The line up was: Mark Knopfler - vocals, guitars, he wrote the songs as well, all round genius! John Illsley - bass, vocals; Hal Lindes - guitar; Terry Williams - drums, he was the unexpected star, just brilliant! Alan Clark - keyboards; Another genius Tom Mandel - Back up keyboards; As I said when you reacted to Sultans of swing, I was at this gig, we didn't think they'd play Telegraph, its so epic, but as you can see, they smashed it In many ways its Alan Clark's song, his keyboard playing just moulds it together It was an amazing gig, I was very privileged to be there. We are so lucky its a top quality, in the day, recording They played like that for two hours and more...
Hey Guys! Thank you for introducing me to Dire Straits. This is a reuploaded video due to copyright issues. Hope you enjoy!! 🥰 Please comment what should i check out next.
Well, this is the way it was done in the 70s and 80s! Thanks for your positive reaction, makes my old eyes happy to see! Apart from Mark Knopfler, I don't know if you've heard the other greatest guitarist of all times, Stevie Ray Vaughan? His Texas Flood from the El Mocambo club in Toronto in 1983, the same year as the Alchemy concert by Dire Straits. ua-cam.com/video/KC5H9P4F5Uk/v-deo.html
I think you are discovering that with a band like this, there is so much going on it's impossible to take it all in first go, but it pays back by repeated plays and finding new discoveries when you listen again. Having had piano lessons, I was delighted to see the keyboard player come to the fore: soft delicate runs, then an aggressive section and afterwards a manic glissando, which I noticed made you jump out of your seat! A stand out moment.
From what people have said elsewhere, I understand that the drummer was fairly new to the band, and his father was in the audience that night for the first time.
I have heard that this was done as a encore and if you look at the drummer, he looks tired as he should. This was amazing. They are superb musicians. Telegraph Road runs into Detroit, Michigan.
Hey great reaction. I think youll really like the song Calling Elvis - Live Dire Straits "On The Night" 1993. Theres so many surprises. Its really awesome. Cheers all the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸
Maybe it's because of when I heard them back in the 80s, but I can't help but feel an emotional connection between this song and Springsteen's "Born in the USA" album. However British Dire Straights is, this track always had an American feel to me.
Anyone else remembers those good old days? The first music I bought, pronounced it Dire Streets and because Knopfler sound German thought it was a German band 🤣🤣 TIP: the original clip from Dire Straits - Money for Nothing. One of the first music videos with CGI, it blew my mind and I immediately bought the cassette (because the CD was to expensive)..... PS When it comes to listening to music I prefer my smartphone. No more walkman and radio recorded tapes, CD players as vulnerable as porcelain, or expensive Minidisks and Ipod's with all kinds of obligated software that takes hours to sync.
A masterpiece and one of the best performances ever. Alchemy was an awesome concert. Make sure you also see Wembley live, “Tunnel of Love” so great, the ending will carry you away, also “Walk of Live”, faster than the studio version, and many more. DS were always better live than in the studio for me, everyone a super talent and Mark a perfectionist. Terry on drums was for me the best they had. good response, glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Pure genius without technology help

Calling Elvis is totally low tier Dire Straits. Plain, boring, and a wankery fest.
@iorch82 ......in your opinion......
