THANK YOU! The "forward" thing helped me so much! I've been belly flopping through chaturangas for like 6 months straight wondering what was wrong with me. lol
This just completely changed my yoga practice! I’ve been practicing yoga for over 10 years & never understood why I couldn’t do this and the front of my shoulders would be so sore for days after doing yoga. I watched this twice, then tried it and did my first correct chatauranga ever! Thank you Kathryn!!!
I was always frustrated about the pose because I know I have quite strong arms and back yet I always collapsed. This is so helpful and doing it right makes it so much easier! Thank you!!!
Im glad I saw this video. I kept feeling proud for two years for becoming strong enough to do chaturanga easily. My happy bubble is burst now as I realised I had been doing it in the wrong form all along. My back used to curve and my shoulders always slumped. And now when I tried it in the right form thanks to this video, OMFG it hurt! Will have to build up the strength from scratch. No worries, I'll reach there soon.
This helped me tremendously. The Chaturanga pose felt impossible to do because I was doing it wrong the whole time. This is the best explanation that I've seen. Thank you!
I'm glad I found your video first, I'm a beginner in yoga and do my yoga at home so I don't get hands-on instructions. thank you so much for a clear explanation on how to do this! Much love 💗
The video has helped me so much. I feel like I am now seeing a glimmer of light at the end of tunnel. Wonderful explanation. My strength needs to increase more but at least I have the right way of doing this now. Thank you !!!
hi Kathryn. I am facing all the problems u hv mentioned. ur video is of gr8 info and correction tips. would definitely try and pay attention to all these tips when I will practice. thx.
OMG! Thank you so much for this clear explanation! It helped me a lot. All the time I did it wrong. You're my chaturanga-hero! The Jacky Chan helped me also in downdog. Greetings from Belgium.
Oh my gosh. So helpful. I never was told how to do it properly and I was able to do this on the first go without my weight pulling me to the ground. YAY!!!! Thanks so much.
Omg! Yes! Best explanation I’ve seen on Chaturanga’s. I was having a hard time incorporating Eka Pada’s because, I just didn’t understand how to bend my elbows and how to hold the pose correctly at a lower plank! Ugggh! Excited for my Eka Pada’s transitions. Thank you ❤️
Where I was confused was where the toes are positioned. I was taught in not-yoga plank to have my toes poisoned behind the ankles, to get the extension that she is referring to. But I see here that in yoga plank, the toes are in front of the ankles, AND THEN you extend from the ankle, as you come down to chataranga. I could not get my hands to be by my ribcage, because I was starting with my feet kind of pointed, so i could not bring my body forward any more. Though she did not verbally talk on this, seeing her form was very helpful in identifying where my problem was.
THIS IS SO SUPER HELPFUL! I can't thank you enough, but this really made me realise why I have been collapsing into my chaturanga! thank you so so much
Any yoga teachers out there ... TEACH THIS!! I've been doing it wrong for so long - collapsing down ... why oh why isn't this taught more rather than just whipping through sequences that people are doing badly? Now I'm practicing this every day .. 5 attempts only and then moving on. I'm videoing myself so I can see any progress/bad posture - it's making it quite the fun challenge during lockdown #3!
I feel like you have to be at a certain level of strength to be able to do a lot of yoga moves / positions - am i correct? and that level is pretty / very high. 😭
Not totally true. Almost every pose has an alteration that makes it "easier". In the case of Chaturanga, simply putting your knees down relieves a lot of the force, and allows most people to learn the pose. Any good instructor should provide beginners with the help and alterations needed to learn and enjoy yoga. All the best!
What would you recommend for a guy that's done physical labor for about 12 years while going through post secondary education starting at age 15 during high school and is now only in his 30s but is starting to feel minor back pain, tightness and general strain as a way to get into yoga without going into a class? Honestly, I don't want to go into a class as I'd be pretty embarrassed to go in both knowing nothing and looking like the pervy guy that has never done yoga in his life and is there to pick up women. We all know or have seen one of those guys in a yoga class :P
Find a massage therapist or PT to help you with assisted stretching, and go get a deep tissue massage to loosen any tight, inhibited muscles, and stimulate proper neuro-activation of those muscles. If you can find someone that does Clinical Orthopedic Massage, Neuromuscluar Technique, and/or Myofascial Release, you will likely have a winner. Good luck!
Grrr I’m getting frustrated!! I was doing it completely wrong. I go forward now but I can’t seem to hold my Jackie Chan or corset very well :// I really hope I catch on soon. I feel like I’m close to getting it
THANK YOU! The "forward" thing helped me so much! I've been belly flopping through chaturangas for like 6 months straight wondering what was wrong with me. lol
Me too! Since march!!!!
It's crazy nobody teach it properly !!!!
This is so important! Why don't other teachers mention these details? Thank you!
