Gonna guess it was just for the film. It’s a lip-sync to the album track. A good representation of a recording session, just more people usually. The outside was shot at The Huntington a museum/mansion in San Marino, California which is just outside Los Angeles. It’s still in operation and people can tour. I’ve driven past it but never went in, yet I guess. Another example of Karen’s lower vocal,range in the song Solitaire. Written by Neil Sedaka. It’s just beautiful. It’s a non-Carpenters song made famous by Perry Como in 1970. The song is It’s Impossible. BUT there is a Carpenters connection. They were guests on Perry’s TV Special in 1974. They sang together in a medley of each other’s hits. Karen wound up singing one verse from the song. Fast forward to 2024 and in The UK, producer/musician Dan Wesley wondered what it would have sounded like if Karen had sung the entire song. Being the wise man he is, he reached out to Tori Holub in the US. To his surprise she responded saying since it was a hit by a man, she couldn’t find music to one of her favorite songs. Dan sent her a piano track in Karen’s key and below we have the collaboration that grew from a man’s curiosity. Intrigued? It's sad actually. You mentioned that their parents were probably super proud of them. From what I've heard, Karen never got much praise from her mother or father. The mother favored Richard more due to his musical talents but really didn't see Karen for hers. Their mother wanted Richard to shine, not Karen. Karen did shine over Richard though due to her vocal talent. She was the vocal mastermind and he was the musical mastermind with all their arrangements.
