D2 player with about ~4.5k hrs here. If you’re a new or returning player I’d suggest: 1. Take it slow you don’t need to dive head first into the endgame! 2. Try and get your friends to play with you. You’ll have more fun learning together. 3. Do the campaign, strikes, seasonal activities. Get some loot together so you can start making a build. Having a good build/weapons isn’t necessary BUT, will definitely make it easier and more fun when doing harder content. You’re not going to be able to get all the loot you want in a single day so it’s okay if it takes you a couple of weeks/month to acquire it all. 4. Once you’ve got a solid build together give the Exotic missions a try! All of them are pretty fun to do and some of them are on a timer so be quick. I’d recommend going in blind with your friends and try to figure out the mechanics yourselves first. It’s okay if you don’t complete it first try! If you’re struggling obviously feel free to look up a guide. Once completed you’ll earn an exotic weapon! 5. Now on to dungeons. Dungeons are some of the most fun/rewarding activities the game has to offer. IMO these are the dungeons I’d suggest trying first from easiest to hardest: -Shattered Throne -Pit of Heresy -Prophecy -Grasp of Avarice -Spire of the Watcher -Duality -Ghosts of the Deep -Warlords Ruin The last two being my personal favorites. Anyway, pick one of the dungeons above and go in blind with some friends and try and learn the mechanics/encounters and jumping puzzles together. If you’re struggling feel free to look up a guide to help you finish it. 6. Do the same dungeon again but, this time try and complete each encounter and boss dps phase faster and more efficiently. Repeat those steps with the other dungeons! 7. Next, give raiding a try. Raids along with dungeons have some of the coolest/best loot the game has to offer. IMO these are the raids I’d suggest trying first from easiest to hardest: -Vault of Glass -Root of Nightmares -Deep Stone Crypt -King’s Fall -Garden of Salvation -Salvations Edge -Vow of the Disciple -Last Wish Raiding can be super fun especially when everyone is learning the mechanics for the first time. If your group is willing to go in blind and has the time I’d recommend doing that. If not, completely understandable but, like dungeons you can find guides for raids online. Hope this helps and if anyone wants to add tips to this list or if you have any questions feel free to ask ♥️
@@Kiduk90 In-game LFG was added to help with that. I use it all the time for nightfalls, dungeons, exotic missions, etc. Can’t really speak for the raid portion of it since I now have a static group that I run with but, it’s been great for me ever since introduced.
Im literally downloading it today but im a single player, I dont have friends online gaming and I really dont work well as a team. Im the dude that gets everyone killed 😂😂 But thanks for this, ive been dropping comments all over for where do i start? Ive been a huge fan of the lore since 2012.
I've started playing the game in 2019, back then what sucked me in was the gameplay. What kept me coming back over and over was the Story / Lore. It's just such a fascinating story, if you can understand and follow it,. which, for a new player is absolutely insane and understandably way too much (one of the biggest Lore content creators made a 10 hour long video about just the main story, and only 3 and a half hours in does the player guardian come in)
I just got it a few weeks ago, and I’m having a ton of fun. I tried the first descendant as well, and it did not feel good. It felt like a cash grab, even a mobile game from the beginning. I haven’t felt like I need to spend any money so far in destiny. After playing destiny for a few weeks, I enjoyed the customization, the dynamic missions, all the cool stuff I can explore at the beginning. I just did a little research before playing so I wasn’t confused. In my opinion, even 5-10 minutes of research for me was enough to grasp all the menus and general gameplay. People talked bad about it, told me not to get it, but I genuinely don’t understand the hate. I think it’s just a dislike for the microtransactions, and people confuse that for the entire game being bad. I think everyone just needs to actually attempt to have fun with games, not going tryhard 24/7. When you rush through games, you’re gonna get bored, and inevitably run out of content sooner, meaning you’ll get to that “money spending” gate faster. Just slow down and enjoy the game! TLDR: there’s still tons of shit to do without spending money. Long time players need to stop scaring new players into getting into it because of their personal gripes with the game. It’s a fun game to pick up for the first time, in my opinion
I had the exact same experience - tried The First Descendant and it just didn't seem that great. Decided to try Destiny 2 and it is far superior. The gunplay feels way better in Destiny 2 and the presentation/visuals are way better. Always been a fan of Bungie and the Halo franchise so happy that I finally dove into the Destiny franchise.
