I like to add a strong note in here, cleaning filter is the basic part. But, adding oil to the filter is not recommended for forced induction engines that have a mass air flow sensor. The oil will pass through the sensor. That can cause incorrect air readings and possible damaged to the sensor. I do not recommended heavily applying oil to the filter.
I have the same question as this 💯 I'm technologically and electronically inclined and can install a residential heating and cooling system blindfolded, but I am mechanically (automotive) illiterate, borderline ignorant maybe, though I tend to do great when looking up these how to videos and I've kept this 98 Dodge RAM 1500 5.9l V8 running fairly decent I think, but like I mentioned with my illiteracy in automotive, if I hadn't seen this video I might not have known filter oil even existed, so now that I've heard of it, I'm confused, is it necessary, and right now I'm just needing an easy diy cold air intake filter cleaning that doesn't have to be like licensed certified mechanic quality or factory or dealership detail, just something that will help this thing breath for a few more weeks until I can get a new one 💯🤷🥴😁✊😎🙏🙏💯🔥
I'm getting really confused with the accent. Sometimes it's obviously American, and then I hear some kiwi and then some Aussie accents... really throwing me off 😂
thanks for the video. even though I'm mechanically inclined i have never used custom parts. thank you very useful . . greetings from Colima MEXICO . . .
Great vid thanks, I’m cleaning my BSR Optiflow filter tomorrow with a Maptun cleaning kit (same as K&N sell) but also have a old Blitz Sonic Power & ITG Maxogen filter here I’d like to try on the car. Both need cleaning first. I think the Blitz filter has a metal gauze, can cleaning kit be used in these aswel? Read different info on the blitz some say it’s a dry filter some say to oil it?
jackbrightside if there’s left over dirt/particles after washing the oil when it dries will get those particles to stick to itself instead of the particles going through the filter and into the engine, same concept applies after driving it around for a while the oil will block a lot of the particles and will keep your intake clean for a lot longer
I'd just let it air dry inside the house, maybe over a vent or something during the night. Just make pop it back onto the car before you leave in the morning. Hope this helps!
If you allow proper time for the filter to dry you can use water and dish soap. Also you dont spray the outside of the filter, you spray pressurized water in the inside to push the debris out, the air only flows in catching dirt, not out. Third this doesnt need to be part of anyone daily routines, its only needed 3-4 times a year and thats if you have an open box intake(cold air intake). Thanks for telling me how to spend extra money to make up for common sense.
i just have a fuzzy cotton filter from corksport for my gay slow mazda 3. there isn't any oil used on it. is your house spotless as well? you wouldn't want me as a friend lol.
Why do u want this oil to be sucked into your engine ? Get in your intercooler and on the turbo blades etc etc forget the airflow meter coz people argue does it effect the airflow meter or not if it does or not why do u want fine oil in your intercooler 🤷♂️ just go to dry flow
The best way to service one of these pieces of junk is to replace it with a paper filter so you actually keep dust out of the engine. That one's so bad I can see the holes in it on video.
DonziGT230 How much shit do you need to stop? There is a damn good reason you don’t see the old paper filters on high performance vehicles. Now shut the fuck up unless you know what you are talking about.
2:35 "I haven't cleaned it in 3 or 4 months"
Me: *Haven't cleaned mine since I got my car* Ah.
Yo same 😅
These are the type of UA-cam vids we need
Starts at 2:50

What’s the benefit of spraying air filter oil into it? Is it necessary?

Not all air filters use oil
i could skip the oil stuff, right? my filter is an older cylindrical type
Hey, so it's like winter here, and freezing out. So how do I get the filter to dry from the sun? ☀️
I'd just let it air dry inside the house, maybe over a vent or something during the night. Just make pop it back onto the car before you leave in the morning. Hope this helps!

Mate do yourself a favour and get a good quality panel filter and use the original box as it keeps the air cool which means more power.

No. They've been tested under laboratory conditions and proven to not be as good as paper.
