She was married to the guy playing the guitar who also wrote the song and they got divorced but continued to play in the group. It must have been weird but they got on with it and turned it into another hit.
one of the best bands ever. their harmonies are beyond epic. songwriting, etc. and as far as staying power. i can imagine 500 years from now people will still be listening to ABBA.
The Way Old Friends Do is the last song on the B side of their album Super Trouper and on some albums the cheers and ovation goes on and on if the record player doesn't stop automatical. Great feature.
ABBA were the real thing - a supergroup. This song was written by her ex husband shortly after they broke up. He wrote the lyrics in a drunken hour or so - showed her the lyrics and she burst out crying. They were two married couples when they formed the group. They sang without the technologies we have today - they were for real. The other girl, Anni-Frid also had a beautiful voice - try Fernando! They harmonised perfectly together and made a very unique and recognisable ABBA sound. The boys wrote the music and lyrics - sounds simple, but actually pretty complex and always with a "hook" to get stuck in your brain. Watch more!
I love to see young people appreciate ABBA, ive been a massive fan since 1974, They are the best and most successful group of all time. Great to know you want to do more ABBA, there's so many to choose from and you won't be disappointed, they never made a bad song
"Dancing Queen" is indeed a perfect pop song, but somehow tinged with a sadness that the singer is no longer a 17 year old dancing queen herself (at the "advanced" age of 26 when she sang it!) Others have described the feelings of melancholy, yearning and of the sadness that ABBA always portrays so beautifully. "One of Us", "Chiquitita", "Fernando", "Happy New Year", "Thank you for the music", "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and many more invoke similar emotions.
ABBA are a huge rabbit hole if you enjoy pop and older music, well worth a deep dive. Two females share leads, Agnetha and Frida, and all four, but especially the females do the gorgeous harmonies. The males. Benny and Bjorn, write and perform the music and lyrics. Could you react to their TV performance of "SOS" in 1975 please?
My heart breaks every time I hear this song. Agneta - the woman singing lead - was married to Bjorn, the guitarist standing next to her. He wrote the lyrics about their divorce. The fact that they are standing together performing is a testement to their professionalism as musicians. The line that alwaus gets me is when she apologises to him when the lyrics tell how much she is hurting. Fantastic group; I was so happy when they got back in the studio together all those years later.
He wrote a song about their break up, got his wife to sing it, and included her apology in the lyrics. Stirs the emotions especially with her beautiful clear voice.
A masterpiece of ABBA 👌! A song about getting divorced... Sung by Agnetha, and written by her ex-husband, Björn (on guitar, to her right). The other couple, formed by Frida and Benny, the boy at the piano, divorced the following year (1981). ABBA would go on a hiatus (which became almost permanent) in 1982. BEST ⭐ POP ⭐ BAND ⭐ EVER! PLEASE MORE 🙏! I Suggest 'Money money money' Take care, Rere See you soon ✌️ Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗😘👍
You have chosen wisely, this group is arguably the best pop group of all time. Enjoy your exploration of two of the best female singers and two of the best song writers. Their music will continue to be played long after other groups fade away.
This was Agnetha's voice, just beautiful, yet very sad & true. The song was about her husband (on the left) who wanted a divorce. The song was written by Benny, the pianist. Ani-Frid was the other singer. I honestly don't know how they wrote such a sad song that Agnetha could sing. Very very sad. 😥😥
The funny thing about that song is that it involves the people in the group, the 2 couples in the group were married to each other and decided to call it quits, and the song is about their divorce. It’s crazy that they wrote that a song and performed it.
Simply one of the greatest artist/artists of popular music and a huge influence on popular music thereafter The movie Mamma Mia 2008 and sequel you must have seen? Highlighted their many many unforgettable songs.
ABBA has released well over 100 great songs. Plenty to choose from for future reactions. Dancing Queen is probably their most famous and successful release.
@@petterhansson7312 That's not true. At the time they tried to present it that way but that's because that's what famous people often do. But it's far from the truth. Agnetha was devastated by the divorce and their daughter had a very hard time with it as well.
The first Song I heard when I was a 3yo kid in 1980. Since then this Song is in my deepest memories. It started my love for music in general. Later I became a Queen Fan but ABBA always was close to my Heart.
In this song Agnetha actually sing about her life and divorce with Bjorn (man, who wrote songs and played the guitar in the group), that's why it feels so real from her.
Almost every ABBA sing will amaze you.... Upbeat: Super Trouper, Voulez-Vous, Take a Chance On Me, Dancing Queen, Lay All Your Love On Me and many more Songs like Winner Takes It All: One Of Us, The Day Before You Came, Chiquitita, Fernando, Happy New Year (good to comment on around newyears day) and many more
The greatest pop/rock group of all time and so ahead of their time as far as the technical side of composition lyrically and musically. Benny Anderson on keyboards was instrumental in the arrangements of every song he and Bjorn wrote. I saw them live in Sydney Australia in 1977 when I was 15 yrs old and to this day I still play all my ABBA songs! They reunited only recently and are now the most successful band over 50 yrs.!
What a killer song. They are way before my time, but the ABBA sound is known around the world. I could hear this in White Lotus or a club in Santorini or in Miami. It's dated but so beautiful and moving and the beat is propulsive, building so much emotion. And of course her voice is so delicate and piercing at once. Just lovely.
For someone who doesn;t know, it's not that easy to clear out what era was this song recorded.Still sounds so relevant for a track that was released .... 44 years ago!!No autotune btw.Just pure talent and technically superior vocal potentials.
Bjorn & Agnetha split in 1979 and divorced in 1980. Benny and Anni-Frid split in 1980 and divorced in 1981. This song came out in 1980 with Agnetha singing lead. Got to be the most convoluted music and personal lives output since Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album. And perhaps since.
But, digital audio workstations were already around since the early 90:s (91 and on) and they could manipulate the pitch manually (ie no Auto in the tuning) by cutting the audio parts up to slices and pitch them manually. Auto Tune made this much easier. And samplers were around already in the 80:s and in them you could also make recordings of voice parts and control the different takes from a sequencer in a computer triggering the samples from the outboard sampler. Probably good enough for quality and length of the clips in the absolute best samplers already in the mid 80:s! Synclavier and Fairlight at that time were already kind of digital audio workstations with CD-sound quality (or even above it). But, as said, not as easy and not automatic. But still voice pitch correction nevertheless much earlier than many would have thought! Earlier than that, even around Abbas time, An eventide Harmonizer could be used to make minor subtle pitch corrections. But it wasn't that good to begin with but apparently it got better over time...
I just found your channel thanks to the algorithm. I love watching young people discovering and loving the music that I grew up with. I enjoy hearing your analysis and thoughts. The 70s and 80s music tells stories that everyone can relate to in some way, and they sing it with the passion and pain of having gone through those situations and emotions. I'm so excited to see your reaction to what's next. In my opinion, Dancing Queen is their biggest hit. Have you ever heard of the movie Mama Mia? That show is based around ABBA's most loved songs. I consider myself a manly man, and even i shamelessly enjoyed that movie, it being a musical chick flick and all. I'm looking forward to bringing your past reactions and for what's next. I'm sure you hear it all the time, I love your accent! Much love from the 🇺🇸.

