The lines "I love you in a place where there's no space or time, I love you for in my life, you are a friend of mine. And when my life is over, remember when we were together, cos we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you" Gets me every time. I saw them live many times in the 70's but they didn't do this in concert. One of Karen's best vocals.
Me too! " I love you in a place where there's no space or time ". Such a beautiful line, and nobody sings it better than Karen! " I love you for my life, you are a friend of mine." I'm fighting back the tears at this point, but immediately lose it when she sings "And when my life is over," BOOM! I lose it! Both choruses! 50 years later and it gets me every time! Rest In Peace Karen and Leon!
Karen's voice is, as always incredible, but it's the lyrics! The LYRICS and the arrangement that makes this song so special! Kudos to Richard for this arrangement...
I grew up loving The Carpenters. I was a teenager when she died of Anorexia. I was devastated like so many at such a terrible loss of grace and talent. She will absolutely remain an ICON OF MUSIC as long as music lives with us.
i was a a yong music teacher, heard the news on the car radio, had to pull over and cry. when I was 14 in 1970, she was 20, and frustrated I was too young for her ...she loved music as much as I did...Karen and Richard did all the ackikng vocals on the records, layered. the band had to sing a replica of that live when they were on the road.
@@thomastimlin1724 It was a very sad day when we lost her. I can only imagine what her brother went thru. Without her...there was no Singer. Her brother, Richard is still busy though. He still makes albums and writes songs. I just found out while googling them...that Karen actually had a husband. I never knew that. Their marriage was brief...less than a year...ending in 1981. She died 2 yrs later at 32 yrs old. Richard and their family created an eating disorder organization as well in honor of Karen. The Carpenters will never be replaced. What they had together was timeless. They truly made the most beautiful music I have EVER heard.
Leon Russell's heartfelt lyrics, and Karen's ANGELIC, heartwarming voice were meant for each other. Richard knew this and used his musical genius in arranging and composing to blend them to create some wonderful and timeless masterpieces. Thank you, and Rest In Peace Karen and Leon. Love all your reactions guys, and your genuine appreciation of Carpenters Classics!
Karen's beautiful heart was borne out to her listeners on that magnificent velvet voice! THAT... was the MAGIC OF Karen Carpenter! She truly had a heart of LOVE that the world was very blessed to receive! RIP with God dear Karen!!
I had not heard this version that I can recall, familiar with Leon Russell's version. Had no idea of the tastefully done sax to match Karen's clean and clear voice in the break. Karen is easily in the top 10 of female vocalist in the last 50 years. You can't beat perfect pitch with that kind of clarity.
This song & another song popular by The Carpenters. Superstar. Were both written by Leon Russell. I suggest anyone sing these songs back to back together because the compliment each other. If u listen to the lyrics you'll notice Superstar is from the fans or groupies point if view while a Song for You us from the singer's point of view.
NICE!! Karen is of my top 5 favorite female singers!! Tried to scan your channel a bit and didn't see; THIS MASQUERADE, probably my favorite song they did!! #2,, be nice if you had Play Lists by Artist!! You Two are a FREAKING ADORABLE couple 💗 Great Job! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
We should also appreciate Richard for his masterful arranging of songs like this one. "This Masquerade" is a masterpiece as well. Another hidden gem that doesn't get reviewed often is "Leave Yesterday Behind" which also shows off Karen's lower register.
There is just no other voice that moves me like Karen's voice. this was their 4th album, from 1972, & by that time, Karen's voice was just as good as a voice can ever get. ----------Richard's masterful arrangement / production ! --------------MJL, 77 y/o
This is real artistry and music. Not the noisy crap the media shoves down your ears everyday for decades, and barinwashes you.. Karen Carpenter's voice is so warm and inviting, one which puts it's arms around you when you're depressed and down, and lifts you up off of the basement floor. Too bad we could not do the same for her, maybe she would have lived a long life.
This song has been covered a million times and her version is absolutely amazing , but you have to check out Ray Charles version of this song it'll bring it to your knees in tears !
It was long thought that Leon Russell's muse for the song was the singer Rita Coolidge, who claimed to be the inspiration and called it "the most beautiful song ever written." They met in the late '60s when Russell was one of the top session piano players and Coolidge was getting started as a singer. Russell wrote a song called "Delta Lady" about her that Joe Cocker recorded in 1969, but at a 2015 concert in New York City, he said "A Song For You" was not about her. Peace out.
There is a better version-- a video performance, rather than just looking at an album cover. Especially since Karen's visual presentation in it is lovely.😊❤❤
It might just be me that I’ve overlooked this channel, but I’ve missed you guys. You are great and I love both of you. If it’s my fault, I’m sorry. But glad to see you back. 😀 Oh, I just see what happened, I know I was subscribed to your channel, but I just looked and it’s not. I don’t know how that happened. Well I just subscribed again. It will never happen again sorry.
you know this was 45 years ago she died in 1983 from comlication o anorexia.... she was bullied by the MEDIA telling her she was fat lose the weight...
This is another Leon Russell song, you need to hear another of Leon's songs sung by Karen called 'This Masquerade.' It was also performed by George Benson.
Dear Lord, she was so blessed with the most beautiful voice...RIP Karen
When she sings “and when my life is over” this always makes me tear up 😢
No matter how many times I hear this lady sing, it still amazes me! Unmatched as far as a vocalist goes.
Same here, even after decades, her voice still gives me the chills and wonder why her life had to be cut off so short. She had a lot to deliver!!!
Written by the late great singer/songwriter Leon Russell (1970). Sung Hauntingly Beautiful by the late great Karen Carpenter. Priceless.
The richest, purest, smoothest most angelic voice of all time and she was a fabulous drummer too.
Good drummer.
"Love you in a place where there is no space and time"....gorgeous song written by Leon Russel.
Karen is no longer with us, but she still lives in our hearts. 🌹🌹
The sax solo is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thank you for not interrupting this beautiful performance!
Great reaction! I love your Last Supper tshirt❤

