I'm in my mid-70s now. When I was 14 a doctor told my mother to not allow me to drink sodas because I had weak kidneys. I took that seriously and stopped drinking any sodas. 4 years later my granddad who was a heavy Coca Cola drinker died of kidney failure. That reinforced my decision. My kidneys are in excellent condition. I've avoided heavily processed food most of my life, cooked from scrtch and gardened a lot as healthier choices. I prefer water to drink.

My kidney numbers were off, and I worried because my mom died from kidney failure. She drank alcohol, and refused to take blood pressure meds. I don't drink alcohol, and refuse any drugs not necessary. I consulted a pharmacist, and learned that I was holding my urine too long, and not drinking enough water. When I changed my ways. my numbers edged to better ones. Such a great feeling, and this video is MUCH appreciated.

Love everything on this list except radishes. We eat lots of onions, and I love cabbage, and all the cruciferous veggies. Garlic is awesome, and ginger is such a good remedy for caiming an upset tummy. Lots of protein in chicken, and love kale omeletes with swiss cheese, and spices, cooked til the edges crisp, then sprinkle with brewer's yeast, or parmesan. Eating healthy shows in hair and fingernails first. My Nurse Practitioner told me that is how she could tell that I ate a healthy diet. And, we should stay off the PATHETIC scale when trying to lose weight. Our clothing let's us know if we go up or down, and if it is true weight or fluid buildup. Scales are dreadful things that lie if you put them on an even slightly uneven surface. LOL

0:18: 🍽 The video discusses the stages of kidney disease and the difference between a standard renal diet and a healing diet.
5:24: 📚 The renal diet does not apply to 80% of people with kidney disease, but for the remaining 20%, it is crucial to limit sodium, potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, and possibly water intake.
9:44: 🍎 The main contributor to kidney disease is type 2 diabetes and hypertension, and managing insulin resistance can help prevent 90% of kidney diseases.
14:24: 🥦 The importance of managing potassium levels in kidney health and the potential benefits of garlic and cherries.
19:13: 🥦 The video discusses various foods and their potassium and phosphorus levels, with a focus on a low-carb or ketogenic diet.
23:37: 🥦 The X list discusses various foods and their suitability for a renal diet, highlighting their nutritional content and potential benefits.
28:38: 🥦 The speaker discusses the impact of certain foods on kidney health and suggests working with a nephrologist for personalized guidance.
33:56: ✅ The speaker discusses the benefits of certain foods for kidney health and suggests specific dosages for different stages of kidney disease.
39:09: 🍉 The renal diet focuses on controlling damage rather than limiting minerals, but it is mainly applicable to chronic kidney disease. The goal should be to address the underlying cause, such as insulin resistance, which leads to kidney failure, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome.

Hello, Dr. Ekberg. I am so happy you talked about this because I am a CKD 3A patient and am confused about my diet. In my February bloodwork I moved up to Stage 2 (eGFR 68.5/Crea 0.69) which was awesome, but last May my eGFR went down again to Stage 3A (eGFR 56.7/Crea 0.82). I was devastated. I figured it was my diet. I had mostly vegetables 6 months ago but then I ate meat again and did some fasting. I think protein and intermittent fasting are bad for me. However, my doctor told me that I don't have to worry about my food intake but recommended that I have a balanced meal. He didn't recommend fasting at all. No renal diet for me, he reckoned. Watching this video made me more relaxed. Thank you very much, Doc. You explained better than any doctor I met. God bless you.

S/times I mix spinach with kale. I have blueberries with bananas. I eat nuts with dried fruit spricots or raisins.. Approx. six out of 10 times my meals contain onion, garlic and ginger. I add ginger or peppermimt to regular tea. Hope this helps someone. Senior.🙏☘️🥳

Hi Dr. Ekberg. Thanks so much for this video. My eGFR varies between 40 and 60 and has done for over 10 years. I tell my doctor that is because I take creatine monohydrate as a supplement for weightlifting. Lifting weights and creatine both raise creatinine but my doctor doesn’t want to hear it. My eldest son (48) was told he also had CKD. He visited a kidney specialist (nephrologist) and after many tests the specialist informed him that the eGFR test wasn’t suitable for everyone and that he didn’t have CKD. Now to my question. I take methylene blue (40mg) per day. Do you think this could help or harm my kidneys? Thankyou.

Could you please discuss our food that is sooo high in oxalates that deplete and steal the nutrients in our body? Like not eating Spinach. This affects our kidneys so bad that leads to painful kidney and bladder stones. How do we balance this intake to get rid of pains and kidney failure? I checked with the kidney specialist because i’m getting sick. Taking spinach smoothies for 3 months and ending in ER with kidney failure. Caused by toxic high oxalates in diet. Thank you. No more high oxalates like spinach, no chard, no nuts etc!

My kidneys still have 50% function. I may receive hemodialysis before I am 30 years old. I even want to end my life early because I don’t want to be tortured by the disease. I love Dr. Ekberg's videos, I've listened to almost all of them all the way through at work and at home. Starting to reccomend this channel to my friends and family, since over the last 3 months or so I've lost a significant amount of weight, put on muscle (from all the eggs I eat now), and my original goal to begin with was honestly just fixing my health problems after years of excessive alchohol consumption. People have seen the changes on me, and I hope that's enough to get them hooked, as well.
I just wish there was a channel like this, but for our beloved pets... I have a cat that I want to feed right, too, but she wont eat eggs. 😅
(For context: I am 27, female, 3+ months off the booze and on the Heath Champion lifestyle. I've lost around 30 lbs. My health is overall a lot better, but my liver is still kind of sensitive due to the slow process of healing, and the tap water at my new apartment is horrifically full of chemicals. Just bought a water filter, as a start to fixing that problem.)

What does that liver sensitivity feel like?

    • @RaveRaven227
      @RaveRaven227 Рік тому +4

@dirtclodboi For me, it just feels like some inflammation. It's not painful, but enough to notice that something isn't right. It used to be worse after a night of binge drinking. Now, it's just mild occasionally if I've had too much coffee or something. It would also flare up before I finally cut out energy drinks, too. Most people who also struggle with alchohol are also familiar with the feeling. It's a pretty subtle but clear sign that it's time to make a change.
Additionally, if it's painful, then you might definitely need to see a doctor.

I was on dialysis for 8 months because my kidneys went into shock after an allogenic bone marrow transplant to cure AML leukemia and I got GVHD. My perfectly healthy kidneys totally quit working one day and went back to working one night eight months later. There's only 2 positive things about total kidney failure, you never wake up to urinate because you don't anymore and after finishing a session at the dialysis clinic a greasy cheeseburger and soft drink never tasted better. I think that was because for the first time in 40 years I had clean blood. You don't want kidney failure. I know from experience. I'll never complain again about waking up to urinate again. I say a prayer for all kidney patients. It's not an easy lifestyle.