This was a song about divorce... Agnetha (singer) and the guitar player, Björn. I recommend Dancing Queen, Fernando, Mamma Mia, and many more. They are a Swedish group form the 70s.
ABBA produced some of the best music ever at one point people made fun of being an abba fan but people realise now just how good they are and it is cool to be an abba fan in todays world yet another legendary group i was fourtunate to grow up with ! Gimmie Gimme Gimme is another fantastic abba song.
Just for your own satisfaction you should check the official video for this, the emotion Agnetha (my first crush) brings to it is Oscar worthy. As people have said there are so many brilliant ABBA songs, but a couple I’ve not seen mentioned are Arrival and Eagle. One of the great stadium songs is Thank You For The Music which sums up their careers. Thank you for carrying the flame for the greatest music into the next generation, you make an old man feel very pleased that the music of my youth will live on through people such as yourself.
ABBA are the undisputed masters of bittersweet songs, with sad lyrics and happy music. This song is about the divorce from her husband who plays guitar in the same band, Bjorn. She said it was hard to sing, because of that, but was able to put everything into it, a song he wrote for her. This is such an intimate true to life song that's absolutely incredible!!!!!!
I read in the comments somewhere that this song was written at the time of the breakup of 2 of the members of this group. Imagine doing this song this good in the middle of all that. I would personally recommed Chiquitita or Fernando, soo good 🎵🎵
Both songs u reacted "Chiquitita/The Winner" are part of the 2nd best selling album ever in the UK "ABBA GOLD" (still in the charts since 1992-over 6 mill.copies sold there )and the album with the longest chart residency ever there too.
PS There was no autotune as it needs processing power and PCs weren't a thing in the 70's. let alone mobile phones! There was some basic pitch correction and of course mixing desks in the late 70's but auto-tune as it is now didn't start until the 90's This is pure talent though, and you can watch live performances to realise just how good they were.
ABBA's music is often based on their experiences and outlooks on life, more so than people believe. Benny and Björn wrote all the songs and music together, usually sitting in a small cottage on an island in the Stockholm Archipelago. Agneta and Annefrid were the singers. They were originally two couples, Björn + Agneta and Benny + Annefrid. They both split after a while. Who instigated the separation between Björn and Agneta is unknown - and unimportant. After the split, they continued to cooperate as a band.
Beautifull voice and song. Though a Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal Head their song FERNANDO seems to call my attention!! DANCING QUEEN another Bangah!! Great Reaction! You nailed! No such thing as Auto Tune then and competition was tough to be noticed from the streets basically. No UA-cam! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Björn at the Guitar wrote the Lyrics about ending a relationship.. which he ended, with Agnetha, on the leading vocals.. She is said to have been crying when she for the first time was reading the lyrics... Björn denied it was all about them breaking up.. now everyone knows it probably was?!? .. ABBA- A small band from Sweden with only 450million+ records sold !!! :D :D
Official video is also a must seen even privately. It's wrapped up with a lot of emotion and Agnetha who handles the lead here is very convincing in her acting. She possibly put some of her real experience in there.
The best pop band ever to grace this world. Sold more records than any other group besides the Beatles. Please can you react to I’ve Been Waiting for You by ABBA. It’s my absolute favourite by them. It was never released as a single (except in Australia) but it’s a brilliant song.
3 groups dominated the 70's music: ABBA (Sweden), The Bee Gees (Australia/UK) and Boney M. (Germany), especially the 2nd half of the decade. There's 2 movies where most ABBA songs are featured: Mamma Mia 1 & 2 with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. ABBA's album "Voulez-Vous" is a great hit with some 12 songs or so, a real treat to the ear.
