I love the idea of using up those small fabric pieces that a lot of us think are useless. I try really hard not to throw anything out, so appreciate having another option to use them up.

Sure you can, free motion embroidery is done by normal sewing machine. Just need a free motion embroidery foot which you can find it on line.

Wouldn't it be easier to cut the bondaweb in the shape you want before adding the fabric? That's how I have always done it.
Orrrrr skip bondaweb and make your own with wax paper and school glue, its just to keep the scraps in place.
