  • The Asgard are widely considered to be one of the most advanced and benevolent races in the Stargate mythos. In this video I discuss the Asgard whose civilization would go on to greatly impact the modern human race creating a legacy that would leave an indelible mark on the inhabitants of the Milky Way galaxy.

      Their timeline never made sense either. As per Heimdall, the asgard were still using cryogenics and no/sub-par FTL 30,000 years ago. This was long after the Lanteans had left earth for Pegasus and cut ties with the Milky Way. Yet, they were somehow aware of the Wraith war in Pegasus?

      But again (spoiler for the books....) The war with wraith was 10000 years ago... thats when Aesir and VANIR became separated.
      by then both sides had intergalactic hyperdrives. (A mothballed Vanir scoutship could make Pegasus-earth ship in 3 days, comparable to ZPM equiped X304) Vanir mostly lost the technology because they decided to hide on "unitersting" planet and didnt have neutronium to rebuild the tech.
      Vanir could likely reconstruct technology to standards of 10000 years ago (still good but definitely not matching mainstay Asgard in weapons tech or shields) of their Ida Aesir counterparts.
      When Daniel helped them to contact Raan (ancient ascended Asgard from times before the genetic program) she descended with them planing to use her eggs as a template for continuing their species. (And they became somewhat less assholes promising not to contest humanity ever again)

    Stargate was an absolute beloved series of mine. I own most of the original series on DVD still. And Atlantis in many ways for me got even better than the original. The premature cancelation of Atlantis was a Greek tragedy IMO.

      Seeing how they've had intergalactic travel for probably 10s of thousands of years, I wouldn't be surprised if there was another offshoot species out there somewhere. Type 2 on the kardeshev scale for sure approaching type 3 possibly, we're still only type 1 even with the advancements they gave us. We only have the tools to use their technology but not to recreate it from our knowledge base alone. They merely gave us the means to reproduce their tech so we're something of a holdover species. We wouldn't be able to reproduce even their most basic technology if that wasn't the case.

    • @yoboyrob201
      @yoboyrob201 2 роки тому

      @@DeathBYDesign666 technically we have the sum total is their knowledge. Which means we have basically all of their blueprints, so to speak. Also, all the knowledge they gathered to get to said specific developments. Which allows earth to not only reproduce Asgard technology, but in time, make advancements on it. The problem is the sgc and affiliated parts are still classified, thus hindering development. Eventually that won’t be the case and true development can occur.

    • @DeathBYDesign666
      @DeathBYDesign666 2 роки тому +1

      @@yoboyrob201 Technically they could rebuild Atlantis with the tech they gave humanity, remember Samantha said she could reproduce Merlin's phase shifting device from just her memory and that's practically ascending ancient technology. There's no reason why they can't make zpms with the same technology as well unless harvesting sufficient energy resources are the key factor here. This might be the only obstacle they have in reproducing some of the technology, it could take lots of subtly of experience to do so safely. It could take bigger brains to account for the variables that happen on the fly, then again they might have put in fail safes to assure that we don't develop too fast. Or it could just take time to acquire the resources to synthesize the base elements needed to replicate some technology. In any case it will speed up development by hundreds of times, so even being just type 1 now means we could achieve type 2 in just a few decades or so. Even though they have access to later type civilizations technology total use of it will take possibly hundreds of thousands of years. They have the sum total of both the ancients and the Asgardians knowledge but it would take a very long time to get through even a fraction of it. Remember also that the Asgard said they had been studying the ancient database for thousands of years and have still barely scratched the surface. Some of it is probably so far beyond us that we don't even know the keyword to search for to use most of it. There is still a learning curve to be overcome in this case I suppose.

    While watching the Stargate SG-1 series, I always wanted to learn more about the history of the Asgard. Were they always so benevolent? Anyway, thank you for the awesome content! Excellent as always!

    • @Paerigos
      @Paerigos 2 роки тому +1

      Well they changed themselves to point of being incapable of it - but - how do you change yourself back when you had to already redo you brain to house millenia worth of memories? With (in this regard) inferior brain you may be able to ascend, but it wont really be YOU when you loose millenia of memory that made you as individual.
      Also Asgard generaly werent that fond of Ancient rules of not interfering. Most of them couldnt just sit idly by and watching stuff while Ancients forcing them to.

    • @DeathBYDesign666
      @DeathBYDesign666 2 роки тому

      It's entirely possible that they do have an offshoot species that did just that, there is non canon material that says that there have been Asgard that have ascended before. Don't ask what it was, I just heard that through some other comment a while back. They probably do have the ability just not the desire to do so as it would mean loosing much of their former selves.

    It has occurred to me that the asgard hid a directive inside their database that should the humans of earth ever find a solution to their proboem that it would create a fresh clone with their transportation technology that would use the new findings to revitalize their entire race. Presumably they just ran out of time to achieve this themselves and with a lost tribe of asgard still alive their extinct status is kinda hard to say for sure. They have a way back because humanity does carry the sum of their entire races memories and experiences.

My only real complaint about the Stargate series is that they went from being ignorant of how to use the gate....to multi-galactic super power...all in just 10 years. The technology they encountered should have been the equivalent to magic to them and taken a lot more than just 10 years to grasp some of the basics. That and I really wanted to see the human population's reaction to the gate becoming public knowledge.