How nice to see you again with what I believe is your second reaction to ABBA songs Your previous song was "Chiquitita" from January 1979, and now it's "The winner takes it all" from August 1980 Both were the first singles from their albums. But there is one more important fact that unites these two songs By the time of the release of "Chiquitita" the blonde couple Agnetha and Björn had separated And by the time of the release of "The winner takes it all" their legal divorce had already been finalized And the lyrics of this song (written by the blonde guitarist, on a melody by the bearded pianist) are an inspiration from her own divorce (not exactly their real life) I agree with you that the interpretation of the blonde singer Agnetha is extraordinary, in the exact sense of the word Only she can use her prodigious soprano voice with such power, emotion and vulnerability "The winner takes it all" was the eighth #1 in the UK and ABBA's fourth and final Top 10 in the US and it's blonde Agnetha's favourite song ABBA has over 20 worldwide hits Waterloo (winner of Eurovision 1974) Mamma Mia Dancing Queen but I suggest you do some with brunette Frida on lead vocals: Fernando Knowing me knowing you Super Trouper (all three were #1 in UK) I hope you continue your deep immersion in ABBA's deep catalogue Best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina South America
We, the ABBA fans, expect you to come back with many more of their hits. And, as happens with many reactors, we expect you to say every time "This is my favourite ABBA song so far">
If you liked Agnetha's singing, maybe you could react to a song she released last year called Where Do We Go From Here. At 73 years old, she still has a great voice.
As far as I know Bjorn - the blonde guitarist - wrote it about his divorce with Agnetha - the singer - which is exemplified by the line "the judges will decide, the likes of me abide." ABBA afr infamous for being inter married like Fleetwood Mac. Only, all 4 members of ABBA were married whereas Mick Fleetwood wasn't married to any band members. I'm so glad you loved it bc it is, always has been & always will be my favorite ABBA song. Many of their songs are fabulous of course but the way they write beark-up songs stand out with their honesty & how the music is still happy. Only Go your own Way by Fleetwood Mac is a happier break-up song. IMO. [oh & my other fave by ABBA is knowing me knowing you which again is an example of their break-up songs] I like your channel BTW as it's a bit of a rarity to see fellow compatriots doing reactions.
Björn- (the guitarist), who is standing beside her, was her husband. The band was two married couples. Björn wrote the lyrics and Benny-(piano player) wrote the music 2 weeks after their divorce came through. Yes, they all have turns in taking lead vocals. Try: Fernando / Does your mother know / Knowing me, Knowing you. There's over 100 songs to explore
I love this song. If you look at her face, you will know this was personal to her. Another great break-up song is 'If you could read my mind' by Gordon Lightfoot. About his divorce. Cher sang 'Believe' in '99, that was the first auto-tune song in pop music. According to Billboard 'Believe' was the #1 song of that year.
ABBA is a group and the letters of the name are the first letters of their names Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid. I am of the opinion that Dancing Queen by ABBA is one of the best pop songs of all time. Great reaction. x
She was married to the guy playing the guitar who also wrote the song and they got divorced but continued to play in the group. It must have been weird but they got on with it and turned it into another hit.
a good example for how important lyrics are!
They didn't mix love and busines
Piano guy wrote most melodies but songs were collaboration
Не представляю , как можно было уйти от Агнеты !?
Sverige..❤❤
I am from Liverpool, England and a Beatles fan but ABBA were their equal for the top spot of all time in my opinion. I won't be told otherwise.
The lyrics are even more amazing when you realise English is their second language.
one of the best bands ever. their harmonies are beyond epic. songwriting, etc. and as far as staying power. i can imagine 500 years from now people will still be listening to ABBA.
ABBA is not just a group... ABBA is a lifestyle. Welcome to the rest of your life, young lady.
abba is the world's best pop music from the 70s and early 80s
They are one of the greatest greatest groups still in the world!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
ABBA are one of the greatest groups EVER.
I recommend ABBA live at Wembley, singing The Way Old Friends Do. Thanks 👍
The Way Old Friends Do is the last song on the B side of their album Super Trouper and on some albums the cheers and ovation goes on and on if the record player doesn't stop automatical. Great feature.
No, no auto tune there. Just hard work. Not just, but it's true. They practiced like athletes. Ridiculous amount of time to be that accurate.