One of the best interpretation of this song by Leon Russell. Masterclass!
It gets me, too. I can have an ugly cry with this one!
I sang that phrase to my brother at his funeral. God how I miss my big brother ❣️✌️🎶🌏

It's like she is speaking to us from heaven?
Richard’s terrific arrangements combined with Karen’s natural, effortless, and always pitch perfect voice were one of a kind and magical. Timeless! ❤
One of the most feminine clear crisp sounding voices ever

Shawn is right the sound of her voice the style of the song and the sax! It has a strong effect~!

👍YESSSSSSS! 😊HERE WE GO, JUST INCREDIBLE THIS WAS, LISTEN TO THAT VOICE REFLEX!
Such a nice reaction to a beautiful song by a dynamic duo that blessed us with some wonderful and timeless MUSIC!
Her voice was so warm, rich and glorious…hauntingly beautiful! ❤❤
I love Karen... from Brazil
R.I.P Karen ❤
I heard that Karen use to say "the money is in the basement " meaning she knew ppl wanted to hear her lower register 🎶🎵💚
Beautiful indeed..❤
This my favorite Karen Carpenter song! Thank you for your reaction! She was perfect!
Karen has warmth in her voice
Karen's beautiful heart was borne out to her listeners on that magnificent velvet voice! THAT... was the MAGIC OF Karen Carpenter! She truly had a heart of LOVE that the world was very blessed to receive! RIP with God dear Karen!!
One of her best never released as a single was I'm Caught between goodbye and I love you

Though not as well known as the two you mentioned is their cover of "This Masquerade"..

Amazing!
Thank you for using the studio version, as the live version lacks the wonderful sax solo.
Thanks for using the audio version. The TV-video used by other reactors totally cuts out the amazing Bob Messenger sax solo.
You have to listen to "Merry Christmas Darling" during the holidays and her voice will blow your mind.
Such a gorgeous, beautiful voice❤She left us way too soon😢
We should also appreciate Richard for his masterful arranging of songs like this one. "This Masquerade" is a masterpiece as well. Another hidden gem that doesn't get reviewed often is "Leave Yesterday Behind" which also shows off Karen's lower register.
This Masquerade, yet another great Leon Russell written song.
i could see u guys slow dancing to this song 😍

Shawn and Mel, love your reactions, especially to my favorite singer Karen Carpenter! Thanks for giving her so much love ❤️. You two are awesome!
1972, KAREN'S VOICE WAS JUST IMMACULATE. -------------FLAWLESS ARRANGEMENT & PRODUCTION BY RICHARD, AS ALWAYS. ------------MJL, 77 Y/O
Karen had such a beautiful voice.

Great song!!
Shawn and Mel, This is fantastic! I subscribed right away!
Top notch ....Candy and Karen! Nice one sister. ☘️
The "drummer who could sing" Karen's "pop" vocal talents are on a whole other level.
Peace and Tranquility here!
This song has been covered a million times and her version is absolutely amazing , but you have to check out Ray Charles version of this song it'll bring it to your knees in tears !
Hello from Texas! Love love spending time with you both.
LOVELY Karen's life was over way to soon!

Kids reaction you guys
Very Nice but I like Donnie Hathway's version so,such Better
Opinions vary
The Donny Hathaway cover is beautiful as well, but I find this version absolutely haunting.
