to be resilient in some situations in this life. I’m happy where I am in my little country cottage and my heart is definitely here 🏡💚
Lovely video and stitching today, Kathryn. Thank you for being real. I've been writing a memoir on and off for the past eight years (slow memoir!). Slow stitching these personal pieces feels very similar, but more intuitive and free. 😊❤
I'm so sorry but I was a bit upset trying to see you working 😢 yr work was to high up .. but thankyou for your chat and I'm feeling some of the old Katherin ❤❤❤❤❤
I very much enjoy hearing your thought process when deciding what to do next 🙂…. Firstly, Home to me is anywhere those I care about are 🥰. ..other than that it’s my the little nest that I can call my own 😊
Can't see you working 😮
Stitching Memoir
I think 'Home is where the heart is'. ❤
Maybe it's the time of year ... I heard 'boy cats' were fighting here in the neighbourhood too. But that isn't nice if one of those cats is your Fredfred and he gets hurt. 😾
What a horrible way to get "dumped "by a guy! My goodness!!!!! 🤨
Glad FredFred is doing better. Boys will be boys, until they sort things out. How long have you had Shella and FredFred. They may also have had multi-homes too. I have had 21 homes, two which I owned. First in Canada, then in the states, East coast-West coast and back to East coast. WOW, didn't realize it was that many. Liked the honeycomb. 💛💚💛
❤
I love what you do, ❤😊
Katherine, your so adorable. Im following along with you at my computer screen and mumbling along with you and finger pointing at my screen, "no, use that other saying", or what have you. It's pretty hilarious. It feels like were in a stitching, book making class together at the same table!
Thank you that's so lovely 😊 I wonder if I would do as you say if we were in the same room? 😂❤️
OH YOUR SKIRT is Delicious…..You can dress that up or down……reminder to not deny our Thrift Shops here in the States and abroad…What a Treasure!……cross stitching while You share your storytelling “bits and bobs” ( my son-in law from NI says that and I love how it feels on my tongue working it onto my vocabulary……hahaha)
I love it, I think it was something like £3, absolute bargain 😁❤️
Have you googled Mr. Wherever My Hat Is? I'm betting he's a miserable old coot barely hanging on to his last friend in the world. A pox on him. Also, love the blanket stitching on your coverlet.❤
😂 Thank you so much Michelle for the chuckle, you never let me down! I can't remember his first name, I have a feeling it began with D, and I certainly can't remember his surname. Love 'a pox on him', very Shakespearean 😂❤️
I knew instantly when you asked what home means to us. Home was my marriage to my late husband. We lived many, many places, on both sides of the Atlantic and both coasts of the US, but home meant the two of us, no matter where we were living. Thank you for a terrific video, as always.
I am so sorry you lost him Meg but what a blessing to have had such a relationship ❤️
Auto-bio-stitchography Comfort Cloth. Well, that would be a mouthful for you to say each week.🤣
It would indeed! 😂
I love your honeycomb stitch, I don't think I've ever seen anyone do a tutorial about it. I will definitely be using it in my work. I love the way you've decorated your park home. Its so Kathryn😊
Thank you Donna ❤️
Thank you for another beautiful slow stitch video. I am so excited as the flannel sheet (used) I bought came, and now I can stitch on the mom and me collaboration quilt. She pieced a nine-patch quilt top when she was still alive but never finished it. 25 years later, I don't think she will mind if I finish it. I am going to call it The Seventies Quilt because she most likely pieced it in the 1970s, and she would have been in her early 70's. Here i am, now, in my 70's. So the quilt name seems appropriate. I think somewhere I will stitch a 70 on it and stitch out its story. LOL, it is going to take me a while. It will be my comfort cloth, and I will be using inspiration from your videos. Instead of the heart you put on your piece, I am thinking of hand-stitched little fabric birds (more work) to put on the nine patches. Thank you again. I enjoy your videos.
Thank you Meri, I look forward to seeing your quilt develop ❤️
I just relaxed and enjoyed watching and listening to you. I was homeless for almost a Year. Now, I can say I am a stronger person I appreciate much more and my inspiration to make something fron nothing if that makes sense. How you have put your hone together is beautiful and I live the colours. Thank you for helping me make my little hone again ❤😂
I am so sorry you were homeless, that must have been tough. ❤️
It was Paul Young, the singer. Lol
Your piece is looking amazing … I’m enjoying watching it grow and develop. Thank you for sharing. Hope FredFred is back to normal now 😘
Very effective the more you do ….liked your skirt….Paul young of sad cafe I remember well as he was a neighbour and was always a big deal to pass him in the street…sad story though😢
I think Sad Café was a different Paul Young, the one who sadly passed away I think? I loved Everyday Hurts back in the day ❤️
I am 77 and have lived in 4 homes all within 8 miles of each other. I really like the blanket stitch you were doing, looks like lace x
I am loving this process. The idea of an auto-bio-stitchery really appeals to me quite a bit, and I’m looking forward to February’s theme of home. Don’t worry about us no being able to see as your stitched- getting to sit and stitch “with” you each week is such a blessing, and if we were both sitting in the same room I wouldn’t be able to see your work constantly, so it’s okay to just hear your voice! I have always loved the look of this honeycomb stitch but have been intimidated by it for some reason. Thank you for the clear explanation and for being the gentle nudge for me to actually try it!
Thank you for your patience and kind words ❤️
Stitching honeycomb stitch on the latest scroll, likely to be associated with Paul Young and hats now.... trying to recall the authors name.... Jeanette something? Winterton? Deliberately not heading across to Aunty Google.... loving the theme of home to consider this week/month. I know I'm going to need and want to leave the lovely rural, muddy old place I'm currently in while I still have good vision and all my faculties. Know I need to be within walking distance of shops and cafés and transport systems before it's too near to being too late. My parents bought this in 1965 when I was eight, and I returned (after having an eclectic life and career etc) to look after mum and her dementia 13 years ago The sadness of leaving the long term rented place in which I raised my children and was a much loved home to come here has been worked with, much as you're working thru your transition now. Choosing to see it as an exciting move, but oh so much to clear and decide.....there were three generations of stuff in this old house. Onwards we go and thank goodness for being retired and lots of days know to stitch and muse and ponder and listen to your delightful sharings....
Jeanette Winterson.. yes moving home can be an exciting adventure or very sad, or even both at the same time can't it.. ❤️
Paul Young (a big crush of mine) (I was indeed yelling at you)! First recorded by Marvin Gaye. AS ever, a fabulous, soothing video with loads of interest. Especially the old needles. Made things to last back then they did :) Oh, and a count of 8 houses here.
It's such a shame that idiotic boy ruined the song for me 😂❤️
If later you have a area needs attention from unraveling you could just add a patch. It would just add to the overall charm.❤ Great video..have watched multiple times
Thank you Pam, yes that's the lovely thing about this way of working isn't it ❤️
Thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial and for mentioning Marion. I agree she is a inspiration in all she does as are you. ❤ 2nd viewing ❤
My mother, 89, is currently living in her 18th home. I am living in my 10th (four of which were in my childhood) since 2000, I have only lived in two homes. Thanks for the thoughts about home! Love the blanket stitching.