Please do ABBA's Dancing Queen next. It's one of the greatest pop songs ever written. Pure joy.

@@gperch Yes, bitter/sweetness and melancholia are features of a lot of ABBA's music. It helps to create a sense of nostalgia and longing
Dancing queen has been played to death. There are much better tracks that people dont know about! Check out the visitors album instead!
ABBA are a huge rabbit hole if you enjoy pop and older music, well worth a deep dive.

The males. Benny and Bjorn, write and perform the music and lyrics.
Could you react to their TV performance of "SOS" in 1975 please?
You'll never go wrong with ABBA. Every song is a little pop masterpiece. And your right there was no auto-tune. Good luck with the channel.
Probably the best soprano to lend her voice to popular music.😊
She has a beautiful velvet voice.
My heart breaks every time I hear this song. Agneta - the woman singing lead - was married to Bjorn, the guitarist standing next to her. He wrote the lyrics about their divorce. More like inspired by the divorce. He's denied several times it's directly about the divorce.

They are two of the best singers ever..
After Karen carpenter yes lol
No Autotune just pure talent.
There are SO MANY 1970's songs that explore crushing heartbreak. Great reaction.
You have chosen wisely, this group is arguably the best pop group of all time. Enjoy your exploration of two of the best female singers and two of the best song writers. Their music will continue to be played long after other groups fade away.

I don't think you know how big ABBA was and still are, they started the Swedish music wonder.
There was no such thing as auto-tune in 1980. Agnetha really was that good, just as you heard.
ABBA has released well over 100 great songs. Plenty to choose from for future reactions. Dancing Queen is probably their most famous and successful release.
Live folks. This was a LIVE performance! In 1980. Unreal! ❤
A beautiful voice Agnetha
Their first great success was in 1974. They won the "European Song Contest" with "Waterloo"
Now imagine the person she wrote this song about is standing next to her having to sing this song with her. Her Ex.
Didn’t Björn write this
@@michaelbailey6365 yes HE wrote it which makes the situation more twisted since he left her.

Official video is even better imo.Matches the song's strong impact.
That voice...... Sublime
If you watch the official video you can actually see the hurt and pain in her face which makes this the greatest song by ABBA.........
My 2 ABBA favourites, are 'Super Trouper' and 'Voulez Vous.'
Both diverse both diamonds!