Great video, I started to play D2 after a very long time of not playing Destiny 1 and I did have some trouble trying to understand what I needed to focus on. I do like the FPS/RPG aspect of it so I just kept on checking what was available. I’m still having trouble understanding the full story since D1, but I’m slowly getting the hang of the game again and I really like how much you can work on. I wish I could still play the first 2 expansions. I just got the legacy collection, so hope to see more cool stuff 😊
I'm so hesitant to start back. Especially switching from xbox to pc, it feels like such a task to go back to games that I already established or spent time playing on xbox...
I have 10,000 hours in D1/D2, and I would not suggest someone getting into D2 right now as D3 is going to (have to) come out in less than two years and even with a veteran play like me, Destiny 2 is often very confusing and annoying. That said, it is the best looter shooter ever and the gunplay is the best in any game I have ever played. My best friend is a D1 vet who hasn't played since vanilla D2 (which is no longer in the game) and even he found D2 daunting.
What DLC do we need to get now? I got a bit concerned since all the DLC is like £350, but some of them don't seem like expansions and other's are like bundles, so I have no idea what to get!
I would say the most recent, the final shape. Just because it’s going to be the games main focus right now. As I mentioned, it’s great when you keep up with the newest part of the story with everyone else. Not only that but it’s one of, if not the best dlc there is in terms of content. It also wraps up the giant story nicely which is good for someone who hasn’t followed though each dlc expansion. Forsaken is the second best option.
Thing is this game is super confusing for new players. I started about a year ago and it give you little to no advice on what you should be doing. So if you're new be ready for that and watching alot of youtube just to be able to play.
in terms of DLC, if you're somewhat fomo, buy the latest DLC first, if not, play what's free then wait for whatever DLC is on huge discount. That only if you are enjoying the game and okay with being overwhelmed with new and confusing stuff in the beginning.
Very good review. Yes Destiny 2 is not kind for new players. Especially understanding weapons rolls and what is good. However there are tones of tools out there that can help you learn these things and in my opinion is what makes the weapon economy great.
Is d2 worth getting back into?? I played back when Vow of the disciple raid came out but I’m wondering if I should get back since I was a big fan of the game
I would definitely recommend as I have in the video but it’s just a case of how much time you want to put into it as there’s so much to do and learn. Then with D3 on the horizon, it’s a tough choice.
i'm not 100% sure, as the game was new to me as well. but in the destinations tab, where it shows the whole timeline as i mentioned. it should state which ones you've played, if not then you should still get a good understanding of which ones you've done
@@Calzee ok thank you I tried playing it the other night it told me to go to the timeline but I couldn't find it is it called something else or maybe I'm just stupid and blind lol.
Nah, The First Descendant comes out in less than 4 days and is completely free to play. D2 is done with it's main 10 year story and it costs too much money to get up to parity with the current content. Pass until D3 comes out. I say this as someone that has played D2 over 4,000 hours.
Well as this game was from a free to play perspective, I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to start playing now. Still a fair amount of time until D3. You don’t have to put thousands of hours in. Also, the story being finished is kinda a good thing, meaning it’s not always growing for the new player to catch up to.
It’s fun if you like a challenge, it’s not an easy game especially getting into higher difficulty tiers. But once you understand the complex parts of the game, stats, builds, and correlation between weapons. It gets really fun really fast. Think of a shooter with rpg mechanics between characters. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like gaming. This is one for you.
I used to play eight years ago, redownloaded yesterday to some legacy exotics. Was gonna get back into it but i saw what the ceo and the company has been doing to its players....yall are still playing this shit after that?
this is a great "new player" summary. but a terrible "actual player" review. There's so much stuff that youve stated wrong / missing. but as a new player, you wont know that, which kinda of makes this come back around to be being a good review
@Rolkey Firstly, online games require people to play a lot to stay a float. Yes if gaming addiction will somehow ruin your life, take action and step back. But we also have to consider the fact that online games require high player engagement. While there is also people who have sunk cost fallacy, saying that this is basically a or the reason is a strawman fallacy.
It's very grindy game if you don't pay for few hours a day you'll get nowhere far, power level grind, god rolls grind and such, buffs and nerf every here and there they your perfect build you grinded for months is now broken so you need to grind for new build and god rolls. And such...but action in the game is great when you set right build you feel very powerfull.

Same here man!
I have beaten the first and second games before they went free to play. If it has more content and free story expansion, I might come back to it.