    My favorite race the Asgard out of all the highly evolved. Intelligent sophisticated races were the most helpful. I mean don't get me wrong there were some alien races that were helpful to. Sg1 and the defense of Earth but if I really think about it there were no real.
    Significant help from any of the five Great races the ancients had become energy beings. Becoming extremely arrogant and not caring about life at all. Except their own existence as energy and tranquility they became so high and mighty. They forgot what it meant to be human and to be alive.
    The furlings are unknown
    The goa'uld turned into the enemy
    The Nox became too pacifistic and essentially turn their backs on the other races. Refusing and unwilling to help even if it meant their own destruction.
    And then there were the other alien races that were not part of the five. The tollan by far could have been the most helpful Ally. But they became too arrogant in their ways of advancement and technology and.
    Treated their allies as less beings even though humanity let it pass. They were all too quick to remind their friends and allies that they were inferior. It did not deserve their technology after one bad experience and after numerous times of trust that was built with Earth. But in the end due to their arrogance they were destroyed for it.
    The tokra did help Earth but they were few and no number. In very rarely could get goa'uld technology.
    Then there was the Asgard who treated humanity with the respect. Admiration and help that they desperately needed. The Asgard were very wise and very fair especially under the supreme Commander Thor. This help was built on trust and mutual respect and with both sides helping each other.
    The Asgard had such respect and humility for humanity that they trusted them with. the mental responsibility of their entire history and race. To use that knowledge for good and to protect those who can't protect themselves.

      Asgard in the end considered Humanity their last chance of their legacy not being perverted like the ancient one by the Goauld...
      also in essence Hermiod was the one who gave humanity pass on it in one of the books. He was there in essence to decide if Earth is worthy to preserve their legacy. in the end noting that we are much more like them then anyone else. That Earth will use the technology for both peace and war... like they did when necessary.
      In kind of thing - Goauld are the humans at our most selfish... Asgard are humanity at our best, and Ancients are the ideal which we thing anyone should aspire to, but its an ideal which in fact is about as bad as the goauld because of righteous assholesness and false superiority.
      Asgards at least tried to own all their mistakes and warn others not to do them.

    I'm still not sure the Asgard are entirely gone because the Ancients/Alterans could have assisted in their ascension. Albeit they are a race of clones they were still biological beings who may have purposely forgone the means to ascend spontaneously but other unevolved humanoids have historically been helped ascend if a majority of "Others" agreed to help, thinking them worthy. Daniel Jackson was in no way advanced enough to ascend but did so twice, seconds before the destruction of the Replicator's ship on the second occasion. We saw the Asgard's final act of self sacrifice but not their physical destruction?

    One of the best episodes still remain S2E6, first proper encounter with Asgards... But the concept behind the fact Simeria was invaded is so bullshit: "because Thor's hammer is destroyed, Goa'uld invaded Simeria".
    I mean... They could destroy this device from space without any problem by bombarding it, then invade, since ages.
    And apparently, the only reason why SG1 was able to save Simeria was because they "contacted" Thor. So he was not aware at all that Simeria was invaded, before that. It means this idea of protected planets is fallacious, if there is not a constant monitoring.
    If Goa'uld invade just because the security system is down and not because they respect the pact of protected planets, it's non-sense. Like... Later, it was established trough the summum with Goa'ulds lords / Asgards / Tori that earth will be protected. So... Why Simeria was invaded in first place? Horus is also a lord...
    Just sayin', i LOVE stargate, but they take some shortcuts to justify their plot sometimes...

    I think it would be better if the series writer considered the ancient Egyptian gods as the good alien race , they were more righteous and wise than norse gods, norse gods were warriors and savages who respect the sword and fighting

    Well, I liked the asgard, but their mass suicide was completely pointless. They had the technology required to transfer their consciousness into computers, so they could have continued their existence as a machine civilisations, free from the confine of biology. Such a machine civilisation existence wouldn't be necessarily permanent, because if they finds a solution to their genetical flaws, they could transfer their consciousness into the newly printed bodies.

      The problem is that they had new blood thoughts! New ideas! They couldn't get past there problems with cloning because no one knew anything else had any creative ideas! ,

    So with the database given to SG1, we can bring back the Asgard.

    I've always found it amusing that a Gods that demanded human sacrifice (Norse) was considered benevolent while a God (Zeus) that couldn't keep his what's it in his pants was considered evil. It's almost like an intersectional feminist wrote this part of the lore.

    If we ever get a Stargate revival...hopefully after the "woke craze" has finally burned out (if ever) so it won't ruin it...I hope we see the Asgard again, or an homage to them at least.

      I wonder if Carter would have been considered woke nonsense if it had been released today

      @@lilyeves892 "only because my reproductive genitals are in the inside, instead of the outside ..." would be something taken seriously nowaday. Very early stargate tried that woke nonsense and it was cringe af. They quickly ditched it thank god. They even had an episode with alternate carter thinking that line and saying its so stupid as a nod to the stupidity of early stargate Carter. The mongol episode was also another cringeworthy one.