Yes, they all four sing. ABBA is known for their great harmonies.
'Take a chance on me' is worth checking out.
In this song Agnetha actually sing about her life and divorce with Bjorn (man, who wrote songs and played the guitar in the group), that's why it feels so real from her.
Soy Español y esta gran Canción de ABBA Es mi favorito de uno de las mejores bandas del Mundo , Saludos Desde Valladolid España 🎵🎶🎵🎶

ABBA a timeless band, on October 7, 1976 ABBA played their first and only concert in Poland.
The object of this song, or maybe I should say target, for her was standing next to her, playing the acoustic guitar.

There was some basic pitch correction and of course mixing desks in the late 70's but auto-tune as it is now didn't start until the 90's
This is pure talent though, and you can watch live performances to realise just how good they were.
There was no auto tune before the late '90s.
Great reaction!
Pure Swedish soul music .
Abba was the first group to be offered one billion dollars to get back together and tour for one year..they turned it down. 1 billion
Agnetha is terrified of flying.
Sure she is. She's also already a billionaire.
🐴🐴🐴🐴 .. bravo ReRe. You have a bunch more ABBA songs in your future. 🎼🔥❣️🔥🎼
This is after the breakups go back in time to when the world was beautiful
I still have faith in you brought out a couple of years ago 40 years after recording all now being in there 70 s
Check out cassandra and Al andar! And also go to the abba voyage show in London - Its mindblowing!
ABBA! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice reaction to a sad song. One of my 2 favorites from ABBA. The other is Dancing Queen, a completely different vibe.
Abba forever ❤❤❤. Dancing queen also beautiful song😊😊😊
I love ABBA. At Vance covered this song in a metal version. Very good. 🔥☝️😎!!
ABBA -Waterloo
3 groups dominated the 70's music: ABBA (Sweden), The Bee Gees (Australia/UK) and Boney M. (Germany), especially the 2nd half of the decade. There's 2 movies where most ABBA songs are featured: Mamma Mia 1 & 2 with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. ABBA's album "Voulez-Vous" is a great hit with some 12 songs or so, a real treat to the ear.
How nice to see you again with what I believe is your second reaction to ABBA songs
Your previous song was "Chiquitita" from January 1979, and now it's "The winner takes it all" from August 1980
Both were the first singles from their albums. But there is one more important fact that unites these two songs
By the time of the release of "Chiquitita" the blonde couple Agnetha and Björn had separated
And by the time of the release of "The winner takes it all" their legal divorce had already been finalized
And the lyrics of this song (written by the blonde guitarist, on a melody by the bearded pianist) are an inspiration from her own divorce (not exactly their real life)
I agree with you that the interpretation of the blonde singer Agnetha is extraordinary, in the exact sense of the word
Only she can use her prodigious soprano voice with such power, emotion and vulnerability
"The winner takes it all" was the eighth #1 in the UK and ABBA's fourth and final Top 10 in the US
and it's blonde Agnetha's favourite song
ABBA has over 20 worldwide hits
Waterloo (winner of Eurovision 1974)
Mamma Mia
Dancing Queen
but I suggest you do some with brunette Frida on lead vocals:
Fernando
Knowing me knowing you
Super Trouper
(all three were #1 in UK)
I hope you continue your deep immersion in ABBA's deep catalogue
Best regards from
Buenos Aires Argentina South America
We, the ABBA fans, expect you to come back with many more of their hits. And, as happens with many reactors, we expect you to say every time "This is my favourite ABBA song so far">
Agree!
Sugestion : ABBA "Thank you for the music" its SO beutiful text too (as a musichian im sure you`d love it)
Still dont know even so many years after this song was released how she ever sang it without breaking up.
IMO. [oh & my other fave by ABBA is knowing me knowing you which again is an example of their break-up songs]
I like your channel BTW as it's a bit of a rarity to see fellow compatriots doing reactions.
Thanks to not break this masterpiece... 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🙋
Part II 😁 YES Like, Subscribe, Notification Bell 🔔 and SHARE!!! ☮️
Amazing that it was written by a man.
I love this song. If you look at her face, you will know this was personal to her.
Another great break-up song is 'If you could read my mind' by Gordon Lightfoot.
About his divorce. Cher sang 'Believe' in '99, that was the first auto-tune song
in pop music. According to Billboard 'Believe' was the #1 song of that year.
You are the same age as my oldest son. I really like that You are doing that dive into the past.... we had som good stuff back then. :)
ABBA - "Rock Me".
ABBA is a group and the letters of the name are the first letters of their names Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid. I am of the opinion that Dancing Queen by ABBA is one of the best pop songs of all time. Great reaction. x
Dancing Queen is considered by many as their best song
